oh well - time is slipping away (=]-) but I'll still see what happens and stick with this till the end. Maybe I can get an all-night crunch in LOL!

My theme for this competition depicts a vision of near future history that shows how global agri-commerce multi-national companies may enslave the human food chain even more than they are doing now.

Specifically my image depicts a scene set in an imaginary third world country. It shows desperate local people being forced to pick genetically-modified fruit on very low wages. The fruit is destined for rich customers in the West rather than local people.
One enslaved woman [in the foreground] decides to try and steal some of the fruit for her own family. She is on the cusp of discovering if the armed comapny 'management' force that patrols the fields (the 'Master'), has seen what she is doing or not.

I want to make the truck type vehicle remind the viewer of a locust as a symbol of how these sorts of companys tear through local environs without any concern for the original habitat.

It's hard to make out in this concept sketch but I want the company staff (the guy walking next to the truck and the driver of the truck), to be quite futuristic in appearance.
This will contrast with the oriental sun hats and simple garb the poor fruit pickers will be wearing.

I hope my intended theme for this concept doesn't seem too 'dry' and 'political'. I think it will be a challenge for me to introduce the right amount of tension in the image.

Just a quick proxy version of the truck, to show I'm still working away on this =]-

Now that the proxy of the truck is done I can now start on the detail of the truck. I like starting with wheels when I do a vehicle as they are usually repeated, making the oject seem 'more busy' more quickly.

I know it's getting late on in the competition but I'm still on the vehicle. I started on the chassis and main bucket of the truck but they're sort of in modeling 'limbo' if you know what I mean.

Woah,... thats what I call tread!
Nice tight modelling.

Just some more modeling of the truck. Work and a new six week old baby boy are taking their toll on the time I can spend on this but I *will* get there :)

nice clean modeling mate.. not sure why but the wheels as a matter of size is bothering me... usually a truck or any vehicle with that size in proportion has much larger tyres.. what you think about scaling them up dont you think it will look much better? but i must say i love the overall design of the wheel suspension and axels.. looking real good mate!

Cheers for the comments Kanga and Neeno.

As for the wheel size, ordinarily I'd make them a bigger part of the design but in this case I don't want to diminish the effect of the vehicle (hopefully) resembling a locust as the symbolism is part of my master and servant theme.

After the challenge I'll probaly recycle some of the pieces (like the wheels) to make a different vehicle concept.

Just been working on the back leg and 'under-slung' chemical tank.
Once I have the tank in place I can then move backwards and finish the chassis of the truck.

Hope you all like it so far =]-

Hey Anthony,
I like your concept, the truck sort of looking like a locust is a neat idea. Hope you can finish as this has lots of potential. Looks like a John Deere locust truck.

Cheers Mike,

Who's John Deere anyway :)

Like your chapel for your entry

Slowly getting to the end of the truck. I'm not sure how far I'll get by the 18th but I think I'll have to comprimise my original concept somewhat just to get an entry in.
