hi best of luck!

I havent drawn the sketches yet but i feel its important to at least state what i plan to do as my first concept, because if i dont and somebody else beats me to it, i dont want to look like the bad guy, eg. the guy who has no original thought and must copy the work of others.

So! this is my plan....

The scene is a Master who has fallen from an attack from an unseen 'attacker' (hehe) who lies somewhat defeated in the background, then standing in the middle is his servant who is trying to protect him, A faithful Dog! But a kick arse techno organic dog! And he is grimacing and in attack mode ready to take on the Guy who hurt his master!

The theme of this piece would be loyalty. But at the same time i want to show the master as compassionate as possible. So maybe the MAster is reaching out to his servant as if to stop her from defending him, for whatever reason that may be.

Just playing around with my interpretation of master and servant. Sketches are rough, half assed and real crap but for the sake of the competition, here they are, in all there crapiness!!

This scene is depicting 2 masters, 1 good and 1 bad, both being supported by there servants. What i like about this concept is that the way the Masters use there servants, determines whether ur a good Master or a bad Master. Checking out the scene this should be evident as to who is what...and if it doesnt then 'u betta ax sumbaday!

Note the slender appearance of one master, who is being attended to by his servant as an 'equal', then look over to Mr high and mighty and check out his 'irregular' shaped physique, and the trouble his servants have to manage in order to keep him 'high and mighty', and as can be seen, his feeding habits arent helping the situation one bit. A common trait with those particular types of masters.

Here summo for people to look at, who are probly 2 busy looking at the quality...but just u wait! This will be killer in no time! Well....once i get my tablet it will....Woohoo! Intuos 3 man, how can u not like that...i dont have it yet but its on its'll beat the crap out of coloring in photoshop using the lasso what the?

This scene is just playing with the camera angle...obviously its not fleshed out bcuz i didnt feel like it was working...but u get the idea of where i was going with it. The problem i had with this composition was not being able to place the servant of the other master, so this one got scrapped. But note the Cool Title belt of the MAster! Thats a keeper, and so are the branded forearms. They are all marked 'S' for u know wut.

04 April 2005, 06:46 PM (

I had issues with the fact that one Master was above the other, so i went about finding a way to keep the masters at eye level with each other. AFter much thought i came up with the solution of the Master without the sedan Chair, to be mounted on a creature of some sort, enabling him to be lifted up the same height as the fat dude. This creature, i chose to be a Lion. Why? because what Lion lets a human on there back? Obviously there is some sort of agreement there between the Lion and its compadre, and i felt this relationship would communicate the idea of 'Masters treating there servants as equals' best. That and Lions are cool.

As you can see i was alot happier with this sketch then i was with the others...note the actual detail and \\\'finished\\\' look of the sketch, unlike the others before it.

Ok a little explanation about whats going on....well as you can see, the 2 main characters, the good and bad master, are really going at it, with there servants standing to support them in whatever way they should.

I like this composition for many reasons but one i would like to point out is the flow and movement of the piece. Another thing i like is the symbolism, which is potrayed by the bad master being supported in a negative way, on the shoulders and backs of his \\\'slaves\\\', and the good master who is supported in a positive way as they ascend \\\'together\\\' towards a \\\'shared\\\' goal.

However, i have worked on other ways to compose my approach on the theme. Which i will post shortly.

04 April 2005, 02:35 PM (

This one isnt as filled out because i only wanted to test how it would look if the good master was higher up, instead of lower as he is in the previous one.

I also wanted the slaves to really react to the situation..perhaps as a means to escape there evil master, or at least to prove where there alliance lies.

In any case i didnt really like it, mainly for the fact that the good master is now almost totally out of view and the focus is laid more on the lion...who seems to have more of a vendetta with the bad master then his own master does..

Well actually he kinda does...the next upload will explain why

04 April 2005, 02:59 PM (

This evil Daddy claims his status by manipulating those who have none. He has never worked a day in his life, and anything he wants he takes...usually without permission.

This fellow is quite arrogant and has no respect for anyone other then himself, and he fancies himself as a superior being who deserves only the finest things in life.

To help bring out his personality i have dressed him accordingly. As you can see he is covered head to toe in animal skin, a fetish of his. His headdress is a lions upper skull with the mane still attached, which then flows down his neck and onto his shoulders, helping him to look bigger then what he actually is. Wear the mare ends a cape of tiger and other animal skins continue. Covering the front of him is the skin of a lions legs, appearing as a vest for the wearer. This then frames his title belt, which he obviously stole, but probably wont even be seen in the final piece. Still its a nice accessory to further enhance the 'arrogance' of the man.

His pants are animal skin and his boots are alligator or snake, with bird feather trimming.

His sceptre of power is made from the backbones of man and animal, tipped with sharpened rib bones. This sceptre might then be coated in gold or something..not sure yet.

So anyways, what does this all add up to? The lions purpose for wanting to kick his arse! And what about the master of the lion? well he is striking out at the bad master because he is freeing the slaves, his old compadres.

Coming next...the Good master concepts

4 Takes on the good master.

Take 1 - His dress is inspired by wrestler wear. I totall dug it because i thought it was fresh but kinda primitive at the same time.

Take 2 - Kings armour all the way, notice the lion coat of arms on his chest. I also carried over the 'title belt' to this guy, which was inspired obviously from the last take.

Take 3 - Totally primitive / natural man. He is a cross between Take 1's wrestler look and a modern day rasta 'juicemonkey' (juicemonkey means 'guy on steroids if u didnt know') Im really digging this design because it seems more original, and i like the idea of his dreads acting as his cape, which is an important element i want to keep in the final composition. I also like the title belt on him, it just looks primo.

Take 4 - Slightly modified version of take 3. The string wrist and ankle bands are now replaced with iron, and he know bears scars, all of which are symbols from his slave days to the 'Prince of the plains'. And yes he still bears the 'S'.

Coming up...more compositions...

Welcome to the challenge.

Those are some neat sketches dude. I like #2. GOODLUCK, i'll check back later.

This concept is playing around with the servants aiding the good master..sort of like a revolt that will eventually spell the bad masters doom.

What i do like about this concept is how the bad master still holds onto his place of power even though its obviously coming down, i also like the fatness of the elephant tusks that make up the sedan chair.

As for what i dont like about this piece? everything lets move on...

Take 4 coming..

04 April 2005, 03:56 PM (

Much like take 1, this version just developed take 1 to a higher quality but at the same time, plays around with the more natural savior in place, complete with flowing locks, as well as a new, more 'defensive and ready' pose of the prince.

I've added more atmosphere to this piece, the idea of which was inspired by my good friend, my Angel, who kept talking about take 1's sense of movement and how things looked like they were fading away 'like you can see that stuff is there but its too blurry to picture it clearly'. After that statement i thought perfect! I will add a mist, because thats exactly what that does, it also solves my enviroment issue, and enhances the piece by allowing me to create the mist in a way that suggests that something is coming out from it. Which in fact there is the vengeance of animals!...or some crap like that.

She also mentioned that in my other sketch there seemed to be lines coming from the background, that appeared as light coming from the lions mouth. What my friend was actually seeing was my construction lines, but still, it gave me an idea to change what was initially a moon, and turn it into a planet whos surface appeared as fire, which spirals out from a centre located in the same position as the lions mouth, giving the impression that the lion is spitting out fire, when in fact its just a planet in the background. I thought "Kim! ur a frikkin legend" so i added that idea too.

Another addition to this piece is the carcasses behind the masters chair. You can only see a lion here, but after sketching him in i realised the mistake i made...the lion would be too big to fit onto the chair. So i added a cub on top which u cant really see...but hopefully i will be adding that to the back of the chair when i do the line art.

Having said that, i wouldnt mind doing more concepts because i have other ideas i would like to explore, but time is an issue for me right now so i might settle for this. But still its not a bad thing, because i do like this piece alot.

Anyhow thats it for now...hopefully if i get my tablet by the weekend can post some more stuff earlier then next week.

Heres an update on my progress....

There is no progress...Why? Because i have been waiting on my tablet to arrive for the last 4 weeks so i can get my paint on. However i have had nothing but dramas tryna get one pronto.

To cut a real long and frustrating story short, a 9x12 intuos 3 tablet i ordered 4 weeks ago did not arrive on ETA's which the provider had given me. So i had to cancel that order and source an alternative. I spent the better part of this arvo doing that and fortunately Computer Cash & Carry in Perth had answered the call. Meaning i should have my tablet by next Wednesday.

I know, it doesnt give me alot of time to work on the piece but with a little faith, less sleep and no mistakes (yeh right!) i should have it done on by the day. Well thats the plan anyway.

As frustrated as i am that all that time waiting for a tablet has amounted to nothing, i just have to make the most of the time i have left.

Anyhow i gota make my bread and butter and push some pixels.

All the best mofos.

05 May 2005, 07:39 AM (

After 4 weeks my intuos 3 has finally arrived. Now i gota learn how to use the damn thing.....

This right here is a product of me experimenting with the intuos.

I have no idea how to paint in photoshop (like u can't tell) so it looks like im up for a bit of a lurk around the web to fix this problem of mine.

If anyone can assist, especially in terms of what brush settings to use and whether to work in several layers or just one, would be oh so appreciated.

05 May 2005, 07:46 AM (

After checking out a few choice pieces at various places on this site, i decided to take a stab at toning down the color values. I prefer the colors in this one over the vibrant version i did earlier.

I'll probably go and work on the line art tho before i continue on doing more color comps. Only because after checking out the process some of you guys use to paint digitally, it seems preferable to work from tight lines, rather then loose ones.

Back to the drawing board i go.

05 May 2005, 06:04 PM (

Had a look at a few more pieces and i noticed the color saturation of most pieces i liked are quite dull. So i decided to give it a shot on my piece and theres a definite improvement. Still, i got a looooooong way to go in such a short frame of time.

05 May 2005, 06:12 PM (

Wasnt feeling the whole 'engulfed in flames bit'so i reversed the colors and voila. Primo better, well at least i think so.

This will be my last color comp until i finish my final line art which i plan to do 2moro nite.

As your angel, I always have faith in you Choco!, no matter what... You are the MAN! and I really hope I have helped you in any ways in terms of getting more ideas... :) I am always up for getting ideas and talk about arts as you know.

I know you have been stressing about the 'TABLET' and now you have just little bit of time but still I know you can make it with your MAGIC hand~ I just LOVE YOUR WORKS! As I said to you before, your works somehow moves in my eyes, even they were just sketches. Amazing....

I wish you the best of the best, my Choco!

Final Line art constructed in red pencil then finalised with 2h led on transparent paper, hence the dodgy scan.

Would be nice to get some crits but changing it right now is more or less a negative because the deadline is 4 days away, and as u can tell, i gota loooong way to go yet.

Later Haters
