Latest Update: Modeling: vault door (

heres early start from my vault door.. i turned to make round door, everything ellse is pretty much going to be straight and clean lines... so i think that my scene needs something round too....

03 March 2005, 10:07 PM
So you decided to tune in?! Thats just GREAT Juha.

We are going to be expecting some amazing work you know!

Good luck! (Not that you would be needing it)

03 March 2005, 04:34 AM
heh yeah, need to collect my ideas and start to put them together...
all loose luck is really wellcome, and i i should start training my character modeling skills really fast..and thanks...

03 March 2005, 05:23 AM (

so finaly i get my sketches scanned...
few sketches from my servant on hes way to the master.

03 March 2005, 05:25 AM (

servant again, and master on the backround.

03 March 2005, 05:37 AM
the money is the master, and the vault represents it on the scene,
servant has dedicated his life, since he was a young boy to earn and serve money.
he was happy , but that time has gone,, now he is really unhappy and very tired. cause the vault wants moremoremore... i want to make my servan to look really tired, while carrying more money to the vault, and to give that vault some really mean look...
well back to draw some more..

03 March 2005, 05:51 AM
The concept images look great, hyvä meininki!

03 March 2005, 05:54 AM
yea nice concept!

and welcome to the contest , have fun !

When you put the vault to the end of the scene. I personally believe it sort of takes from the feel you are going for.
Sort of like the 'follow the light'.
I understand that you are intending on playing with the composition all together anyways.. but in this case I think it would be a little bit harder to be able to show the guy tired from the back.

While dancing I remember this ballet that was over-talented.. he would turn his back (Rule one.. you never turn your back to the audience.. thus the reason for the stirct ballet pozes) and you would be literally able to sence him crying in the stage without seeing his face.
This was an exceptionally hard thing to, and had managed to really get him to higher places.
I hope you can understand the point I am getting at...
If there is a story that expressions can only tell. You had better do your best you can manage to assure that it is understood exactly as you had wanted it to be.

I think I am getting the colour theme you are aiming for. And I think it would really go with the rest of it all. Do you have a mind to make the walls really warn out and producing hard contrast edges from the sharp light that the vault is generating?

I believe it's going good Juha.. But I guess the 'everything' is gona be more what revealed with your modeling. :)

Curiouse on what you are up to.

03 March 2005, 07:05 AM
thanks guys from your gentle words... and i havent decided yet,, which perspective im going to use on my scene, but that view behind the back does not gonna work out very well. Thanks Black..
im gonna do few more drawings and trying to solve that thing.

03 March 2005, 10:41 AM
Hi mate,

Your idea is good, but the way as you explained it on your concept drawing a unique exciting art of conceptioning. The depth of the "room", the man who is pressed by the load..i have no words. Keep goin! :buttrock:

03 March 2005, 10:24 PM

can't wait to see more !

04 April 2005, 06:20 AM (

Did you know that juha on croatian means soup, like the chicken soup, the liquid thing that we eat.I like your idea, very original,I think the one that isdiferent from the rest.

04 April 2005, 10:05 PM
hi, well i didnt know,, cool im soup.. and thanks for your kind word guys. i try to start modeling things up as soon as possible...

04 April 2005, 12:52 PM
Great sketch Juha.
Good Luck

04 April 2005, 07:21 AM
So where is the updates? :)

Yeah I know you are busy with the head (Insider information... you guys are not suppose to know about it ;))

Just came by to note an idea that might add to your hallway design:
Since this guy is keeping it as safe as he can manage to keep it. Would it not be possible that he has a handful of secure gates that he has to pass in oreder to get to the final vault?

I know it would really make it harder to put that into your composition. But you are a very exceptional designer, and I believe that the vault itself is the only thing you are left to show off your talents with, at the moment.

Like everyone else, I am impatienty awaiting your updates.

04 April 2005, 01:04 PM (

little update.. sketch from the vault door.

04 April 2005, 01:10 PM
thanks.. nice that you have liked my sketches...
sorry my delayed updates.. that head ..head head... huh
well i think it goes fine now... that security door thing really might work...
i want to add some contrast on the scene anyway.. really simple concrete pillars and maybe this really degorative " blacksmith style" gate between servant and the vault.. that might look good... thanks really much Black.....

and back to working with head.....

04 April 2005, 07:19 PM
Very interesting concept you have going on here, I cant wait to see it realized in 3D...should turn out to be a unique piece to say the least. :)

04 April 2005, 06:08 AM
Hey Juha,
Cool colored drawings:D! Good decision to make it in warm colors.
I like the feeling of mystery behind that door - for me seems to be an evil hiding there...
Last update of a door I like more, but I agree also with the very first composition!
Professionally done!

04 April 2005, 07:10 AM
Great! So you are going to go for a secure entry!

I'd love to see what comes out. I had guessed you would go for something oddly technicalmixed with ergonomy. This was sort of a suprise.. LEts ee what you come up with!

04 April 2005, 05:24 AM (

just quick update.. so im working with the head now " my first head ever , need more this and that and lots of tweaking, but progressing...

04 April 2005, 07:58 AM
Hi Juha,
I'm doing the same as you. First time I've made a real human head from scratch. I'm trying for a young girl. Yours is coming along nicely, it's trickey eh?

04 April 2005, 08:35 AM
well thakyou.. i have done one body before, it wasnt so hard, but this head really gives me some challenge... but it starts to get better..

04 April 2005, 08:59 AM
You know what they say;

Make a good head... the body will follow!

Or wait.. do they say that?!

It's going good Juha.. expecting some more! :)

04 April 2005, 10:05 AM
Hey Juha,
Come on matey, lets see some more of that modelling.

04 April 2005, 06:03 AM (

just little update.. been busy with some other things...... i think my head needs still lots of tweaking and ears...

04 April 2005, 07:05 AM
Hi there, you know, your head doesn't need as much tweaking as you might think. just smooth the lines such as the eyes, which now seem like they are sunk into the socket.

Keep going!

04 April 2005, 05:10 AM
thanks guys for your comments... seems that i have to start that head again... i had a little computer crash and i lost my head files and some other stuff as well , well i need practising anyway...

04 April 2005, 06:22 PM
Am I going to be the only one of the CG-Talk forums with the privilage to have seen your latest head from a few days back?

Come on Juha... people are actually waiting for an update you know :wip:

I KNOW you are VERY busy, but time is actually running out here. I wishso much for you to make it through before the time runs out!

Good luck!

04 April 2005, 08:01 PM
sorry my delayed answer . yeah im really busy with some school stuff right now.. but i managed to model that head a bit today, so im gonna post some updates tomorrow. i allso startted to model the overal scene and the vault itself. so something is going to be here tomorrow.. and really , thank you . you really keep me going....

04 April 2005, 03:36 AM
nothing important

04 April 2005, 03:45 AM
hey juha great progress.. models looking fairly ok.. as you said still need to tweak it a fair bit to get the look your after.. i think you would need to add a lot of definition in the mesh. Just an example would be the nose the way the nose is connected to your fac if you just look in the mirror theres a good groove in there... the lips as well.. but this is still a wip dont be disencouraged.. this is looking great just needs tweaks here and there..good luck juha

04 April 2005, 06:37 PM (

ok heres new head.. need to fix those few bugs on the surface, and tweak that nose a bit ,,and eyes and lips... i allso tried how light affects on the face.#important part of my scene.. well back to work...

04 April 2005, 06:41 PM (

heres early start from my vault door.. i turned to make round door, everything ellse is pretty much going to be straight and clean lines... so i think that my scene needs something round too....

04 April 2005, 05:06 AM
Not too much to play around with to make him look correcter.

There are only small things, like the upper lip laying a bit more ontop of the lower lip even where they connect. Or the temples not really being so sharp an angle.. they are generally mider than 90 degrees.
Most of it are little tweekings.

I agree with your thought about too many staight lines. Actually I had thought you especially liked the sharp lines all through out.
But I sort of liked this vault, and would really preffer to see where you are going to be getting at.

Keep em coming!
