That's a nice style you have there!

Are you going to use similarly sharp style for you evetual work up. It stands out as different I think, very cool.

Concept sketch

Here's a proper submission of the concept sketch.
I'm a noob at uploading this stuff forgive.

03-28-2005, 01:15 AM

I'd consider the robot in the middle the most developed part of the drawing. I'm thinking of having that type of sharp line work for the overall piece. When I color things it might all change .

Something I wanted to mention ealier is that I'm doing everything digitally, no scanning no pencils or paper etc, just a wacom and photoshop.

03-28-2005, 09:42 AM
I have to agree with JmBoekestein that your style truely stands out. It's cool that you are able to achieve such sharp featers with your Wacom without sacrificing from the details.(I am sadly still using a mouse:sad:)

But I sort of fail to grab the story line. Is it sort of like the robots being controled by a remote.. and one of the robots taking control of the remote?

Good Luck;

Nice drawing technique.........look forward to seeing this develop.

Good luck

Awesome sketching Darran .. looking forward to more :)

03-29-2005, 12:16 PM
I love your robots man, they're really cool.

03-30-2005, 01:56 PM
something about your style just feels right...what could it beeee... oh right everything, great concept man!!!

04-01-2005, 09:20 AM (

I reworked panel one again the robot and the girl would be about the level of detail I'll be going for in this panel.

04-01-2005, 09:38 AM
Thanks for the comments on my style. I think using a wacom tablet for everything has some effect on the lines... Some things are easy to do, I can get line variation easily like I'm using a sumi brush, but I can't get line control. Drawing the legs on the girl was harder than doing the robot because I need to get the lines exactly for the girl (she would be easier with a pencil). But I can get a lot of energy in the line work with a wacom which really shows in the drawing. I can't wait for the Cintiq 21UX to ship, I think I'll have to lay down the cash to get one.

I'm not sure how the story line is going to work I'm not looking to tell a clear story but more of a feeling, and it should be a very dark a gruesome feeling if it goes well. I'm going to try and deal with the gore in a tasteful way but I do intend of having it. Lots of pain and suffering in this one.

04-01-2005, 10:26 AM
good concept with a nice graphic style, but,... aieeee, poor men:)

04-04-2005, 07:41 AM (

04-07-2005, 07:46 AM (

Another small update. Most of the time it's hard to come home from work and do more work but I need to do more art... I have to do more art. ;)

04-07-2005, 07:50 AM
I think panel 1 is going to work related. Uh to put it more clearly I think this panel symbolizes the master and servent relationship of working man working for the man, or woman whatever the case may be.

04-11-2005, 12:02 AM (

another update. Alot of the gore is in now. I'm going to make monitors in the back ground that might have 9 to 5 on them in some way.

04-28-2005, 08:54 AM (

There are only two things certin in life, death and taxes....

05-01-2005, 10:04 PM (

The second panel is about done, I hope to make the girl look like shiny plastic like you\\\'d see on apple\\\'s websight for the buttons and stuff.

05-03-2005, 09:06 AM (

Another update.

NOOB!, nebeznial, dloots, Paul, thanks for the kind words.

I only get a little bit of time to work on this one each night, I'm hoping this weekend to get the rest of the line work and some of the coloring done.

good luck.

05-08-2005, 10:04 PM (

One more panel to draw I'm im going to start coloring. I'm not that good at coloring but I'll give it a shot.

This image is getting more and more disturbing, I like it. I guess I like strong images. I'm not making a statment with this art more of a a expression., the music i listen to when I work.....

05-12-2005, 09:33 AM (

I got one of the panels colored.

still working on the others I\'m taking monday off of work to I can get some time to finnish.

05-12-2005, 09:47 AM
Is all coming together with the coloring, nice job. The faces at the back look excellent.

05-12-2005, 09:54 AM
good work. i like the style

05-12-2005, 06:38 PM
this is one of the easier panels to color some of the others are going to be harder. Thanks for you comments dloots, and ghostinthemachine.

Photoshop is a great tool for accidents, the more I use photoshop the more I get out of it. The highlights on the people in the background where pretty much a photoshop trick where I copied the image collapsed it then brightness/contrased, then brought it back and set it as a screen, and bingo it make nice highlights.

05-16-2005, 07:59 PM (

Well here's panel 1. I've got three more panels to go.

05-16-2005, 08:16 PM
so very cool, love the cheesy grin on those robots... (just me?... ) :P

anyway... gud luck and hope you finish intime without rushing!

05-16-2005, 10:35 PM (

I got another one colored, two more panels to go.

05-16-2005, 10:37 PM
daadaa, yes the grin is suppost to have that "happy happy joy joy" feeling from Ren and Stimpy. That mindless follower thing.

05-16-2005, 10:55 PM
the last update there is.... emmmmm sweet...

looks awsome! how do u do the blood so that it looks so realistic? when ever i do it it either looks too sketchy or look like some retard cant control the lipstick..:P

anyway, cant w8 for more updates

05-16-2005, 11:00 PM
phew!! u made me sick man... hehehe meant in a good way! i agree w/ daadaa, your blood's awesome, looks real...

all i can say is hurry up!!:bounce: :bounce:

05-17-2005, 12:52 AM
Yeah it sure is bloody. I used a photograph of a splat seperated onto a transparent background. I think what really brought it out is when I made a new layer set it to overlay and painted some red on top of the red that was already there. Overlay is a great way to adjust the color of a picture.

05-17-2005, 05:19 AM (

This is a strange panel, I think it has more meaning now that its colored. What it means I can't really say, it's mostly a dark and disturbing image. I think this one sums up the best my feeling on this subject. All my panels are about some sort of control state.

05-18-2005, 06:54 AM (

Last panel colored here's a picture of the whole thing. Whew. It always takes more time than I think. I approached this knowing my time was limited and I'd have to make the drawing very loose which is always a fun way to draw. This is another learning experience being that I got to try new stuff. Like painting reflections on the doll, making blood and actually finnishing something. I like drawing the multiple panels because it let's me express more that one idea, and it keeps me from getting board of working on the same thing for to long. The theme is very dark, mostly it's a rant about how I feel about life, which seems to force this state of master and servent in one way or another. Work, desire, food, religion, and hope, there's always a master and servent to this dynamic, and this has been my gloomy way to express it.

hehe, just a final image to subment and I'm done...

05-18-2005, 08:06 AM
so strong expression!!
nice job.
good luck 2u.:)

05-19-2005, 07:22 AM (

Final submission, cool I'm done. It's been fun looking at everybody's work, good luck on the judging with all of youz.

05-19-2005, 09:11 AM
I didn't use the higher rez image, but I'm confused by the 150kb limit, if the image is suppost the be bigger how can it be 150k.

05-19-2005, 09:23 AM (

Okay I got it all figured out. ftp the final image, hmm I should read directions more often.

05-19-2005, 01:14 PM
I still havn't decided weather I like this or not, Its very well done but it makes me cringe...hehe

Great job

05-19-2005, 07:19 PM
Hi Darran, Glad you got it in OK! I must admit I'm in love with the way you've drawn that girl in the top left... hehe! Thankyou for the constructive help in my thread. Greatly appreciated! All the best! :)

05-19-2005, 07:29 PM
np Poshspice I'm glad to help someone. Element5 yeah I think I'm scaring alot of people away with this one, it was just so fun to "let it out". I'm still wondering what it is I've done. It was more inspiring to go with a gut feeling, I think I'll learn more from it than going a safe a secure path.

Good or bad I'm open to hearing any opinions, comments.

05-19-2005, 07:53 PM
congratulation.:bounce:  :buttrock: :applause: :wip:
