hi there , this is my first image posted in this site and i'm very happy to give my little contribution for this challenge
so , i need your help to improve my skills, any suggestions are welcome
before ,i want to say that my english is not that good , so go easy with me.
the story behind this image is that the son of an aristocrat feels bored in spite of his expensive toys and gifts from his parents, one day , he tried to play with a slingshot ,he discovred an immense pleasure and amusement that his high cost toys never gives ,but it seems that the consequences of this object makes very furious some mansion's employee .
so ,i wanted to make something funny with this idea
i'm waiting for some comments .

03 March 2005, 12:28 PM
i'm not sure with the boy's pose , so someone can gives me a suggestion please ?:)

03 March 2005, 02:20 PM
Hi punklover, I really think your concept has big potential. Here are some ideas as you requested.

The Boy - I think instead of having him just standing there, what if he is getting ready to destroy somthing else. he could be aiming his sling shot towards ' Us ' the viewer for example. and if he was in a more dynamic pose, it might help too.
You can also fill the room with more destroyed things. What about also maybe have like a family pet cowering in th corner as he too has been attacked by this little menace.

Just some thoughts.
Goodluck !

hi tariq ! a big thanks for your suggestions , i'll take note of your pet's idea . what about a frighten cat !!:scream:

04 April 2005, 08:10 PM (

this is another concept , so i wanted to avoid the unhealthy relation between masters and servants and turn it into something innocent such a game between children who play pirates with their raft.

04 April 2005, 08:58 PM
looks great! and nice idea!!

THE Wizard

Super! I'm glad I'm not the only one who used kids game into the idea... Grweat stuff - Good Luck:thumbsup:

well, this is the line art ,so, i think there something about tom sawyer in it ,i'd just realize it now. anyway, some comment would be very helpful

Hey cool idea! I really love the innocence in the relationship between master and servant. Very perfect. You have nice line art set up to work with too. Only one thing sticks out that bothers me though. The boy with the pirate patch should perhaps have his shoulder moved more forward because it almost looks like he's breaking. Fun idea with the peg leg and I love the girls dress and how its blowing in the wind.

04 April 2005, 01:52 AM
hi birdybear ,thank you for your suggestion, and your right about the boy 's shoulder ,maybe i should move it a little forward ,and i'm glad that you found tha peg leg a fun idea.

04 April 2005, 01:13 PM

You've got a fun vibe in your drawing, reminds me of all the adventures I had with my cousins...okay but that's not the point!

A really dynamic angle you've got there, you should have fun with the colors and experiment, I'm looking froward to the water, good luck on that, and the faces of the captain and thi little girl are a bit similar, maybe you could modify one of them, but that's just a small issue nuthin really...

Almost only two more weeks to go, now keep that in mind! Have fun, cheers!

oh and thanks for coming by my thread mate!

05 May 2005, 01:11 AM (

well ,this is my first coloring attempt ,the deadline is very close , so i must hurry up if i want to finish at time
adamos >> thank's mate ,and for the girl face, i did some minor changes ,now she don't look like the captain ,and about the water , i made it raging , i think it gives some dynamisme .
any suggestions are welcome .

05 May 2005, 08:01 PM
Hey, kool idea.
It is very nice, trully, it is getting well painted too, cant wait to see more ;)

Good luck!

05 May 2005, 01:09 AM
That's great. I love the tied-on peg leg.

05 May 2005, 02:53 AM (

still working on the colors , i have just realized that the water is someting very hard to create ,still have to do the sky whit the clouds ,and the lack of free time, hope i will complete the challenge before the deadline
djampa & stevethomas >> thank you guys for your support .

05 May 2005, 03:35 PM (

05 May 2005, 04:07 PM
this looks cute, very cartoonish!:)

05 May 2005, 06:06 PM
Hey man! :) Cool concept! Some tips about you'r coloring - First you should paint the background very rough in colors with a large brush, then you will see alot better how the colors on you'r characters work. You could perhaps try to make a sunset setting with a red sky leaning towards vagely blue at the top, with yellow at the horizon. Also.. think out of the box, I'd try to make the water more green and "lagoonish" making it look more mysterious and exotic.

Oh, and your values and saturation of your colors on your characters are very high atm. Try to keep them at a lower saturation level.

Hope this helps! I'll come back to check you'r progress later! :)

05 May 2005, 08:56 PM
calisto >> thanks, and yes i, it's going cartoonish,i think it suit the concept.
am7 >> thanks mate for your tips , and for the background , i think a sunny weather with a blue sky would be more appropriate ,and for the water i'll go with your suggestion ,also ,i will adjust the saturation to make it at lower level
and your welcome to check my thread every time you want :)

05 May 2005, 11:47 PM (

hi everybody ,so only 4 days left , i will spend this weekend working on it
well ,i'm not really happy with the current result ,i think i must work more on the colors , i almost finiched the characters and still have the sky ,well ,i just added some birds , and i'm not sure with the position of the clouds ,so what do you think ?

05 May 2005, 08:18 AM
Nice idea. refreshing. And I like the contradiction with your nicknames :scream:

05 May 2005, 07:38 PM
It's coming along nice, but I think theres to much white! :) I'd make the sail more grey/brownish looking. And I wouldn't use 100% white on the boys clothes either. Keep it up!

05 May 2005, 10:33 PM (

just finiched the clouds , i have a bunch
of things to complete !

05 May 2005, 11:54 PM
Hey man, didn't check this one out. Very cool and cute piece you got here, the wooden stick tight against the captains leg is a very funny detail.
The water is starting to look pretty good.
I think you should paint the birds all going in the same direction as the pirateraft cause seagels often have the tendency to fly next to ships, paint some a little closer to the viewer.
I hope you're able to finish, good luck!

05 May 2005, 08:20 PM (

just finiched the raft ,i'm satisfied about it
authentic >> ah thank's , and it's too cute to be drawn by a punk lover ,seems weird !
am7 >> man ,your advice help me a lot ,hope you'll find it nice now
rudeone >> thanks man for the tip ! and your right !
i did a research on the net and i found that birds fly always in the same direction next to the ship.
and your welcome !

05 May 2005, 10:28 PM
Looking good! I have one thing: you should skew the text on the barrel slighty up on the right side to match the top of the barrel, also bend it like the top of the barrel.

BTW, I like punk too, aswell as all kinds of rock, bloody videogames and violent movies and go look at my cute painting, pretty weird when I think of it:D

05 May 2005, 03:36 AM (

this is the final coloring ,i have just little details to do on the water, tomorrow i will submit the final image .

05 May 2005, 03:45 AM
