Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Headphones concept (

At the beginning I also considered doing a 'brady bunch' layout with the man's head in the middle listening to headphones with multiple wires connected to other boxes. Here was a color sketch i did of the central character

as soon as i got the e-mail i knew what id do this one on. My entry will be about the slave mentality of young black men in America as well as the real pressures, institutionalized hatred and racism we have to live with on a day to day basis. there are a number of topics i already know i want to include

arnold schwarzaneggar makes nothing but violent rated r movies his entire career, is by all accounts a womanizer during marriage, and isn't born in America. Not only is he elected as govenor but discussed as cause to change the entire criteria for electing presidents. Meanwhile black rappers are constantly criticized and singled out both by the media and law enforcement for their music's 'violent imagery'.

Every time affirmative action is mentioned black people are shown. The largest beneficiaries of Affirmative action were confirmed as white women , but black men have the stereotype of being welfare dependent so they are always cited. It'll be jam piece style, profile of a man struggling with different topics on his'mind' so to speak

going beyond a basic montage to also include the main character's head being unraveled by the angel and devil cherubs. Devil will be a pair of blasting horns. The necklace dangling will have a cross hanging upside down to illustrate the uselessness slaving to religion has shown for actual progress in the community. i'm also going to have a shackle on one wrist and a handcuff on another to illustrate the transition from slavery to a prison industrial society as it was revealed in the last year or so that there are more black men in prison than in college for the first time in history (the sampling age is not limited to what's considered college age but the statistic is still obscene)

Dropping in the colors and starting some basic rendering on the pic. important details like the main figure's eyes i'll save for last.

Not a lot of time but i was swamped with coloring and some other things. i'll devote a few hours to finishing it up tomorrow and upload the concept art i did for it.

Just realized in re-reading the rules that the final image must be 300 dpi at least, for bot the jpeg and the tif. I'll reupload on both. I made minor changes to the shackles even with more time i have pages to color. If i had been a little more free in my time I'd have made sure to spend more on it but paying work always takes priority. i had fun working on it.

Thanks for peepin it, just trying to do something a little different and maybe more relevant to where we live. I really liked the idea of the shackle to handcuff transition to represent the society adjustment from slavery to prison industrial complex although if i could do it again i'd go with more exaggerated shackle on his neck to make it more restricting.
