Thanks for the welcome!

I'm having too many thoughts today to nail one down...and with all the talent already entered I think I'm just gonna be glad to be here :bounce:

Thinking more "humorous" than anything. This was my first thought. There will likely be other Concept sketches, but for now it's a start....ah sibling love =)

03-28-2005, 08:25 PM (

Taking a different direction style-wise but trying to keep some humor to the piece =)

Yo Brian!

Amazing lineart! i'm going to keep an eye on this thread! see where it goes, your 2nd sketch is better than your first one, but the premier sketch is hilarious!

go with the humor!

take care!
keep it up
c-ya later

03-28-2005, 10:05 PM
wow!! You guys succeeded in making me blush so bad my ears turned red  Really!

03-28-2005, 10:45 PM
I like you style of drawing, its very clear and strong. so do you have a story of what is going on in your drawing yet?

03-28-2005, 10:59 PM

Nope. No story yet...just thinking about the creature being brought to "heel" at first...I've been thinking a lot about late 19th century-ish costumes lately (for no reason) so that part just kinda fell in. I haven't really decided whether or not I want to actually paint it or make it look like a magazine cartoon. Who knows...given this little picture, I guess it's possible to build a whole general world outlook...dammit, now I'm thinking too much =)

03-30-2005, 07:16 PM (

Just repeating the concept as the line art entry...=)

03-30-2005, 07:18 PM (

Some basic color in the background and some extra experimentation on the beastie...trying to find a good look for the fur.

03-30-2005, 07:58 PM
I like the composition and the beast mingled with the hob-nob society. I am a little confused about whether the man in the suit just hit the beast, or if he is ummmm... 'poking' him with something.

03-30-2005, 08:34 PM

Thanks! Initially, he was supposed to have him on a leash, but as things are progressing I may change that to him whacking the beastie with a fireplace poker or something else a little more visible...dunno.

03-30-2005, 11:08 PM (

More work to the beastie...

03-31-2005, 12:44 AM
Great pic. Only one crit - beast looks like he was brushed carefully, make him more shaggy it always looks cool (imo).

04-01-2005, 09:59 PM (

Added a soft shadow to the beastie...added some basic colors for the leash and did probably too much work to the handler.

04-01-2005, 10:00 PM
thats excellent,friggin awsome work!

04-01-2005, 10:55 PM
Woah cant beleive I never saw this one before...Bigfoot and butlers...what more can you ask? I love your colors and your concept! Dont change for anyone! This is sweet!

04-01-2005, 11:18 PM
"bigfoot and butlers"...

<lol> Hadn't thought of that way =)

Thanks guys!

04-05-2005, 06:26 PM (

Little more work to the handler and beastie. Starting on the background characters now.

04-05-2005, 06:34 PM
That's pretty funny, Brian! It's looking good so far. The faces are really expressive, and I really like hte way you've renderred the fur. This is just my opinion, but thecreature's nose feels too light, too candy-colored-pink. And also, the liquid from the glasses isn't quite reading as fluid yet, more like ooze. Wish I could offer suggestions on fixing that, but that's a really tough substance to render. Maybe more opacity and hilights closer to the edges so that it doesn't look so thick? But I don't really know...

Anyhow, good luck with it!

04-05-2005, 09:21 PM (

Thanks for the crit Mike!

Just a little more work hopefully making the liquid appear more like liquid and some more work to the background characters...

COol. looking really nice. Where was this thread before?... GOod colour choices and i like the subject and humor about it. I feel kinda bad for the big guy though... hehe.
I'll be watching your thread from now on. Goodluck

Working out nice! Some suggestions:
-darken the lightyellow fur-streaks on beasts chests cause thers a lot of shadow there
-add more speculars to beast nose, or darken it (like someone mentioned it before me)
Really like everything else, do your best with the background!

Hello Brian! Nice work mate! Great clean style and some great expressions going on. I feel really sorry for the creature... What'cha gonna put in the picture?

04-18-2005, 05:06 PM
yeah, clean, funny, & weird  summarize it all... m not sure about the ladys whinny... also, you're stl planngng of putting some fig. on the painting right? great work dude!!

04-18-2005, 06:58 PM
Thanks for looking folks! I thought for sure the thread was buried beyond retrieval (at least til I updated it next)

Don't quite know what's going in the picture frame yet...maybe some sort of classic style portrait or other classic scene. Still working the background out overall in my head. There'll likely be a grand piano in there before I'm done.

Not feelin' real good 'bout the lady overall myself. Time to look for reference on both the pose and style of dress. She doesn't seem to fit as well as I'd like. C'est la guerre...=)

Thanks again...and of course to everyone who looks: Please feel free to crit as much as you'd like. I'm not going to take offense at a good crit ;)

Nice job.:) Only the fur would be a little thinner on his left. The other side has a few fine hair.
I am missing it on the left :)

good work. nice painting. good luck

hahahaha, a very humorous piece. i feel as though your mindset and view on life is reflected in this painting. one comment however, is that i cannot tell how the monster is sitting on thr ground, of even if he is. his positioning and anatomy (not asking for it to be "correct") is very difficult to read, almost as if hes coming up from a hole in the ground... maybe some hint of how he is on the floor? other than that, cool!
