Latest Update: Coloring WIP: Quick color test (

Just a quick color test.

First sketch, trying out for a look and feel. Setting the mood/compostition etc. The guy floating on the right is a residu from another idea. Left him in for the fun of it. The composition is based around the top right of the picture. I added the body of the animal at a later stage.

friggin hell that looks amazin.!!

03 March 2005, 08:42 PM
Cheers mate

Nice concept Supervlieg... Can't wait to see more!

03 March 2005, 09:41 PM
Good luck, supervlieg! Good to see another DSGer here-- we're taking the challenge by storm!
I'll swing by every now and again and crit. Looking good so far, though I'm not really sure what's going on in the picture. Explain?

03 March 2005, 10:13 PM
Kind of a carnivorous, gigantic bull...looks like:)
Quite an action scene. I'll be coming back to see what happens.

Good luck!

03 March 2005, 10:19 PM
Well its a slave beast, being ridden by some fat bloke who is its master. Why its such agony I have yet to figure out. The guy floating the scene on the right is a leftover from another idea. I kinda like him in there to confuse everyone :D

Here's another study of the slave beast

03 March 2005, 10:22 PM
WOW! thats what i call incredible imagery!!

03 March 2005, 10:33 PM
Hello Yannis,

Nice start

03 March 2005, 11:44 PM
Hey Supervlieg, nice to see you join the challenge!
Not going for a cartoony look this time?
Good luck buddy

03 March 2005, 11:50 PM
My goodness! All rad! RAAAAD!!! Keep going with this. I love the mutant boar!

03 March 2005, 08:51 AM
Noob: Thank you :)
Element5: Thanks man, I hope the follow ups will be better :D
Art2: Thanks! No cartoony stuff for me this time. I like to see how far I can take this "realistic" thing. Looking forward to your wip btw.
Teknotek83: The mutant boar loves you too man, hehe.

03 March 2005, 11:32 AM
Great start there Yannis. I really like the movement in the piece. Your colour study of the slave beast is cool too. I really like your conceptual style. keep up the good work and good luck with the challenge.

03 March 2005, 11:47 AM
That's an imaginative beast, but at the moment it looks like all servant and no master. I'd suggest that the master is the important one in the relationship, so even if he (or she) is much smaller, he needs to make an impression. Maybe you'll sort this out through colour use, or a clear, detailed facial expression, I don't know. I can only go with what's there now and I don't think you have the balance right.

03 March 2005, 09:45 PM
Tariq12: Thanks man!
Baron Impossible: You have a point. However the focus of the piece will be on the master/slave relation of the two. And the guy/master/driver will be very much in control. Im still working out what will work best for the piece. I like the movement in the first sketch, and Id like to incorporate the movement in such a way that it ties in with the theme. May sound vague, but Im at a stage where Im still figuring things out anyway. So Im not really focusing on specifics, just trying to get a look and feel down.

03 March 2005, 10:17 PM
looks interesting. can't wait to see what you come up with!

03 March 2005, 10:47 PM
that looks really great!

03 March 2005, 10:59 PM
Digital Bobert: Thanks! Are you entering as well?
Mordalles: thanks :)

Another update, a slight variation on the first sketch. This should be heading more towards establishing the master/servant relation between the two subjects. Crits welcome!

03 March 2005, 11:11 PM
Wow Good to see You Super-duper vlieg!

You've made your mark in the DSG, so now I'm looking forward to what you'll end up with!

thanks, auf viederseen

I know you're Dutch, so I'm just tryin' to be a bit netherlandish

03 March 2005, 11:15 PM
Cool sketches... love the mark making, the movement and the looseness... particularly that last one!

I'll look forward to seeing where you take these...

03 March 2005, 11:32 PM
Great start SuperV!
Heres another pattented original SuperV creature.
Real nice sense of motion right now. Im looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Adamos: Thanks man. Dankjewel.
Duddlebug, Mustardwash: Thanks for the positive vibe.

03 March 2005, 05:39 PM
the concept sketch has a clearer explanation of the master and servant relationship, but it loses the diagonal line of action that worked so well in the first sketch, maybe a cross between the two

03 March 2005, 07:20 PM
It doesn't look to me the Master is fully in control of the beast.
Maybe you should take inspiration from the movie Dune, where they ride those giant Worms.
The Rider stands tall and secure and in total control. Maybe let the beast tear up some enemy soldiers with the Master watching, controling and laughing. Just an idea :)

Keep it up!

03 March 2005, 04:09 PM
Applejak: I like the diagonal orientation in the first one too. Ill try to bring it back in the new sketches
art2: Good suggestions. The riders from Dune are a good example. I think having the guy stand is a very good idea. Thanks. Ill be incorporating those suggestions in the forthcoming sketches.

03 March 2005, 04:13 PM
yea this looks dynamic , I already wanna see the dust
billowing around the beast and the droplets of sweat running
down the master's face !

03 March 2005, 04:19 PM
hehe thanks, The kicked up dust and sweat is in the works :)

I'm also looking for a background setting that contrasts with the diagonal lines of the beast. I have no idea what that will be yet. Ill try to incorporate that into the next sketch.

03 March 2005, 01:09 PM
master in action to direct his slave... your concept has a good spirit.
good luck...

04 April 2005, 12:46 AM
Very cool piec, like the dynamic and the power of your 1st sketch a lot.

POV:hard to describe, id move the "cam" a bit towards the beast and right, so you see the beast a bit more frontal. at the moment it still looks a bit like a schematic view to me. that way, both faces are more centered into the image and you can put in well their expresions. i liked the sense of scale you had in your 1st concept.
about the beast anatomy, i think the backleggs atre looking too weak now to carry it.
i think it's called settle, the thing he sits on. if its that high, he wont see much whats in front of him. the neck position looked more logical to me.
hope those pionts help. of course, tey are my personal point of view and only a matter of taste, as always. :)
keep up the great work,
have loadsa fun and best luck

04 April 2005, 07:16 PM
wassup sup? Hehe waiting for your next update!

Rock on!

04 April 2005, 07:37 PM
the1rst_angel: Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I was thinking of moving the POV. Im not quite sure which way I shall go with it. I kinda like the dramatic side view of the first sketch. Somehow the beast loses some impact when I try to do more frontal stuff. Ill fiddle around with it and update soon.

Goro: Hehe, patience my friend. I've had little time last week. But its coming. I'll keep you posted.

04 April 2005, 09:30 PM (

Ive changed the perspective. Also made the master into a woman. Seems to make the contrast between the Master and servant a bit bigger. Im not quite happy with the posture. Im sure Ill change the scene a little before it will be the final composition.

Ill also start work on a coloring scheme.

04 April 2005, 09:36 PM
Hey hey looking good! Make sure there's no sharp spine thingie where the driver stands.
She could hurt her buttocks during ruff rides :)
Awesome theeth!

04 April 2005, 09:47 PM
hehe, Thanks. She's got one of those special back nail clippers for those :D

04 April 2005, 11:40 PM
nice concept mr sup!
Ah and I see you changed the plane ;)

Think the master could be a bit smaller. Would support the composition and size

04 April 2005, 08:57 PM (

Update on the previous scene. I wasn't quite happy with the scene, so I changed the setting, and some of the postures.
It's going to be a more busy scene, with lots of little master and servant things going on in the background. Still cant wait to get on with the color, but Ill have to do a more clean line art version first. Crits are welcome!

04 April 2005, 10:33 PM (

Just a quick color test.

04 April 2005, 08:16 AM
wow I really like this one :)

Its great to see how well your enviroment works. I really like it being busy and cramped street. Lots of happening going on. Good base for imagination to build a cool story.

Dunno about the master and servant thing.. looks bit cliche, but very good anyway

good luck!

04 April 2005, 09:56 AM
i really like the brush strokes and the mood of the pic , nice work , just want to see more:eek:

04 April 2005, 11:52 AM
very good pic with an excellent composition. I wait the painting detail, good work

04 April 2005, 12:17 PM
i realy like it so far... keep the updates comming i want to see how this one turns out.

04 April 2005, 08:29 AM
Fab!! This looks like it'll be a lot of fun!!

The setting is great... loadsa scope for detail and extra stuff. It'll be great if you can get in all the different 'master and servant' details.

Good luck with it!!

04 April 2005, 09:45 AM
Thanks for the feedback guys, Its good to get some input.

Falcor: Thanks, its hard to get around those cliche's. Hopyfully Ill come up with some more original background M&S theme's

Tuck: Thanks! I planning to clean it up a lot though. So I dont know yet to what amount the brushstrokes will be visible.

Slav: Thanks, updates will be coming!

Duddlebug: Thanks for the encouragment :D

04 April 2005, 10:19 AM
yey sup is back!

Looking good. But less dynamic in my eyes. I think it's the camera angle and the pose
of the big monster. He isn't running after the little one. Just walking. Anyways
nice concept!

04 April 2005, 02:03 AM
Hi! the colors seem ok, but a little too peaceful maybe, something that makes them snap is missing... perhaps you could improve the sense ov movement trying to add some curved elements to the sides of the beast, like it's breaking them on its rampage. I would also suggest more contrast between the beast and the background, is kinda hard to read now (compare the b/w sketch and the colored to see what i mean)

go vlieg go

Sir Patroclo

Hahan rowdyship turned out a ladyship and ladyship rox it ruff. Love your new compo, was great to take up the former sense of scale. the beast always was cool, the schene now is filled with fun and action, lol, it makes appetite for much nonsense (like a chicken using the moment of panic and escape from the cook... and running towards the cam.. uhm.) that sort of scenes are so cool, love your update! keep on rocking!

05 May 2005, 11:54 PM

Will you finish this pic?
