Latest Update: Final Image: Guards of the queen

For this project and challenge, of which I arrive at the end I wanted
of adventures of populated mysterious countries of strange beings and
great times fantastic, well on I thought of all these account of Edgar
Rice Burroughs with Tarzan, or Robert E Howard and Conan, and
the imageries who result from this, I have to keep a very great
admiration for Frazetta, it is I believe the first book of painting of
héroic fantasy which I opened and there as much I made "whouaa.." but
I am not alone with being it to fall under the charms from the Master,
I believe that some share that my to give desire for making this
trade, therefore with this painting without any claim I wanted to make
a great homage to all these large Mister who made me dream. For the
techniques realization although that made not badly of time which I
work numerically especially for my commands of customers my heart
remains attached to true the oil-base paint that I practise for my
pictures personnel, the odor, the grain of a fabric, finish it of a
varnish and the fact of creates a single original remains my greater
satisfaction, of this fact I am to apply to reproduce this feeling of
traditional work to which I am so much attached. I hope that the
development of this painting you with more and amused as much as has
me. I wish all the best with all the participant for their great
creations and this sharing if enriching between artists and says to
you can be with soon for other adventures graphics, by "CROM"

Here my first idea and direction for this challenge I think of making
a heroic fantasy painting, and on this occasion to pay a homage to
the Master of the style which is Frazetta for which I have a very
great admiration since I started to draw, I it is that much imitates
it, even if him even it is inspired by other artists, for me it
remains the best, the idea of this exercise of style can amuse me, It
is not very original like concept, therefore I will continue to seek
other thing, but while waiting for here my drawing with like titrates:
\"Dogs of the queen\".
Thank you for your comments.

03-24-2005, 02:54 PM
were dooooomed!!

excellent piece ,damn the detail...

03-24-2005, 03:24 PM
first of all...
Let me congratulate you on your VERY UNIQUE space opera entry! looking forward to your entry and going to follow it through progress. It's the first time I check this thread and I'm amazed that you've got so many details already put down in your first concept! almost final image quality...

will be watching...

Bon soir! :)

Excuse my french :D

03-24-2005, 04:16 PM
good start, but i think you put too much details in the picture.
personnaly i will take off the big ork in the back of the lady...personnaly.

03-24-2005, 05:05 PM
i don't think its too much detail.

maybe lack of definition,i guess sum parts are difficult to understand at first glance.

i think it excellent, but if u want, space out things a bit more,OR maybe colour will sort that out.

i'm still a fan,hehe.

03-24-2005, 05:20 PM
what the~~!!its very good tranchefeux!i think its fine with the amount of details u have for now.the final image is beyond my imagination now since this is only the 1st sketch...:thumbsup:a killer pic indeed.keep it coming mate

03-24-2005, 05:27 PM
That is one fabulous sketch, fits perfectly to the theme and actually you could post that as lineart... I can already imagine how the finished piece would look like... :)

03-24-2005, 05:57 PM
cool pic, i'm remembering all the Conan the Barbarian comics i read..
criticswise, the queens loin area looks disturbing...

03-24-2005, 06:21 PM
Wowwwwwwwwwwwww Very gooood. :buttrock:
This is why you are my favorite 2d french artist.....I am really impressed. That's really far from what I am able to draw.
I will always wonder how someone can draw like that, adding so many details. hummm, if only, I could do the same, snif:sad:
Great start though .I think you should keep this one and work on it .:)

03-24-2005, 06:39 PM
Always so much talent, I do not know if it will be your final concept but it begins terribly well. The whole character is very realized well. Can be at the level of the creature in long teeth, should you work again the proportions between legs and trunk, although I understand that it is the shape wanted, I find that disproportions is too important well, it is only my humble opinion

03-24-2005, 07:05 PM
It's really fine that you test your wonderful textures on "organics" characters.
I'm impatient to see how it will grow... but it already promisses.
Good luck !

Mysterious X
03-24-2005, 07:14 PM
you have to put a (I will blow ur minds away with my first sketch) warning man this is just fantastic and those (dogs) are just perfect..but i think it's a little too crowded..and another thing..i don't understand why the knight is there (the one you see from the background)

can't wait to see your other sketches

03-24-2005, 07:33 PM
excellent start buddy... dam u are prolific. can not wait to see what u present us with in the final.

ps. well done on your GSO!

03-24-2005, 07:45 PM
Looking awesome, so far! Can't wait to see this one develop!

03-24-2005, 07:53 PM
Ah another Frazetta fan! Nice work so far. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

03-24-2005, 08:22 PM
you have your own style! very unique !

03-24-2005, 09:06 PM
Frazetta would be proud to see this himself I believe........Again as before eric,a wicked concept with strength and danger all around........i will follow this close always.....very interesting and again special in style and design......Bonne chance.....

03-24-2005, 10:55 PM
Amazing concept !

That will be a fabulous hommage !

bonne chance !

(un fan :) )

03-24-2005, 11:03 PM
Wow, an amazing start! Frazetta is a fantasy pioneer for sure and well worth the admiration.

The way You've signed your name is a nice touch :)

03-24-2005, 11:21 PM
scary, but that's a great sketch...pleasse continue.

03-25-2005, 03:41 AM
look forward to seeing your process again, I admire your work!

03-25-2005, 08:13 AM
AWESOME start............! :buttrock: Claireabella

03-25-2005, 09:21 AM
You can tell that not a really original concept, but the mood and the style of it is excellent and it fit really the title of this contest

Eric, I'm totally under the charm of your first skecth. I found a mix between legend and mytology and a wonderful 'equilibre' in the image. Movement and dynamics are spectacular... so actually absolutely no crit just an :applause: .
Wonderful black/shadows and white contrats...

03-25-2005, 09:27 AM
Omg Wow O_o!!!

03-25-2005, 06:37 PM
Super thank you with all for your comments on this first drawing of
beginning of challenge and your encouragement. I am glad to see that
you like my direction even if it is not very original, but good, I
want above all to have fun, and I feel mood to make this style of
painting I have re-examined this sctech and idea of starting, it
attracts me, have just started with him, after some modifications, but
this after midday, while I fessais a Cake in hyper for a packaging an
other scene of héroic fantasy but come to the spirit. I thus will
produce a new drawing which will be close beginning of week. Of the
level realization of painting I do not think that I would make a style
hyper, but rather dynamic, to see according to time that I could
devote to it, this time only 2 months ago, which is for me a truth
handicaps because of my other jobs.
Thank you still for your criticisms with which I loss greatest attention

03-25-2005, 07:55 PM
Wow! Great pen and ink technique Tranchefeux! I can't wait to see this in colour! Keep up the great work!

03-26-2005, 06:05 PM
you've already establish you style keep at it! do you draw directly on you r tablet?

03-26-2005, 06:46 PM
Absolutely insane amount of detail for that sketch (did you do it it pen or on a tablet?).
Can't wait to see more from this :) . (BTW, I thought your GSO entry was excellent)

03-26-2005, 07:26 PM
You can definitely see the Frazetta influence. Good luck.

regarded warrior
03-26-2005, 07:35 PM
definitely looks Frazetta right now. good luck to you!

03-26-2005, 08:14 PM
good beginning tranchefeux...

I like the concept , but the sketch seems to be a little to "classic" for the compositon the angle of view all these features you know...

I think the scene must be reviewed to give more impressive style to the view...

03-26-2005, 09:45 PM
Fantastic Technique, beautiful drawing, compostion, great interpetation of the theme. I am going to enjoy following this thread. Good luck!

03-26-2005, 10:17 PM
wow, youre work look amazing! cant wait to see more!

03-27-2005, 03:18 AM
woah! Incredible start. Drawing technique n insane detail aside, I like the concept n scene.

03-27-2005, 05:23 AM

03-27-2005, 08:50 AM
Very good illustration!

03-27-2005, 03:52 PM
Thank you for your new comments,
I will be able to send a new drawing
tomorrow that will not be a complete scene but just one of the
character the remainder will come after, time for me to see different
direction and to carry them out, for the techniques question about the
execution of this 1st drawing I it is done directly with the tablet,
but for this Noir&blanc style I prefer to work with the feather into
traditional, it will be the case for the other drawing to come.
with soon.

Here a new drawing for another composition on which I reflected, it
acts of a bodyguard follower of the "power ball":), it will have a
broad place in the image, surely in the foreground, I will tackle
total page-setting of my new idea and could send it soon to you.

PS: For the technique questions this drawing at summer made with the
feather into traditional.

03-28-2005, 12:16 PM
that looks sweet!! i love ur details, give him a bigger hammer though.

03-28-2005, 12:22 PM
Yeh!!Nice one again that guardian, man!!!Although I agree with NOOB for the hammer.I also find the charcter pose a little too static,a little bit like he has been frozen or something, Anyway I know already great art will come out here again and I wish you all the fun and luck!!!

03-28-2005, 12:46 PM
Wow man!

great sort of details on the characters! Their expressions are too strong! It will become a great and clever work.

see ya on the process!

03-28-2005, 01:26 PM
ur stuff is getting crazy and crazier~~!http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/eek.gifthe amount of details and the design are awesome!
hmm..like replies mentioned above, the pose looks alittle stiff indeed.i'll be back for more~~http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

03-28-2005, 01:33 PM
I dont know how you can get so much detail into your images and still retain your sanity!

03-28-2005, 03:33 PM
Very nice!

Only thing what might have done the piece look better is turning the walking path slightly off from left to right :)

I dont think this very typical style youre usually using. Atleast by looking at your website.

Good luck!

03-28-2005, 04:28 PM
like always, a very good draw, but, it's a new idea or you integrate this in your first sketch?

03-28-2005, 04:58 PM
Cool work, you always make your Tranchefeux style and it is great!

I love the Buscema (or frazetta) references even if the costume design is more closer to the Art of Simon Bisley.
It is reminded me the old conan comic books ^_^

03-28-2005, 06:25 PM
Thank you for the comment, I will see for the hammer, good

Thank you for the comment, for the installation, it is true
that it is a little static, but the remainder of the composition will
be more dynamic, therefore I think that there will be a good balance
I hope.

Gus clifton:
Thank you for your encouragements.

Thank you for your remark and interest on the post.

Jose Pardo;
I it is not either why I makes details at this stage of
search, the problem when I begin a drawing it is that I am not able
any more to stop:), thank you for your supports.

Thank you for the comment, not indeed have seldom orders me
this kind of illustration which is intended more for the edition, for
which I work seldom considering the very low budget, but I adore this
style and amuses me much to do it.

Thank you for the comment, not it is not made to come in the
1st skecht, I left on other thing, I think that that will be better
like direction, of seeing.

Thank you for your remark, yes this time I want to make
heroic imagination, and I is very fan of all his super artists
that you site, even if I prefer Frazetta because there remains the
release of all the others which melts this style, I will try to make a
homage, it is not very original, but me I am there to amuse me, You
joint not with the challenge to defend our colors.

03-28-2005, 10:14 PM
wow! simply stunning! maybe i should just gather all my paint brushes and go sell them, and then go into something unartistic like . . . like accounting! you guys are just too good.

ps, im not trying to offend accountants, im currently 4th year studying it, so . .. im offending myself.

03-28-2005, 10:55 PM
YES, you found some time to work a bite!
you have no pytie for F. , the tigre look familiar..

03-28-2005, 11:34 PM
Excellent concept sketches.

Do you have a final idea yet ???

Frazetta is a good one to pay homage to.

I was wondering what sort of color scheme will you be using???

03-28-2005, 11:36 PM
Could turn out very good. Like the drawing, lots of detail in there.

03-29-2005, 12:18 AM
Hi Tranchefeux

I just stopped in to see your developments - I love your new drawing- POWERFUL CHARACTERS, POWERFUL TECHNIQUE!

03-29-2005, 12:40 AM
Amazing linework, reminds me of Burne Hogarth or perhaps Sam Keith's work when he was doing Prince Namor for Marvel.

No crits yet, I'm keeping track of this one.

03-29-2005, 11:56 AM
Hey guys, thank you for the last follow-ups,
I think of being able to send my other concept tomorrow.
E.T :arteest:

03-29-2005, 12:00 PM
very simon bisley-eque!
cool stuff

03-29-2005, 01:16 PM
Yes, I adore Simon Bisley, it is surely the worthy successor with
Frazetta his spiritual son, with 3 acids in the head. :D

03-29-2005, 05:25 PM
cool concepts, a bit too dense style but that's just my taste. That bodyguard in your previous sketches is scary

Small setting in fast volume of my character, the occasion to see
another option on the animal, the transfer of a Lion and a Tiger.

03-30-2005, 09:02 AM
looking great still!

03-30-2005, 11:32 AM
another stunning drawing... :wip: + :applause:

03-30-2005, 12:12 PM
I'm a detail freak myself........i like this subject matter a lot..........looking good

03-30-2005, 12:12 PM
Je n'ose imaginer réellement le résultat final... je félicite donc par avance le grand "Artiste" que tu es...     (celui qui a droit au "A" majuscule :buttrock: )

I can't imagine the final picture... congratulation my dear "Artist"

03-30-2005, 12:17 PM

I am following this like NUTS

Cause Greeks have the very very beautiful old stones... and ouzo... slouvaki and philos (I'm not sure of the orthography, but I'm sure that sticks to the fingers :scream: )(also beautiful kilts for their gods and their soldiers, with black pompoms at the end of the shoes) :banghead:

Dimi -> :beer:

03-30-2005, 03:26 PM
I love frazetta's work, so for me your style is great. The last shot feels that the two are too close to each other in space. It looks as if the man should be tripping in the next image over the creature. Otherwise man its just fantastic. Good work, keep it up!

03-30-2005, 03:36 PM
Personally Tranchefeux ( cool name by the way ) I think you're line work looks different then Frazetta. When I looked at your first image, it reminded me of the old, old Tarzan comics. Maybe Frazetta did some tarzan stuff? Don't know much about him. A very cool retro feel. But after looking at this recent image, its distinctly you're own. You've got an amazing eye for detail. You're Liger is bad ass!

03-30-2005, 11:34 PM
Fierce and fantastic..........:arteest:

New concept version 01

03-31-2005, 12:26 PM
thats an excellent concept man! extreme detail i luv it,better than the last.

03-31-2005, 12:28 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6157/6157_1112272086_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6157/6157_1112272086_large.jpg)

Here my second direction for the challenge, I remain in my heroic
fantasy and of homage to Frazetta. I think that this
direction will be the final ones, because it is more dynamic and
exotic by the decorations. and amuses me more than the first, I
however will study some options of change, in particular, Lion or
tiger?, The dynamic ones of the characters, it it also can that I
remake the colossus of the foreground, for more action, to see in next
the post.
Thank you for your follow-ups.

03-31-2005, 12:37 PM
This is so great. I can't wait for the colors because the black and white contrast is hurting my eyes!! http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/scream.gif It's looking really amazing. Keep it coming!

03-31-2005, 12:40 PM
I prefer the second one... effectively, more dynamic... the thing I don't like in the first was the head of the lion, too much of face... that seem disturbing... great man

03-31-2005, 01:45 PM
keep it up man!good luck

03-31-2005, 01:47 PM
This is going to be huge! That is some awesome detail you're putting in. Can't wait to see it finished. Spectacular!

03-31-2005, 01:55 PM
Love your composition...Good Luck!

03-31-2005, 02:01 PM
Cool man, it has a sort of a warcraft atmosphere , i like it alot, keep it up

03-31-2005, 02:42 PM
All these tiny little details... man, this is amazing!

C´est absolument extraordinaire!

Go on like this!

peace, pete

my Master & Slave 2D (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=225858)

03-31-2005, 03:06 PM
Welcome back Eric! Congratulations from past and present works!
Great sketch, very Frazetta, as you said. Just one critic: the lion mouth looks as it where smiling. I know it is part of it's anatomy and it is common in some Frazetta's drawings, but I would prefeer something more menacing, agressive to the invaders... perhaps it is on the eyes, not the mouth, I dont know... See you around!

03-31-2005, 05:02 PM
excellent amount of detail! i also love the latest composition. it gives the feel of a heated battle and i love the warrior/tiger. i love the strength you take from frazetta's works. maybe push the composition to make it even more dynamic by adding enemy's more in the foreground. otherwise, i love it.

03-31-2005, 10:57 PM
ARgh ! A chaque nouveau concept je me régale ! :) Vivement la version couleur ! Bonne chance encore !

04-01-2005, 10:28 AM
OK! now it's more dynamic!!
even if the human character is a bit straight!

go ninja. go.

04-01-2005, 11:44 AM
Fantastic work !
Well done!

04-01-2005, 12:02 PM

Teknotek83: Thank you for the comments, the colors will come

it it can that it disappears.

Kingsal888: thank you for your supports, the image still will
evolve/move, because I am not completely satisfied, the warrior and
the lion, surely will disappear for more actions.

Strike: moi aussi je me régale avec tes postes, avec Lemog vous représentés dignement nos couleurs, go, go pour la suite.

Chopider: thank you for your supports.

To summarize, I continuous my mayonnaise, of which here a good receipt:

To put the yellow egg at the bottom of a bowl. Y to add a salt pinch
and a spoonful to mustard soup. To add a little oil and to beat
vigorously. As soon as the mixture hardens, to gradually add oil while
never not ceasing beating. To add oil until realization of the
quantity of desired mayonnaise.

Omg, what an update! I really like the variety of things going on! But I feel as though the picture is too cramped together. Maybe make it wider and make some more space inbetween the left and right sides. Or maybe Just simply add more on both the right and left side...It's just missing something for me...Hmmm...I dont know just keep going , your latest sketch really intrigues me!

04-01-2005, 10:51 PM
tasty..............Just "fantastique"...........C'est vivant et dramatique.........! :arteest: :arteest:

Will some details moreover on the progression of the image, I change
the character with the lion, to have still an other direction on the
concept, which I think that its will be better? more dynamic, so as to
make my final choice before the execution of painting.

hei, looking cool there, reminds me of the dark gothic illus, keep goin:thumbsup:

04-04-2005, 11:52 AM
I like this sketch, in the same lineage as the first one, but I find her more dynamic. You said that you produced homage has frazzeta, kept silent case to use the technical meme, and the same render of painting?

04-04-2005, 12:21 PM
hey u ! u is sick!!!:D excellent work:applause: this will rock coloured

New changes on my concept ?, because I was not completely satisfied with
the last, I believe that this time it is the good, moreover I have to
begin work on some details, before past with the colors which will
come once the finished drawing, for painting I want to remain dynamic
in returned, not to make a too smooth image remain close to the Master.
Thank you still for the follow-ups.

04-04-2005, 12:57 PM
Radical changes, but excellent dinamics !

04-04-2005, 12:58 PM
Impressive. I like the concept. This comp looks better then the last, to me. Does the master have a gut? Can't wait to see this in color.

04-04-2005, 01:02 PM
This is by far the strongest of your designs. This reminds me of all those 'boy's own' adventure type comic books, which I love. They always had fantastic, dynamic images. I love the sense of action/drama contained within it! It actually reminds a little of the work of Burne Hogarth (used to draw Tarzan). His stuff was awesome.

As is yours!

04-04-2005, 01:34 PM
I like this update alot...

As good as you character and his 'kitty' looked... his perspective wa like as if he didn't have any shoulder depth. Hard for me to explain.. Like with the ancient Egyptian relief's. Lik you sort of flattened the two of them.
It had added a style to your work. But the depth this brings out gives much more.

Though at first glance, your image looks randomly busied. I have to apreciate the care you have shown on the details.
I hope they would be much more organised looking when you start to colour things out.

It is a very impressive image!

04-04-2005, 10:12 PM
To quote Keanu reeves: Woah....

That is some line art you have there. This is the kind of picture you could loose yourself in for days just taking everything in. The latest update is certainly the strongest compositionally, the elements seem to flow, the lines take your eye round the picture much more. This is fantasy at its best, I think, you can't beat beasts, barbarians and babes in bikinis. And you do all thre fantastically. As far as this update goes, I don't think I can offer any crit, just sit here and wait for the colour to flow!

04-05-2005, 07:58 AM
this piece is awesome!

everytime i look at it there is always something new to look at... and its not even teh final:thumbsup:
this time i inspected the pixel ink i found another thing new... something i wasn't so sure of(1st time that happened on this thread:)).. her belly... she doesnt have a tubby tummy does she?.. intentional?

great stuff waiting anxiously for next update

04-05-2005, 07:41 PM
Hi Eric

I like a lot your composition but there is something I dont like in this new one. I think the big warrior is too big and it divides the composition in a too obvious parts: left the agressors and right the defenders. I think the warrior needed more dinamic from your first sketch but in the new one it feels uncomfortable for me. Perhaps it is all the size, too big.
The rest is all okay. The detail is amazingly beautifull. Her belly is really nice. I am tired of muscle flat abdomen models. This clasic looks is more voluptuous for me. Dont change her, please! ;)

04-05-2005, 07:54 PM

Was hoping to see one of your baboons in this! Those are my favorites on your site. The dual personalities of humans kind of thing. Oh well. Nice picture you have going here anyway!
But wish the concept was a little deeper. Like the one with the baboon in the cathedral howling that is on your site. Was really impressed and inspired with that one. It said a lot.

04-08-2005, 02:22 PM
Everything I like is in your painting !
The only crit I could make at this point is a small lack of depth in the picture. But I assume this is a WIP so I'll wait and see.

Amazing so far !

PS : you should add a France Telecom engineer with a sword in the chest, somwhere in the picture, they deserve it...just a thought...:D

04-09-2005, 04:45 AM
Hi Eric I like the way you change the warrior hand and sword. Now the diagonal looks better. This is going great! Can't wait to see it colored!
Congratulations for the angels painting. I haven't seen it before. I had believe it was an antique painting. Excellent work!

Starting of the colors, I pass from the hues on my drawing and then
repaints above, I try to find colors rather rich in nuances and tries
to keep a wild spirit in the image.

04-09-2005, 06:09 PM
feux this is looking excellent, really dramatic piece.

04-09-2005, 06:11 PM
I love how well your work is developing. I think the yellow is a little to strong for my liking. But perhaps you already have something in mind. OVerall I like this piece, and I will check back soon to see how you develop it.

Gorgeous, wild, drama, great balance to the scene, chaos reigns supreme.....Very vivid.....I think the coloring is just right,it adds just the right mood and ambiance for this scene......Really great to follow eric.......

04-10-2005, 12:36 AM
I hate to say it at this stage of the process for you but, regardless of how great the image is and how much action you've packed into it, I can't get past how awkward and problematic the pose and physical proportions / contortions are of the main character in the foreground. There is just something about his right shoulder anatomy that is bothering me.

I love your work, the detail and effort that you put into them and would hate for all of that work to be lost because of an anatomy problem OR what appears to be an anatomy problem from my perspective.

Again, great work... just needs a little tweak here and there.

04-11-2005, 12:13 PM
ms@zx: Always thank you for your followed, for the belly of the queen
it is not finished, but I like the small belly like that.

Glenn Gallegos: thank you for your comments, the painting which you
likes is called food of the man it is true a oil-base paint made on
wood, the topic is a little deeper than for this challenge, but I also
have fun to make your subjects lighter and less cerebral.

Deadly Forces: thank you for your followed, I will try to bring back a
little of depth with the setting colors and the nuances, I would see
with the continuation.

Kaparo: Always thank you for your followed, yes the arm were
appropriate to me more and I think that it is well better thus and
puts the diagonal one, I hope to make a success of the continuation.

Noob: Always thank you for your followed, I will better do my, by

AirbORn: thank you for your comments, the yellow will disappear with
the fur that painting will evolve/move, for the moment I seek the hues
of the image.

Spacesnail: thank you for your followed.

Baron Imposible: thank you for your comments.

beelow: thank you for the witty remarks, I hope that the continuation
will like to you.

Virtuoso: hello Alien man 3d, always thank you for your follow-up.

cgkrusty: thank you for your comments, I am very attentive with your
remarks, I perhaps will re-examine some point, but in the whole of the
bodies I do not want to make academic anatomy, I like twist the
muscles, even to add some, I find that that adds character with my
painting, thank you still for your criticism which advance.

04-11-2005, 02:30 PM
its sharp, with lots of black shadows, which bothers the eye a little. try to soften them a bit and try to add a complementary shadow.. but in global it really reminds me of an old realisthic comic book school. the italian, and a little of conan. its very inovative, and brave to put a lot of characters in one picture, you really put a challenge in front of u. keep it up!:)

04-11-2005, 02:43 PM
I lost trace of your thread for a while and now I discover you already started the colouring!:scream:

I find it very dynamic and I have to say your style is instantly recognizable...
just a pity, the tiger disappeared:shrug:

I'll follow how it evolves.:)

Progression in the search of the colors, this
returned stage elements colors is not the final one, the black which
dominates much the image will disappear progressively with the
progress of the work and painting will begin really once all the semi
hues in place.

04-11-2005, 07:49 PM
Aastonishing level of detail and texture! Your work is amazing in general and this is no exception. I love the pose on the guy who gets shot by the arrow in the middle! The only thing I'd say is that I sort of miss some focal points in the picture. Places that the eye gets drawn to first, second, third and so on. Right now, everyting seems to me to be on the same level in value, but I assume you'll work that out with the colors, though.

Fantastic work so far and it's a joy to follow your process!

Details of the progression.

04-12-2005, 03:01 PM
you have such a unique style.... loveit. This could fit the theme of grand fantasy opera!! Heh. Very intricate stuff as always.. but i would like to see more depth to the image... your GSO had tons..keep it coming!

04-12-2005, 04:01 PM
Sup man.

I had to comment about the texture. Its just great! And overall i like how it has that old school fantasy art feel to it, like an old Conan comic book cover. Alot of that has to do with the details, which i appreciate so much.

Well done dude.

04-12-2005, 04:37 PM
beatiful work, I agree with the above. your style is very difficult, great job...The colours are so lush....

04-12-2005, 04:39 PM
Yes, it's just looking beautiful. A wealth of detail and so many little intricate things fitting togetehr compositionally. Just in this detail alone, you've got the arms, the bow, the woman's pointing finger... it all fits like a jigsaw puzzle... One that I'm looking forward to seeing completed! :-)

04-12-2005, 08:17 PM
Oh my GOD.
You are aiming for the "most detailed piece in the universe" award, don't you! :P All of the stuff looks simply great, I lovet he "illustration feel" that this piece has :P
Your style is one of the most unique I've seen and your patience for all the tiny tiny stuff sure makes me bow down :) Great!

04-12-2005, 09:16 PM
Whoa! How many different kinds of rich textures do you have in this painting?!! That's CRAZY, LOL! Awesome stuff... you're more of a detail freak then I'll ever be, I think

Keep it up, and I'll check back for updates. Cheers!

04-12-2005, 10:10 PM
This is cool !
But I have a few crits ::wise:

The queen looks a little like she's pregnant or something...this is a little strange.

While I was looking at your big warrior I thought there was something wrong with it : why such a big fellow like him uses so little weapons ? Of course, this is possible, nearly everything is, but considering that, the scene has less impact.

Another thing strange (I'm sorry ) is the angle between the hilt of his sword and the blade of that same sword. The edge of the blade is facing the background but the hilt indicates that it should be facing the left part of the composition.

However, I love the mood, colors and textures (and this is true :D ).
I could also add that my favorite character is the warrior in the lower left corner.

Good luck ! :buttrock:

04-13-2005, 08:52 AM
The queen looks a little like she's pregnant or something...this is a little strange.
keep it up.. would like an answer for the aboe tho

04-13-2005, 10:40 AM
hmm i think the colours are a tad to vibrant for the sort of scene u drew.

but thats only my opinion.

i agree, also, i thnk the guys too barbaric looking to hold such an intricate sword, just an idea. overall, awesome details, great job!!

ofcourse i'm waiting.....i know u are genius!

04-15-2005, 06:44 PM
omg more details?
this is insane, great great work, I'm losing my wits(that's very rare)....

04-15-2005, 08:32 PM
pretty amazing work, I mean all the detail, I'm pretty sure you hear this all the time
when I looked at yours first sketches, was like, this look like some old masterpiece, it' has that kind of style
I agree with others opinion, about Queen's belly and the sword, also think the colors are to sharp,
one more thing is Queen's face seems a little flat, I mean if you compare to the other faces,
they all have so much expression, and her's I think to plane for being a key character :applause:

04-15-2005, 09:42 PM
Such an in-dpeth piece full of action and color, movement, real alive and wild, primitive and I like the vibrant look.....it fits to me.......really always love to see your next steps.....just real top level art......:buttrock:

04-15-2005, 10:48 PM
Okay, I'll wait for the next steps !
Good luck ! :bounce:

04-16-2005, 09:00 AM
Neat perspective, fantastic caracters, and I love the style. But at the meoment it looks a little bit "busy", hard to find where to focus my eye.

Good luck :D

04-16-2005, 12:50 PM

Your picture look great, master and servant feeling is strong..good..however i think that there is too many contraste on your work..Background is too contrasted in comparaison with foreground...too many details in background i think...but it's just my feeling...

04-17-2005, 01:45 AM
Hi, do I wish to have that kind of talent. But i still workin' on it. =P
I really like your style: the details are amazing. I just can't wait to see the end result...=0)

04-17-2005, 07:31 PM
Always amazing Eric:bounce::bounce: Maybe you could add one detail or two ?? He he !
Very nice work. Keep going on. May FT be damned

Excellent - so many details to look at. Good dynamics, classic fantasy. Well done :applause:

04-17-2005, 07:50 PM
Amazing work^^ The sky still looks flat to me, but you mentioned you're going to add depth to it later.

Really, I like this. Very great movement and action in this one.

04-17-2005, 10:55 PM
wow! looking pretty epic!

i wonder if the body of the girl sit down, had to big torasix cage, and the left arm of the big guy in the front, is good, it look a bit turned?

Evolution of painting as a whole, I have remakes the bottom which is not finished in the details, I think of having more depth with him, the idea of the statue can add mystery with the image and plait well me, the color blue is not the final one,it is right while waiting for that I decide on another thing.

04-18-2005, 06:59 AM
Hi Eric, I love the sense of action and the character detail! I would say that your level of detail is so high that my eye can't really settle on one place, but I guess this is the trademark Tranchefeux style isn't it! Your GSO pic was just as detailed but was easier to view somehow. I'm really not sure what to suggest. Perhaps the sky needs to be lighter, and some generous shading needs to be introduced to break apart the eveness of the texture and separate the elements a bit more. I find the lower left orc guy disappears into the foliage for example.

But hey, I know you're going to keep developing it and I'm sure it'll be a masterpiece!

04-18-2005, 07:12 AM
For a fan of details like me, that's a real pleasure to discover your progress... really really good... I adore you art... but I think you know that yet... on en redemande Eric... un pur bonheur :arteest:

04-18-2005, 07:30 AM
 wow c'est super... amazing detailed coloration and wonderful image... really unique, like when I follow your GSO thread, this too rocks :applause:

04-18-2005, 08:26 AM
Yes everything lemog (lolo) said.........goes for me too.. ......Really coming even more beautiful and vibrant, and alive......great pleasure to see you create with such power and skill......bonne chance.......no you dont need it......it's all talent......:arteest: :arteest:

04-18-2005, 10:33 AM
It's going good! The colors are really beautiful and the bottom contrasts well with the first plan..I persists in saying that there are perhaps too many details on background..But it is right my impression.. any case it's a beautiful job:thumbsup:

Keep it up!

04-18-2005, 02:00 PM
i realy love your style.
the colour and composition are best.
waiting for your final colour
good luck

Speaky: thank you for your comments, yes the things will evolve/move especially for the bottom and the harmony of the colors.

Lemog: always thank you for your support, I continue for the other layers.

Jddog: thank you for your words and support, yes the GSO was sympathetic for me.

Virtuoso: always thank you for you your supports, of Malibu.

Fiolka Alexandre: thank you for your follow-up, for the details sorry but I find it enough software for the moment.

Xric7: thank you for your follow-up, I am in a hurry to see the end too.

04-18-2005, 08:41 PM
For the moment I continue the drawing of the statue and about the clouds, for my bottom, to much speaks me about the details but I rather make software on this image, at least I test, because I wanted to make a style painting.

04-18-2005, 09:31 PM
wow, some really great work!

04-18-2005, 09:47 PM
 well i guess it's a keeper. i like the whole war genre of it all, and the female masculinity. perfect. Eric Tranchefeux has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Your work is awesome with great colour. Keep more update

04-19-2005, 06:46 AM
I'll try and stay away from saying the obvious 'wow' and rather focus on what I personaly would change about this... it is already a great looking painting although I find it lacks depth. I think this may have been mentioned already but everything kind of looks flat like it's on the same level. It's hard to determin what to look at first and is a bit of an assult on the eyeball!
I realise this is your style and it actually reminds me of some early game graphics from the 90's.
The main guys hair looks a little broom like... very stiff. I think if you loosen the hair abit, it might animate him even more? One or two of the poses look a little unatural and uncomfortable but again, maybe this just comes down to style. I think making the main warrior the focal point and stepping off the detail from there... making the background out of focus would be the biggest help. What ever you do this will be very good, these crits are catered to my personal tastes. Best of luck! - jez:thumbsup:

Ilusiondigital: thank you for your follow-up by CROM

Jezzarts: thank you for your comments, I note your remarks you less those which I include/understand, For the depth, generally I make adjustments at the end with the copies what me give more order, for the Nineties it is in these years that I started to work as illustrator and of course I lived the influence of this time with these styles and where one worked into traditional.
For my painting present, it yet badly will not evolve/move, with various adjustments, therefore wait to see the end, thank you still for your remarks.

04-19-2005, 08:16 PM
I almost finished the drawing and modelled bottom without still the direction of the color, I post it tomorrow. For the continuation of the wip.

04-19-2005, 08:30 PM
looks excellent,like an epic painting.

04-19-2005, 10:03 PM
looks excellent,like an epic painting.

yeah, very unique, its kinda having a stone effect..

04-19-2005, 10:16 PM
Hi Eric! This is looking really great. The color scheme is very intense and the skin tones are excellent. But I think it looks now a little flat, since the background characters have the same intensity than the foreground ones. It was something that loks better in your uncolored image. Fading the background warriors in color and sharpening could help. Good luck buddy!! :applause:

04-20-2005, 06:24 AM
Yes kaparo, I agree for the same intensity on the characters, but that will evolve/move, because generally I regulate the various intensities at the end with the copies, thank you for your support.

Advance on the bottom, I deepened the drawing and details of the statu, of the cloud and mountain, the direction of the fill color is not made yet, when all are set up at the levels colors, I will be able to look further into painting..

04-20-2005, 11:53 AM
Impressive painting, very detailed and full of movement. I would only suggest to add a little fog or mist at the bottom of the mountain to separate elements in the foregroung a little more from the more distant elements.
You seem to almost be at the end of it.

04-20-2005, 12:01 PM
Now there's some serious action is going on! And love the backgound. The main thing that bothers me most is the main figure's pose (barbarian). It looks kinda uncomfortable and static. However I guess, I wouldn't be able to do it any better.

04-20-2005, 11:37 PM
Great work! Really colorful as opposed to your GSO entry. You have a very unique technique which is really wonderful.

Keep it up!

04-21-2005, 12:52 AM
Looking good

I like the old school feel it has

04-21-2005, 10:48 PM
I have to say I like this even more with the blue background. It's so "refreshing"! :D

looking really good some stuff need to be worked out but nothing i am sure you are not aware of. keep on with the updates.

04-22-2005, 06:44 PM
Right thank you with all for your last comments and followed on the advance of my painting, tomorow the continuation of my wip will be near with the direction final of background and some advance fill color on certain details.

Continuation of the progression, now I think of having found the harmony of the color on the whole of painting, I will be able to devote me to finalize the elements in theirs
details and to try to correct which ques errors, then I would regulate the depths of prospects, and would finish by returned textures,

04-23-2005, 08:23 PM
Wow very nice colors on your image, great work

04-23-2005, 09:06 PM
indeed excellent work!

04-24-2005, 12:49 AM
Looks good, but it seems weird to have a snowy mountain so close to a tropical enviroment. Maybe dry, kahki colored mountians would work better. Just a suggestion.

04-24-2005, 12:55 AM
Yo Trenchefeux!

that is alot of work you've been doing.

I've been chekin out this thead and noticed how much detail and work you've put into this.
It is almost like a dream, (I do apoligise for being cheesy there) but really WOW :) http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

04-24-2005, 02:59 AM
... Damn, that is excellent.

There's really nothing more I can say other than that. :bounce:

04-24-2005, 11:34 AM
nice texture work, and great dynamism. Personnaly colors need to be unified a little bit by a "camaieux". I would also make a hierarchy between elements, to make it clearer to read. Why not try to blur some background elements, just to have main characters more detached?

Good luck, Mr Tranchefeux !

04-24-2005, 11:46 AM
Whoa, so many details! Its hard to see where to start looking. Everything in this painting is so busy. Maybe you could bring out the main warrior more and lighten everything else a bit to give more contrast?

Your style reminds me a bit of Josh Kirby's works. Keep up with the effort!

04-24-2005, 07:00 PM
Arlutik: Thank you for the comments

Noob: always sympathetic nerve for your follow-up

Ace4016: thank you for the comments, for the mountains, I include/understand your point of considering, but in I find that fun and there is Kilimandjaro which is into full Africa thus why not.

Dulshad03: Thank you for the comments and supports. ArtisticVisions: thank you for the comments and supports.

eromoo: Thank you for your support and comments, yes it y does not have farmhouse of elements and indeed it is perhaps hard to fix the attention on the principal subject, I
will try to increase legibility on certain point, but as a whole, the image corresponds to my temperament because I like to emphasize each detail.

Artis: thank you for the comments and support, I surely will make some adjustments which corresponds as a whole to your remarks, generally at the end
basic work of the painting which is not finished yet, but the image will remain rather charged because I like to emphasize each elements, I am not one follower of the blurs, which are not the reflection of the reality of a human?il but rather of an objective of camera, my taste pictorial are very close to master Flemings or reading of the fabric this fact at the pouces square. A little hurdy-gurdy schools, but if not I do not have my amount.

Wahou, really impressive, too much details even for the resolution of my eyes ;)
Actually, that's not my kind of style but I have to admit, that's great. Freaking details.

If you allow me to critisize a little bit (even if I'm not enough skilled to do so), I find the girl's face not that expressive, I think it's due to your style because I'm really not used to it.

Even so, that's freaking great, all my respect for this piece.

If only I was able to do so...

04-26-2005, 12:18 AM

04-26-2005, 06:44 AM
