Anthony Chan has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Concept Sketch: setting the scene (

just roughed in the scene to get a better sense of the overall picture. Also tweaked the Golem a bit, and added rough of the rider escaping the punch, but turning back into the fight.

Colours are pretty bad right now, and the female needs to be brought up and emphasized as the master of the golem.

Welcome and good luck to you! :)

This is the first concept/angle I am taking on the master and servant relationship. A relationship not dictated by power or economics, rather consent.

03-22-2005, 10:48 PM
hehe... only one question:

who is master and who is servant?

The Peteboy - they switch roles, the last thing you'd want is for the game to get old. I just sounding creepy now

thanks for the welcome wussie, you have a great idea with the shadow, really think about how to play with it though, its got potential

so here is my second concept/angle, the cult. this one is playing with the idea of how some people exploit faith to exploit others. They don't realize that they are not servants to god, but servants to a lunatic.

this concept/angle is about how we are servants to our families, obligations to blood. So this pick is a man who is protecting child like a father figure. He could also be security protecting the a important child.

I think I'll do one more concept then try to figure out which one to go with

I see the golem as a creature that has been serving these forest spirits for centuries, but as a caretakeer and not an enforcer.

I think I have one last concept to try out, a more aggressive violent picture.

going to continue with the golem girl theme for a bit...until I lose focus and try another concept.

I don't know if I will continue with this affectionate relationship between the two, or if later I will make the girl treat the golem like garbage in the "classic" master servant way.

Hi Anthony,

I like your size relationship between the golem and the female character. The composition is very simple and for me it actually works and it is very easy to look at. I'm not too fund about the gesture of the female and how she's just sitting there. It lacks emotional content and mood for the piece, but overall it's a good start.

That is a pretty neat idea. NIce work so far. I will check back for more. :)

Thanks for the feedback Arc80, and I agree with you. Right now the female is more of a placeholder and in limbo....I originally had intended for her to be very dull looking, I wanted to give her an oblivious look, a look that she was so much better than the golem she hardly noticed him there...but the drawback to this approach is it does leave the image dull.

I intend to do 3 variations

1. more mean spirited female
2. more affectionate female
3. convey the oblvious master/servant relationship, which I think is the one that is the most "real"

Again appreciate the feedback

Great ideas you're tossing out. I would go with the girl and Golem, more fun (Well a close second to the bondage one... LOL!)

kewl start many great ideas. to bring a golem so close to the water is quiet deadly for it... lol.

Thanks for the support guys, and yeah, I think I am going to keep going with the golem girl thing for awhile.

Here's a new picture along those lines, the concept behind this one is of the little devil on your shoulder. Two ways I can take this picture:

1. The female eggs the golem on to kill people or

2. The female eggs the golem on to destroy a village.

What to do, what to do?

04-02-2005, 01:04 AM
the girl in the palm of the golem is the best lookin one in my opinion:d

04-02-2005, 01:36 AM
I actually really like the girl's pose on the latest one, she seems very mischievous. The story that came to mind even with just that crop of your latest update was that she was using the golem to get revenge on someone she knew... so I'd probably go with the people rather than the village.

Perhaps you could make the golem's stance more dynamic, like he's in the middle of destroying something and has paused mid-action until he hears what his fickle mistress has to say next. But don't mind my fevered imagining, I'm sure you have ideas of your own! Looking forward to seeing more!

T-lapia, I'm partial to that pic as well, but I'm going to keep concepting til something jumps out at me and says this is the one.

Zepyhri, I'm glad the idea came across, and yeah, I am definitely going to try to make the pic more alive, if I choose to go with it.

I've promised myself only one more concept pic, probably one based around the faith/cult idea I had earlier. But thats it, cause I'm neurotic this way, so I got to stop this concepting soon.

Thanks for the C and C

This concept came from the cult/faith idea. Tried to stay away from demon thing, so this is the idea of the sacrificial lamb. Worshippers that literally served up a meal for their god.

The female right now is an absolute disaster, probably going to totally rework her. Still trying to figure out if I should stick with that classic damsel in distress/sacrificial lamb pose.

Who knows if I\'ll even go with this one....gotta figure out which concept to go with soon though

This is a more action oriented version of the devil on the shoulder/golem concept.

The rider/horse, and the girl are very rough, will polish em up...if again this is the one I decide to go with.

You might need to reposition her a bit so that she doesn't look like she's going to fall off. Nice composition though.

Origninally the idea was for her to be very otherworldly, almost spidery, so she'd be like a mischevious parasite or something. But as is she just looks blah. So yeah "ChrisThatGuy", the female definitely does look precarious rather than clingy.

I don't really even know if I want to pursue this golem thing anymore, the concept is fun and all, a little action snippet, but its too literal to I'm thinking of going back to the drawing board yet again.

Can someone say neurotic
