I don't think I'll have enough time for this one but I'll try anyways.

I usually stick to the first concept I come up with...

Concept 1
Abused little girl gone mad... Her doll (in her twisted mind) gives her orders to kill her abusive father.

I'll post sketches when time allows.
Good luck everyone!

03-22-2005, 09:21 PM
Hi there Angel.......Time to go strong again......Sure hope you get the time you's always about time is'nt it?

Your concept reminds me of this old "Twilight zone episode called ...... talking tina".....With Telly Savalis........

This can be interesting, and hope to see you pull it off,I know you will.......Good luck, and I hope you beat "father time".........He's always in the way.......;) :arteest:

03-23-2005, 05:35 PM
hey virtuoso! I don't recall that TZ episode but would be cool to check it out... actually there aren't many TZ episodes I remember with the exception of a few.

I have very limited Internet connection right now and haven't been able to make rounds but hopefully soon.

03-23-2005, 09:07 PM
Hey SNoWs, finally found your thread.

03-23-2005, 10:22 PM
hi snows! yeah, i remember you from the gso. that pic you did of the betrayel was great!

loved it. and since you are soo good with modelling characters, this one should be really good for you. good luck.

03-23-2005, 10:24 PM
interesting ideas! good luck in this competition. Hope you find a way to convey this in 1 image.
Quite a strong subject to deal with,

03-27-2005, 03:56 PM
Your concepts are always great. I am going to finish this if it kills me.

Talk to you soon....Good Luck!

03-28-2005, 06:26 PM (

the sketch turned out more gruesome than I wanted. I,m going more for a creepy feeling not so gruesome.

03-28-2005, 07:06 PM
I like that... I hope you do get around to finishing this one. Should be very disturbing (I mean that as a complement)

03-29-2005, 03:10 AM
Once you get to putting in details, maybe something like a bit of a black chalkboard with some primitive drawings. or a Barbie doll with now head...

03-29-2005, 09:10 PM (

I'm really behind... started modeling.

03-29-2005, 09:41 PM
Yes.I like the look and feel of's got a good touch and style.....Keep it coming Angel.............:arteest:

03-30-2005, 02:10 AM
Its amazing how a simple ragdoll can look so creepy. I LOVE the concept. It's a nice change for you.

So she just killed her abusive Father...Is there going to be some element of him in there? Two feet? a reflection? just curious

I haven't started modeling yet so don't feel bad.

03-30-2005, 02:23 AM
this has a pretty powerful story, i agree that it is very weird how an object as simple and innocent as a ragdoll can become so twisted and scary

just a suggestion but in the image you could hav ethe girl looking sad, or closing her eyes and maybe having a tear coming down, and then below her have the ragdoll grinning or smirking slightly out of the corner of his mouth and looking up at her through the corner of his eyes.

that would be the ultimate creepines for me :) good luck:thumbsup:

03-30-2005, 02:35 AM
hey guys!

I was thinking of adding a hand close to the camera, a bit out-of-focus.
Also I was thinking to make the girl with a grin on her face looking at her doll.

I also going to make the eyes (buttons) different colors.

What do you guys think?

03-30-2005, 03:46 AM
Aaaaahh the age old addage of the possessed toy, Love IT!!!
Hi SNoWs, great work so far mate:thumbsup:
Keep it up

03-30-2005, 05:45 AM
great sketch your idea ...think the hand infront of the cam is cool but why the grin on her face??

03-30-2005, 05:46 PM
I thought a grin would make the picture creepier, like she isn't really concerned by her actions but pleased that she carried out the "doll's" orders.

This of course can be changed if it doesn't work.

03-30-2005, 05:56 PM (

I think this is it for the doll model...

03-30-2005, 09:26 PM
hey, there you are. looking good.

although it seems you're coming over to the creepy side...

03-30-2005, 09:30 PM
Very nice concept!
Very gloomy, good atmospher :)
Good luck to you!

03-30-2005, 09:37 PM
Nice model, guy... I want to see the progress of that work!:) ... and original story too... best luck man!

03-30-2005, 10:48 PM
Fun to follow Angel..........Like the theme and the road your on.....I'll be looking for more, well done,I like the idea and thus far the execution is coming real well......:arteest:

03-31-2005, 01:41 AM
Yeah, welcome to the dark side :buttrock:

That doll is lookin very Voodoo...

03-31-2005, 05:33 PM (

made a broken arm and added stitches to the neck.

03-31-2005, 06:28 PM (

I played with a light rig last night... nothing concrete but is a start.

I'll try to keep the palette of the sketch; b/w and red and see if it works, if it ends up not working I'll switch to color.

03-31-2005, 08:48 PM
ooh, i like where this is going.

03-31-2005, 09:01 PM
 looking good! I think the b&w with one color will add to the drama. Hope it works out.

04-01-2005, 06:42 PM (

started modeling the girl

04-01-2005, 06:50 PM
A very gloomy piece your sketch man!!! I think the atmosphere will be the main point of your project: the lighting, the shadows etc. I mean...Good luck!!!

04-02-2005, 05:08 AM
All hail Cloth Lord!

"Lord Cloth"...."Yes, Master"....."RIIISEEE!"

04-08-2005, 05:37 AM
Awesome mood test. I guess in some way it reminds me of the girl from Exorcist. Love your modeling and keep up the good work.

my stuff: (

04-08-2005, 06:45 AM
really nice atmosphere you've captured. Modelling is really turning out well. Keep it up

04-08-2005, 03:26 PM
Hi guys, thanks for all the nice comments! I finally got my internet connection working and will be checking all your threads tonight.

04-08-2005, 10:56 PM
I don't think I've ever seen a person model the clothing of a figure without modeling the form first; however, your modeling is very realistic and accurate (great clothing! ).
Can't wait to see more. :)

04-09-2005, 02:26 AM

He, he yeah. I should have done the body parts first, I thought the gown would be the most difficult thing to do and wanted to get it out of the way. I can always fit the gown better if I have to.;)

04-09-2005, 06:25 PM (

Started to make the UV maps. I haven't done any alpha maps to blend the texttures yet.

04-09-2005, 09:45 PM
looking good as always. loving the lighting.

how's the new UV stuff in 8.2 working out for you? the subpatch interpolation is making my life much easier.

04-11-2005, 05:52 AM (

Started to work on the textures. Need to make a pattern for the gown.

04-11-2005, 06:36 AM
wow. looks really good...really nice modeling...

04-11-2005, 07:18 AM
Good job on the UV maps there, Angel  I like the wallpaper and floor texture concepts too.

04-11-2005, 11:53 AM
captivating piece already .. lovely stuff

04-11-2005, 03:39 PM
Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Hey, Leigh, there are a few areas where there is a little stretching but should be fairly easy to correct, at least I don't have to worry about the top of the head :). I think I'll make torned wall paper on one of the walls, I'm not sure yet.

04-12-2005, 02:37 AM
Love the floor. Not crazy about the old-fashioned wall pattern. Why not a chair rail?

04-12-2005, 03:19 AM
Lots happening.......and all real well.....i'll keep my eye peeled for more Angel, nice entry in all aspects....

04-12-2005, 04:43 AM
Hey Michael, thanks, I really appreciate the nice comments; I might actually finish after all:thumbsup:

tiburonsita, I wanted to have something feminine on the walls, but I do like the chair rail idea; I think I can incorporate the two.

04-12-2005, 07:48 AM (

Textured the gown and added a base texture to the head. The arms and knife are next.

04-12-2005, 09:06 AM
nIce volumes and mood on the scene. Also cool idea! Really inspirating!

04-12-2005, 02:02 PM
Looking great! The texture worked out nice on the gown. I like how the moonlight is accenting her too. Still freaky looking at her without any limbs

04-12-2005, 02:05 PM
great ! very sensitive work.

04-12-2005, 02:19 PM
Models and textures looking good, but your lighting absolutely makes the scene!

04-12-2005, 07:50 PM
Very cool so far! Nice folds on that dress, too.

04-12-2005, 08:12 PM
Hi Snows, great work so far man, it already has a real intensity to it, dark and really eerie...

Keep it up man:thumbsup:

04-13-2005, 02:18 AM
starting to hate you....In a good way

04-13-2005, 03:12 PM (

Started making the limbs.

The foot has no finguers yet which makes it look like she has socks on.

thanks guys for all the support and feedback!

04-14-2005, 08:25 AM (

Finished modeling the arms. This is the full color version which I'm kinda starting to like better...

04-14-2005, 09:07 AM
hi snows!
i like the pose of the girl very mutch. :bounce: it gives here very mutch expression.
imo the light glow from the left side must come from the other side, because the is no light from the wall.
btw good work... :)

04-14-2005, 02:56 PM
Hi, I was discussing the same thing with a friend yesterday. It is very un-natural but it adds some mysterious quality to the girl, I'll try changing the intensity and adding a bright one on the other side and see what happens.

Thanks for the comments:thumbsup:

04-14-2005, 03:02 PM
Very nice ,....strong emotion...and difficult pose i think....can't wait to see more of this..

04-14-2005, 03:02 PM
Lovely somber composition!
Maybe some volumetric lighting for the blinds light fall slanting mistily across the room.

Real nice work!

04-14-2005, 03:38 PM (

Here is a quick update of the rim lights. Changed the intensity to the one behind her and added another in front of her in a 3/4 angle.

I'm going to blur the blinds so it looks more diffused and not so sharp.

04-14-2005, 06:34 PM
Thanks Dimitris!

Kanga, that is a good idea. I'll give it a shot and see what I come up with. A very subtle vol light would add a lot of atmosphere to the scene.

04-14-2005, 09:01 PM
i like it dude, i think your right a nice volume light would make all the difference.....

04-14-2005, 10:17 PM
I like the color version as well. :bounce::bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
YES, so many smilies are annoying but Andy loves to see them bounce :)

04-14-2005, 10:55 PM
wow, its starting to look really stunning. keep up the good work.

04-14-2005, 10:59 PM
very nice mood setting......And the's all coming along real nice Angel......Doing a very nice piece here,as expected.....keep this up Angel.....:arteest:

04-15-2005, 03:33 PM
Thanks everyone for all the comments and support!
I'm really torned between the color and the monotone version. Which one do you guys like better. I think the monotone might be a bit more dramatic but the color version is a bit more alive...

04-15-2005, 03:43 PM
I'm really torned between the color and the monotone version. Which one do you guys like better. I think the monotone might be a bit more dramatic but the color version is a bit more alive...
Why not use both? (like what Frank Miller did in Sin City)

Have the image be monotone, but use color on what you want to emphasize. (like maybe the toy doll and the blood be in color? )

04-15-2005, 04:59 PM
Well, the original idea was to do just that; like shown on the sketch. I was going to do the blood red and everything else BW with a hint of blue.

This might still work... I guess I'll have to give it a try.

04-17-2005, 11:03 PM (

I modeled the dad's hand and changed the composition a bit, by changing the camera angle a feeling of uneasyness is created and thus making the viewer feel uncomfortable.

04-17-2005, 11:19 PM
very very interesting . feels like the viewer is the dead dad and yet feels compassion for the killer girl. i think more work could be done on the hand. looks a bit odd but it could be the camera angle. great and very powerful scene

04-18-2005, 12:27 AM
I know what you mean. I think the angle is part of it but also the pose of the finguers. I'm reworking the pose right now. I also need to texture the hand.

04-18-2005, 01:46 AM
nice emotion!! will you put the window shadow on the kid?

04-18-2005, 03:44 AM
Very nice composition and posing! I second the comments made about the hand, but I'll wait to see what you do with the pose before I comment. ;) Really like the progress you're making on this. Keep up the excellent work!

04-18-2005, 05:22 AM (

Here I posed the had in a more natural way, added the doll and composited a volumetric light. Also made uv maps for the doll.

04-18-2005, 07:12 AM
Wow man your work looks amazing that doll made the scene come to life, your skin is really nice (any tips would be appreciated)

Great work I really like it :thumbsup:

04-18-2005, 03:35 PM
Thanks arlutik. Let's see, this base skin shader is all procedural, there is a base color and then a crumple procedural in a darker shade to brake it up. There are falloff gradients in the specular and luminosity channels. I also used a free Lightwave shader called TBFake skin to fake sss a bit.

Hope that helps.

04-19-2005, 08:48 AM (

Started working on the blood. The blood on the floor is temporary just getting a feel of the direction I want to take.

04-19-2005, 08:57 AM
Nice progress man! I just don't believe you are the same guy I met last weekend. The one that is always laughing of everything. Dude, you have a twisted mind!!! LOL

Cheers my friend and good luck!

04-19-2005, 01:36 PM
Hi again SNoWs...this thread gives me shivers...It's just oozing with deep dark emotion...Keep it up man it's really coming together:thumbsup:

04-19-2005, 01:48 PM
Humm. Maybe too much blood. I bit gory for me. (should I be getting life insurance :) )

There is something bothering me with the sleeve of the gown. I can't put my finger on it but it seems a bit off on the right side where it is more flat.

Also, I like the hand being blurry as it is--I don't know that if you add any more detail to it will will show.

04-19-2005, 01:54 PM
woaa! I saw first your model untexturized, and now with textures and I find it very very cool!

04-19-2005, 02:11 PM
Holy sh*t.. WOW! AMAZING WORK! really like your work..

04-19-2005, 03:03 PM
Hey guys! Thank you for all the crits and comments. The blood automatically changed the mood of the peice.

Hey Kris, it is always the least expected person! I let my twisted mind come out once in a while.... and when I laugh...

DaddyMack, darko.romanov and Maxko, thanks guys!

tiburonsita, I don't quite get what you mean, send me a pic pointing out the area you are talking about. Life insurance? nah.

04-19-2005, 04:37 PM
damn i love this!! u really captured the horror there!!... amazing work man!!... btw is she gonna have hair?... btw u can put some stuff here and there.. u know like teare paper or clooth soked in blood, ur ur great imagination.. that will add more depth to ur scene i guess... its just me tho.. but again gr8 work!!

04-19-2005, 05:25 PM
Really love this composition. Great visual style. Personally, I think there's a little too much blood, though. Not in the sense that it's too gory, but the blood seems to take away some of the strong color contrast you had in your previous shot. But, I guess if this girl went absolutely nuts on the guy she's bound to be drenched in blood... :)

whatever you go for, I'm sure it'll work. You've got a great eye for this stuff. Keep up the excellent work!

04-19-2005, 09:43 PM
hey overcontrast, thanks for the post, I'm gonna make some hair but right now I haven't really explored how, I want to give it a try in Maya and see what I come up with. I'm also gonna make some toys to put in the room including a rocking horse and some letter blocks spelling "kil dady" I don't want to "over saturate" the scene with other objects but adding a few in the right places will make it feel more like a little girl's room:thumbsup:

safe05, I forgot to add the vlight to the comp and that might be part of it. I'll look into it.

04-19-2005, 10:40 PM
love it. love it

04-19-2005, 11:59 PM
This gives me willys.Brggrrrhhhhhh.Very creepy stuff.Wonder how you bring this to the end.
I'm a big fan of horror games and movies.

04-20-2005, 01:15 AM
looking good, looking good. excellent atmosphere (and models, too, but that goes without saying).

04-20-2005, 03:06 PM (

I'm still trying to figure out the blood. I'm happy with the girl and the hand but the floor is giving me a bit of a problem. The walls I'll paint in Photoshop.

Textured the knife which probably needs to be bloodier and made the eyeballs looking at the doll.

04-20-2005, 03:21 PM
I love atmosphere! Every your step is BETTER and BETTER! Awesome work man :)

04-20-2005, 08:49 PM
wow, some really nice progress here, snows. im really starting to like the whole feel of the pic. its very creepy. you should make some of the blood still in liquid form on the ground, and then some smears from that out of view or to the body or something. looks really cool.

04-21-2005, 08:19 AM (

Here is what I have for the floor now. I really don't have the time or energy to make poly blood on the floor so texture maps will have to do. I'm actually happy how this one turned out. Time to move on to toys and hair.

04-21-2005, 11:00 AM
nice composition snows! something bug me is , I think it's look like blood is dry , maybe increase specular layer on blood layer on kid and reflection layer on the floor ( to simulate water surface reflection) will made your scene more intense!

04-21-2005, 02:44 PM
Hi monsitj, now that you mention it I forgot to so that on the gown but I did it on the floor. You can actually see some reflections near the girl, I'll play with it though and see if I can make it more wet with making it mirror like. Thanks!

04-21-2005, 02:58 PM
..trying to put the blood mask on BUMP node and Specular may help in also have a bit more volume...just an idea that might help....if u haven't done this already...:)

04-21-2005, 03:54 PM
I haven't put it in the bump. Good idea, let me give it a go:thumbsup:

04-21-2005, 04:12 PM
Hey snows, I really like your latest post. Brought back some of that wonderful contrast. Nice work!

04-21-2005, 04:24 PM
Each image is better, good luck

My M&S (

04-21-2005, 09:27 PM
Damn really really nice! You got a really scary mood going on there :applause:

04-21-2005, 09:33 PM
o.k. ... this thing is just freakin me out

but i love it

04-21-2005, 09:38 PM
Hi. Very nice picture (I don't want to see that from my eyes!) Good luck for you!

04-22-2005, 03:39 AM
thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys!

04-23-2005, 04:50 AM
This is lookin friggin awesome! No time for poly blood ? are we (your fans ) not worth it? Wuss! :buttrock:

04-23-2005, 07:25 PM (

Started to make a few toys for the room.

04-23-2005, 07:55 PM
Nice horse, I especially like the not on its neck

great work

04-24-2005, 08:29 AM (

Added the rocking horse to the scene. I also made some simple poly blood for an extra punch to the floor.

Still to do: letter blocks and hair.

04-24-2005, 11:14 AM
wow this is fantastic so evokactive..i really wanted to see someone do something liek this and im glad i found it... concept is great and the execution is awesome... definelty be back soon.

04-24-2005, 07:50 PM
This is truely disturbing.. great job... keep at it.

04-25-2005, 03:37 PM (

Made the letter blocks last night and plac ed them in the scene.

Thanks for the comments tilite and ||) |V| |^|

04-25-2005, 04:45 PM
the blocks were a great addition... it still scene still seems a lil empty (excluding all the blood... lol) what about a toy chest in the corner behind her... possibly some dolls of something ontop...

04-25-2005, 05:45 PM
• That's a Bloody picture Angel! I like it though a bit too dark in main character, maybe more light contrast will give the touch!

04-25-2005, 08:07 PM
I'm going to make her a bit brighter to see what happens, I don't think I'll be adding more stuff besides a tilted picture frame on the wall; I don't want the image to feel too cluttered and take the attention from the subject to the clutter.

Thanks for all the comments!

04-25-2005, 10:55 PM
All coming out well Angel.......Possibly a bit of a "Spotlight" on the girl, slight but still there in it's own way...focusing our attention even more so on the main allowing us to see more of the expression, and feeling you are after.....Ok...back you I too got to get back to the never ends....;) :arteest:

04-26-2005, 03:27 PM (

Here I've added a picture frame on the wall added proper shadows to the toys and adjusted the levels as well.

Blimey SNOWS, this is looking magnificent. Congrats on such a great entry. I wish i had time to do one myself but have been away for the past couple of weeks.

This one is going in my bookmarks!! I think the last pic you posted maybe slightly too bright. I know photoshop could be used afterwards, but i reckon if you could keep the highlights on the girl, but have a slightly dimmer BG it may look nicer. Only my opinion. :D

Can't wait to see the final pic. Ooh, that hand is creepy!

Thanks for the comments lardbros:thumbsup: There is going to be some major photoshop work to be done in my image, right now for time reasons I'm doing everything very quickly and rendering everything together but when time comes I'll render several passes of elements to have more control over areas such as the one you mention. I think the fog pass in this comp is probably too strong as well.

Too bad you weren't able to participate this time around but there'll be more to come. I hope to see your work in the next one.

04-26-2005, 09:49 PM
great progress, snows. it looks great.

04-26-2005, 10:05 PM
Hi snows, looks like this is really starting to flow, I like the lighting change better, maybe the key light could be a little blue...go the powers of darkness:thumbsup:

04-27-2005, 01:55 AM
I'd like to see it in b&w/red again and see the mood it creates.

04-27-2005, 05:11 AM (

Here is the B/W+1 comp. I didn't spend too much time on it tho.
Even though I also like this one I think the color version is creepier.

04-27-2005, 08:01 AM
ive just really noticed it now... the scratchs uv added to the scene are a nice touch for the floors and walls... but it doesnt work on the girl... in this render in particular it looks like she has a metal head :S

what do u think??

04-27-2005, 08:39 AM
hey nice renders here... bloody as usual... well dont really like that bw/color composition, i rather vote for the full color one, drop the saturation a little bit down, add a bit green tone maybe and that will just do fine... just a thought.... anywas ur looking good man.. keep up the gr8 works

04-27-2005, 03:21 PM
I agree, the color version does work better. The scratches was a quick fix for blood, I'll do a better job painting blood in the final render.

04-27-2005, 07:57 PM
I like the b&w w/some more work but the color version does add some "softness" to the scene.

04-28-2005, 01:03 AM
Your skills have officially moved up a notch or ten. Holy Crap .... :buttrock:

04-28-2005, 01:06 AM
"K-I-L D-A-D" love it nice touch dude on the blocks

Thanks buddy!

04-28-2005, 05:36 AM
Very dark subject, but you really nailed this one. Your ambience is very creepy. Great work yo've achieve, it almost makes me feel uncoftorbal, great work.

04-28-2005, 06:55 AM
scary and wonderfull. :scream:
i just think, that there is too mutch blood of the girls head. some blood in the face smeared by the girls hands would be enought imo... ;)
keep is up. good work... :bounce:

04-28-2005, 10:21 AM
Dude look at your progress! Congrats friend, nothing much to crit except maybe she could use some hair. Not sure what you have in mind, just dropping by to give thanks!

04-28-2005, 02:11 PM
I like the b/w version (call me a sucker for that, cause I'm a fan of b/w photography ;) ), but both versions could use a bit more contrast between the girl and the scene. The walls are too bright (in my opinion); they kinda take away from the "dark" matter of the scene.

In both versions I think the relationship between the girl and doll isn't very clear, mainly cause the doll is too "passive" (I don't mean moving or being in action, but it doesn't stand out - it's just another element of the scene, like the horse or the blocks). If the final comp was going to be the b/w, I'd keep the "blood adding color to whatever it touches", but I'd make the doll appear in full color.

Hope that helps; looking like a great piece, SNoWs. :)

04-28-2005, 03:24 PM
Hey guys! Thanks for all the C&C. I'll be attempting to do the hair in Maya and compose it in Photoshop. I kinda agree with the blood on her face, let me see what I can do about that.

Artisticvisions, if you think about it there are 2 master and servant relationships here: the girl's own struggle with herself and the abusive father and the girl, one thing in common... on both cases the girl is the servant. Maybe I can make the doll look at the girl instead of the dead dad. The girl is already looking at the doll and some eye contact might actually work.
I'll have to try it out.

05-04-2005, 02:30 AM (

hello, this has been a bit of a crazy week, flew back home from my last contract job and now I'm settled and ready to kick it up a notch. BAM!

I was working from my laptop and the colors from my desktop monitor are better so I came up with this quick color and contrast update.

I also changed the positioning of the doll's head, now there is eye contact and I think it makes the image creepier.

Always open to C&C.

05-05-2005, 05:37 PM
Nice update. Much better. It's a little hard for me to read the blocks now but my monitor is probably dark.

05-05-2005, 06:00 PM
I'll be changing the red and purple blocks to more pastel colors, that should help to make them more readable.

05-05-2005, 08:12 PM (

Hello, here is the hair composited into the scene. It is my first attempt at hair in Maya, not too bad for the first time right? ;)

I think I'm almost done and it is time to start rendering all of these layers at full res so I can start comping and painting.

05-05-2005, 10:13 PM
BRRR, it is scary....better still stay awake for a few hours althought I wanted go to the bed :)

05-06-2005, 02:23 AM
nice work so far! some thing i notice is yelow and green toy is too saturate compare to the mood of your scene , or it's just me,
good luck!

yep, I was going to change the colors to more pastel type colors, I'll post it when it is finished rendering.

05-08-2005, 01:30 AM
Ouch Angel.. this just.. wel .. Horrible!

I guess you have done a good job!. Not only do I sence the ugly scene of crime.. but I can also sence the mixed emotions going on in her head.
Te disturbed defensiveness. Alot has been depicted in the scene... Not too much to change at this point.. as you said it.. might as well call it done.

I especially liked the hair.. very well done. I am not TOO sure about the eyes being this epressed though.. will se how it is in the final render...

Good luck!

05-08-2005, 08:25 AM
Really nice progression with this. Especially like the progress you made with the blood coverage and overall contrast. The hair looks real nice too. Maybe a little too clean at the roots though (IMO). Excellent job capturing "the moment".

05-08-2005, 01:51 PM (

Hi guys, thanks for the replies!

after 18 hrs of rendering time or so I was able to get started painting some of the fine details. Here, I have the eyebrows to do but this is the actual size of that section of the render. I'll post the full "before/after" pic later on tonight.

05-08-2005, 02:40 PM
..........scary ........very scary...........good job Angel! ...................

05-08-2005, 06:15 PM (

I think I'm almost done with my entry, here it is with blood, DOF, and a slight fog.

05-09-2005, 06:30 PM (

Here it is, my final image. Since I didn't get any more feedback I just added the eyebrows and other smaller details.

05-09-2005, 06:41 PM
You did it cool :) Idea is dark, but I like it..bad..I mean it's bad that I wasn't able to give you some advice..but I think that eyes are too bright..and maybe doll should look to dead body?

05-09-2005, 07:04 PM
I guess it isn't too late, I haven't uploaded the final hi res image to the server; I haven't seen the submit final image button in the challenge page yet.

I thought the bright eyes added to the creepyness but I can take another look, as far as the doll goes... I think that is it for it.

if you are looking at the image in the thread... remember that upon submission apparently a "sharpen" filter is applied to it so the eyes might seem brighter than what they really are.

05-09-2005, 08:48 PM
this really came out nice, snows! really great work! its been an honour seeing your progress.

05-09-2005, 09:23 PM
Ur idea is so strange for me

05-09-2005, 11:40 PM
thanks Mordalles, I'm glad you enjoyed the development of this image, I know I did too:thumbsup:

Ramtin_moom, I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

anyways, this is it for me, I uploaded my final image to the server but I'm not going away, I'll be checking everyones work now and then.

05-10-2005, 12:06 AM
hey it turned out really cool man and ofcourse very creepy... nice job on the bloods... but the eyes are looking a bit odd.. mayb soften them a bit? o its just me.... good luck mate

05-10-2005, 12:11 AM
hey that's a very cool piece! not my usual cup of tea, but I can surely appreciate it anyways.

I agree with the eye-comment, that was my first impression also. if I held my finger over the eyes everything looked ok. but, then i realised that something that looks a little "off" in a picture like this, especially the eyes. can, as you said, add to the effect of creepiness.

the little doll is fantastic btw!

05-10-2005, 04:33 AM
... a great image! Not sure the "bloody" theme will find much sympathy with the judges, but I really dig this very creepy setting you pulled together. For sure with the top 3 from my point of view sofar.

Best regards...

05-10-2005, 06:40 AM
You've achieved a disturbing effect, well done! The focus is cool. There is something strange with her eyes though, they dont look real. And is her right hand a bit too thin?

05-10-2005, 08:08 AM
congrate man!! you done it ! nice composition and great rendering too! and submit final image is appear! I think this challenge has many entry , so it will be busy at deadline!

05-10-2005, 12:24 PM
Hey guys, thank you very much for all the comments!

I revisited the eyes before submitting the final to the ftp. I toned them down a bit and gave them a bit of a blue tint. I was careful not to loose that creepiness in her eyes tho. I'll post it again so you all can see it.

jarvetu, it must be an optical effect, both hands are identical. The right hand's elbow is covered slightly by the girl's dress but besides that both arms are the same.

05-10-2005, 12:28 PM (

Here is the pic with the eyes toned down a little so they don't pop as much.

05-10-2005, 06:32 PM
Great work as usual! Very dark for you as well. Great mood, lighting , textures and composition.

05-11-2005, 12:55 AM
Great job :applause: Love the perspective you used. Has winner all over it :bounce: in my opinion.

05-11-2005, 01:44 AM

Hey Snow,

I think this is great. I love the overall feel and mood of it. The blocks are a great touch, and I love the texturing on pretty much everything. My one and only crit is the girls eyes, they feel way too bright almost like they're glowing. They just don't feel natural not even crazy person natural, they look too fake for the realism of the rest of the image. Other than that, I love it.

05-12-2005, 12:21 AM
Hey Angel :)

Man, I think you did great but I have to agree about the eyes. They look too bright. I really don't know if you have to keep it opened. Maybe eyes closed can add more mistery and introspection for the girl... like she is feeling guilty or something like that.
Good job on the hair! 6 days left. I know you can make it even better using these days

Cya dude,

05-14-2005, 11:13 PM
Hey guys thanks for the responses and sorry for the late reply, I was unavailable for the last 3 days.

I had toned the eyes down a bit so they aren't that bright anymore just click on the last update image.

Kris, buddy what's up? hope you are enjoying working with those crazy kids at CFX. They are cool.

I don't want to close her eyes or dim them more because I think it'll change the feel of the image quite a bit. I don't want to convey pain or remorse for the girl's actions. She is glad she carried out the orders of her master, she feels no regret. The girl is quite mentally disturbed and I think her freaky eyes helps to bring that feeling to the viewer.

Anyway, you better have some updates, I'm headed over your thread...
BTW, you are a lousy photographer, you need to go back to school and take at least one photography class, he he You will know what I mean soon enough ;)

05-15-2005, 12:01 AM
snows ... intense stuff .. my hat is off to you for delivering such a creepy image  ... the blocks did it for me ... i think the eyes could be toned down more still, but hey ... nit-pickin

great piece

05-15-2005, 05:05 PM
Dude, your image rocks but the eyes are killing it, at first they were kind of close and it was much better.

05-16-2005, 05:14 AM
ahhhh, you guys are killing me ;)

let me take another look.

05-16-2005, 05:34 AM (

ok, you guys convinced me to take another look at the eyes. Here is the result.

How about now?

05-16-2005, 05:43 AM
Angel, you're gonna hate me, I like it but I would have a better idea if I saw it with the rest of the scene

05-16-2005, 05:47 AM (

here is the whole scene.

05-16-2005, 06:10 AM
Wow Angel me personaly I love it that way it makes her very creepy, thanx for the big view.
