03 March 2005, 06:54 PM
Jon Bennett has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Final Image: Master of Puppets - Final (

At the edge of time and space, in the lost city of bliss, the master of puppets holds his court.
all those wishing entry to the city must go before the master for judgment,
those found worthy are granted entry, those found wanting, are dealt with by the blind master and his puppet for trying to decieve the great puller of stings, who it is said that every soul has a sting of his attached.

03 March 2005, 12:38 AM (

just a fast sketch to solidify the concept and very roughly where im going with it.

03 March 2005, 08:01 AM (

a nights worth of modeling and a sketch render of my...puppet, :)

03 March 2005, 08:03 AM
afterthought...the head in the render is just a place holder..thats what im going to do next.

edit, and feet of course! cant forget those..

03 March 2005, 07:49 PM (

modeling wip and basic pose of one of the main characters.
the scene is going to be comprised of only a few characters, the master of puppets, the puppet, and maybe a few non descript types to help drive the story,"which of course im still working on, :)"

going to try to get the main characters roughed in pretty well before i start working on scene elements.

03 March 2005, 08:16 PM
Hi Jon. That's some awesome modeling you've done. Good luck. :bounce: Claireabella

03 March 2005, 09:38 PM
wow! That is what I call a big boom for a beginning:) Great start. The model is awsome!

03 March 2005, 10:51 PM
Yep, great start. How many days you spent to create this model until now? Looks like you are a very fast modeler.

03 March 2005, 11:07 PM
thanks for your comment's all, :)

"antropus" im kinda fast....i started it last night at about 7:30...course that was almost non stop till i posted it.

03 March 2005, 07:00 AM (

some more modeling and scale adjustments, and some test renders.

everything base modeled in zbrush, then more detailing in max.

also some basic test posing to how everything is going.

haveing alot of fun with the challenge so far, my basic story and premise is that the puppet master will be old and weak but in control of the powerful marionette.
will fill the basic story out of that, lol.

03 March 2005, 07:02 AM
oh god man,u are here too...omg:buttrock:waiting are crazy:buttrock:

03 March 2005, 07:02 AM (

another test render, got to start thinking about scene setup...

03 March 2005, 09:01 AM
Coool modeling. WOW!!!

03 March 2005, 01:21 PM
Wow this is breathe taking modeling man unbelievably clean and so perfect.. such a cool character you have on your hands here man

03 March 2005, 11:03 PM (

better wires of the puppet model.

03 March 2005, 11:12 PM (

Just a base texture workup,
mostly made of shading around the edges, and some decaling.
on the puppet im keeping the txturing to a minimim and using modeling for detail,s , i plan on using most of my texture overhead on the rest of the scene and the puppet master.

03 March 2005, 11:31 PM
oh boy!

Amazing model man!, such amount of detail.... wow!
keep it coming mate! :bounce:

03 March 2005, 11:42 PM
insane details you've got here ,truely great work :applause:

03 March 2005, 11:49 PM
fantastic modeling :applause: :applause::applause:

03 March 2005, 03:13 AM
Wow, really good built model. Very dynamic! Great anatomical sence!

my MASTER/&/servant XXX (

03 March 2005, 07:53 AM (

throne for the P master,
used Zspheres for this part, then again detailed it out in max.

03 March 2005, 08:00 AM (

starting to solidify the scene in my brain, as to where im going with it,
going to have to come up with some crazy type perspective, but im just rolling with it so far.
thinking either weak old man for the puppet master or maybe samurai/warrior character..

03 March 2005, 08:07 AM
Very, very, very, but very nice modeling

 wow great work you are doing there Poisen! wow!

03 March 2005, 08:14 AM

03 March 2005, 08:32 AM
nice work, nices models. take care of your workflow... you could get in a mess... first draw, then model what you drew (and probably modify your concept)

good luck in your challenge

03 March 2005, 09:41 AM
Hi Jon......Looking verty nice.Just dropping by to give you a couple of these on your efforts thus far   ...I like the style and concept....keep it going strong...all the best to you.......:)

03 March 2005, 04:06 PM
I love your modeling style!

03 March 2005, 12:13 AM (

My base background matte, done in zbrush.
am keeping it a zbr. file because it keeps all the z-depth information,
then am going to composite my scene right into the depth generated by the matte. :)

03 March 2005, 12:17 AM (

with sky added,
just the basic ground work, prob going to do alot of work one it,
matte is 4096X4096, plenty of room for detailing.

03 March 2005, 01:27 AM (

primitives that im detailing for use as scene elements

03 March 2005, 01:34 AM (

more assorted scene elements
everything is modeled in zbrush using zspheres or primitives then multimarked together.

03 March 2005, 01:38 AM (

plane primitive that ive subdivided then alpha masked then deformed,
they make decent mountain/city scapes
these im going to use to build a mointain range into the matte.

03 March 2005, 01:44 AM
absolute fantastic work from you dude... very very nice... you have great skills and great ideas dude.. i still cant get over the immense detail in your model... awesome stuff

03 March 2005, 01:50 AM (

this is where im at so far.

The Throne of the Master. "hes still out to lunch" :)

starting to fill out the scene, doing lighting tests, and general element placing.
im finalizing the masters concept, ive decided hes going to be a ming the merciless type =robes, ornamentaion and such, very old and wizened "touch crazed" blind and at the controls of his minion..

03 March 2005, 04:44 AM
this is increddible work,so much detail already, all the best ...

04 April 2005, 04:30 PM
i had some breather time, and wanted to post and say thank you, for the replys.
most of you guys are my inspiration to do this, and i just wanted to say thanks for commenting on my work, it means alot!
so good luck to you all, and thanks a ton!
now where was i? preciouse...."runs back to zbrush" :)

04 April 2005, 04:40 PM
Hey dude.. i got some time too ... :) this is great man.. throne looks crazy stuff.. you must have at least one or 2 veins poppin out of your forehead... I love it man dont stop now this stuff is crazy and one more question .. do you sleep?

04 April 2005, 05:03 PM
exquisitly twisted insight you have man, loving every pixel on these updates...keep chugging POISEN:twisted:
btw, thanks for reviewing my thread mate,i am glad you like it:thumbsup::buttrock:

04 April 2005, 05:06 PM (

starting the second character,
this is going to be the guy pulling the stings,"literally, :)"
body modeled in zbrush out of zspheres
the robes were modeled by alpha masking a line and extruding along the z, the deformed using regular push pull methods, then multimarked together.

04 April 2005, 05:12 PM
Nice modeling Poisen!! The details in the throne are amazing!:applause:

Ill follow to see the progress! See you!

04 April 2005, 05:19 PM (

test render for scale and placement.
only thing thats bothering me so far is that ive have everything setup for a full frontal final rendering, and its going to limit the 3d aspect of the final image and giving it a nice depth is going to be a challenge.

04 April 2005, 05:36 PM
those are fast and heavy modeling Jon.
zbrush are really enticing. do you use stylus pressure to sculpt them?

04 April 2005, 05:42 PM
hey Uwil
yes, all pressure sensitive scuplting.

04 April 2005, 08:45 PM

04 April 2005, 09:43 AM
come on poisen show the z power:bounce: :bounce:

04 April 2005, 12:25 AM (

started working on the masters head, this is going to be the basic look,
eyes are just place holders, ears are pretty rough but im going to cover most of them with some kind of hairstyle, head modeled from a sub-d sphere, hair mad using the alpha mask=make 3d=extrude method. tutorials for both the cloth and hair can be found at the zbrush website, use the search box

04 April 2005, 01:24 AM
hey there john.. fantastic modeling man really great stuff you have here so far.. head looks great .. Awesome stylised ears dude.. always watching  keep it up mate!! your work is fantastic

Amazing work going on here I see - it's going to be a thrill to follow

04 April 2005, 11:21 AM (

Lower poly stuctures and assorted scene elements/detailing pieces.

04 April 2005, 11:27 AM (

posted my wips backwards..
these are yet more lower poly scene elements, all in all consisting of simple

04 April 2005, 11:27 AM
Coming along in top form jon.......Nice piece assortment....And lots of character to the face....Looks like things are coming along quite nicely...I'll be watching for can count on that.....

04 April 2005, 11:33 AM (

full scene test render for scale/depth/lighting adjustments.
details,details details..
prob my longest running project to date.

04 April 2005, 11:39 AM
thanks again for everyones comment's!
its much appreciated!
now to bed, yes i do

04 April 2005, 07:48 PM
Ave Poisen,
The result is extreme, signifying you as great frescoer in the ancient Greek or Roman style...The details are great but the images seem loosing a bit their 3rd dimension, aren't they?

04 April 2005, 08:14 PM
yup extreme detail man.Maybe a not so front on camera angle,a more low/dramatic angle to enhance the masterful detail in the image and the master/servant concept?

04 April 2005, 08:17 PM
WHAT HOW ON EARTH DID I MISS THIS!!?? awesome work man!!... you are like lightning fast!!... hows is any1 compete with ur speed?... just amazing!... i really like ur mechanical modleing and the blend with organic... very unique. Keep going i'll be back for more

04 April 2005, 08:23 PM
Very cool work, gotta love the detail that you put into your work. Also great job on the vegetation.

04 April 2005, 02:07 AM
once again beautiful work.. great composition it just seems so close to perfect.. once the textures are done this will look like one really great peice... good luck my friend .. alot of hard work..

04 April 2005, 03:28 AM
Very cool work Jon. It seems you have a firm handle on Zbrush. Well done. I'll check back..

04 April 2005, 12:35 AM (

more work on the masters head model, making it older and more emaciated to better match the body also working on hair of some type, i like the fu-manchu mustach, prob a beard.

04 April 2005, 12:52 AM (

different perspective im thinking.
i agree about the full on perspective really robs it of depth. thinking seriously about this angle.
with a temple complex before the minion/puppet..
the gist of the story so far is.
" at the end of the universe in the lost city of bliss resides, "the great puller of strings" the master of puppets to which all souls have one of his stings attached, along with his feared minion the "Karakuri Ningyou" that is used to punish thos who invoke his wrath."

04 April 2005, 01:58 AM
Hi Poisen, wow, the scale and proportion of this image is mental, great looking concept and evolution so far too:thumbsup:
kepp it coming

04 April 2005, 02:02 AM
hey man once again great work from you dude.. been watching.. so yeah i do agree with this new perspective it does rob the scene of depth(the first post of composition) but the new render look alot better alot more clearer and doesnt hide your hard work into all the props etc.. but still will show your master servant relationship.. great stuff man...

04 April 2005, 02:28 AM
this new angle is incredible:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 03:08 AM
wow, great stuff you are doing, love it all, see you and

04 April 2005, 03:16 AM (

working on the masters head textures now.
want him to be ooooolllld..
started the wrinke textures, im not going to go too over board because of distance and angle most wont show up in the final anyways..

Mike Nuts
04 April 2005, 03:32 AM
This is great work! Stuff like this makes Zbrush popular. I'm subscribing, looking forward to updates.

04 April 2005, 03:57 AM
kewl and very efficient use of zbrush. Just wanted to remind you one of the 2 should be human. and your pupetmaster doesnt look too human yet.
No crits so far yet. Kewl stuff, keep it up!

04 April 2005, 07:25 AM
Jon....wonderful developement within your have a nice flare and very nice executed work.......I'll be looking for more,it's real nice to follow.............and interesting....well done.....I'll be looking for more all the time.......:arteest:

04 April 2005, 08:56 AM
You are some kind of a fast modeler aren't you ?:D
No time to breathe, just model !

I think that you should take care at your background. It's beautiful but too many details could "eat" your characters which are very detailed too. Despite that, everything's okay !:bounce:

04 April 2005, 08:58 AM
Looks amazing! lots of work and very good so far i wish u the best!

04 April 2005, 10:50 AM
Wow, looking really good... Maybe youll need to close in some around the eyes. Looks quite like they're popping out.

How did you approach making the hair ?

Keep it up man!

04 April 2005, 12:20 AM (

starting to texture his head and work on hair.
test render checking bumps/wrinkles, and developing shaders.

think its homo-sapien enough for my human element? if your wondering about his eyes the character is going to be blind..thats why he has a string attached to everything....zee?

04 April 2005, 03:03 AM
Thanks again for everyones comments!
im working pretty hard on it, and will for the next few weeks, "after that i need to go find a way to feed myself!" but i will finish it, one way or another.
so far im having alot of fun with it, and learning a bunch as i go..this is by far the largest thing ive attempted, and my first cg challenge, so i really appreciate all the support that everyone has shown, you guys," and girls :) " are the best.

the1st-angel - i will humanize him a little bit more as i go along..the character is going to be an old asian gentleman,"im not sure how to explain how he is 50 stories tall, and omnipotent" but he will have 10 fingers and 10 toes and thats human enough for me, :D j/k.

Mireneye, the hair is made making an alpha made up of a bunch of "dots" if you will, then using the make alpha 3d command, then just stretching and subdividing till you get a nice long strand of "hair" then multimarking them together and using deformation to get your general shape..
its not pretty, but it works!

04 April 2005, 03:44 AM
looks wery cool, like the style. see you and

04 April 2005, 07:45 PM (

more lower poly, stuctures for scene detailing.
most of these will just use low res tiling textures and shaders.
bigger temple complex used a few parts of my puppet for its stucture.

04 April 2005, 07:49 PM (

startinf to try and build some depth up.
im still not sure about a blue sky backdrop...might try a few different color schemes just to see.

04 April 2005, 12:39 AM
Just insane! Fantastic objects, super high amount of details, lovely components. i feel like the composition is a bit overbusy at the moment, but its early, so no further crits on it.
I love the way you create and i'll keep watching this with fun and excitement. keep it up Jon!

04 April 2005, 02:20 AM
yes youre insane:scream:

04 April 2005, 04:01 AM
that brilliant! really love the feeling you have already captured, my eyes are wandering around it looking at everything, cant wait to see more! (oh wait yeah i can im still looking at all the cool stuff you've pumped into this one frame =D )

04 April 2005, 05:25 AM
 woow that's all superbly great model. Lots of detail and good character design:thumbsup:

I'm waiting to see more.god luck.

04 April 2005, 04:30 PM (

ive thought it over and im going to rework the master.
im going for a more dynamic pose of the master rather than just arms out stretched, that and ive remodeled his head for a open mouth and some teeth, to give him more expressions.

04 April 2005, 04:33 PM

very nice modelling in here... keep the good work up

04 April 2005, 04:34 PM
O hohohohohohohoho......:eek::scream::buttrock::argh::banghead:

04 April 2005, 06:06 PM
That is some crazy detail! Great looking model, I especially like the swords and armour. My only suggestion would be to increase the size of the guy's arms and neck, it just seems like they could be thicker (in relation to the size of his torso). The hands are also looking a little flat. Anyway, it's looking really cool, keep up the good work. Alexi.

04 April 2005, 06:14 PM
Looks nice but I think the hands are too small. But the rest looks cool. Good luck

04 April 2005, 07:32 PM
maybe his hands a re just a bit flat... in the main volume. great redesign, like it a lot! keep it up mate!

04 April 2005, 08:02 PM
:eek:these are realy good jobs jon!
you are too damn fast at modeling..and realy good models you have made.....the details on the last one is realy awesome.....:applause:ands i do agree with the1st_angel about the hands....

kep it up man..i have my eyes on you:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 08:11 PM
Nice "re-design" Jon.........the details and intensity of this guy are really standing out.....very well done and a unique creation......Nice move on the re-design......Coming along very nicely here....keep it up......:arteest:

04 April 2005, 08:46 PM
Deadly deadly demon...Great reworking Poisen, major improvement on an already mental model...The whole thread is killer:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 06:20 AM
Your work is very inspirational Poisen... The master looks great and the composition looks even better...:buttrock:

04 April 2005, 07:24 AM
Wow, they both look!

niiiiiice work,

jimmy (

04 April 2005, 05:02 PM
Like the enviroment stuff. Very detailed. And I agree with the1st_angel, the hands are bit flat. Plus the masters neck is too thick at it's base and too thin at head's base. All the rest is great.

My tread

04 April 2005, 07:31 PM
Almost perfect :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: .
I agrre with the critics.

04 April 2005, 07:49 PM
amazing modeling skills Poisen and the master is looking most evil
where are u gonna render? Z or max?
keep it up dude:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 05:15 AM (

Doing some trees rough out the throne area a little bit. just did the trunk and one "limb" multimarked the limb together a few times to build up basic branch structure, then multimark a few of those together to get decent back ground trees..

04 April 2005, 05:20 AM (

another lighting test, and am starting to fill in the for groun with more alpha masked and deformed plane primitives.

04 April 2005, 05:33 AM
wow, thats magic.

04 April 2005, 05:35 AM
Hi Jon....just dropping off two of these for your latest efforts.....  .....real nice to folow, and all very well done.......:arteest:

04 April 2005, 05:44 AM (

full scene render test with master and servant roughly in place.
testing for scale and perspective, hoping everything will go and line up as im seeing it in my mind.
that and looking for shading gremlins and artifacting..rendering times are getting pretty high, around 3 hours for this test.

04 April 2005, 05:44 AM
:applause: very well done john.. pure arteest, lighting looks good ..fantastic work from you as always!!

04 April 2005, 06:07 AM
HI John....reallly coming together....lotsdone,and done well.....Keep it coming....very nice to follow the developement.....:arteest:

04 April 2005, 10:09 AM
Brilliant work! I love how you're using the 3d medium as fluidly as paint, & you're adding detail freely & easily. If this is rendered out of zbrush, could you add an occlusion/dirtmap effect? That might help further define the forms since it's getting quite crowded now.

04 April 2005, 06:44 PM
thanks guys!
i know its getting rather crowded, but hopefull with the right lighting solution anf fog depth it will pop out as pretty evenly balanced..hopefully, :)

'Mb i was going to max for the final but the poly count and the way ive done alot of the work into the matte would require alot of could be done tho, but making allthe displacment maps and such would be a monumental undertaking. i am going to go with a GI type lighting with zbrush's cavity shader,"dirt shader" and that will refine out the shapes hoping anyways, lol

thanks again everyone, ill try to keep the updates comming.

04 April 2005, 07:07 PM
Hi there, Interesting piece you are working on. I just have a couple of comments that you might already be aware of, anyways...

I think it is way too busy, details are great to have but I couldn't focus on anything. The characters are almost at the same visual level as the bottom building, it isn't quite clear what's going on. The fog helps to push back the mountain . Maybe some DOF or darkening some areas will help define the background and foreground elements.

04 April 2005, 08:31 PM
Hi Poisen, stunningly epic proprtions man!
Keep a tweekin:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 08:53 PM
looking great dude, keep it up

04 April 2005, 03:21 AM (

heres another small update, starting to work on a pose for the master, that and working on background fading.

im having some luck baking different fog layers for depth and fading the background, i want the details visable if your looking, but very soft.. and trying to give the master a sense of motion. and am still not solid on a color scheme,,want it to be a nice balance of light and dark..if i can find such a thing, lol

04 April 2005, 03:38 AM
Wow man!! how many details!!! you-re crazy!! hahaha
You have a unique style man! Very good!!
Keep it up mate!!! Im watching

04 April 2005, 03:50 AM
This is massive detail. Nice modeling:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 03:55 AM
:applause: this is one of my fav thread every post you produce every render is just beautiful to the cg eye.. your work is 200% commendable.. great stuff

04 April 2005, 06:15 AM
insane proportions and scale and detail, good luck :banghead::wip:

04 April 2005, 07:22 AM
Ohh - this is coming on just great! Really impressive.

I think the gold/green colors you got could work very well, perhaps if you darkened the background in the left area a bit it could give some better sense of depth? Maybe blurring it, or reduce contrast could help.
Your modeling skills are insane - this piece looks very promising

04 April 2005, 08:01 AM (

posed the hands and and am still thinking about the puppet, hes going to get a face lift of some kind, the head and sword are just place holder elements, until i figure out where im going with the puppet, right now hes a little "too" mechanised.
im thinking about reworking the torso into somthing a little more organic and flowing...

04 April 2005, 08:10 AM
thanks for the comments guys!
maybe im overkilling it, but its fun trying different things, and still try and keep a coherent image.
another thing that keeps me pecking away at it is thats its so damn big, 4096 x 4096 and im not used to working on a canvas that big, i can almost get lost in it! lol

04 April 2005, 09:12 AM
heye poisen nice work mate!! nice details in your scene compliments!!

04 April 2005, 10:01 AM
Wow now that's what I call detail work
maybe just some crit on fog, it looks a bit unatural in my opinion...
Good luck

04 April 2005, 10:27 AM
I am extremely impressed by the details of your realization.
Good luck

04 April 2005, 10:35 AM
Hi there,I like your work.I checked this before but had no time responding..I wondwer why didn't you post some wip's.Anyway keep it..

04 April 2005, 01:43 AM (

type one of the swords the servant is going to br holding, will prob do another sword or weapon type for the other group of arms.
nurb modeled the blade out in rhino, then exported and deformed in zbrush, then used zbrush to model the grip, guard and pommel then textured and multimarked together.

04 April 2005, 01:57 AM
thanks for all the kind comments!

crying horn- yeah the fog and sky is giving me trouble, cant seem to find a happy medium.

A I R , im almost scared to post all my wips, :) i have about 4 gig of wip data at every step od development, if you want to see anything in particular let me know and ill post it.

i sure appreciate everyones crits and comments they are keeping me going, i know its a busy composition so far but im going to try to pull it all together and smooth it out for the final.
and hey this is my first cg talk challenge, im trying to put a good foot forward!

if anyone has any questions or want to know how i did any particular thing ask away! thats half the fun, learning new stuff, :)
ive been looking around and there are all kinds of great work going on, and lots of different approaches to things, its all been worth it so far just for the learning experience!

best regards all!

started to finish detailing out the puppet.

am trying to get away from the robot look, i want it to look like a construct, but not really "robot",
so i reworked the torso to look more organic and armour clad "i hope" and filled out his extremeties with assorted spikes, cladding and armour type details.
still havent decided on his head , its either helmet spectre type adornment, or more organic and beast like. the beast is winning the vote so far.

04 April 2005, 11:58 AM (

pose test, trying different ones, i want him prostrate before the master to enhance the master servant aspect, and even though its a construct i kind of would like to impart a "forced" kind of servitude to its posture.

04 April 2005, 02:15 PM
Hi Poisen,

This is realy a nice new servantbody!

Keep it up the good work and keep it simple.

04 April 2005, 02:22 PM
Ahh - some really nice updates! The pose looks quite good, perhaps you could arch his back backwards even further, as looking up to find out whatever that is that controls him?
This is coming on really well

04 April 2005, 04:07 PM
oh sigh, insane insane! Your modeling and polyrocking is plutonium on the coresplit. boom wow. love the compotest 106, maybe the foreground fogg is a bit to strongly structured what distracts a bit cuz your creation is rich in details shapes and elements. so your compo maybe gets a bit overbusy. i suggest to hold fogeffects and skydome silent to not make the whole work appear "noisy"... of course thats just me :)
the sword is so awesome, could i have to for hanging them over my fireplace? i promise, i just will hold them in honor and only use them on very special ocasions, like on clientvisits caused by their unwill to pay bills :p
the pose so far looks good, i'd maybe turn the upper part of the torso a bit (swordhand backwards) and bring one hand forward to point a target what gives him the feeling to next strike something down... just maybe. :)
keep on rocking my friend! love your progress!

04 April 2005, 04:11 PM
Awesome update!! Goin nice & smooth. Will be interesting to see you in action modeling stuffs.. sure is good & fast

04 April 2005, 10:39 AM
Nice modelling man. The character is superb. I like the sword also ... nice design;)

Well good luck...

Good luck Jon:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 03:39 AM
man id have to say that this latest pose hits it the best. I think this should be the final pose.

well done awsum zbrushing skills here:thumbsup:

can't wait to see the Master:buttrock:

04 April 2005, 04:00 AM
hey,very nice model! i LOVED the details!

04 April 2005, 12:54 PM (

starting to work on the servant's head.
i think this is going to be the overall shape, i know it resembles the master somewhat and isnt robotic, but im going to armour him up a little and detail him out. but this is the basic shape that im going with.also his basic texturing, going to use a combination of light tex maps and shaders.
and am giving thought to having the servant in a defiant type posture, maybe facing the master and hacking at his chains,, will try it in a composition to see how it goes.

04 April 2005, 01:06 PM
oh my god !!! this thread is so COOL !!! :scream:

great job poisen !!! keep it up !

04 April 2005, 05:04 PM (

test render to see how the new head would look on the servant, its going to have some kind of head gear and adornment, just trying to get a feel for how im going to put it all together, its going to be pretty busy, but im going to layer everything in and try to get the most depth i can out of it. also working out a color scheme.

04 April 2005, 05:08 PM
Yes! youre insane! I have no doubt now! hahaha

man, how many details! I could spend an hour lookin at this picture!
Congrats my friend!!! Its becoming awesome!

04 April 2005, 05:23 PM
This is looking cool Jon, like and old reinassance paint, I like it's comic book feeling, looking forward!

05 May 2005, 11:14 AM

05 May 2005, 07:21 PM

05 May 2005, 05:39 AM

05 May 2005, 05:49 AM

05 May 2005, 12:37 AM

Thanks for all the comments everyone!, im back for one last mad dash!

had a bunch of stuff pop up on me, but ive got around 24 hours to put this together, :)
i have everything modeled already just need to composite, fog and light adjustments, and one long render....

and again thanks for everyone kind comments advise and support.
time to wrap this one up!,

go go go, lol

05 May 2005, 12:41 AM (

starting my final composite, i was goinf to try a few other things but time is short.

pretty happy with it over all, its busy, but most of my stuff is so i can live with that.

will prob composite it all in, and keep my materials live for final adjustment's, do a final final render for shadows, then bake it with a few fog layers to lock it all together.
at least thats the theory :)

05 May 2005, 12:50 AM
wicked sick details....hurry!

05 May 2005, 02:50 AM (

trying different combinations of fog layers and depth settings, and still tring to final my color scheme.
trying to balance out the scene,
im kind of liking the green, but thats subject to change.
anyone have any thoughts?

05 May 2005, 03:12 AM
hmm, i dont like the green very much:shrug:,depth is good:)

05 May 2005, 03:53 AM (

did this the other day and thought it looked pretty psycho, and it has more of the look i was going for.
the other 2 were making it too human in apperance and clashing with the body.

05 May 2005, 02:15 PM
Hi jon

excellent work, I am surprised, are many details in these image and
many elements, but still asi I see it balanced and it does not bother
the spectator.
This all modeled or there is some Mate painting?

much luck and congratulations by your great work.:applause:

05 May 2005, 02:39 PM
Hi Jon, great to see you're back at it!

The greeen is kinda freaky I think, the good thing is that it gives a much better focus for the foreground, the less good is that it's very green... perhaps you could try desaturate it a bit so it doesn't risk popping out in the middle top area? I still think green is an excellent choice here - keep tweaking!

Puppet head is really cool :)

05 May 2005, 02:45 PM
WOW WOW  .... this is increddible work :buttrock: ... i like the detail ...the modeling ... every thing goodlux

05 May 2005, 02:57 PM
. . . . .

. . . S. . S . . SWEET!

The detail is . . .

You definitely stand a chance of winning this thing!
Keep it up man...

05 May 2005, 02:44 AM (

doing the chains for the puppet and still tweaking the render and doing general detailing.
its a busy mess right now, but i hope to tune the color palette and fog fading to smooth it all out in the final..hopefully,:)

05 May 2005, 02:54 AM

its comming along, but i should have started finishing up a week ago!

thanks for everyones comments and suggestions,

pierre_bixquert-- its all modeled geometry, then dropped to a 2.5d composite,
very light color correction painting in a few areas so far, thats it.

wish i could have done the entire thing in greyscale, :scream:

05 May 2005, 03:04 AM
Hey Jon,
You are doing a good job here, intricate modeling and lots to look at:thumbsup: . Are you thinking of any shadows in the foreground? Just a thought.
Good luck finishing up

05 May 2005, 03:20 AM
Hey mmoir!

yeah, the final will be fully shadowed, these are just test renders, about 1-2 minutes without shadows, around 5 hours with them on, ;)
going to use a GI type shading in the final.

05 May 2005, 08:41 AM
Jon, I'm stuned by the amount of detailed you put in there, wow great composition, great work.

05 May 2005, 08:43 AM
getting there now Jon....push it to the will be well worth it.......Really a nice overall design and well executed scene.....I wish you the best on finishing as planned.......All the best to you....:arteest:

05 May 2005, 05:29 AM

At the edge of time and space, in the lost city of bliss, the master of puppets holds his court.
all those wishing entry to the city must go before the master for judgment,
those found worthy are granted entry, those found wanting, are dealt with by the blind master and his puppet for trying to decieve the great puller of strings, who it is said that every soul has a string of his attached.

I liked all the modeling work you did but you have to improve your lighting skills. With the right lighting your image can be 200% better. Good work anyway. Good luck.
