Latest Update: Coloring WIP: Coloring WIP A (

Ok, so I'm down to about 22 hours and I have a 3 hour class tomorrow afternoon. But then this is also something my teacher wants me to finish. So I have about 10 hours left.

Well, here's my first color WIP. Haha. I've only spent about 2 hours on the coloring so far, and it's already one of my most well-lit scenes. I guess that's not saying much, though. I'll be looking up some reference for the ruined architecture. Wish me luck! *YAWN*

03 March 2005, 06:06 PM
Hey Robin! Good to see you in this challenge! You gotta finish it this time though! I'm counting on you to finish  It'll be great :bounce:

03 March 2005, 07:31 AM (

Just a quick idea. Not really sure how I want to handle this challenge. I'm thinking mostly about the "control" between a master and servant. I don't think I'll be using those two terms literally.

03 March 2005, 09:36 AM
hey sir. diggin' on the colors a lot, and the way you handled the shoulder area on the waiter is ace. don't get too carried away yet tho meng, gotta have a solid composition first. ;P

oh, and you're a demigod and a wonder-puppet. DANCE PUPPET DANCE.

03 March 2005, 10:34 PM
Guess I got carried away with that sketch. Bah. I'll hold onto the idea, but I probably won't use the image.

03 March 2005, 10:36 PM
that looks great!

03 March 2005, 11:44 PM (

If Jason's not gonna do something cute, I might as well try!!

This is an idea I kind of like. Man and machine. I'm afraid that there might be a LOT of people doing this, though. :(

03 March 2005, 12:09 AM
Is that an evil bunny driving the machine?

The machine idea is cool. I was thinking about that too, but I decided against it since my last two contest pieces were sci-fi...

Right now, the piece is too symetrical. I'm sure you can come up with a cool composition for you killer bunny robot :bounce:

03 March 2005, 05:54 PM

All my encouragement for new challenge Good luck

03 March 2005, 10:49 AM (

I'm starting to grow on the bunny idea. It's been a while since I've done something cute and funny. But then again, I've seen a lot of bunnies with red eyes floating around the art community lately. Let me know what you guys think.

03 March 2005, 11:27 AM (

Just noticed you needed a human character. Ok, so then here's my human character. I'm imagining he's being controlled by the bunnies as their human host and they're using him to control the bunny robots so that they can invade planet Earth.

So to sum up..
-Humans are servants to bunnies.
-(Normal) Humans are servants to bunny robots.
-Bunny Robots are servants to Humans (who are under Bunny control)

03 March 2005, 01:46 PM
Good concept with the bunny, good luck:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 04:56 AM
And you call MINE original???!!!

I am sure you are about the only person who has come up with something like this in the decade.

Some of your presketches are literally fantastic. I especially liked the Rabbit and Robbit.
Everything is very promsing. I would like to see how things turn out.

03 March 2005, 06:16 AM
hahaha. you rock man. great concept, also digging the green palette. "if carrots got you drunk, rabbits would be f-ed up!"

03 March 2005, 12:43 PM
Seriously though I really liked your 'Mean Lady' concept. You have a very nice style going in that one.

Thanx for commenting on my M & S.

lol, this is just wrong! but i can't talk.

lovely,keep at it!

03 March 2005, 08:04 PM
Psycho Bunny!!! SO COOL. Love the cute little white bunny with the red eyes (been seen already, but still hilarious). How about some sort of psycho-nazi-bunny?
-Cute bunny, hiddeous moustache, oppressed masses of people obeying. -
Just a thought. Gonna keep an eye on this thread.

03 March 2005, 10:00 PM
Ha! Nice one. I like your summary explanation about bunny-mastery.
03 March 2005, 10:03 PM
Check the movie Donnie Darko for a Pshyco Bunnie!

03 March 2005, 07:49 PM
Jason- Don't worry, it was just a rough concept sketch. I'll make sure my final comp is more dynamic-ish.

Tranchefeux- Merci, beaucoup! Et toi :p (my french sucks!)

MDN67- Thank you, good sir!

BlackDidThis- Hahah. Thanks, man. I don't know HOW original my concept is, but I want it to be as original as possible. So I'll probably pushing the wackiness as far as I can!

Ed- I was I could get drunk off carrots. I guess I'll just have to settle with beet juice.

Tariq- Thanks! I think I'm going to be ditching the Mean Lady concept since there's so many people doing the same type of concept. I'd rather stand out than blend in.

NOOB!- Wrong=right, right? :p

GaeasHerald- Hahaha. i love the suggestions, but my intention was to make the bunnies just bunnies/or bunny-ish. Their evil minds have sinister human-like intentions, but they don't want to be nazi-ish.

Baron Impossible- Thanks! The summaty was fun to write up! :D I've never seen a movie but I did end up doing an art jam where we painted Donnie Darko. I couldn't find any really good reference and all I knew was that he was a scary man-bunny.

Phew! Ok, now. I knew from the first time that I drew the bunny leader that the design resembled someone else's bunny. I finally came to realize that my design closely resembles NivBed/Justin Cherry's bunnies ( The last thing I'd want to do is have someone think I ripped off Sir NivBed's designs. I respect that man!!

So now I'm thinking I have two options
-a. Create designs for bunnies that are more original.

-b. Create designs for a different type of animal.

It may just be me, but I've seen a lot of bunnies in paintings during the past few years. Maybe they're the "in" thing. If I do choose to use another animal, I'd still be applying the same story/formula. Man in raccoon/penguin/ostrich/wolf/_____ suit guiding a whole calvary of furry things against the human race with _____-ROBOTS!!

I guess I'll be taking the sketchbook to church today.

Let me know what you guys thing!

03 March 2005, 08:06 PM
Dodos maybe? A dodo-bunny aliance perhaps. Dodos are the brains of the organization and bunnies put the muscle power (hahaha). That would be cool.

03 March 2005, 08:14 AM (

I spent a tiny bit of time tonight trying to re-invent the bunny design for the first race of bunnies. I also tried doing a quick sketch of the robot-bunny. I was watching Star Wars: Episode II while drawing, so I guess there\'s a touch of Doug Chiang somewhere there. :p

03 March 2005, 08:29 AM
original ideas for sure, one of the most original I have seen in this contest. Keep with it.

03 March 2005, 10:02 AM (

LEFT IMAGE: A profile based on the previously posted Bunny bo. This one reveals that there are some organic aspects to the robot's "anatomy".

RIGHT IMAGE: A more streamlined design.

I'm wondering if the robot bunnies are basing their invasion on intention of destroying the human race or making them their slaves.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone's noticed this or not, but the bunny robots do have wi-fi antennas attached to their heads. They transfer communications between all wi-fi products and with the other bunnies and humans under bunny-control. :D

03 March 2005, 10:34 AM
Looking good! your concept is great. I love the little bunny race #1 picture!

03 March 2005, 11:32 AM
Nice colors and sketches man!!!That bunnies are really cool, specialy like the right one on the last image!!!Good luck!!!

03 March 2005, 08:08 PM
I like your design for the bunny race. The bunny robot looks like a modified AT-AT from Star Wars :)

03 March 2005, 06:53 AM (

So during class today, I doodled some bunnies and I'm pretty happy with these designs. Each bunny will represent a bunny race. These ARE NOT Earth bunnies!! Intergalactical bunnies, people!

The Intergalactical group of bunnies have formed together in order to take control of our planet. They have seized control of a vast amount of the human race by cutesifying them to the point where they are under the belief that humans are the true enemy.

To prevent these particular humans from kiling each other, the Intergalactical bunnies have created special suits that make them look like bunnies. (Still working on the design for the mask/headpiece).

The Carrot gun is used as the man=-bunnies' primary weapon.

03 March 2005, 07:31 AM
Hahaha... now i see what you mean by 'similar to mine but different'... little evil killer bunnies!!?

I like the one top left in the last sketch... but the idea of lots of different bunnies is fun.

Wonder what's next...? :)

03 March 2005, 02:06 AM
Funny I am not getting an update to a variaty of entries I had subscirbed to.. including yours.

It's going stranger than it was when you had started out!!!

Hey is there a group of humans that realised the activity of the Intergalactical bunnies, and sort of formed a group for resistance. but they never really managed to convince anyone about their findings?

Looking good;

03 March 2005, 07:25 PM
Duddlebug- Thanks! I guess the only link we really have are our woodland creatures. :-p Me and Jason (Evil Gerbil) were talking about your stuff the other day while I was drawing the bunny races.

BlackDidThis- Y'know..if the subscription thing isn't working for you, you can always bookmark this thread or make it your start page Yes, it is a lot stranger than my first few sketches. I don't think I'm going to make it any stranger. Haha. Resistance group, eh? I'll take it into consideration.

Right now I'm taking a break from this challenge. I have to help out with wrapping up production on the Matchstick Monsters ( book (go pre order one!! 5$!!) and I've got a slew of school work to finish up. Ugh. I wish I could spend more hours on this project.

1. Find a design for bunny-robots.
2. Create a final design for bunny costume (for humans).
3. Create compositions! Bunny Bounce!

03 March 2005, 11:58 PM
omg i cant beleive I never heard of you before your work is really sweet. I personaly perfer the first sketch you made with the green background of the women. But that giant bunny robot idea is pretty funny/cool all at the same time too LOL. I went to yourwebsite and I saw some of your work in your gallery! I fell in love with it! Especially your natural medium stuff! Alot of expression in your work! I hope you this challenge is as cool as the stuff I saw on your website gallery! Goodluck!

04 April 2005, 12:06 PM

All my encouragement for your project, good luck.

04 April 2005, 08:08 AM (

Irrelevant to what my whole Bunny story, but I thought I'd at least give another idea a chance. I most definetely won't be using this concept, as it seems to be used by many others. Oh well, it was fun doodling it!

04 April 2005, 05:01 PM (

I need to get these designs finished! Anyways, here's the latest designs. the one on the top is just a frontal version of the design on the bottom right.

BOTTOM LEFT: A more "Iron-Giant meets the robots from the painting from last night" mix. Flame throwers included. I'm thinking these robots would be about 100 feet tall. When the bunny-humans want to pilot these guys, they'll have to lie the robots down on their backs. :-p

BOTTOM RIGHT: This one is kind of an homage to that robot from robo-cop and metal gear ray. The top half of the head slides back so that the pilot can board the robot. It's sort of a frog and bunny put together, so I can imagine it hopping up really really really high. I haven't added any weapons to this guy, but a I'm sure I can toss in a flame thrower and some rocket launchers.

So which do you think is the more superior design?

Just so that you guys can understand my vision for these robot-bunnies a little bit better, I'm trying to imagine a fleet of robot-bunnies leaping high into the sky while launching missiles as up to the point where they're descending onto the earth/stomping opposing forces, creating a shattered surface, and going off and doing it again and again. I call it a BUNNY-MISSILE-STOMP.

04 April 2005, 08:29 PM
Cool Stuff!
I like your design. It's so different.
I will keep my eyes on yours.
Keep it up!

04 April 2005, 09:14 PM
Dammit! I love every concept you've come up with...

Robot rabbits - you are a genius sir!

04 April 2005, 08:25 PM
fan of your work! although, iv yet to see a better bunny robot. keep on sketchin! :D

04 April 2005, 08:17 PM (

i scanned in my arm because i drew some cool stuff during a class lecture. there\'s actually some good ideas , but it might be hard to see. i\'m weird. i am silly. :p

04 April 2005, 10:56 PM
I really dig the mood of "Protector" sketch

You've been subscribed...

04 April 2005, 05:24 PM
Awesome arm sketches!

Just a thought -- it would be really cool i think to have the bunny-people have those drawings carved/tatooed/doodled on themselves to make them look all dedicated and stuff.
Great concept designs!

04 April 2005, 04:52 AM
spacesnail- Thanks! I really liked doing the Protector sketch, as well. Most of my friends who have seen the image insisted that I do that concept instead. And as much as I'd love to work on it (I will, eventually), I reminded myself that I haven't really ever done an illustration with humor. I really wanted to try something different. But I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with the Bunny concept. :)

Octothreat- Y'know, I just came back from the Alternative Press Expo, and during lunch, I started drawing on my arm some more with a Sharpe marker. It turned out looking really neat and I was thinking that maybe I'll do some arm tattoos at Comic-Con this year! That'd be rad. Thanks for the compliments, but I don't think I'm going to be scanning in any more bunny concepts on my arms (unless it's super awesome!). :p

Anywho. So I haven't really gotten a chance to work out a composition for my image, yet. Mostly because of the book that me and the rest of Matchstick Monsters just pushed out. We're still trying to do some miscellaneous stuff, so we should be done with that shortly. I do have some compositions in mind and I am very anxious to get to the coloring process!

But yeah. I just wanted to update you guys, since I've entered the past 2 challenges and I had always given up. I shall be persistent :banghead:

04 April 2005, 07:37 AM
your bunny concept is cool:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
wait to see moore
good luck

my mother and servant

04 April 2005, 02:00 AM (

Am I the only person still on my concept sketch milestone? :-p

Anywho, this is just a quick color job on a comp I roughed out during class. Please excuse the crappiness.

So yeah, we have...

-the colorful bunnies mounted on the bunny robots.

-Bunny robots are shooting flames in order to surround the remaining humans.

-There are bunny-men in bunny-suits abusing the humans (well, they will be).

-And of course, the bunny leader who is in his own telekinetic bubble and is telepathically projecting his image alerting the humans with the following message "We have taken over your planet. Sorry".

04 April 2005, 09:38 PM
I've recently discovered Cerebus (by Dave Sim) : your work seems seems twisted in the same way He He Don't forget to show only one normal human Mmmmh?
Keep going on

04 April 2005, 05:59 AM
pokemon styles!

man that i have not seen in a few years.

05 May 2005, 01:37 AM (

It's ben quite a long time for me, but I'll be finishing this up on time. I just hope it'll come out nicely. This image is a crude representation on what I'm aiming for. I've changed some of the robot bunny's "anatomy" and I've altered the design of the human bunny-slaves. It's vague but I've got a lot more that I'll be adding. Stay tuned!

05 May 2005, 10:29 PM (

Sorry about the sloppiness. It'll definetely look a lot better than this. Less than 72 hours left!

05 May 2005, 08:51 AM (

Ok, so I'm down to about 22 hours and I have a 3 hour class tomorrow afternoon. But then this is also something my teacher wants me to finish. So I have about 10 hours left.

Well, here's my first color WIP. Haha. I've only spent about 2 hours on the coloring so far, and it's already one of my most well-lit scenes. I guess that's not saying much, though. I'll be looking up some reference for the ruined architecture. Wish me luck! *YAWN*

05 May 2005, 01:19 AM
I just wanted to let the CGTalk Community know that I don't think I am going to be able to finish this challenge in time. I guess it was inevitable, seeing how I started painting only two nights ago and I've had classes in between those two days.

I really don't want to rush myself with this painting, and seeing as how I'd only have less that 11 hours to finish this, I would see that as rushing myself. Things might have been different if this wasn't finals week! (DAMNIT!) But all my finals are done now, so I think I'll just sit back and relax.

Good luck to everyone in completing your submissions!

05 May 2005, 06:03 PM
I had actually come here in hopes that you may have made it through and that I just missed out on your name in the final images list.

It is a bumber.. your definately original concept would have had been a great find to see inbetween the images that lack such 'oddness' in them. And especially since you were finally getting to a complete image.

There is always a next time. I wish you the best of luck on what ever you tend to mark your next row of imagination on to !
