Charles Wardlaw has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Latest Update: Modeling: a real milestone (

Yay! Moving along again! This is a terrible example of the progress I've made. I put bones into the model and posed her a bit, but I need to play with it to get the pose right. I also need to cheat the mirror and her torso out towards the camera more while, somehow, at the same time increasing the visibility of the her in the mirror.

Concept image, based off a pose by the inimitable Harriet S. Long ( (An it please thee, she doth have lips wrought of pure perfection.) This will, of course, be turned into an image involving fairies and a yellow-brick road.

Music: Pearl Jam, "I Got ID"

... and then there were lips... four hours later.

Music: Scissor Sisters, "Tits on the Radio"

I'm thinking the final title will be, "Slave to My Own Ego."

Then again, "David Bowie Overdrive" comes in close second. And the answer to your question is a resounding yes.

03 March 2005, 06:07 PM
that sketch is so cool! I like the whole idea
Would be cool if the reflection was slightly different, like with a different emotion....

03 March 2005, 01:16 AM
That's the intent. The one on the left is the master (mistress) so she's gonna be all happy and sly and coy, and the one inside the mirror is gonna be scared witless. That's why her eyes are bigger in the sketch, but I'm not the best hand-drawing artist so I guess the emotions didn't come through. ^-^;;

03 March 2005, 12:39 AM
Head's nearly finished, although I may need to go back and redo the eyelids. Also the corners of the mouth are ... clowny. But I'm very happy with how the lips turned out. I think I should also do a better job of continuing the pretty good mouth loops from the top lip to around the bottom lip.

Off north for four days on vacation. Hope everyone's working hard in my absence.

Music: julie london, "why don't you do right"

03 March 2005, 10:46 PM
I'll be watching how you progress. And comment as well, when time comes. Hope you don't think it is too thick coming from me... =)
Some day I will attend some challenge here as well. But it's still a long way away.

03 March 2005, 02:43 PM
i like poeple who lick things....:)

Good luck!!

03 March 2005, 12:41 AM (

I went back to work on the head and now adding detail is becoming a pain... The hand looks good, as does the breast, though, and once I get the detail I want in the head I'll be able to shore up the model, duplicate, flip, and bone for posing.

You can't see the butt here, but it's fabulous.

music: hole, "violet"

03 March 2005, 03:39 PM (

A quick GI render. I *love* how GI makes certain areas look all full and other areas totally flat when there's no detail around your model and no lights.

There are some areas of oddity (the head shape's a little off, particularly around the chin), but it's a good start, I think. Up next: teeth!

music: scout niblett, "your beat kicks back like death"

03 March 2005, 10:52 PM
Nice work Cloud. And that sketch is cool, very good idea. Lookin forward to seing it progress mate. [(^u^)]

03 March 2005, 03:18 PM (

Teeth only took this morning and this evening! Yay!

Yes, she has vampirey fangs. Yes, I'm okay with that. *I* am enlightened.

music: roni size, "center of the storm"

03 March 2005, 03:24 AM
where you listening to center of the storm or me?

looking good man...looking forward to how you try to pull off the mirror..

have fun!!

oh and dont forget her collar bone!!

03 March 2005, 04:21 PM (

Everything's together now, with a prehensile tongue. This test was done with a mix of bones and moving of vertices, but I think I'll have to rethink the posing technique I've put together for the actual pose. May also have to rebuild the sides of the mouth, as they're a little thin.

music: massive attack, "teardrop"

03 March 2005, 04:23 PM
cool !!!

waiting to see more !
c ya !

03 March 2005, 05:29 PM
as i said before dc....i like to

thnks for he

Crits... side of mouth...more blend/

toung..under ridge? the little roapy bit?\

looks like you are getting the runder goin happy..

love cyb

03 March 2005, 11:50 PM
Wow, your tongue's looking great. Even from that close up it works, I find it hard enough just to draw a tongue in that position let alone model one. Good job DC.

03 March 2005, 02:11 AM
Thanks guys!

Hehe, only you two and my ex-roommate still call me DC... f^-^;;

Yeah Cyb, the tongue "rudder" needs to be added in. I have polygons there for it, but they were accidentally attached to the bones in the tongue when I did the test. I'll try to fix that when I put her into her actual pose.

03 March 2005, 02:54 AM
but your name is DC? is it not?

mother fu....hehe

03 March 2005, 09:20 AM
Watch those corners of the mouth! Try to add more geometry there. The mouth is the part taht has the most attention and therefore needs to be as convincing as possible.
teeth and tongue're coming along nicely!

04 April 2005, 10:55 PM
Strange... But i'm curious!
I want to see more!

Good luck!

04 April 2005, 02:29 PM (

The last image was a bit too childish. The head's too... I dunno, round? Innocent? And the neck's too long.

I'm re-working the head. I didn't like the lips before and the reason became apparent to me -- my lines were terrible. I've got much better topology now and the lips are shaping up a fair-sight better.

I've also made her skinnier. Bit more model-looking now. I guess that can't be helped; I'm going for a more deadly-sexy look than what I had before.

music: courtney love, "almost golden"

04 April 2005, 02:44 PM
dude with the mirriord mesh not joined in the center she sorta looks lioke a cat!!
so you could make a piece out of my three elements in life...

a female ninja cat licking herself in the mirror!! awesome idea!!

but then again you you could just keep going as you are....

04 April 2005, 06:14 AM (

Just adding more detail to the lips. The bottom one's looking more like my original reference now. Just gotta figure out the corners and add the detailing needed for smiles outside.

04 April 2005, 09:10 AM (

w00t! Two posts in one day! Although I forgot to mention that the song for the last one was madonna's "impressive instant."

This image, I've fixed up a lot of the weirdness on her body and re-attached the head. The inside of the mouth will need a complete overhaul, but the teeth and gums should be okay. The weirdness under the chin is because the model is split down the middle and I haven't joined the pieces yet.

I might actually get to some texturing next, or do the hair; haven't decided.

music: joy division, "she's lost control"

04 April 2005, 03:59 PM
she looks cute....cant wait to see how you handle the hair...

also cant wait to see when you do some textures and stuff to build her up a little....

just cant wait!

oh and also just noticed that the gap between her nose and lip is a little big...

keep it up

04 April 2005, 04:01 PM
Erotica definatly has a place in art,.... and my vote  .

04 April 2005, 04:03 PM
Thanks for the support, Cyb! (^o^) There will be at least one ninja image before the end of the contest. We can pretty much submit anything anyways...

Erotica definatly has a place in art,.... and my vote  .

Thanks for dropping by, Kanga! As for erotica... well, this won't exactly be a clean image if I can pull it off. :)

04 April 2005, 04:14 PM
Well i like the character, but I think that she will need fuller lips. Also the top of the head looks a bit too round to me. But if she will have hair, that's not important. :)

04 April 2005, 03:14 AM

The first version had fuller lips, although you couldn't see it on the image because I flattened the shading. This version has pretty full lips, and I might make them bigger when I do a second pass on the head to make it more feminine.

And the head is pretty round. Haven't figured out yet what to change to fix that, tho. ^_^;;

04 April 2005, 03:20 AM (

Sifted through about a hundred images on hair styles on the internet and I came down to these two. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the long one.

I've been taking pictures of all my beautiful friends and taking pieces of them to add to the character. I'm really excited because this one lady I work with has agreed to let me take a shot of her eyelashes, which are the longest I've ever seen off the Miss Universe stage. I also got mouth positions from a different friend.

Inside of the mouth is done, although you can't see it; gotta place the teeth and put in some bones and morph targets!

music: lamb, "one"

04 April 2005, 04:45 AM
I sort of like the short one, its more "perky". but the intense red relly is a sexy choice! loving that. her hair looks a bit like a friend of mine, i'll send you a pic of her, if you want. thanks for your input on my tread by the way!
there's much progress on your model and it got better from post to post! keep on going!

04 April 2005, 09:35 AM (

Worked on the hair texture a bit today. Never done one quite like this before, so I'm really surprised at how well it's turned out. Need to tweak it more, of course, but this is a good start.

music: portishead, "roads"

04 April 2005, 03:11 PM (

With hair in place I'm attempting to adjust the textures. Alpha channel's a bit screwy as is transparency. Going to have to layer the living hell out of the hair to have it look even moderately good.

Dunno if you can see the changes from the last render... maybe I should have marked this one as a "modeling" entry. ^-^;;

music: zazie, "autant de peine que toi"

04 April 2005, 03:14 PM
Thanks for stopping by Sacha! (^o^)/

Yeah, the shorter one is perkier. The more I look at the two the more I think that'll be the final style. (The above hair shot is the beginning of that one, I think.)

I would appreciate the reference shot, if you don't mind. I'm kattkieru a yahoo. Cheers for that!

04 April 2005, 02:32 AM (

Minor changes to the hair texture and alpha maps. Tried changing the ends and found that I like them quite the way they are. The base, though, now has gaps.

music: nine inch nails, "ruiner"

04 April 2005, 03:44 PM (

Modelling one side of the head's hair is alright now. This is still the base layer. Dunno if you can see it, but I also played a bit with the alpha again.

music: ani difranco, "done wrong"

04 April 2005, 01:30 AM
Good choice going for the shorter style, looking good. The hair is definately coming along a treat. Your doing a great job, it even looks like she's been to the hairdressers with her highlights and such. Keep it up Cloud.

04 April 2005, 07:40 AM (

Working on the mirror now. I've been terribly sick for a while now, but I've hit the doctor up for some meds and I'm back to modeling today. Might be able to get this done by the weekend.

The design is a bit of a mix from a few photos I found on Google when I did a search for "victorian mirror."

music: sheryl crow, "if it makes you happy"

04 April 2005, 09:07 AM (

There we go. I'm liking the shape of the sides. It's going to have a wall behind it, I think, something so wide it goes off both sides of the "shot."

Time to start posing the girl, I think!

music: vonda shepard, "i only wanna be with you"

04 April 2005, 04:07 PM (

Yay! Moving along again! This is a terrible example of the progress I've made. I put bones into the model and posed her a bit, but I need to play with it to get the pose right. music: dru hill, "beauty"

05 May 2005, 07:52 PM
Lookin good buddy!

Could you exagerate the perspective to give more view by lowering the lens size of you camera? Don't know what that would do to the main figure tho.

Keep it up

05 May 2005, 03:49 AM
Hey Kanga! Actually, that image is a bit old. In the most recent pose the camera was a lot closer and she was more pressed against the mirror. I also cheated out the mirror and her face so that it all kind of works better together with the angle.

Unfortunately I did some stuff backwards so I had to drop back to an earlier version of the scene to rebuild a few things and redo the texturing. The up side is that I got the UV map for the visible parts of her body done (she's going to be wearing a shirt in the final and it covers most of her), so all that's left to do is add details by painting. I'm not the best painter so it's proving difficult. ^-^

But I bought Hash A:M and the latest OS patch broke it, so I have no reason to not spend a lot of time working on this in my original software. Hehe...

05 May 2005, 05:50 AM
But I bought Hash A:M and the latest OS patch broke it,AM is a darn good app,... hope you get things fixed!
I used that program for years.

Don't forget to use their forum as well as this one, its also a great resource  .

Here some reference about the pose for your contest:
FYI, the model's name is Caroline Bittencourt, brazilian.

The picture was taken from this link:,,ZF32-4125,00.html

About your evolution, the model is coming good. I liked the hair test.
Waiting to see what's coming up next!!

05 May 2005, 03:14 PM
Wow so nice, like the mirroring

05 May 2005, 02:38 AM
cara-rj: Thanks for that! Neat image. The angle is proving difficult, but I'm still working at it!

ilusiondigital: Thanks for dropping by! It's nice that I get people I've never met before in on my page. ^-^

Lots of technical difficulties lately... I'm thinking I'm not going to be able to finsh this image before the deadline, but I'm still working at it. Just wish the internet would get turned back on at home! I can't upload from the internet cafe...

05 May 2005, 07:15 PM
Hair colour looking superb!

Howz it commin kat?

Hair colour looking superb!

Howz it commin kat?

Heh, you like the grey one better, huh? I kind of did too, but that's actually a rendering error I had to work around. ^-^;;

I'm not going to make it. Between work and technical issues I've just been slowed down too much. I learned a lot, though, which is what this whole thing was about in the first place, so I still feel accomplished. Maybe next time I'll make it to the end?

So thanks to everyone who stopped by to help me out! And I'm not giving up on this model; I have another idea for her which I've already started working on, so maybe you'll be seeing her in the WIP pages.

Good luck to everyone else who was able to finish their entries!
