eddieellis has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Final Image: Final Picture and Description (

I wanted to make his as open to interpretation as possible regarding the master and servant brief....

Most people will see that the girl is the master just by the unequal strength between the two characters (i.e. the beast being the protector)... I tried to flip this round by putting the beast asleep and positioning him in such a way that would suggest a child like state of vulnerability , thus making for that instant the girl being the protector.
Although most Master and servant relationships are based on unequal power, I tried to base this picture on the fact that although the beast is the servant, the master loves and respects him for the protection and security he give her.... thus creating a atmosphere of love and respect for one and each other.

03 March 2005, 01:48 PM
this is my first challenge, so i can't wait to get started..... Good luck to all and i hope i can at least compair to some of the

Good Luck guy's

03 March 2005, 02:33 PM
New Concept.... hi guy's think this is pritty much self expanitary... The beast is asleep and the girl (master) is cuddling.

Hope you like

03 March 2005, 10:45 AM (

My final Concept idea, goiing to go into Max now and model

03 March 2005, 12:28 PM (

Ok ive started to model the head of my beast, and i wanted to give him a kinda peaceful and happy expression, while he is asleep.

This is how far i have got

03 March 2005, 03:01 PM
I like ur idea. Also the peaceful look u have give to the beast.
Seriously...its great.
best of luck!!

03 March 2005, 03:34 PM
Cheers mate, I wnated to give my beast a air of contentness, i know when i give my Mrs a cuddle when she is asleep, she smiles... and i m trying to emulate this in my pic.

Plus if you have never seen any of my work before, its nearly all horror and i want to try to create something beautiful for a change.

03 March 2005, 04:16 PM

Just an update on progress

03 March 2005, 10:21 AM
I decided to give my beast evan more appeal by modelling him with his arse up in the air (still asleep) to give him evan more of a childlike appeal.

03 March 2005, 01:24 PM (

OK finished rough arms, need to do the legs now

03 March 2005, 01:30 PM
That's really cute! :scream:
Good modelling so far.

03 March 2005, 01:32 PM
Thanks mate, its nice to actual get an opinion, rather than just me posting updates !

03 March 2005, 01:41 PM
:applause: Very cool! I love his facial expression and how he's sprawled out.

Excellent job so far, looking forward to more!

03 March 2005, 03:21 PM
Thanks mate, i actually really enjoying doing this project, as normally i rig and skin everything. so its nice to do some static work

03 March 2005, 04:46 PM (

Well, i think thats the basic mesh for the beast finished, just need to do the detailing later... but i think i am going to start to the fairy now.

Not completely happy with the pose, but tell me what you think ?

03 March 2005, 05:02 PM
Hello eddieellis ,
i think this is my FIRST REPLY EVER on this great site , i visit cgtalk very regularly and when there's a challenge started i visit it every morning , before i go to work and after i came back .
I can't imagine how you've modelled this great creature , just by this simple sketch .
Don't get me wrong , it's a huge compliment , and shows your skills and being able to think in 3 dimensions .
3D is my hobby too ..( an expensive one though ..) and one day i want to be part of these challenges too .
I wish you good luck and definitely will follow your progress .
Greetings from Monji .

03 March 2005, 05:14 PM
The pose is excellent, that creature looks so happy and comfortable. Great work!

03 March 2005, 05:36 PM
3D is my hobby too ..( an expensive one though ..) and one day i want to be part of these challenges too .

Hey Mate, thanks for the reply..... the best bit of advice that i can give people is to take part in these comp's as although you might not win, its the best way to learn.... Most people seem to stick to what they know, but the best way to improve is too try something new and something you don't think that you can do (challenge yourself)... and when you can do it... move on to the next thing.
Thats the way i have taught myself.....

CoCoKNight thanks for your comment it makes me feel better now as that is exactly what i was trying to attcheive

03 March 2005, 05:52 PM
very nice modeling. sweet beast. i like the pose too. very calm.

thank's for your tip, although i'v already joined to this challenge i find your words encouraging.

03 March 2005, 05:55 PM
Tremendous modeling! Will you be applying fur to the creature?

Subscribed. Good luck!

03 March 2005, 08:53 PM
thats some powerfull beast heheh but how relaxing it looks :).... congrats on the modeling its good. like the idea very much

03 March 2005, 09:33 PM
eddieellis wonderful start ... also some really nice stuff on your web ... very moody stuff that should fit in very well with this challenge .. really nice

best of luck on your first challenge:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 12:27 AM
Nice modeling! Are you modeling with polys? What software? The sleeping beast reminds me of smaug slumbering on his treasure mound in The Hobbit. But he is not threatening. More like the Big Totoro from My Neighbor Tortoro.

03 March 2005, 04:42 AM
wow this is very nice.. i can alomost c the final product by looking at those models... very promissing... o, another thing, i really like ur modleing and character concept! i got one suggestion for u, the beast's back looks too skinny, as its head looks like its body is huge, so if u can giv the big guy more waight then it would be fine... keep up the good works mate and show us more!

03 March 2005, 08:19 AM
Thanks for the kind comments guy's...

Im a 3ds max modeller, so the beast was modelled using box modelling in max 5, i will be perfecting soon, which will sort the back issue out, as i know your right. i was trying to go for the toddeler look, hence why the head is bigger proportioned then the body, but i think im going to put a extra role of puppy fat around the back area to sort it out.

03 March 2005, 10:56 AM
Hey guy,s think i sorted the back prob... tell me what you think ?

03 March 2005, 12:12 PM
the puppy fat does add a certain charm. great modelling and posing.

03 March 2005, 12:30 PM
Lovely! Wonderful touch to make the beast so sweet and harmless... so, perhaps you could do the little girl evil? That would turns things around even more. You've got a really good start here I will follow with pleasure:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 12:33 PM
like it alot, thats going to be a great great piece. see you

03 March 2005, 01:07 PM

nice idea you got there. Maybe your monster could even have some more weight so it gives a more lazy impression...

03 March 2005, 01:54 PM
I have been toying with the idea of a evil girl (fairy), but i think in all honesty it would kinda take the power of the image way alittle... after all this will be judged on emotional response.

So i think im gunna stick with a good girl (fairy) which will envorce the bond between both characters, kinda mutual love and respect angle

03 March 2005, 01:55 PM
Cute,I like theese disney kind'a characters.I wanna see how U going to deal with the texture, cos U said It's going to be toadd alike. It is just impressive to watch how project grow,
Use to like watching those speed videos of building stages and scenography, and groving plants, and from scratch U get to see something evolving wright infront .Keep us posted pal.

03 March 2005, 01:58 PM
sorry i meant toddler (small child)... i think textur wise, he is gunna look kinda like Dr Jeckel form the Van helsin movie

03 March 2005, 08:49 PM
yeah eddieellis i agree with the small child concept....fairies might take the uniqueness away from it....the textureing i got to see  !

03 March 2005, 10:35 AM (

OK, been working on the posistion of the baby in this peice and for best impact i decided on this. Still have allot of modelling left to do *baby wise) but should give you a good idea...

Once modelled the baby will be stroking the beast head.

03 March 2005, 12:17 PM
My 3yr old niece has a 120lb Rottweiler(sp) and I swear this image reminds me of her and her dog.

This is looking really good so far!

03 March 2005, 12:54 PM
Nice model so far, I'm sure it will be great when you start texturing... good luck :)

03 March 2005, 05:40 PM
I'm impressed with layout. A bit more expressive pose and... it will come a good contrast illustration!
Keep it up!

don't hesitate visiting my M&S page (

03 March 2005, 11:29 PM (

Ok nearly finished basic mesh for both characters.

Would appericate any crits or commetns on girls posture !

03 March 2005, 09:47 AM (

Hey guy's, im still toying with the idea of a Fairy girl, so i have put a moke up of her wings..

Tell me what you think ?

03 March 2005, 10:07 AM
Hi there!
One word for your work so far .... amazing. :applause:
I like the idea of the fairy.... why don't you make her eyes half shut.... in a dreamy sort of the way??
I think it'll add to the bond you are trying to show....Just a suggestion.
Best of luck!!

My Entry(Plz have a look) (

03 March 2005, 10:41 AM
Great modeling. Just the fairy face is looking a littlebit angry.
You could smooth out the eye area.

I like to follow your progress.

03 March 2005, 10:57 AM
Hey mate... i see what you mean.... ive tweaked alittle... and think i have sorted

03 March 2005, 11:41 AM
this is looking great....

03 March 2005, 03:36 PM (

OK this is my first lighting test, to try to establich mood and envirnoment.

03 March 2005, 04:07 PM
Yes! This is coming along very nicely. There is something about her eyes that makes her look more as a grownup than a child. I'm not sure but perhaps they are a bit to big?
The composition and lighting is wonderful... this image makes me smile already :)

03 March 2005, 04:22 PM
That is so cute!! :scream:

Maybe it youldnt hurt if the face of the girl was rounder and smoother?

03 March 2005, 04:34 PM
Wow! It's very very but Very good, man! Wait for ups!

03 March 2005, 07:33 PM
Very nice Ed!

03 March 2005, 07:34 PM
man i love that big monster guy , would love to animate him

coming along nicely!

03 March 2005, 07:57 PM
Great to see your update ,

it would be nice if you just slightly open one of the beast`s eyes , and that the girl`s eyes are aimed slightly at his head ..
very nice atmosphere you've created !!

03 March 2005, 08:07 PM
Nice concept and model

03 March 2005, 09:14 PM
heya, found my way to your thread..
great concept .. I like the peaceful mood and comfort zone

03 March 2005, 11:46 PM
Hey guy's thanks for the kind comments, im really enjoying doing this peice and its a far way off my preferred genre.... i will update with more progress soon, as i am now thinking about how to tackle Texturing and Environment.. any suggestions are welcome.

Gunilla : tried to tackle the face smoothness... see below and tell me if this is better !

03 March 2005, 11:48 PM
Hi eddieellis.......very cute, very well done......Sweet and gentle....I like your concept and entry very much.......I'l be watching for your progress...And best to you as you go.....:arteest:

03 March 2005, 12:23 PM (

well i decieded to go for the pastel type effect as a more photo realistic option would take away some of the emotion from the image.

Tell me what you think ?

03 March 2005, 07:39 PM (

Hey Guy\\\'s,
Managed to get this texturing today, but im really not to sure on it... so any crit are welcome.

Thanks for you help in advance

03 March 2005, 07:50 PM
OK decided to get rid of fur, as it just wasn't doing anything for me... let me know which you prefer ?

The Prophet
03 March 2005, 07:53 PM
i like the one without fur better, but maybe you can try putting fur on some places not all, and try to vary the lengt of it.

Great modelling btw.

03 March 2005, 08:05 PM
Very cool. I like this alot. Very nice expressions. Good work.

03 March 2005, 08:59 PM
Wow, wow and wow, Eddie this rocks, you've captured security and control in the girl exceptionally well. Her arm pose looks a little unnatural at the mo but that's easily fixed...
I prefer no fur, I think a bump will do it a world of good tho
Keep it up

03 March 2005, 09:34 PM
hey guys thanks for the great comments.... i know your all right about the fur thing, not really sure what i was thinking when i posted it.... he is gunna have some hair though, had a great idea of a hairy back !....

03 March 2005, 09:41 PM
Wow amazing, you're really fast man!!!

imho, I think you should go with localised fur because it gives a very nice and interesting sheen. It was one of the things that hooked me on the first page definitely should keep it in on some places. Maybe like with silverbacks, less on the torso and belly but more on limbs and the face?

Very cool!!! Ow so cute!!!

edit: isn't that weird! was just posting the opposite of your approach.:surprised You'll pull it of I'm sure.

03 March 2005, 09:43 PM
:scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream:

03 March 2005, 11:09 PM (

OK, think i sorted the hair problem.. wanted to give the beast a hairy back to give it evan more of a humanesk apperance.

Tell me if you like

03 March 2005, 11:24 PM
wow thats great work. see you and

03 March 2005, 12:44 AM
This one is looking pretty damned cute.

One of my favorite 3D entries by far thusfar.

03 March 2005, 12:27 PM
Guys guys started to work on the Bumps map and Specualr map today

I didn't want to give the beast to much bump mapping as i think it would spoil the smoothness of the pic.. so just gave him some spots and moles

Let me know what you think ?

03 March 2005, 12:48 PM
Nice progress!

Watch the monster's side though. There is a definite "hair line" on the side. Maybe a hair map or something could blend it out a bit.

03 March 2005, 12:52 PM
Heya Eddie, lovin it all the way, I'd mess the hair up a bit tho, it still looks too neat at the moment

03 March 2005, 12:53 PM
:) This just brings a happy smile to my face ... whatever you do - go on like this, it's so adorable.

03 March 2005, 12:56 PM
amazing :applause: this come out really nice !!!

03 March 2005, 01:29 PM
thanks guy's, took your advice DaddyMack and messed the hair up alittle, and for that extra appeal i decided to give him a monk haircut and bold patch..... lol (see above)

hope you like

03 March 2005, 01:37 PM
this is the first time i visited this thread but i will be stalking around... The image itself is full of emotion... way to go man:buttrock:

03 March 2005, 01:50 PM
SMiles SMiles SMiles it reminds too much of my imaginary friend bob (shutup bob im typing)sorry he talks alot.. Anyways.. this is such a great looking and very innocent image here.. very nice dude.. the master servant image your portraying here i must say is very humble and has mild feeling too it.. very nice

03 March 2005, 02:36 PM
Thanks man... not sure if thats compliment are not, but i'll take it as one !

03 March 2005, 02:39 PM
Nice work man!!! Youīre so fast!
keep it up my friend!

03 March 2005, 03:31 PM
Cheers man, never really noticed about how fast i do things, due to being a student, i haven't got anybody to compaire too.

OK, i think thats nearly it for the Characters, just need alittle tweaking here and there. So im going to get to work on a environment now (not sure what yet) .. so any suggestion would be great.

03 March 2005, 03:37 PM
getting better and better, thats great, see you and

03 March 2005, 03:38 PM
great work there eddie...

03 March 2005, 03:55 PM
Its a compliment dude... Awesome!!:applause:

03 March 2005, 08:35 AM
Cheers Dude, just hope i can do a fitting environment. thanks for your comments guy's, their giving me so much confidence to produce something beautiful for a change.

03 March 2005, 11:14 AM (

OK finish the texturing for my characters, so im starting on Environment now.

03 March 2005, 02:07 PM
The texturing is looking really good now...
I don't know what exactly you have done to the eyes but they do look good even if they are big.

03 March 2005, 02:16 PM
Nice update. The hair looks a lot better and the wings are turning out nicely.

03 March 2005, 04:09 PM
Loving your work amigo, that beast seems to have his hairstyle modelled on my dad - i like it!!

If i had to crit i would say that at the moment it looks like this beast would be a bit out of proportion if he stood up. Massive brutish head but relatively small chest and waist...not sure how you could fix this and still get the back curve you have though?!

Excellent work though, great feeling to it.

03 March 2005, 04:16 PM
wow !! ure doing this very fast !! great textures...

c ya !

03 March 2005, 08:48 AM (

Well this is my first run on environment, i clipped the girls wings to stay in line with the brief... but im thinking of changing concept to a birthday scene, maybe putting a fence in background with a dog kennel (with birthday ribbon round).. which means that i can still use wings but make it look like she is dressed up as a fairy for her birthday....

Not sure yet, so any suggestion would be cool

03 March 2005, 09:06 AM
This is one of my top 5 favourites in this contest so far!

03 March 2005, 10:38 AM
That's looking so great thus far. An enchanted forest environment would be so cool! with glowing things in the air and stuff... Many mushrooms. What ya think? :)

03 March 2005, 10:43 AM
i was just modelling a mushroom as you said it, such i good idea, will see what i can come up with... (not sure what size to do things though) i was thinking about everything being oversized if you know what i mean !

03 March 2005, 10:47 AM
yep, oversized fits very well!

03 March 2005, 10:50 AM
by the way. To have the sceene lit by just that one ehm... what's it called? torch? a great idea, but I'd try something not-man-built if you know what I mean :) something natural, maybe with many fireflies in it, producing the light...

03 March 2005, 11:58 AM
Hey mate, i think the birthday thing is good - i would love to see this big fella with a birthday cone hat on his hes tired from all the partying! And maybe one of those party rolled up whistle things stuck in his mouth...just an idea.

Try and make sure you don't stray too much away from the master/servant thing. At the moment there is not really any visual symbol of that here..unless you put a collar on him.

Loving your work though, keep at it.

PS - bear in mind that if you have oversized things in the scene it might take away from the size of the beast...unless you can alter the scene to make him even bigger than the girl? Just a thought.

03 March 2005, 12:09 PM
great work and great idea, see you and

03 March 2005, 12:16 PM

Few, got it be the long post i have ever wrote

Alex.h ... cheers dude for the comment and heads up about the brief... you saved my pic from being binned

03 March 2005, 01:50 PM
man this is looking great, what is that maya u r using, well whatever t is i like it!!!:D

03 March 2005, 02:23 PM
hey dude, na i use max 5.... everything is rendered straight from that

03 March 2005, 10:06 PM
hi are already completing it  !.....very nice indeed!..very fairy tale like!

03 March 2005, 10:53 PM
hey dude, not quite, i stll have to do the background, which i think will take a week or two

04 April 2005, 12:42 AM

so warm

dog kennel? yuk!. the atmosphere doesnt fit.
maybe a birthday cake, some serpertines.
the monster may be a new birthday present

04 April 2005, 12:59 PM
yeh i think the kennel idea was a bad one, so going with the enchanted forest idea

04 April 2005, 01:05 PM
hold the phone! how the #$#%$ did u do that fur man, frickin amazing:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 01:11 PM
love the enchanted forest .. it plays well with the mood of the girl .. something about her skin tone throws me .. don't know what though  ...lovin it

yah need a link to this thread in your sig

04 April 2005, 02:26 PM
Nice work so far, dude. Good luck with the contest.

04 April 2005, 04:48 PM
Cool image!

You're fast!

Did you ever sleep?

04 April 2005, 04:50 PM

I really liked the way you put that.

04 April 2005, 11:43 PM
I like this entry. Cute girl, ugly beast (and he's hairy, eww). Great job, you pretty fast, looks like you'll be done soon. Can't wait to see more.

04 April 2005, 12:02 AM
Looking great. I love the colour to it. Really warm and fuzzy! :)

04 April 2005, 10:53 AM
nebezial : The fur was done with Ornatrix plugin, as was the Grass

pigwater: i think it is the Specular Map... will see if i can fix

TMNI VISION: Cheers Dude, you too

mosconariz: I do sleep, but only about 4 hours a night at the moment (as i need to do my uni work too)

dmonk: Glad you liked it, just hope it comes across in the pic

ace4016: Thanks dude, more should be coming soon.

Neomage: Thanks dude,

04 April 2005, 11:04 AM
very nice image, i like very much the characters contrast.

04 April 2005, 02:20 PM
Looking sweet mate, prefer the messy hair, the volumetric light emitting from the the light looks a bit odd though, probably me.

I registered here just to post this...............:bounce: (this icon is ace)

Post this update on 3DW it's bloody ace

04 April 2005, 02:56 PM
Hello Eddieellis,

I want to start off by saying you have a great concept, and you some great modeling skills. I took a look around your web-site and you have alot of powerful work in there.

This to is my first challange aswell, and the key word is challenge. I joined this callenge because I don't feel you can improve in an thing if it's not callenging, and doesn't push you to the next level.

Well thanks for stopping by my thread, and I defiantly will be stopping by more offend to see your progression. Good luck and I wish you the best.

Master and Servent

04 April 2005, 04:15 PM (

Well, i rendered this today using the standard scanline renderer. im not looking for a too much of a crisp image, as i think it would lose some of its appeal.

Im really not sure weather or not to keep this Environment and would like some input. As this challenge is built on emotion i didn't want to over crowd the background , as i believe it would dullen the characters appeal.

All crits are welcome !

04 April 2005, 05:14 PM
Cute atmosphere there between those offsprings of yours. It is a pleasure see you working :)

04 April 2005, 05:15 PM
Sweet. Great image.
If I were you I would change colors a little (mayby more saturated)

04 April 2005, 05:41 PM
Strange - up until now I was so sure you where going to place them at a fireplace.
The garden could work very well I think, but I suggest you tone down the lamp a bit - right now it draws a lot of attention from the couple.... are you sure you need it? Perhaps the lightsource doesn't have to be visible. Just a thought

The small mushrooms are adorable! :applause:

04 April 2005, 08:57 PM
...colors, lights, modelling, atmosphere... everything very well done, man. Your work is one of my preferred here.:) I will be awaiting the finished work. keep on...

04 April 2005, 03:37 AM
Wow Eddieellis! Beautiful scene my friend!! The colours are just perfect!! The flowers put the scene in another level mate! Very well done! Congrats!

04 April 2005, 07:53 AM
lovly picture, keep going in that way, se you mate and

04 April 2005, 02:43 PM
So beautiful :applause: I really like it

04 April 2005, 05:40 PM
Pulp : Thanks Dude : I have tried playing with Saturation on image (see results below), although the textures seem cleaner.. it loses some of its warmth.

Gunilla : OK rescaled the lanturn, and i am currently modelling some butterflies / Moths which i will place one in front and one to the side.. this should take allot of the plane colour away. I think that i needs that light source in their otherwise people will be asking where the light is coming from

Wandddo : Cheers dude. glad you like. please comment on Saturation ?

mecman : i liked them too, thinking of putting some suttle ones in the background

alex.h. & jddog : Cheers dudes !

OK.. please find to follow the Sat images, would love your opinions as i like both for different reasons.

04 April 2005, 06:01 PM
as said very sweet and warm piece .

04 April 2005, 07:16 PM
Sweet, characteristic and nice coloring. Keep it, but continue improving upon it. Im sure there is more things to come from your creative mind.

Keep it up!

04 April 2005, 07:20 PM
Yes! Much better with smaller lantern  Some moths will add some extra too. Great work - I wonder what you will do the last couple of weeks, with this speed you'll finish long before the challenge is over.

04 April 2005, 08:23 PM
Hi mate! About saturation... a little more color is better, but something between the first image and the last. A little observation, the girl's fist, giving impression that it's penetrating the head of the monster... I can imagine that some rotates can solve it. Keep going friend:thumbsup:
Cheers :)

04 April 2005, 08:29 PM
beautiful concept,very very very nice:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

04 April 2005, 02:02 AM
That's um one hairy A$$ creature hahaha, looking real good. For some reason it just feels animated :)

04 April 2005, 02:52 AM
That is some impressive modeling! the characters have a great style to them. I love the attention to details (on the hair and the grass). The only thing I'd mention is that the girl's hair seems inconsistant with the that of the ogre guy, because his is so realistic and hers seems more stylized. But i really like the mood and feel of the piece as a whole. Great work.

04 April 2005, 07:26 AM
smaddl: thanks dude

mireneye : yep there is still allot to come, more on background and girl texture

Gunilla : i have a few uni projects to be handed in over the next couple of weeks, so i'll catching up on them... plus need to get a job. Pluys i can start critting another posts

Wandddo : comments have been seen and will update asap... having a nightmare with the colouring ,as in Photoshop the saturation looks allot stronger than in any other software. so i don't know which is right.... as the image looks different depending on which software you look at it in.

jdsb: Cheers Dudue

Kid Mesh : im a animation student, maybe my eye catches animation concepts better, coz of my training... not sure... but can't be a bad thing

alexichabane: ... OK, the hair thing is becoming abit of a problem, as i don't actually know how to model hair into a position... fur and grass is easy...
I am trying to learn how and will be replacing if i can get it right in time

thanks all for you comments.

Im having a nightmare with the colouring ,as in Photoshop the saturation looks allot stronger than in any other software. so i don't know which is right.... as the image looks different depending on which software you look at it in. does anybody know why this is or have these issue's ?

04 April 2005, 07:37 AM
brilliant work my friend, the pose of that ogre is hilarious, that's how my dog sleeps hehe they look nice and confortable on that grass, i like the feel of darkness coming from the night and the chracters only lit by a lantern, have u tryed a tad warmer color for the light, a bit more orangy, very slightly, and maybe have less of the character under the light, maybe have a bit of the butt of the ogre in darkness or with only light coming from the moon on half is butt. also, maybe add a flame in the lantern, maybe model a melting candle, that'd be sweet, might add to the atmosphere.

cheers :)

04 April 2005, 10:14 AM
wow uve done a lot since i last saw ur post... amazing... i really liked the lighting concept and the beast is looing fantastic.. can really feel his waight.. one thing, the girl's hand seems a bit off and her face can use some tweaking... but rather then that i love ur work.. keep up the good works mate

04 April 2005, 12:37 PM
Wow, that is real progress and lovely work. I'm guessing you wont be a student long with this standard of work in your reel. Excelent work.

04 April 2005, 12:40 PM
very nice image and concept, i really like it and i really admire your speed.but if i were you i would make the girl also asleep.. a very peacefull sleep.good job:thumbsup::thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 06:18 PM
=BlackNull= : Thanks for the advice, i have done a few things, the light thing is alittle bit of a problem, as if i were to do that, the detailing in the flowers / busg in background wouldn't be shown, which isn't good for the compersition.

overcontrast : ok changed hand, hope it works... face, im nor sure where yuo think it needs tweaking

UK3D : i hope i wont be a student when for much longer, but im finding it really hard to get anything at the moment...

terminus_ad_quem : cheers mate.... but if i put the girl asleep the concept doesn't work as well. Ie view previous post to MVP.

OK well here's soem of the tweaks and the moths added, all crits are welcome, as at the moment im just modelling some bluebells and stuff for background.... aslo any suggestions on how to do the girls hair or tutorials would be greatful

04 April 2005, 06:57 PM
a very sweet and lovely image. nice work.

04 April 2005, 07:00 PM
great work, getting more and more mustical, see you mate and

04 April 2005, 09:01 AM
I think the girls hand is a problem, mostly cos it looks a bit flat, but it may be that it is just a bit bright. I didn't notice it the first time I saw your post, so perhaps we are getting a bit more picky.

I still think that the girls skirt/dress is a bit bland a looks a bit like a rock. Think there should be some texure to it of some kind, and as I suggested perhaps a subtle patern, whihc in turn would contrast a bit with the 'ogre' (is it an Ogre?)

04 April 2005, 09:08 AM
• Jezz, that is looking very goood! congratulations! the hand of the girl is looking a bit extrange, outer than that it is great!

04 April 2005, 09:19 AM
artemesia66 & alex.h. : Cheers Dudes

cmp & Climax : OK, i dont know whats wrong witht the hand, it looks fine too me, but if you can be more spacific i can work out.... also will be texturing the girl in the next couple of days will keep you all updated.

OK, done abit more to the background, and worked alittle more on the hand issue...

Crits are welcome

04 April 2005, 09:27 AM
This is so sweet image...

04 April 2005, 09:40 AM
hi eddieellis!....about the hand...cant say for sure...maybe a different pose to the hand!...i like it the way to looks now :)!....and very nice background:D!...cheers mate!

04 April 2005, 09:48 AM
Its unusuall..but wery nice..
There is a lot of things which makes it great..
I cannt say what is the best thing on it..but I like the girls face much..
This is the final picture?

04 April 2005, 09:56 AM
No not yet, still have abit to do on texturing the girl, but its getting pretty close (mainly coz my computer wont take many more Poly's)

04 April 2005, 10:36 AM
Hi this is my first post here :) Your pics are so cute. I love the monster. Good modeling :) Good luck!

------------------ (

04 April 2005, 02:04 PM
looking fantastic dude.. very very warm feeling to teh scene.. as i can see you still want to work on it more.. i know the feeling of wanting just wants in your head and not listening to your computer;; good luck dude i be watching

04 April 2005, 02:11 PM
wow, awesome dude.. it's looks like you're almost finished!

04 April 2005, 02:20 PM (

OK it's pretty much finished now... sorted out the hand (nearly), fogged the background alittle, and textured the girls dress.

Cant really add to much more, as my computer wont take it any more.

All crits and suggestions are welcome, as i have plenty of time left for tweaking.

Sorry about the colour as i needed reduce the file size to get in upload limit

04 April 2005, 02:21 PM
Oh this is a fun piece of work indeed! I like the color choice and arrangement in the composition. It makes the piece work, finished or not. Work with the girls hand though. The fingers should appear relaxed and close together. Take your time and work through it.

04 April 2005, 05:07 PM

This is my first visit to your thread and you're already finishing! (
And it's so cute!

I agree with Brent_3D. Relax the hand a bit. And her hair does need a little something extra (even just lines would do) - unfortunatly I know of no tuts or techiques I can share with you... (
Great going!

04 April 2005, 05:35 PM
great picture eddiellis, maby put some more life in to light sorse, maby some blue orange and some more details on ground(grass(moss). great pic what so ewer. se you and

04 April 2005, 06:33 PM
very good job ;)

just one thing:

in my opinion, there is a problem with the butterfly which is on the light. It seems like a poster. It would be more realistic if it was darker, cause it is against the light... (sorry for my bad english.)

04 April 2005, 06:37 PM
Hey Peeps,

Can someone answer me a question..
Im having a couple of issues with colour when im adjusting in Photoshop.... Basically when i get the image to look how i want to Photoshop, when its viewed in any online and in my pic viewer the colours are so much duller and the saturation on allot lighter.
When i adjust it to the web and veiwer views and photoshop image, looks kindda over coloured ? (hope that makes sense)

So what i need to know is which is the correct version of the pic ? (Photoshop or veiwer) .... i need to know this for judging ... or do i create two versions, one for Web and one for Print.

Thanks for you help !

04 April 2005, 07:11 PM
You'll want to look into the colour management settings in PS. This is not my area of expertise, but PS might be using a web colour profile, while your browser might not use any particular profile, hence there will be a discrepancy. I would suggest simply switching the PS colour management off (edit menu - colour settings... I'm still on PS 6 though, so things may be different)

Oh, and your image looks quite adorable. The lantern looks a bit off though, somewhat flat, so you might want to give that one another whirl

04 April 2005, 09:34 PM
this... is... GREAT!!!
I meant to say, that your work is GREAT!!!

congrats :applause:

04 April 2005, 09:50 PM
Blimey this one's come along fast!

I really like the big oaf, his posture & expression work very well. I'm less keen on the girl at the moment, I think two things lift her out of the scene... One is her hand, it's very odd to have the wrist as flat as the forearm - when relaxed the wrist almost always bends in one direction. If you angled her arm up slightly & pivoted the hand at the wrist it would create a more natural playful shape.

The other is her gaze, at the moment she's staring off at an undisclosed point, from this I assume you want her to be daydreaming(?), if so maybe have her or gazing toward the lamp... This, combined with the creatures position, would create a triangular composition & tie up the image quite nicely (IMO of course!)

Sorry for the lengthy crit, it's just you've gone so far so soon that you've got plenty of time to tweak & polish this image whilst others will still be frantically coming up with ideas!

Good luck!

04 April 2005, 09:55 PM
cool pic..

i just think the shader can be better..
c ya !

04 April 2005, 10:01 PM
Eddie, coming along wonderfully mate:thumbsup:

You may want to check that you're working in rgb in photoshop, sometimes when cmyk transfers to to rgb you lose some of the saturation and get a slightly different hue, (Image>mode) hope that helps
Keep the great work coming

04 April 2005, 10:12 PM
JamesMK & DaddyMack : cheers guy's, i have checked the setting, and if i select no management the image is the same as the veiwer and web. It was originally set to RGB which gave it a higher Saturation.... SO which do i need to set it too ? (ie how will it be judged ?)

SoniaNotRed, Brent_3D, AJ_23 : ive decieded to cut her hand off (lol) as its causing so many problems... Not really... will see what i can do

gra7 : Eh ?

el_newty: Cheers Dude

julius27 : the reason why it is light is because its in front of a light and the light would shine through

alex.h. : thinking of re-doing as everyone has a different opinion on the light,,, regarding moss and stuff my computer is strugaling with the file as is, adding anything more will just kill it.... but thanks for the input

SoniaNotRed : sorted hair, will post another day, when i have sorted that feckin hand out

Cheers for the comments and crit guy's... more to come later

04 April 2005, 10:17 PM
Hi eddieellis........Well this is certanly warm and whimsical,a wonderful feel good image....and very well donee too....i really like your entry for its charm and warmth along with it's execution....

My only thought s for the girls gaze would be to have her eyes float off up and angled a touch lookng up into the if really daydreaming.....

Possibly close the eyelids a if she is very content and comfortable, almost dozing off with her pet......

Ok..looking very cute and really nice on all fronts.....See you soon..........:arteest:

04 April 2005, 10:46 PM
I love this entry.. Very nicely done throughout. I like how you have been updating the background I would stick with this concept. Maybe a few more silloutted branches and flowers behind the currently lit ones. The butterfly is a nice touch. Perhaps there should be a bull frog leaping on the ground which could be drawing the girls eyes.. Just an idea... anyway good stuff keep it up.

04 April 2005, 12:21 AM
Hi Eddie! I can see your better work now:). The hand was better, and the brightness got better too... but the colors are better a little stronger, however it doesn't reduce the quality of your work:)... and finally, the texture in girl's cloth is well better now too! And about saturation, relax friend... I'm sure that you will find the best way... the most important you already got hehehe:) certainly your work will be a strong competitive to the prizes! :D
C ya

04 April 2005, 12:59 AM
the hair on the monster...just brings the peice to me man....really great

04 April 2005, 01:58 AM
hey eddie .. wonderful stuff

crits ... nothing at all with the creature ... he's great

the background ... the flower right above the creatures hand sticks out to much .. the one in the bushes .. maybe beacause it's solo ... i could see a smaller one or two additional flowers to blend it/balance out more

the girl though, her arm and hand ... those look a little off .. if i cover up her arm and hand it's a fantastic piece ... but right now to me those looks doll like ... maybe if it followed the form of the creature more

anyways , you asked

great

04 April 2005, 10:17 AM
Virtuoso : the reason why i put her eye the way they are is because i wanted to give the impression that see is talking to the beast while stroking his head..... all at the same time that see is keeping a eye out and protecting the slumbering beast.

||) |V| |^| : Same as above & i cant reallt put any more object in the scene as my computer wont take any more poly's

Wandddo : Cheers dude, i'd be just ahppy to be short listed.. I think it would do my job search a world of good to have that on my CV....

Troof: Cheers Dude

pigwater : The hand issue is becoming a real problem as i wont to give the impression of stroking, laying the had falt on head would kindda destroy the animated feel... i really dont know what else to do. I will look at flower point.

OK alittle more tewxturing done, ie girls hair, little more work on hand, coloring etc... (maybe not noticeable but i have done

04 April 2005, 11:03 AM
Hi again Eddie, why dont you try extending the two middle fingers almost to straight, line the hand up to his head so that the tips of those two fingers are touching it and the hand runs just a little off parallel to it. You could position the 2 outer fingers from there by curling them til thier tips hit his head.

Sorry...looked again...the problem seems to be in the elbow. She's leaning into him comfortably, stroking him calmly, but her elbow is just not natural or comfortable looking in comparison. I'd say drop the elbow right down so that she's sorta leaning her forearm on the side of his head, you may need to turn her thoulders toward him a bit...ulp
Hope it helps a bit..
Good luck mate

04 April 2005, 11:05 AM
This is coming along beautifully.
The hair works out really well I think, you culd go for more though.

I'm keeping an eye on this.

04 April 2005, 07:00 PM
Hey eddieellis but this is lovely piace...ehehe very tender image!!

04 April 2005, 08:52 PM
DaddyMack : Hey mate, will see what i can do..... in the next couple of days

jmBoekestein : cheers dude, I like the hair as is... less is more and all that

alexfalchi : Thanks mate

04 April 2005, 08:56 PM
I see about the eyes direction....makes sense Eddieellis.....As for the hair......less is more does work.....but sometimes less is just easier.....;) ....In your case less is working just right....A nice amount and keeps the look and effect you want on an even keel.......Looking for more as you go .....See you....:arteest:

04 April 2005, 08:56 PM
ups, ups, ups???? hahaha, whereīs the ups my friend??
Very nice, the lights and colours are fantastic man!

04 April 2005, 09:40 PM
OK guys ... tired to rearrange the hand as specified... please tell me if this is better

04 April 2005, 09:49 PM
I like the final man, u wanna throw a bizaar twist into it.....have them chained to each other, that would give the happy looking picture some "dark/creepy" look haha

04 April 2005, 09:54 PM
Hi Eddie, I think the hand looks a bit more natural now, it' still needs work tho.

The palm thickness seems to be part of the problem, it makes that gap between the hand and the wrist...Maybe try 'thinning' the palm a bit and readjusting the hand again?

Good luck mate:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 10:09 PM
mmmm yes better now for me ,looking natural!...good.

04 April 2005, 02:41 AM
Concept is great and characters are awesome :). Really great picture

04 April 2005, 05:20 AM
I've been looking at your updates from the start but I couldn't find the right words to say it all so at this point in time I'm really enjoying your work I like the texture and the lighting you used on your work ...

handsonfire <- this is my thread

04 April 2005, 09:36 AM
Marcus_B : to be honest mate, i think anything like that would ruin the atmosphere

DaddyMack : think i sorted, check above

alexfalchi & Abishai_ : Cheers Dudes

hands0nfire : Cheers dude !

04 April 2005, 09:54 AM
I think I started this conversation about the hand, so I guess I should try to elaborate: I think it looks a bit like it isn't resting on his head, but floating and this is becasue the fingers are all in the same pose, no variation. The result is that it looks less natural (I think soemone else sugegsted making more relaxed and this is basically the same thing). So get your hand or some little girl and get them to rest their hand on something, so you can see what looks more natural, even better if you can get a picture!

I persnally think the giral texture makes it much better, and certainly on her hair, although i am not sure if the choice on the dress is what i would have chosen as it is perhaps a little close in colour to the flowers, but this is an aesthetic choice.

04 April 2005, 11:41 AM
OK for a start she is not resting her hand on his head, she is stroking his head, you cant strock someone with a flat hand... you move the fingers in a skatching motion. (hense why they are not flat)

Will do tests on textures of dress and see which i think is best

04 April 2005, 02:15 PM
Hi eddieellis,
It's incredible to see how someone can work so fast and obtain good stuff. You've almost finished your image. Modeling, texturing and lighting are well done so far.
Great job.

keep it up:buttrock:

04 April 2005, 02:42 PM
So cute... Good idea... Great realisation ! Like the lighting, the lamp gonna be better with a sweet glow !

Anyway, Good Job, like it ! :bounce:

04 April 2005, 02:49 PM
pah, fastard. was impossible to follow your progress, cuz you worked like a flash of lightning and when i make it to pay you a visit you're almost done. and you done freakin niceley so far yet. very very kewl piece, the mood, the textures, the characters, the scene, all over superlovley.
my only suggestion is to lay her hand a bit more natural on his head, the handpose compared to the rest of the very sweet posing actually looks a bit riggid. exceptional sweet work
Keep it up mate!

04 April 2005, 02:50 PM
The hand is a lot better eddie. Perhaps, add more volume to the fingers...I donīt know...just a sugestion!
anyway the scene is perfect to me! You work very fast and with an amazing quality!
see you mate! and congrats!

04 April 2005, 05:34 PM
U did big progress.I like the image. So U took the fur in the end.I made little pause, but now i hope i could dig in 100%.

04 April 2005, 06:13 PM
Hey Man.. Great Work Here... Itīs So Peaceful... Congratulations!!!

04 April 2005, 06:28 PM
:) Yes great work Eddie and done so quickly !!!

Well done and good luck in the competition

04 April 2005, 07:01 PM
Still looking swell... I am still modeling my beast...and your almost done... bah lol ;)

04 April 2005, 08:36 AM
Ok. didn't get that with the hand. Think that if I were to 'stroke the beast' the hand would be going side to side, but I guess you are going towards the girls body. Still seems a bit regular, but I am probably out voted now! Look forward to seening different textures on cloth.

04 April 2005, 09:01 AM
Hello matey,

Great pic you have there. It obviously depends on what look you are going for but I would love to see some bump texture in this picture to really bring it to life, at the moment both the girl and the beast are completley smooth which (imo) takes away from the picture, i think a little bump map for the light to play off would work wonders, and you do have a little time left.

Also if you could put some hair on the beasts head and have it coming thru her fingers then that would back up the whole stroking thing a bit more. Just some ideas, do with them as you will,

good luck tho, still love the pic.

04 April 2005, 02:11 PM
The biggest emotional outcome I have seen so far on the whole challenge. Don't want to offend enyone else, it is my personal opinnion. All counterparts of the image is good solid. But the amount of emotions between the characters is blowing up my emotiomometer. This kind of aproach was always anaccesaeble for me. I prefer logical finking instead of this metaforic/cartoon like aproach.

Great Stuff.

Best of luck.

04 April 2005, 02:13 PM
No update here?? well i'm wait:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 02:19 PM
I love it! So cute!
They look so peaceful..
Kepp it up!

04 April 2005, 02:39 PM
Just very recently there was around 50 or so posts. and the texturing had not started... Because I hadn't wanted to set a simple "Aw cool", I thought I would just follow up.. And now I come again... WHAT has HAPPENED here?!

Your entry is VERY sweet.. and infact of the top in the list of all the entries I have come cross yet! Amazing speed in creating it!

Are you fine now with your photoshop settings? If not you may want to set your colour management to "Web Defaults". While doing graphics for agencies the other options were fine. But since I turned to web default. I have never really witnessed a situation that the output doesn't match what I have on screen.

Hope for the best with your FANTASTIC work;

04 April 2005, 02:57 PM
ninox : CHeers Man, i don't know about speed, as it feels like i have been doing nothing else over the last couple of weeks... but thanks

Mr.Waka : Cheer mate, their is alittle glow around the lamp at the moment, i tried tests with a higher density but it put the image off alittle

the1st_angel : thanks for the comments, i know the hand is an issue for some people, but i am trying to show her stroking/schrathes his head and leying the hand flat wouldn't give that impression.

mecman, A I R, neo_sk8rider, 3dhamster, ||) |V| |^| : ......cheers dudes

CMP : will post as soon as i find suitable textures

MVP : OK here goes, there is actually bump maps on the beast, in the form of little pimples.
I decided at a early stage to lose bump maps as the image itself looks much more cleaner and softer without them. i did this to add to the atmosphere of the peice. I looked into how PIXAR do their characters and from what i could see they dont use bump maps at all.
The other reason im staying away from bump maps is because of the complication that they rise when it comes to rendering a high res image for print, Bump maps by defult dont create any geometry which becomes a problem when i comes to lighting, they just give the impression of shadow. when it come to the high res image this is easily seen. in all fairness if i was going to do bumps and lumps i would go through Zbrush and create some distortion maps, but this would still leave me with a less rounded picture, thus taking away some of the cartoon atmosphere i have work so hard to create. (thus minimal bump maps)...

suk-grigorij : CHeers Mate, are you on the judging panel by any chance ?....... lol

alexfalchi : sorry mate, will work harder

inbata : Thank you very much

Black : thanks for the kind comment... i currently have my setting to no management which has fixed the problem... my issue is if the judges have there machines set to RBG...etc. my image will change for the worse and will not show them the colurs i wanted them to see.
So which do i set them to or does the file export the right setting with it as i save as a Tiff (hope that made sense)

Thanks to all, i have been alittle overwelmed by the amount of encouraging posts from everybody... thanks again........ give me

04 April 2005, 03:12 PM
Dude, good work especially the hair. It look so good it gross me out :D . Very good combo cute & gross.

04 April 2005, 02:24 AM
Hello eddieellis,

I wanted to stop by and pay my respects as you did for my, and I must say MUCH RESPECT. You have got a beautiful piece of work there. :buttrock:

04 April 2005, 11:26 AM

Man...this is so cute ..i think it's one of the most unforgetable images of this challenge...
This is so sweet image.....(pumping up your power for more ...hehehhe...although i think u are almost finished personally)

Amazing work of my favourites :bounce:

i want wallpaper of this ...weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:bounce:

04 April 2005, 11:47 AM
Great work here ... Congratulations !

04 April 2005, 01:09 PM
Digitalpepper : glad you like man

Sifer : thanks dude... when i have more time, i will start posting allot more on other peoples enrties.

DimitrisLiatsos : Thanks dude, really means allot coming from somebody of your calibur. Well yes its nearl finished now, im just finishing off the background by compersiting in photoshop, and then its just a case of cleaning up the loss ends on the high res version. as well you probably know low res versions dont show all the detail as high res so your attention to detail is more visible in high res. it also means that any little mistakes are quite plan to see.

3DForEverything : thanks man.

04 April 2005, 04:23 PM
The girl body needs more form her hand is stiff it need more floweddieellis has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Post Effects and Compositing: Nearly Finish (

OK it's pretty much finished now... sorted out the hand, fogged the background alittle, sorted out the hand issue, and textured the girls dress.

Cant really add to much more, as my computer wont take it any more.

All crits and suggestions are welcome, as i have plenty of time left for tweaking

04 April 2005, 04:34 PM
post deleted.....

04 April 2005, 08:58 PM (

As my computer was having a nightmare rendering the full image, i decided to render in layers and then composite in Photoshop using their alpha channels.

Final Output

04 April 2005, 11:07 PM
nice nice!!

04 April 2005, 11:24 PM
Nice going, how lngo does it take to render out the longest pass? Aslo, have you notice that one of the flowers on the right side stands out a lot compared to the others?

04 April 2005, 11:48 PM

very nice progress in here... maybe you just place another butterfly on top of here hand to get rid of this "hand-problem"... the monster and the rest looks so authentic but the hand really disturbs this impression. BTW great work

04 April 2005, 07:57 AM
alexfalchi : Cheers dude.

ace4016 : not to long, it only takes around 3 mins to render Step 3... the flowers stad out more on that side because of the light, the ones behind the creature are in shadow.

theuni : you know the butterfly idea is getting more and more appealing, unfortunatly if i do that everybody will start asking why the girl is looking into space again.

I actuall though i had finally got th hand sorted, but obviously its still causing a problem for some people, so any suggestions would be great.

04 April 2005, 09:58 AM
great work eddieellis, but i notise that her right ponytail is meeting the beast quit strange,
see you and again, great work,

04 April 2005, 03:39 PM
Hey Edie,
great to see you already play aroud with renderpasses. I agree with alex, the ponytail could be a bit tweaked. the hand doesnt look so bad, to cover it with the butterfly would be distracting from the intimate connections tthe 2 have now, sort of 1 too much.
maybe the lightfalloff of the lantern is a bit long and yeallowish on the grass, (specially towards the horizonline of the grasslayer) just keep on goin mate! love your worx!

04 April 2005, 04:02 PM
Great work eddieellis, a masterpiece:eek:

04 April 2005, 08:45 PM
Nice work again Mate, Very Nice

I am just a beginner but I do think this is the best render yet, the lamp especially, better glow now. As for the hand I agree with a post about maybe getting it to twist some of the beast's hair...... ????

Anyway as it is it's a great pic and very worthy of recognition :applause:

04 April 2005, 09:07 PM
I really envy the 'near completion" aspect you've got going here Eddie, about the hand, you've made major improvements, some obs... the knuckles shouldn't dip down so much into the fingers..(look at your own hand) the fingers have not got very much taper to them...the fingers are all posed the same...

If you've got a digital camera I'd suggest taking some snaps in the mirror of your hand stroking a basketball or something...

Good luck with the minor details mate:thumbsup: LYW

04 April 2005, 12:38 AM
Great are you almost finished about speedy gonzollas! :P

04 April 2005, 03:27 AM
Absolutely wonderful! I'd want to cuddle up with that beast.

The one thing that came to mind is the horror the little fairy must feel when the beast wakes and stands up and she sees his..uhh...down there (points down). My heart yearns for a loin cloth!! :P Kidding, looks great!

04 April 2005, 07:28 AM
alex.h., Maxter, ||) |V| |^| & koko93s : cheers dudes

the1st_angel : OK sorted the falloff and did alittle bit of light faking, (see below).. will work on pony tail today.

3dhamster, DaddyMack : the hand thing, is starting to really get on my tits, and im sure i will still be working on it a day before the deadline.... will get it fixed one day

OK faked allot of light on this render and i have also fogged up the background alittle more to give it a more magical appeal.

Hope you like

04 April 2005, 02:04 PM
Ho yes friend is very nice...I like a lot:thumbsup: Veryyyy tender:love:

04 April 2005, 02:26 PM
Looking as good as ever :)

The only thing I still don't feel works 100% yet is the glass on the lantern... it needs some more 'oomphf' as it looks a little flat.

Other than that, it's a great image - colours, composition, everything.

04 April 2005, 02:40 PM
:bounce: Unlike McDonalds i am actually loving this pic, even more as i know the person behind soppy bugger!!
Good luck mate, you have my vote.

04 April 2005, 03:43 PM
Yeah I like it too. Well you know my oppinion. It's still the same. Too bad I'm not on the judging panel.

Maybe you'll put some more fur?

04 April 2005, 04:32 PM

04 April 2005, 05:00 PM

btw do you have a name for your monster already? Anyway how about some fireflies in the background to give it a even more magical touch...

04 April 2005, 09:30 PM
Congratulations Eddie! Big time, what an awesome relisation of your goal man:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 09:44 PM
yeah, i like this a lot! youve still got 36 days left!

04 April 2005, 12:52 AM
Now that you are this far into completion, you have the rest of the challenge time to take a break from the image, come back to it, and make perfect it, if you see something that doesn't llok right with a fresh mind. Lucky you, you have enough time to find mistakes and fix them while some of us will finish at the last minute and won't have time to perfect some things. 4 weeks in and already finished, great job:thumbsup: .

04 April 2005, 12:55 AM
So very sweet, and so very well done....make a movie with them.....let it last 3 hours too......Very nice eddieellis......:arteest: ,,,,very mystical and just down right pleasant....:arteest:

04 April 2005, 07:18 AM
the1st_angel : thanks mate, will still be fine tuning on high res version. thanks for you support

handlebar, alexfalchi : thanks allot guy's means allot

JamesMK : Thanks dude, will try to work on lamp, but not sure what to do with it, as if i model a candle/wick and flame then the light wouldn't be emitting as much light into scene, so will need to find a comprimise, either that or slap a specular bloom on it to give more of a glow.

MVP : dude, my long lost friend... thanks for your comments and i know what you mean about making all the difference when you know the person... maybe next time you will enter the comp. it the best way to learn in my opinion.

suk-grigorij : lol... thanks dude.

Wandddo, DaddyMack : what can i say guy's, you too have been a great help on this image so its kinnda down to you guy's its come out so well. thanks for you support

sl1200 : thanks mate

theuni : he he, i kinda like the fact i haven't specified what the beast is yet, leaves it open to your own imagination..... I like the fire fly idea, just alittle unsure weather it would work as i want to keep the focus on th characters and adding too much would just make the image alittle fussy... but will try a test render.

Mordalles : Cheers mate... plenty of time for fine tuning

ace4016 : Such a good idea mate, i have entered another comp on another site which will be finishing in 2 weeks, so am putting my time into that. So on completion i will come back to what i have done and see with fresh eye's.

Virtuoso : cheers mate, thanks for your support.

04 April 2005, 12:59 AM
Woah speedy you already done?
That was quick,... looks very nice indeed. Dont forget to post the preview milestone, that one got me into trouble last time

04 April 2005, 06:09 AM
Looks good dude- nothing to crtique. Hope mine looks as good as yours

04 April 2005, 05:04 PM
And just what did you do to me, ha? I was hoping to watch your progres for a long time. Bad, bad artist. It's like to seat and watch the coolest movie you have seen ever and it just overs 2 time faster than you hoped. Maybe you are sadist or something. Don't do that again.

Still too bad, i'm not on judging panel.

04 April 2005, 07:40 PM
Kanga: cheers dude, will post the milestone nearly the time of deadline, just in case a want to tweek further (wanted to do something else with the lamp)

ibambao: cheers dude, and im sure it will

suk-grigorij : hey mate, not to sure what you meant by that post, but i think it was a good thing !

04 April 2005, 07:45 PM
sweet and lovely piece. congratulation

04 April 2005, 09:49 AM
No matter how much I try, I fail to like the girl as much as I like her 'Servent'.. the pose was a killer from the first day up.

The image is wonderful and everything about it is very, very sweet. It all looks very promising..
I guess all to say now is "Good Luck"! Though you do have a mind to come back to it and check things through later on.
It's all just beautifl,

04 April 2005, 11:18 AM
:applause: really a wondeeful work, especially the concept. Bravo.

just a question... in the last post I saw under the girl fingers a strange white glow, is a problem of the jpeg or low res ?

04 April 2005, 01:09 PM
Ha-ha-ha. Need to work on my english more. It was a good thing. I just tried to say, that I hoped too see your progress for longer time. Cause all this stuff here is about progress I think, not just about final image.

04 April 2005, 01:38 PM
smaddl : thanks mate

BlackDidThis : i know what your saying, i think its coz of the girls hair more than anything.. plus i think it servent looks allot sweeter than the girl

jddog : hey dude, im arriad its a problem with the lighting and shadows, i have tried to get rid of it, but cant seem to do it... might have to be a touch up in photoshop afterwards.

suk-grigorij : well my friend, i pritty much covered all the progress in the first 5 pages of this thread... everything else has just been tweaks and improvements... as you can see im a very fast worker and posting everything i do, would be alittle time consuming, and as this is my first comp i didn't know how long the image would take. :D

04 April 2005, 02:10 PM
the servant is lovely, love his backcreases... the girl is so sweet, like the way she is hugging him... your background have a kind of mystical light to it... nice flowers...
really cute image :bounce: good work...
