03-22-2005, 04:06 PM
The subject is great this time, possible to make no sci-fi stuff !!

Ok...now think think think !

03-23-2005, 08:32 AM
Good luck.

03-23-2005, 01:10 PM
Got 2 ideas and don't know how to choose... :

1-Grand mother and his grandson :

The little kid like to overabused of his poor old grand-mother, she loves him too much and can't resist to serve him, but the pampered child doesn't hesitate to take maximum of profit...

About this one, i don't know if i go with many grandson/grand-daughters or only one, don't know also what kind of action they could do.

2-The hold up :

The scene would be dark, representing a conversation between the criminal (strong posture and face, dark clothes...) and the girl cashier (nice face, more colors, but really scared...)

Still WIP ideas, i'll post some concepts soon

03-23-2005, 01:19 PM
Good to see you here Seb... I prefer the first story... with grand'ma... I think the second way interesting, but more common.
Well, good luck in the challenge

03-23-2005, 01:31 PM
Thanks guys
Lemog : Ouai de la luck j'en ai vraiment besoin :) On va voir si je tiens la barre des 2 semaines deja :D

03-23-2005, 01:38 PM
I prefer first idea too, it´s fresher, I think second isn´t really a master and servant, thought it will be very dramatic.
Anyway, good to see people working

03-23-2005, 01:41 PM
bump!....have fun man!

03-23-2005, 01:49 PM
Thanks guys
Lemog : Ouai de la luck j'en ai vraiment besoin :) On va voir si je tiens la barre des 2 semaines deja :D
2 weeks ??? you can try easily 3 !! hahahahahahaha :scream: allez on se motive...

03-23-2005, 03:24 PM
I too like the first idea....i mean it'll be funny to have a tiny-tot rule over a big fat lady!!!
Best of luck!!

03-23-2005, 03:33 PM
bealobo : yeah i'm currently working on the first project, so much possibilities with the KIDS, i begin to really like the idea :)

Dimitris : What ? You fall of your chair and i haven't posted anything yet...it's very pleasant , thanks and have fun too !:bounce:

Lemog : c clair :scream:

abz : thanks guy, yeah you're right, it will be a fat grandma :)

Okay, i'm still working on the main part, the characters design, looking some comic and photos for inspiration...

Thanks again, your comments are boosting me

03-23-2005, 05:20 PM
Wanted to work on the grandma face primarly to get a better idea of what scene could fit the best to this relatonship...

Here are the face doodles

03-23-2005, 05:26 PM
wow! that´s fast

I love the third one

03-23-2005, 05:28 PM
And love the sketches of the grandmother... Going to keep an Eye on you!

First composition test, i'll work more on the kids and the compo perspective...

c&c are welcome

03-23-2005, 10:39 PM
Sebastien.............happy to see you back for some fun.......

I like your concept, both the drawing and the idea......Lots of potential to be both nice to look at and emotional.....A fun and nice idea......I like the realistic toon approach too.....very nice going........And all the best to you..... Bonnne chance!:arteest:

03-23-2005, 10:50 PM
I like the grandma concept, but mayeb the grnadmas face could be a bit more innocent looking (like Granny from Tweety and Sylvester). Poor grandma.

03-24-2005, 07:44 AM
Virtuoso : Thanks for the kind comments, this contest will be awesome for everybody, happy you're there too :buttrock:

ace4016: yeah i see what you mean, i'm still working on the pose and try to find the best one !

More compo tests coming soon !

03-24-2005, 08:26 AM
Funny to see you change something completely innocent looking into a complete warzone! Very cool!

03-24-2005, 09:05 PM

Another kind of compo i have in mind, only the grandma and his little b.stard...

I think this one fit well to the subject and seem more clear at the first see... tge other was a bit messy..? what do you think guys ?

03-24-2005, 09:12 PM
I think he really is a bastard.....;) .......very nice and funny (a bit sad too) but a real interesting approach......I still like the one with the kids a bit more....but this last one does have alot of potential too........very emotional.......nicely done Sebastien......:arteest:

03-25-2005, 12:46 PM
hey cipher ... i just found this thread ... i like the idea alot, and the characters are great (especially like the kid) ... on the last sketch i prefer the top one .. she is waiting on his response, a definite act of survetude ..

going good and looking forward to some poly's popping soon

03-25-2005, 01:07 PM
i like your second idea very funny . nice exaggeration. i prefer the firts one

03-25-2005, 01:21 PM
I prefer a little bit the last one...but maybe with a sofa more confortable...

...long years of servitude... that's horrible...

Perfect subject man

03-25-2005, 01:23 PM
Wow, nice grand'ma, nice cartooni face, she will be very nice in 3d.. good luck mate

03-25-2005, 02:14 PM
Thanks a lot guys, your comments are precious and help me to point in some directions...
Actually i'm between the 2 compo, i got a preference for the 2nd type but i want to add something... so i think i'm gonna try making a mix of these 2 compositions...

In the foreground the little bastard and his grandma (don't know which actions for the moment...) and in the background 2 or 3 kids making bad things :) I want to make this picture entertaining...many things happen at the time but there's 2 distinct groups...

Lemog : Yè i know for the sofa... don't worry, if i'm gonna make one the bastard's gotta have a sofa tout mou ...and everything for the perfect lazyness ;)

03-25-2005, 04:19 PM
excellent idea !!! hahahaha... I think this can come out als an amazing and so funny work... :applause:

good luck !

Here it is, i think this one fits well to what have in mind and what i really want.

The 3 kids are completly out of the world... The grandmas is completly out of service...

Hope u like it, nw i'm gonna put some colors to them and ENFIN start to model :)

03-25-2005, 06:13 PM
jddog : Thanks man ! I hope so too

03-25-2005, 08:18 PM

03-25-2005, 08:41 PM
Greets cipher, love the concept, it should make for some funny characters...will be watching this space

Painting it to get an idea of colors and mood... So the scene will be quite simple about the visual aspect but as it's cartoon i'll try to put all my work on the character expression/pose...

I begin to work on the 3d grandma face, long time not having a good modeling session...

c&c are welcomes

03-25-2005, 10:15 PM
We see your experience of life Séb... :D

All agree me, the subjet, the toon style... but only one thing, you must certainly try to find something better for the framing... I know, you have time to think to that... and you can start modeling anyway... good work man.

03-25-2005, 10:29 PM
jddog and DaddyMack : Thanks guys, glad you like it ! i will be all my possible to make it in 3D now

Lemog : "We see your experience of life Séb... :D" Really ?? Well i must admit...i'm lazy...but i never made work my grandmother for me...i promise... About the framing you're right but this will come during the character posing yup..

Ooo...I totally forget, thanks Lemog you made me think

non parce qu'apres tu peux te retrouver avec des proces aux fesses avec ce genre de conneries...

03-26-2005, 05:04 PM

non parce qu'apres tu peux te retrouver avec des proces aux fesses avec ce genre de conneries...

huhu, t'as raison, on ne sait jamais.:D

Your have a funny idea and your sketches are very promissing and humoristic. I realy dig your style, so keep it up.
I will keep an eye on this thread.:)

Have fun and good luck .

03-26-2005, 05:13 PM
Looking good. I agree with the framing concern. Setting the scene will make or break this project.

Start of the 3d grandma model... quite happy with it but i'm gonna add details later...

C&C welcomes of course

03-26-2005, 06:39 PM
dude, like in the real life!
Grandmas always get angry when grandchildren are wrecking the place, but once they are all away, they usually miss them.
Hope you can make it good...

03-26-2005, 06:48 PM
ninox : thanks for the kind comments ! I really like yours too !

HammaJamma : Thanks, i think about it yep !

Leionaaad : You're right about that, grandmas are kind of species really strange :D

03-26-2005, 07:05 PM
Haha, really cool Cipher!

Love the grandma, full of character. I'd be worried about the sharp angles but they seem to work.

03-26-2005, 08:36 PM
We have 3D lift off........And it's a cool lift-off......Funny and expressive already.Well done Sebastien.......Like your concept from the start,it's nice to see you get it going into the 3D World...:arteest:

03-27-2005, 02:33 AM
Really nice modeling

03-27-2005, 03:08 AM
He he great stuff man!

Reminds me of Mordillo which I like alot.

I'd get rid of the convex shapes in the face, most rolls of fat and sagging is convex.

Keep em comin!

03-27-2005, 10:45 AM
jmBoekestein : Thanks, yup you're right about the sharp angles, on the eyes they seem good but i'm working on the ones around the mouth, it's not clean at the moment...

Virtuoso : Glad you like it, thanks for your support man :buttrock:

arlutik : thanks ! :)

Kanga : wow i didn't knew this artist, i made a search on google and found pretty funny pics thanks for the info ! I'm working on the face and body...cleaner update should coming ;)

Thanks a lot, more updates coming today :wip:

03-27-2005, 11:48 AM
c'est magnifique!
the character is going on really well. I think the cartoon style matches perfectly, her hair is just hilarious, great!
I just find that the perspective doesn´t look ok, I think it´s too flat, maybe putting the camera at the corner of the room would be best, but anyway you can try that once you´ve got everything modelled.
I should start modelling so... á la prochaine.

Basic proporttions of the body...I made it simple for the moment to be more flexible when i'll make the pose.

03-27-2005, 02:17 PM
The idea's so great, the characters so funny, this is gonna be great!

03-27-2005, 04:51 PM
Lol really nice cartoon style ... your drawing are excellent
Also nice modelling so far !
Keep going man ... you rocks :bounce:

03-27-2005, 05:10 PM

Made the pose, now go to the details (Wrinkles, pleat, accessories...)...

03-27-2005, 05:43 PM
I love how it looks.
have you rigged her with bones and so? or have you posed her directly with modelling tools?
Wich application are you using btw?

03-27-2005, 05:46 PM
Really cool modeling - love that grandma! This is going to be fun to follow, good luck!

...and some wires at this point

03-27-2005, 06:01 PM
Thanks again for your comments, this challenge will be hard to finish because i have some important stuff in May but i will do all my possible ! :wip:

bealobo : i'm using Maya, in fact it's all posed manually with modeling, i just rigged the left arm to have more controls on the fingers...

03-27-2005, 06:08 PM
The model looks great. You seemed to have captured the drawing perfectly.

03-27-2005, 07:06 PM
hey cipher coming along nicely.

the current pose needs some work to read more clearly in my opinion. I made a drawover , hope it helps a little:

03-27-2005, 07:11 PM
Hey cipher...

This is a FANTASTIC concept idea!!! I love your concept drawings too!!! I will be watching this thread!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

03-27-2005, 07:22 PM
Thanks !

Sheep : this is a good review man, i see it now...the arms have posing problems and i'm gonna correct them, thanks a lot for your input

03-27-2005, 07:55 PM

just went thru your thread, awesome concept dude..
I like the grandma model so far.. looking great, I like the pose and the way she's proping up her back.

03-29-2005, 09:18 AM
Very good job so far. I like the way you've done the hair, very original.

A little update where i corrected the pose and added some pleats to the dress... i'm currently working on the textures, i wanted to use zbrush for some parts but i think i should learn it better first...

03-29-2005, 02:50 PM
thanx guys

ninox,it's funny because at first those balls was just to get the proportions of the hairs but yes they're adding a cartoon touch, actually i'm playing with paint fx to see what i could do...

still working :wip:

03-29-2005, 02:58 PM
could you use those balls to "cut" the hairs? Shag has a function like that, a few booleans and you'd be done!

Very cool model btw. Damn it, I'm falling way behind.

03-29-2005, 03:07 PM
hahahaa, nice character, very funny pose!:D

03-29-2005, 03:15 PM
Glad you stuck with the first idea...
Love it..wow...so much imagination in this forum....

Love the short torso grandma...great modeling.
Based on the final(?) sketch... I thinnk it could get very busy... my 2 cents

03-30-2005, 08:56 AM
Thanx again guys, you rock !

jmBoekestein :Hey come on, you're not falling way behind, instead of saying such bu...sh..t, open photoshop and work on your compo man, i look at your work
Hmm this shag function seems interesting but i don't have shag...i have no choice i think i should steal it to someone  ... no seriously... i found a great way to make the hair with fur, just attached furs to the balls and tweak some attributes, it looks cool...

I'll update today if granny wants...

03-30-2005, 09:04 AM
Poor Grandma......I would like to take those kids to the wood shed for a bit......;)

Nice update Sebastien.......Looking fun and well done....:arteest:

03-30-2005, 09:17 AM
Nothing to crit... very funny, I like that...

just one thing... perhaps more drink and food on the plate ? a mountain of food ? very heavy ?

Good contunation Sébastien :)

03-30-2005, 10:40 AM
wow u have done a lot so far... nice modleing and lighting man...keep updating, will b wating for more updates

03-30-2005, 03:16 PM

Ok here is a first test, hair made with fur and only bumpmap for the face, i'm working on colors...

If someone could help me it would be cool, i got some trouble to render fur in layer with maya... actually this image is a kind of fake...let me explain, i use GIJoe in my scene since the beginning but i don't want to use it to render fur cuz it's too much render time and gives a too lighten hairs...I tried to put the fur feedback in a layer and the face in another but this seems not working... so how would you do to render in separate layers properly when you have fur ?
This image is the fusion of 2 renders tweaked in photoshop :) had no other solution for the moment...

Crits and comments a welcome guys!

03-30-2005, 11:01 PM
Virtuoso : Hehe, yeah surely a better place for them, thanx guy !

Lemog : thx a lot...Sure there will be plenty of stuff on the tray , burgers, chips, popcorn, drink, icecream..BEURK:drool:

Overcontrast and Ludal : Thanx guys:thumbsup:

03-30-2005, 11:12 PM
Wild hair to the "maximus"....funny and interesting.....I like it....:arteest:

03-30-2005, 11:15 PM
sorry i dont use maya but i love your grandma (the pic) :scream: see you and

03-30-2005, 11:17 PM
How you tried to render with layers?Use background shader for the faceis a solution. You can turn off the reflactivity, and leave primary visability, cast and receive shadows.I think it will work.

03-30-2005, 11:21 PM
The hair this very well, exchange the bump map and to make deep the wrinkles ;)

03-30-2005, 11:33 PM
it was reale funny to read this thread.
the next cg challenge should be one with funny content ... to see some more like yours

03-31-2005, 01:12 AM
hair looks great....... .....reaally good

03-31-2005, 02:50 AM
Sorry cant help you with the hair gotta solve that one myself :)

Diggin the eyes and expression tho!

Lookin good!

03-31-2005, 01:07 PM
she´s looking great! I suppouse you haven´t put any textures (maybe just bump) but I like her not to have make up, like she doesn´t have time for herself with all these little dictators around.

03-31-2005, 07:07 PM
S.DIMIS : Oh man you're a genius ! I hadn't think about that before, thanx a lot it works well now :bounce:

bealobo : Interesting idea, in fact i'm gonna put here just red tint on the mouth and the rest will be 100% natural , wrinkles of course :D

Virtuoso, alex.h, yeray, rusaru, Neeno, Kanga, thanx so much ! i'm working on the textures and as you know the unwrapping process is a lot of work :banghead: ....... i'll update as soon as possible !

03-31-2005, 07:45 PM
man i love the idea...............the grandma looks reall cool to...cant wait till the body come out

04-01-2005, 10:27 AM

After several tests i got this...honestly i don't really know wher i go with this textures...maybe it's too much realisitic type for this cartoon modeling... tell me what you think, inputs are really welcome on this one as i'm still beginner on texturing, thx a lot !

04-01-2005, 12:50 PM
this is hilarious cipher ... haven't seen the thread for a few days .. love the grandma poses

as far as tex and bump and hair ... can't help ya .. never used maya ... but actually i like the untextured, sphere-head grandma ... gave it a real 50's cartoony look

i'll be lookin out for more

04-01-2005, 07:04 PM
Hey Chiper...

Good job so far.. The UV is good.

The wrinckles have to go. See where the mouth wrinkles on the face and fo forth.
The bump then shows up even stronger on those areas that are "not supposed" to have
I know the lighing is temp, but the main light is pretty strong might want to change it a bit

04-01-2005, 07:31 PM
Yeah good work cipher ! i really like your style man :buttrock:

Looking forward to seeing next update

04-01-2005, 09:34 PM
Hi sebastien.............grandma..............is fun.I like the concept as you know......As for the texture i would ease down the bump about 50%,lower the wrinkles amount and intensity 50 % too.....give it a more subtle or soft touch....make it visible to see but more gentle and not as strong.......................use the lights to soften the scene, less glare.more for the mood........It's just some tweaks...we all got to do them.....I'll be around.looking for more from poor ol' grandma......:arteest:

04-02-2005, 10:16 AM
Either ease down on the bump or go for extremely toony look and reduce the amount of wrinkles or have mor depth variation in them. It'll be better then, more of an effect.

04-02-2005, 11:51 AM
I agree with that, ease the bump a bit and make some wrinkles more visible than others by means of the depth or even the width. These main wrinkles should be at the mouth and the eyes.

04-03-2005, 02:30 PM
awesome stuff, i agree with all the comments about the face texture, right now id say it needs some work to reach the quality of the modelling. Which is certainly top notch, a great base to work from, you just need to keep testing out ways to get the right skin effect. Im still in awe of how you manged to put her in that position and still make her look balanced. Keep it up, i'm really looking forward to your progress.

04-04-2005, 06:27 AM
The wrinkles seem to be placed in all the directions, and to not follow the lines of the face. It would be certainly interesting to model them, relatively deep, but not inevitably also many. The bump makes this aspect a bit granitic, but immediately doesn't make think of wrinkles. There is the impression of a mixture of 2 styles. In any case, your way of the toon family is very very good, I'm sure that next update will be wonderful... bon courage pour la suite

04-04-2005, 07:03 AM
• LOL Looking cool! keep it up!

04-04-2005, 11:45 AM
WOW Thanks alot guys for all the kind comments and critics....YOU rock :bounce:

Okay, i'm really experimenting with the textures right now, i want to really thanks all of you and especially jmBoekestein for having spend some time to point me on the right directon about the bumpmap

I reworked totally on the face texture, now it looks better i think, more soft and more clean wrinkles... i'll send an update today;)

04-04-2005, 09:03 PM

Here's a close up of the face texture...

04-04-2005, 09:07 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5869/5869_1112648865_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5869/5869_1112648865_large.jpg)

And the body almost textured...

In fact i\'m not gonna worrying about texturing anymore until i have my scene fully modeled with environnement and characters...then i\'ll go seriously in it, because actually i don\'t have my final lighting setup so i can\'t really see what is good or bad...

hey cipher...nice and funny concept and not far from reality!.....coming up real well:thumbsup:!....ill follow this!

04-04-2005, 09:19 PM
ha ha ha terrible !!

04-04-2005, 09:26 PM
Hi Sebastien................Heres a good tip....at least I think so......for when you get back into texturing this ol' girl down the road.............

Follow the facial contours.....#1.......Using the "burn" tool with a 16 or so pixel brush diameter paint 4 or 5 vertical lines along the side of her face.......remember to follow the contours of her face........Thes lines have to be soft or light.................................

Now get the "Dodge" tool out....... and with a 25 or 26 pixel brush and paint real fine light spots in-between the cracks......this will raise the tissue a bit.

Now select the "Burn" tool once again............ and with a small 3 pixel brush in diameter and an exposure of about 15% paint a bunch of super tiny criss cross strokes to help create tiny cracks in the skin......Dont over lap these strokes....it has to be soft and gentle, real subtle.....

....................This is a start....a main step in the overall texture work for a very wrinkled person......After this you can give more layers to your lady individually....like around the eyes and around the lips etc.etc...Just ask.....I might be able to help you........Anyways.....keep it coming, and hope to see more as you move forward....really like the concept and fun factor........Poor ol'Granny.....

04-04-2005, 09:46 PM
great ! she is funny and moving .

04-04-2005, 10:33 PM

04-07-2005, 01:34 PM
your grandma's wrinkles are much better now. I like her pose and her brand new dress, we can see that she is suffering, poor old lady. May be you should add some gray hairs to her hair cause right now it is too white.

The lazy guy is well done,
great job so far, keep it up:scream:

04-07-2005, 06:19 PM
melkao : thanks

Lemog : Merci mister, really ? You should take him in holidays with you so ... :D

ninox : Thanx man, yes i'm gonna correct the hair when i'll got the final lighting setup :wip:

I prepare an update with some compo tests, i'll send them soon !

04-08-2005, 04:07 PM
Yeah, like your concept and your modeling ! ha, ha... I'm doubled up with laughter by the face and the expression of your grand'ma ! :) The little bastard empty eyes are good rendered too ! Don't be worry, it works ! Very expressive, so cool and personal cartoon style ! :bounce:

Good job !

04-08-2005, 07:04 PM
hi mister!! :D

Hey, you have some really nice sketches here!! :applause: :applause:

greetings from the south!

Here is what i got so far with all my elements...

The living room need still work, i just put the basic element in shape, need details now (sofa, window, furniture, objects...).

Need also 2 character more and finish the 1st little one...

The lighting is temporary on this one...

Any crits or suggestions are appreciated !

04-10-2005, 12:18 AM
...And thanks a lot for encouragments :applause:

Mr Waka : Thanks man, glad you like it, i'm looking yours too, funny one

Digones : Thank you :)

04-10-2005, 12:20 AM
Alright coming along real nicely Sebastien......Fun and the scene is really come to life and has a nice fun touch....it's fun to follow....keep this up as you are......

He is never going to join the challenge is he?.....Too much work....he has it made in the hammock....;)

Keep it coming...nice and fun....:arteest:

04-10-2005, 11:18 AM
Hehe yeah, he really has to finish some episodes before :)

Thanks mate :buttrock:

04-10-2005, 11:36 AM
thats coming along really well, the characters have turned out great. i know that you're in an early stage of compositon but i think that the sofa takes up too much space, and sought of detracts from the characters, i think making them a bigger focus in the scene would help. thats just my opinion though, im sure you'll manage to develop a good composition anyway. keep it up:thumbsup:

04-11-2005, 11:20 AM
cipher .. this really. really is coming along good .. i love this last post showing the whole thing together ... tons of character with a great premise

one thing though is the hammock ring on the left .. it kinda looks like it's floating in mid-air ... well, just a thought i had

great stuff

04-11-2005, 03:40 PM
Conundrum : Thanks man, yeah you're right about the sofa but i think that this problem will disappear when i'll put the 2 other characters on it... btw, i have another type of composition i'm working on maybe i'll post it today... the grandma and the hammock guy on the right, the sofa behind and the kids disturbed cuz the grandma is in front of the TV...

pigwater : Thanks to you, no the hammock ring is not inthe air, it's just because there's no shadow casted with this kind of lighting...

Ok i'll stop lurking a bit on the net and try to work :) , thanks again ! :buttrock:

04-11-2005, 03:43 PM
lol, very funny, every guy's dream ain't it:D look good man

04-12-2005, 01:05 AM
ha ha , fun story ! and I like how you approach with this cocept , modeling is nice , suit with your style , but I have some point about composition , now the perspective look strange, the wall look like 1 point perspective , but the chair make image look like 2 point perspective , maybe you have to chang angle of camera to make it more dynamic

04-12-2005, 01:29 AM
jajaja:applause: man thats progressing very nice, i like it:thumbsup: :buttrock: :D

04-12-2005, 08:42 PM
wow - what a great entry! Sooo funny!

04-12-2005, 09:05 PM
Hi again cipher, this is really progressing along well:thumbsup: I'd reall mess this place up, especially around where eac character dwells. I think the hammock should have an exposed mount to the roof and more tension in its fabric. I really enjoy the comical sense of style you're using on this piece so far mate  Keep it coming

04-13-2005, 08:39 AM
hehe such a cool concept...

is there a reason the his arm has drooping buldges in it and same as the couch... lol

this is cool

04-13-2005, 05:08 PM
Hi cipher

nice thread yu've got here !And funny characters also !
I'll keep oàn watching your Bidochons:thumbsup:

04-13-2005, 09:25 PM
Looking good Cipher,

I only think the camera angle could be more dramatic, I mean more depth. That would bring out the interplay between the characters out more. Something like tilting the camera a bit or elevating it. Putting something "alive" like one of those kids near the camera or shooting from behind grandma. Just a thought though, it looks like a rough so who knows where you're going with this.

04-13-2005, 09:42 PM
Looking good

I do think you should aim for a closer shot, framing the characters more, and the environment less. And the way the hammock is hanging down needs more sense of weight from the slacker in it.

Neato otherwise, and the old bag has a great pose (it's a little hard to read her face though, don't know what you think about that bit)

04-14-2005, 08:37 AM
Thanks so much guys for your feedbacks, i really appreciate it

dtox : hehe but take care ! the grandma will rebel against us one day

monsitj : Thanks man :bowdown:You're right about that, i'm gonna rework on my compo though.

melkao,gordonm : Thanks for the support !

DaddyMack : Ok no problem that you mess up the place, i give you free tickets for the next time :) ! I thought about making the wall a bit destroyed at the ring place...it will come with texturing

tilite : thanks man, sorry but i didn't well udnerstood what you said about the arm and the couch...:banghead:

spacesnail : haha totally agree with the bidochons also :scream:, thanks mate !

jmBoekestein, JamesMK : Thanks a lot guys, i see what you mean about this f@#$ing camera problem, i'm gonna work on compo today as i don't have course (weeeeee !), i'm planning to do my 2nd compo idea, 2 principal characters at the foreground and the 2 others behind doing bullshits ! i hope it will add more depth and actions, as i said in the beginning i want it to make entertaining, i don't want it to be boring...

SOOO, Updates coming soon ! Thanks again for the encouragments :bounce:

04-25-2005, 04:15 PM
Hey, this is funny!

Love the poses and the expressions. I like granny's clothes also. Just one observation so far: Since the first kid looks really big, and grandma doesn't have any white hair, does't it look that mother is the servant and not grandmother?

04-25-2005, 06:14 PM
Hey, love it, how it is taking shape.
Like it has been said the camara angle needs tweaking. How about a skewed perspective view.
Also , would like to see more on the expression of the characters...good stuff

04-26-2005, 11:45 AM
Thanks guys for your comments

fer3d : As they're long to render i didn't put the hair on this update, you can see them in the previous updates to see how it will be ;)

smallone3d : working on this perspective actually, characters closer to the camera :)

I finally get time to send updates, this week and the future month will be more and more difficult for me in this challenge...

Updates below...

04-27-2005, 08:54 AM
Yeah, I like the "droopy" look, if that was what u where aiming...u have it, if not, ....don't tell us. :)

04-27-2005, 09:53 AM
hey cipher .. cool .. didn't know you were throwing in more characters, but i can see how it will only add to the image ... great kid too ... got that lazy-apathetic-punk thing going already

love it

04-27-2005, 11:15 PM
ah! his expression suits perfectly! congratulations!
your story is so funny ... and a little bitter at the same time, I love it.

04-27-2005, 11:43 PM
Thak you guys and girls, glad you like the head look ! :)

04-28-2005, 02:07 PM
It's been awhile since I last saw this and you're really made some good progress! New kid is great - love his expression of lack of interest. Very good, keep it up!

04-28-2005, 11:46 PM
Yes sebastien......you are doing it in fine fashion and with a fun and interesting appeal.......real fine effort and results are coming along with it......Keep it strong to the end....you are pretty close now.....nice job and,I wish you the best continued results....."Bonne chance"////// :arteest:

04-29-2005, 03:22 AM
hey durand....thats pretty cool. But i think that you need to improve the textures:buttrock:

04-29-2005, 08:41 AM
Very nice modeling, can't wait to see the textures

05-02-2005, 09:40 AM
msteinert, Gunilla, Virtuoso, melkao, arlutik, Thanks a lot for your kind workds guys

Okay, as we only have 17 days left, i must make some decision to finish my scene if i want to send something...

So there will be only 2 kids in this scene... I'm working ont textures seriously today and try to get the maximum....

I really hope i could finish it this week cuz next week i will not be at home but everywhere in France to make school entrance tests...

Thanks again for your great support, updates coming soon !

05-02-2005, 09:42 AM
You do as you want, but you must finish Séb ! et merde pour tes tests, comme on dit chez nous :scream:

05-02-2005, 10:06 AM
You do as you want, but you must finish Séb ! et merde pour tes tests, comme on dit chez nous :scream:
I will do all my possible mate

Now go to work :wip:

05-03-2005, 09:29 AM
 yeah that's really great !!! lol si really wonderful concept and idea + this little bastard is so cool !

05-04-2005, 12:30 AM
Thanks Julien, time is running now, i must work so hard, you see at which hour i send updates... c'est de la folie ces challenges !!

I made a lot of textures today, you could see them in the last render...in some hours...

And i worked on composition research...see updates below...

05-04-2005, 12:30 AM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5869/5869_1115166654_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5869/5869_1115166654_large.jpg)

During the render time in which you could see the last textures work, i made 3 compo test that seems the most interesting for me... my favorite for the moment is the 2nd one and i'm rendering the scene with it now...

So crits and comments are welcome on this ones, point me which one you like more, help is really appreciated !

05-04-2005, 02:52 AM
 well..for me looks better the first one, because it gives a better panoramic and perspective of the escenary

05-04-2005, 03:00 AM
yes, I choose the second too! but I think you have more space on ceiling area ,maybe you can add something to it , texture, neon light or something to add detail! good luck Durand!

05-04-2005, 03:22 AM
I haven't replied here in a while, I'll try to reply mroe often. I think I like the second comp too, can't expalin it really but it just fits the best to me. Your screen caps look better then my renders, lol. Godo luck cipher, and keep going, only a few more days left.

05-04-2005, 04:10 AM
Without doubt... the First for me... the second one was less interesting, because too much ceiling is seen, which is not really interesting, whereas for the first, we see more the ground, which is covered with the objects of the offence :scream:

05-04-2005, 08:53 AM
Thanks a lot for the reaction guys

After some meditation i think i'm gonna go with the 1st one...as you said it's because of the ceiling, this drives me nuts !

What is sure is that it's gonna be a vertical composition... i wanted to ad a lustre but haven't got the time now, i must hurry ...work on textures and lights !

Many updates coming today, the first one in some minutes...

Thanks to stay tuned guys :buttrock:

The 2nd kid texturing...

The lighting isn't very good, just a point light to get the preview... renders become strong now with textures :\

C&C are always welcome !

The lighting setup for the living room...

The environnement is almost finished ...it just need some tweak now.

05-04-2005, 05:51 PM
Now that i'm done with the living room and the most big part of the characters, i'm making a list of the little things i have to do/redo :) :

-Make the rings textures.
-Add food on the ground.
-Rework a bit the grandma texture face.
-Make the 1st kid cloth texture.

Post effect/compositing :

-Add glow to TV.
-Add some fog out of the kitchen :)...

Hope you like the environnement so far, Critics and comments are welcome guys :bounce:

Updates very soon...

A render test with characters...

Next updates will be the objects i'm gonna add...

cya !

05-04-2005, 10:30 PM
this composition is much more dynamic and interesting!
it looks great and the textures are going ok! the poses and expressions fit perfectly,
I like the way you can think on two different relationships of M&S:
It´s fun!

keep up the good job!

05-05-2005, 03:17 AM
after look at your work , I think I'm wrong to choose number 2 , because you do a great job on number 1 and you can add more detail on the floor,! great Job!

05-05-2005, 04:16 AM
Hey Cipher, the new angle works for me... and the lighting is coming together great..You still going for a fourth character?

05-05-2005, 06:47 AM
Thanks for the feedback guy and girls !

bealobo:hehe...it ws not intentional at the start but yes it's a thing i developped, it's a 2-in-1... :D

monsitj : glad you like it in this way

DaddyMack : No fourth character...don't have time... :(

Ok, i must finish this picture maximum tomorrow morning...so it will be very very hot today, i must send my rendering and composite updates...i'm scared

cya and thanks again

Added some objects on the ground and sofa... tried to make it more dynamic...

what do u think ?

05-05-2005, 01:13 PM
what do u think ?... I think it looks great! I really dig the expressions and clutter...Keep it coming..

05-05-2005, 02:10 PM
HI....i like the perspective of "Characters+env....more obkects", i think that it is great.

and very cool the reflection of the tv on floor....good work:thumbsup:

05-05-2005, 02:42 PM
DaddyMack, melkao thank you guys !

I'm in hurry now you can't imagine...not sure if i'll finish it...my first test is saturday...arghhhhhh:banghead: :banghead:

Hope i'll get something tonight

05-06-2005, 06:15 PM
Time to say that i will officialy not finish this challenge... i could finish ti if i had 2 or 3 days more but now it's dead...i'm sending this message from a cybercafe

I'll look at the entries anyway and will continue to encourage some of my favorites because they really deserve it, cya guys and good luck to all !!!

About the image i'll finish it surely later and will post it on CGTalk maybe, i can't leave it like this... :)

05-06-2005, 08:36 PM
Damnit, I thought I'd check in and see how you're doing, and you're in this pickle.

Maybe you can still finish though. :shrug:Well anyway, glad to hear you're going to finish it! And really like the progress here!

05-06-2005, 08:57 PM
Geez cipher, didn't you get a cgartist rule book when you started...
It's like...rule number 1... "A CGartist must not have a life outside of their projects"

It's a shame you wont be able to evolve the image any further for the comp... I feel for you, you put in some great hours there mate... I hope you're still going to submit what you have as the final for the comp.. Good luck with the tests..

May the force be with you

05-06-2005, 09:11 PM
cipher .. it's a shame about the sudden time loss thing .. but this piece is has turned out really great .. so close to to being finished too .. it IS a shame ...

the clutter really boosted the scene up a notch .. and all in all i think it's one of the best in terms of concept and projecting that idea

will keep lookin in to see how this turns out

05-06-2005, 10:36 PM
Sebastien........Common finish....You have done too much not too......Just cut out some extras you had planned......The image will still have the meaning and idea you have come up with, and the work you have already shown will get it's justice......You can finish this......then later add details and you're overall original idea and take this to the gallery.......

.......I think you are quite close, and with extra effort you can do it.......We can cross that finishline together in the last hour........I'll be here, hoping for more.....Best of luck to you.......:arteest:
