03-22-2005, 09:53 AM
Mack Chater has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=5826)

Latest Update: Final Image: This Enchanted Cage
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1116470565_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1116470565_large.jpg)

Here it is then, the final image! Finally!

This Enchanted Cage : Love is the eternal master/slave relationship. A beautiful creature, Love keeps us alive, it feeds us, it inspires us, yet it will alwyas remain our master. Love is beautiful, yet can be overwhelming, sometimes confining. We are helpless, when in its grasp, yet contented and even accepting. Imprisoned, but a willing slave, as we all are. To love.

Thanks for all the amazing response, the crits have been super helpful. There is some amazing work in this contest, some of the best digital art I've seen.

Good luck to all those who've participated, and thanks agin for the responses and feedback

03-22-2005, 10:02 AM
welcome and good luck

03-22-2005, 11:06 AM
Thanks for the kind words! Although I have NO idea as to what my entry may be!

Time for some brainstorming i think!

Good luck to yourself as well!!

Nice to see you in the competition mate. The competition is heating up already. Looking forward to see what wonders you cook up for us this time.

This was the first sketch I did, just really playing with shapes, nothing final!

All I know is that the idea is somethign to do with love.

03-23-2005, 10:16 AM

This was done soon after the initial sketch. I was quite happy with the pose, so I though I'd just tidy it up a bit. This helped me solidify the idea in my head.

This is more of the same, but I\\\'ve added the other elements. Now is the fun stage, critiques!

All are welcome!

03-23-2005, 10:20 AM
Fantastic concept...............love it.

Will keep looking at this one. Very cool.........can't wait to see this develop.

Good luck

03-23-2005, 10:34 AM
Fab! I love it, with the casual playfulness of the woman! I can't quite make out if it's a male or female in the cage...

03-23-2005, 10:38 AM
Thanks Poshspice. Its supposed to be a male, its just my scribbly sketches, done at 11:00pm last night!I'm going to work on a tighter sketch, to try and get the whole composition clearer in my head!
Hell, maybe even throw some colour in!

03-23-2005, 02:24 PM
Awesome sketch! I'm watching :)

03-23-2005, 02:47 PM

Here is an update, just playing with colours and textures. Basically a mood piece, more testing out the compositon really.

Enough waffling!

03-23-2005, 02:53 PM
That is outstanding..........really pushing on, now. I'll have to pull my finger out.

This is looking really promising.

I see this as a very moody piece.

03-23-2005, 03:21 PM

really impressive
I like it ... a lot
keep up the good work

03-23-2005, 03:27 PM
love the concept. Make sure the cage stands out a little more in future versions, I didn't noticed it untill I saw your last lineart image. Maybe a light beam or something or a reflecting cage?

03-23-2005, 03:40 PM
Good beginning very good style, good luck

03-23-2005, 03:45 PM
Thanks for the replies!

Garma: Yeah, I'd noticed that as well! That colour comp was more a focus on the girl (who may yet change!). The little bit of light falling on the cage was a quick afterthought, so people could still see that there was something there!!

Now, back to refining the pose!.....Must research sexy poses!

03-23-2005, 04:35 PM
cool concept... I"m loving your drawing style, too. Lots of interesting detail. Good luck in the challenge!

03-23-2005, 05:11 PM
Nice work so far, Mack! They red beneath the woman is really disturbing! But I really agree with Garma, it might really help for there to be some lighter & more saturated colors on/in the cage so it's easy to tell that there's a servant in addition to the master... er, mistress.

Good luck with it!

03-23-2005, 05:18 PM
Oh yeah its on! great concept great atmosphere great... well everything

03-23-2005, 05:31 PM
Thanks for the responses! I'm working on a refined colour comp, one that should introduce the cage and the captive. Also trying to finalise a better, more seductive pose for the mistress!

03-23-2005, 05:38 PM
yeh can't wait to see more progress!

03-23-2005, 06:19 PM
pretty nice sketches as well as the concept:).maybe u wanna re work alil bit on her legs, the pose is nice but i think she spreaded her legs alil too much.i'm not sure if i see this right but is she suppose to look at the cage or somewhere else?
i love the composition and the way u played around with the mood ..keep this rocking~!:buttrock:

03-24-2005, 12:23 PM
Come on, where's the next stage.....i'm eager for an update!

03-24-2005, 12:29 PM
I'm working on it now!! I've got a new idea for the pose, which I'm gonna draw up this afternoon, and hopefully post it.

Thanks for the push though!

03-24-2005, 12:35 PM
ooOOooH... lovely concept...

is it a little man in the cage?

03-24-2005, 12:38 PM
Yes, its a little bloke in the cage. Not a monkey! After I've finished a tighter concept, I'll write up a brief synopsis/description of my idea.

I need to get the whole cage bit clearer in the concept. I don't want the piece to become too confusing.

03-24-2005, 12:54 PM
That's a beautifuly mood lit piece Mack. love the composition as well. Can't wait to see the detail on the throne, or is that how you are going to leave it so the figure is more prominent ?
Can't wait to see what you do next.
Good luck with the challenge.

03-24-2005, 02:22 PM
Very cool concept and great sketch. I love the atmosphere. But I think the cage is to small or at least we should see more creature in it's the second caracter of the scene and I have difficulties seeing it. Maybe it wiil fixed in your next updates.

03-24-2005, 04:09 PM
good start, and fast!!

03-24-2005, 04:15 PM
Still here! Thanks for the response and encouragement. I'm at work at the moment, but I'm gonna try and get a new sketch up before I go home!

03-24-2005, 04:31 PM
Get busy with those crayons...........time is running out.

go go go

03-24-2005, 04:55 PM
Yknow i noticed something, your sketch looks better than many of the finished works ive seen, i think that says alot about its potential . waiting for more:thumbsup:

03-24-2005, 05:28 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1111685289_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1111685289_large.jpg)

Finally an update! Here's a better, more refined version of the mysterious lady. Still playing around with hands, and what she may or maynot be holding. For example, here she's reaching toward the cage, but I'm going to do a version where she's actually holding the cage door open, the figure inside, not wanting to escape his beautiful cage! H(pretentious, moi?....I hope not!)

03-24-2005, 05:36 PM
great drawing!!

03-24-2005, 05:44 PM
Love the whole cage and throne idea coming on, keep it up dude

03-24-2005, 05:58 PM
This work is really looking like it is a good contender..your skill is apparent from the quick work you've done here..
hope to see better stuff coming up for sure..
hm,, the creature in the cage..seems chimpish..not like the way a man would be, you could truly add to the scene in my opinion, if you bring a bit of dynamism to the man, trying to please in some way..to be in contrast to the calm /unconcerned look of the mistress,

03-24-2005, 09:34 PM
Thanks chaps! I'm gonna work into the whole cage/slave area over the next few days. Spent a bit too much time on the girl for now! I shall update as soon as I can!

03-25-2005, 12:50 AM
Can't wait to see the next post.

Looks like a great concept to me.

03-25-2005, 11:41 PM
Wow, great update

I just was testing that pose myself.
I donīt know maybe it is just a silly thing but by closing her lips she will look more concentrated, like sheīs thinking something (to me, of course), maybe she will loose a little this sensual feeling? I donīt know. But she will win on expression.
What do you think?

03-28-2005, 05:35 PM
Great art!
Keep this level up!
I like the cat face on the throne!

03-28-2005, 05:37 PM
Great Art, I really like the cat face on the throne!

Keep this level up!

03-28-2005, 06:21 PM
I like this pose a lot better than the old one, you're doing a great job!

03-28-2005, 07:27 PM
Great stuff........very impressive.

I look forward to seeing that detailed throne drawn up.

03-28-2005, 07:34 PM
I really love the initial pose more..her laidback posture gave that much more ooomph to the imagery. it looks like as if shes one born of royal snob blood, and used to controlling people...wouldn't even expect it to be anything but the correct way of things. She looks masterly, in my opinion..something that the new pose doesn't seemingly hit at..

one more thing..congrats on going at a good pace here itself..when most, myself incl. are conceptualising. :D. this is looking so good now..it surely is in the forefront of this challenge..

03-29-2005, 09:08 AM
Heh! This new pose is certainly more elegant, but there was something about the first one I really liked... ooh, I'm confused now! Er... I think keeping her legs ...ehem... together is a good idea. It makes her more ladylike, and here you've got to keep her 'authority'. Me likee! :)

03-29-2005, 09:23 AM
Thanks for the replies! I'm confused now myself! The initial idea for the pose was to have her seem more laid back, or detached from her subject, but as I worked into the concept, thought about it more, I came to realise that they are both the master and the servant, a constant cycle of infatuation, since the idea is based aound the notion of love. The balance between the two involved always seems to constantly shift, meaning the master and servant relationship switches. That's why I changed her pose. I was tying to make her seem more engaged with her subject! I hope I haven't bored anyone to death with the explanation, I just thought I'd better explain the concept, since I hadn't done previously.

Apologies again if I turned all art school. I definately have taken my flouncy shirt and beret off now!

03-29-2005, 10:49 AM
Well said........good concept..........getting a bit deeeeeep!

Cool stuff

03-29-2005, 03:01 PM
Very excellent work here Mack. I see two very distinctly different images you have here. Both have merit although I am very curious to see where you go with your more refined notions of involvement. I be watching, gl.

03-30-2005, 01:45 AM
Hiya Mack, your idea is coming along nicely, I do like the colour version :)

03-30-2005, 01:52 AM
Fantastic work Mack, I like the new sketch of the woman much better. the previous one was a little too masculine in posture.

03-30-2005, 04:16 PM

At last an update! Yes it's true, my hands still work!

This is an idea for the 'Love Mistress', it took about 20 mins in photoshop. Very rough, as I'm still not convinced by the tones. Maybe a little too melancholy. Let me know what you think.

I've quickly pasted it onto the first colour concept, so the pose isn't right, but it was just to see if it looked any good!

03-30-2005, 04:18 PM

Here's the image pasted onto the first colour comp. Slightly warmed the tones a little, as it didn't sit right. I'm going to redraw the pose anyway, but let me know how its looking! Cheers!

03-30-2005, 04:38 PM
Ooooh! It looks good alright. I know it's early, but you can tell already this will be a very good bit of work. She's very good looking..........I'd live in that cage if it meant every now and then i'd get to...........well you know!

Good work......looking forward to seeing more updates

03-30-2005, 04:39 PM
She's looking great. Like the skintone and the dress is working brilliantly, very satiny. Something special going on here... :)

03-30-2005, 04:47 PM
She reminds me of cruela deville. I like this a lot! The lighting in this composition is nice too! Not sure if you intend on fixing this, but the lighting on the slave I think needs to be a little bit brighter cause I have a hard time seeing her. :) Great work!

03-30-2005, 05:05 PM
Hi. Very nice sketch. I mean it. VERY NICE SKETCH.

Hm.?! I gues we will see alot of characters sitting in the similar pose duiring this chalenge.
I would try somthing more original if I were on your place. No offence. I just think that there will be many pictures similar to yours. The gauys from CGNetworks know what the say when trying to make us think original.

Anyway, the best of LUCK for you. Don't be mad on me. Bye for now.

03-30-2005, 06:52 PM
it's really good point of view....

the character seems really dominant...and the enviroment is in the ottoman...(a kind of turkish style...)
good luck

03-30-2005, 06:59 PM
Looking good I like your concepts.

03-30-2005, 08:09 PM
looking really good..real good.. this makes sucha neat image, and your updates just aim towards the cool visual you've made up in your head..it's good,

03-30-2005, 08:46 PM
great updates!
I donīt like too much the make up, but I thinkīs thatīs personal.

03-31-2005, 02:33 AM
fill the upper right corner with something and the pic will rule even more

03-31-2005, 07:57 AM
Thanks for the replies chaps! I'm still working on refining the pose/composition, which I NEED to get finalised this week, if I want to finish it! The skin tones and everything are still just WIP, nothing is definite yet!

I guessed there would be quite a few entries that would have similar poses, but that is how I saw the sketch in my head, so I guess I'm stuck with it for now!:) Hopefully, when I've finished the piece(!) it will still look good!

03-31-2005, 12:21 PM
Where's this new update.........?

03-31-2005, 01:51 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112277115_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112277115_large.jpg)

Very rough idea/sketch for possibly the stand on which the cage is attached. I may make it float, add to the ethereal possibilities for the piece. Maybe not!

03-31-2005, 01:55 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112277307_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112277307_large.jpg)

I redrew the head from yesterday, trying to make it look less agressive! I want quite an art nouveau type of feel to the piece, hopefully this\'ll work! Maybe not.

Let me know what you guys think! Cheers

03-31-2005, 02:07 PM
thats great,nice colour pallet also.

03-31-2005, 04:32 PM
Great start and cool concept! I like your lighting especialy.

Only crit would be that I've noticed that all of your ellipses are lacking perspective for example, all of the bird cage rings appear flat. Great if thats what your after but maybe somthing to think about. Cheers - jez

04-03-2005, 12:35 AM
i prefer the first head you've done, this one is a bit asymetric, and don't have the power of darkness of the first one!

04-04-2005, 10:45 AM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112611514_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112611514_large.jpg)

Here is the final concept/line art. I will do a neater version (more for me to work from, than anything else) which I will post as soon as! I've decided to hang the cage from the 'ether' surrounding the chair, more mysterious! And I am contemplating having a lantern in the upper right to balance the image somewhat. I was actually thinking of making the character in the cage a female, but it felt a little to 'Boris' like to me!

Let me know what you think! Cheers!

04-04-2005, 10:46 AM
very nice and clear line art, i wait the begin of the colorization

04-04-2005, 10:50 AM
well ill be damn, something sure changed since the last time i was here and for the better i must say:thumbsup:

04-04-2005, 12:09 PM
Very nice, like mentioned before, can't wait for this to develop more..........looking superb.

ps the lantern is a very good idea.

04-04-2005, 12:14 PM

You hold a good concept, I want to see the continuation, good

04-04-2005, 12:40 PM
Yeah, defo! This pose is much more natural, and the line looks fab!

04-04-2005, 12:56 PM
Thanks for the replies! I'm working on another colour mock up, similar to what I did earlier. This is still all WIP, just trying to find my colours! I'll post it as soon as I've knocked it up!

Cheers for now.

04-05-2005, 12:05 AM
I like it. Is the scene going to be backlit, I'm guessing....?

04-05-2005, 02:08 PM

YES YES YES I do like this version :applause:

04-05-2005, 04:25 PM
Now you're cookin! great pose!

04-05-2005, 08:40 PM
Thanks for the replies chaps! I'm happy I've got a more final looking image to work from. I'm just in the process of sorting out the pose/head of the figure inside the cage. SO I'll post that as soon as! Then it'll just be a case of redrawing each element and scanning it in, then its time to start the colouring! Bugger!

04-06-2005, 11:49 AM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112788185_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/5826/5826_1112788185_large.jpg)

Finally got round to drawing up the caged one. Not sure which way to face him. I think I like the left hand side image the best. Looks more 'longing'!

See what you think.

04-06-2005, 12:22 PM
Very cool sketches

I like the let one as well, seems to have more of a longing feel to it as well as he has his back turned towards her looking over his shoulder, which can also be interpreted as he is not happy being there.

Great work

Good luck

04-06-2005, 01:11 PM
Left, man, left! That's the one without a doubt.........that's great.

Stride on!

04-06-2005, 03:55 PM
I agree, the left one with the back turned works better overall... except...

I really find the tilt of the head on the right one more appealing for some reason that I'm going to find hard to put intot words. But I'll try anyhow: Maybe I'm thinking of a dog or a bird, the way they cock their head to one side as if asking a question or curious about something, and just the way he's looking back over his shoulder, the head facing a different direction than the body, implies some sort of query or curiousity. So perhaps it might be subtly fitting to tilt the left image's head a few degrees clockwise.

Boy, can I be any more picky!? :-) Anyhow, love the guy, he's fantastic, great job on the lighting and wrinkles and a really appealing face too. Good work!

04-06-2005, 08:21 PM
Thanks for the replies people!

dloots: Thanks! I'm trying to make the whole 'longing' theme work for both the characters involved.

Paul: Cheers fella...encouraging as always. Can't wait to see more of the lava d'jinn!

Walrus: Thanks man. Picky? No, observant and very helpful, more like! I understand what you're saying with the right hand pose, but I think I'm going to go with your suggestion of slightly tilting the left hand one's head. It was so obvious after you pointed it out. Cheers again!

Thanks again

04-07-2005, 08:35 AM
cool! you got some nice lineart going on!
Like the left one better too!

04-07-2005, 02:47 PM
agree with goro and others, left is better, right one looks like heīs there kind of comfortable, like in a shelter.

04-07-2005, 03:46 PM
I love this piece. OK, maybe I'll just go start over now...

Keep up the bitchin work dude.

my M/S thread:

04-09-2005, 10:46 AM
Left one dude  :applause:

04-11-2005, 08:11 AM
Where's this update???

I need to see more!

04-11-2005, 10:55 AM
great progress mack.. loving it all..the guys looking perfect to..heres cheers to you,

wats with the urban clothes..kinda mixin with the clothing on the femme.... your imagery seems to be like depicting a storyline itself, but the urb/medeival-oriental clash look, donno if its gellin well.
heres to your next update

04-11-2005, 12:44 PM
Thanks for the push chaps! I've just scanned in all the final, FINAL line work for each of the characters. So now I have NO excuse to do any painting! (just hope my machine will handle the res of the final painting!)
Omengeorge: I'm going to change the guy's threads in the final painting (don't know what to yet, maybe try and do something servant like!?) I wasn't happy with the design, looks like I've given him basketball boots! Definately NOT what I had in mind!

Chaeers again everyone

I shall post soon.....!
ps just had a look at the EpIII art book...awesome!

Hello! Yes I am still alive and in the contest! I apologise for not posting or replying to anyone's post, but I've been stupidly busy at work and at home! (no excuses, I know!). Anyway, I've adjusted the pose of the woman, this feels more 'relaxed' than the other one. And as you can see I've started to paint the satin sheet shees sitting on. Next time though, I'll choose something a little less time consuming to paint!! :) Cheers for now!

04-19-2005, 06:28 PM
Looks excellent. I thought it had been a while.

The saturn sheets looks spot on. Time consuming...tell me about it..........it's worth it in the end, because that extra effort really shows in the final piece.

Look forward to more, if it's anything like the sheet, it's going to be a knockout!

04-19-2005, 10:23 PM
Wow. This looks fantastic. The sheet is just great! Can't wait to see more. Cheers mate!

itīs funny how you see these things from an expert hand and think... looks easy to do... lol

Thanks for the replies! I apologise for not replying sooner, but I'm v. busy at work, and the flaming satin is taking an AGE to paint! I'm aiming to get the sheet fully finished over the next few days, so I'll post that once its done.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Yes, I am still in the competition! Here is some detail shots of the satin! I am going to finish the whole image, I know myself I've been labouring possibly too much detail in this cloth, but I really wanted to get it right! I apologise for not posting anything sooner, or maybe commenting on people's threads, as this time the competition is really amazing, but I'm back in gear now, so I will take a more active role!

Any crits will be much appreciated. Hope you like!!

05-05-2005, 09:08 AM
Hey Mack i hope you can keep the sense of mood from your concept painting, the one in the green dress. If you can it'll be a winner mate, least I think so anyway. Your level of detail is simply amazing bro. If the cloths that good, cant wait to see the lady!! Good luck

05-05-2005, 09:23 AM
Nice to see this taking shape.....looks stunning. I thought I was a detail junkie! Like 'demonicoz' wrote, if the woman gets the same treatment...this will be a winning piece, for sure.

Now get working....not long left

At last, I've put together a final comp, so people can see just what the hell I'm trying to do!! I'm not just painting a woman sitting on some shiny satin!

Hope you like, muchos crits are welcome!

05-11-2005, 12:25 AM
finish it, Please, i have to see where your going with this image.

05-11-2005, 08:18 AM
Not really an update, more of an extra little comment about the progress:

I've decided to change the womans face slightly. Now that I've put this comp together, I don't think she'd looking at the man enough. (not without moving the cage closer to her, which would obscure her somewhat.)

I hope to post again tomorrow, when I've finished the cage and made a crack at the background and floor! See ya soon!

choptider: I need to know where I'm going with it as well! Thanks for the push!

Very cool work.....hurry up and finish this (not much time) One of the pieces in this contest that have too much potential not to be finished.

Good stuff

Hello again! This is an update to the previous post, where I've now finished the cage. (although I've since changed the colour of the bars to a more rusty gold colour). As you can see I've also dropped some shades/highlights onto the satin as it was starting to look a bit flat. Also added a newer version of the floor texture. This is really a cross between coloring WIP and final colouring, I'll change the milestone setting next time!

Any and all crits will be much appreciated!
Cheers for now!

05-12-2005, 05:57 PM

Cor BLeeMiNG BLiMeY!!

damn good choice of words that

terrific rendering

05-12-2005, 11:01 PM
Many, many thanks to all the replies, its always good to hear when people like your work (being a big soft emotional artist type!)

I am about to 'get stuck into' the woman! Although I thought I'd better make a start on the two main figures as THERE'S NOT MUCH TIME LEFT!

I knew I should have invented some kind of time distorting thingamybob...instead of drawing pictures of nekkid girls!

Cheers again

05-12-2005, 11:21 PM
Mack, or should I say MackAttack...bet you never heard that one before. haha.

Love your pic dude. Man, It's just tooo much how you've handled the silk, very well done. Time is runing out if you need to put the same effort into the remaining sections.

Drawing nakid girls is why we all went to art school, right? Yeah baby! :p

Great work, good luck!

Here's a quick update before I go blind staring at the screen! Almost had a nightmare for a second, because I'd flattened and resized the bloke for the cage..THEN SAVED OVER IT!! Almost in tears! Managed to find it again though, so there was no reason to smash my computer and gouge my eyes out!

Anyway... here it is

Cameron, I may have to change my username to mackattack, soundds a bit cooler than mack72!!

05-13-2005, 08:14 AM
Wonderful stuff........really nice rendering.

Keep it up, and you'll have a stunning looking bit of illustration, here.

Well done.

Evening all! This is just a mini update. Made further progresswith the caged fella. I'm probably going to tweak the levels abit when it comes to the final image, but I thought I'd drop this one in just to give you guys an idea of what's going on!

Any and all crits are supremely welcome. Yes I know there's only a couple of days left. Yes I know I still have to paint the woman! PLease don't make me any more stressed than I already am!! Cheers

05-15-2005, 10:44 PM
Looks very cool....love it. It's a well executed piece so far....please finish it.

Nice work

Another day, another update! This now falls into the final colouring stage. Although I have to work on each element seperately, so as not to slow down my computer too much!

As you can see I'v finally started to paint the girl. I'll have the head and the hair 'n' stuff done soon, which I'll post. Then its just level tweaks, making sure the eyelines work, etc. No problems!!?

Thanks for all the input and crits, they've been greatly appreciated. I've really enjoyed taking part in this, my first proper contest, and I look forward to the next and the next.....

Thanks again and good luck to everyone else.

BTW, any last suggestions are supremely welcome!

05-16-2005, 10:56 PM
my suggestion? hurry up!!!:scream: ... your piece is awesome dude, love the hot chic, the skin tones fabulous, the sheets, textures, you got it dude. You really got it.

05-17-2005, 10:03 AM
Oooooooh! looking nice. Glad to see you pushing forward with your lady.

Whuupaaa! That's the sound of a whip....get a move on.

Looking great.

05-17-2005, 10:40 AM
Hey Mack, not been here in a while, but caught a glimpse at your pic and had to say..WOW! i know you will finish this for the final so good luck and see you on the other side.
T. :applause:

05-17-2005, 11:38 AM
Good style, but the perspective is rather odd. I can't figure out whether the cage is meant to be in front of or behind the woman- maybe you should introduce some sort of element to help solidify this?

Having said this, your painting skills are excellent, although the subject matter isn't one I particularly like. Your handling of skin tones is beautiful though. Hope to see you finish....

05-17-2005, 11:50 AM
The skin tones and the sheet texture are really well done. Lovely details. Hope you finish in time and Best of Luck!

05-17-2005, 11:55 AM
Really promising!!! Be careful with the ded line of the contest. It's nire. Hope that you will make it!!!
I like the composition and the smooth atmosphere in the image. Gread work, man!
All the best with the judging.

05-17-2005, 12:12 PM
Wow damn...looks almost photoreal. Your details are amazing!
I hope you make it in time!

Good luck m@e!

05-17-2005, 01:14 PM
Wow! Thanks for the replies! I gues I should have posted more of the composition earlier! (If it hadn't been for that pesky satin!):scream:

As we speak I am lighting a fire under my arse to make sure I get the peice finished!

Arkinet,Paul D, Metrini, Velinov, Goro, Papaerclip and Tariq12 Thankyou kindly and YES I am getting a move on!

Paperclip: Good point about the perspective, and when I (finally) finish the woman's face I think you should be able to better see where each element lies within the composition.

Although, if its still confusing, I'll have another look at the image as a whole and maybe drop some shadows in to help the forms/placement.

All in all thanks again and Good Luck to everyone in getting their repspective pieces finished.

See you on the other side.

05-17-2005, 01:34 PM
great pic with an excellent concept. The beginning of the painting of the woman body is great (the feet is amazing). The texture of the satin is very great, very realistic, good work, i hope you can finish before the end

This is just a quick update, as I'm working my nuts off to get this finished. I've finished the woman's body and the satin(FINALLY!!) and after a couple of suggestions yesterday, I've moved the cage closer, and dropped a shadow on her knee, to let the viewer know just who is where within the scene!

Anyhoo, better get back to painting!! MUST FINISH IT!!

05-18-2005, 02:04 PM
Very cool image. The rendering is insane.......great job.

Looks like you're going to get finished.

Well done.

You cannot imagine how much i can relate to your picture. I guess i have lived through this situation, and the woman in your picture even looks exactly like the woman that made me suffer!!!

Thanks for the replies people! I'm glad you liked the piece, it has inspired me to want to finish more work off!

nemoo: I apologise if the image brought back any painful memories, but thanks, beacuse even if the image only affects one person in a truly emotive way, I know I've managed to convey something with it!

Thanks again, and now the hardest part....the wait for the results!
