This is one of my Characters in the Scene, it´s called LOAR. A great cyborg (half human half mashine) with strong emotions, the result of genetic engeniering in the future.

Here is a rip from the story i´m working on...

... It is civil War on Minakata.

The Fortress of King Tomonaga is taken and a heavy Battle going on in the royal throne room.

The King is woundet and only his few Servants can vindicate him from the assailants.

Loar, Tomec, & Kira are in place to protect her Master until the last breath.

Ok that´s 4 today, stay tuned!

Hi Folks,

Ok ok, i knew that is not a very impressing update, I hope you like it nevertheless ;)

Sorry, I was not very busy today on challengework. These are the Fingers from Loar, they are not finished yet. I have a little trouble to figure out to make them spread later... hmmm i was not very good in mechanics, so pleasy vorgive me that simple version.

Thanks a lot friend 4 staying tuned on this thread & also 4 the great feedback in here.

I need some sleep now, see u tomorrow ;)

good look.

04 April 2005, 04:35 AM
Nice update, dunno why You call it not impressing :)
Just love those fingers, looks really great.
Well, if i understood Your problem right, then You can make some more of the movable stuff (where the joint of the finger and the wrist is) on the wrist to make the fingers split.

04 April 2005, 06:14 AM
Nice robot here ! It should be really cool !

04 April 2005, 02:21 PM (

Short update on the throne Room, just adding some more details :)

Hope yo like it.

04 April 2005, 03:33 PM
Wow some amazing work, love the grand feel of the throne room.

04 April 2005, 09:50 PM
Vampeta ,
Your doing some good work here, I really like the architecture of the throne room. Are you going to have some kind of doors in the back or side areas? Look forward to what you do here.

04 April 2005, 10:11 PM
Hi alex...coming along well......I was wondering something: When you get things done for the most part......will you give some wear and tear, some bumps and scratches, some tweaks to the mesh to make things look more used and worn.....or is this going to be a more clean and has'nt been used look.....

Either way, nice updates, and looking forward to your next moves.....Until then best to you...:arteest:

04 April 2005, 10:19 PM (

I was a not satisfied with the body of KIRA, my main character and so i thought i can give her a whole new body... 4 free :)

Thanks 4 qouting friends!! stay tuned!

04 April 2005, 10:30 PM
I was wondering something: When you get things done for the most part......will you give some wear and tear, some bumps and scratches, some tweaks to the mesh to make things look more used and worn.....or is this going to be a more clean and has'nt been used look.....

Hi Michael, of course they will be become a used look, but more like painted... hmm do you know the "ghost of the shell" movies?! Something in that style... very manga like.

Thanks 4 viewing & quoting.:bounce:

P.s: Brute S.Maximus head looks AWESOME :) :bounce::bounce::bounce: keep on Modeling.
See Ya

04 April 2005, 10:51 PM
hi ....the robot looks very cool!...the thrown room is nicely done!....hmm still need some teaking on kira's progress:)!

04 April 2005, 08:09 AM
Vampeta ,
Are you going to have some kind of doors in the back or side areas?

Hi! Possible.... this throne room will be heavy damaged, so that there is possible no escape chance 4 the master and his servants. There will be a great whole in the ceiling and one of the columns will be broken and placed over the ground of the room... ore something in that way :)

Nevermind, thanks a lot 4 the feedback! see ya!

04 April 2005, 08:58 AM
Hi Vampeta !

The throne room is superb and the designs are great !:buttrock:
I think the girl's body needs tweaking (the breasts not enough rounded) but I assume this is a WIP...

Cya !:)

04 April 2005, 10:58 PM (

Gnnnkrrrg... hmpf... bäh!! I cant´t her the clothes on in the way that i want. I think the best way is let she let run naked through my picture ;)

Nevermind. that´s my update 4 today. I fixed some problems on proportions and some corners on her breasts (thanks 4 the hint Norman, i hope it looks a bit rounder now)

Hope you like it, comments are most welcome!

See Ya

04 April 2005, 06:32 PM (

Jep! Dayjob is over now back to the Challenge :)

This evening i will went to the Armor of Kira. The version i posted yesterday was not so great, so i modeled it over. I think this is a better start. (took some references from "Yukito Kishiro" :)

Stay tuned

04 April 2005, 06:41 PM
Great looking model so far! Only thing, it seems to me her back is to thin in the area just under the armpits. Instead of going ( ) for the back it should be a bit more \ / shaped - other than that I can't see any flaws. I love the shoes - would get me a pai tomorrow if they where for sale

04 April 2005, 06:45 PM
Nice Alexander! I love the environment you created!
Keep it up!!

04 April 2005, 07:11 PM

See u on my next post,

04 April 2005, 04:54 AM
Hey Alex, nice model (as allways).
But there are some crits that i want to say, are the bumpy lines at the top of her legs supposed to be there? And i'm kinda missing her belly button.
Good luck with Your work mate!

04 April 2005, 05:01 AM
maybe that are some kind of folds....or just an error in that early stage:D

btw she'll gonna be ass-kicking:twisted:

04 April 2005, 05:35 AM

04 April 2005, 12:10 PM
Greetings Vampeta!

I haven't looked at this challange and your entry in particular much yet. But now that I did, all I can say is... carp@#!%$! is there something in CG you can't do? Only this time there is now some more competition... the last "Space Opera Challange" was a sure homerun for you ;)

Knowing your girlfriend and her sister even better I know that you have good reference running around and this is obviously reflected in your sketch-drawings and WIPs sofar ;-)

Regarding your recently posted WIP-images and ideas to stick with a Manga-style of look, I am eagerly looking forward to your further postings. This latex-stuff is sooooo sweeeeet! Your "Master and Servant"-thread is in my bookmarks now and I will surely check it out on a daily basis.

I have some progress on the latex-suit.

The are a few errors on some bodyparts (arms, bizeps, etc..)

Hope you like it, see ya!

04 April 2005, 04:33 PM
more angles.. sweet ;p

I would make the waist a bit more thicker.. right now too much of a barbie doll appearance.
the buttocks towards the center look a bit square

hope I could help..

04 April 2005, 04:44 PM

yea I would look at the knees again...what say you ?

04 April 2005, 05:23 PM
I would make the waist a bit more thicker.. right now too much of a barbie doll appearance.the buttocks towards the center look a bit square..

Ok i see what you mean, hmm... taking care of the square butt :surprised:) because i want a very Manga-style look in the Image, i´m not so sure about the waist you said. The most Mangas i knew are working with very strong Proportions in the Body/Head/Eyes.... I will think it over. But thanks a lot, very helpfull post!

yea I would look at the knees again...what say you ?

I say you are right! the knees are possible problem :banghead:
I think i have to buy my girlfriend a latex suit as reference (and 4 some personal reasons :love::twisted:

See ya!

Hi Folks.

I fixed some problems on the butt and on the knees.

Hope it looks a bit better now ?! :)

See Ya

04 April 2005, 11:58 PM
Kira's looking pretty good, vampeta :) . The butt looks a little low (but then again, I know nothing about butts :D ), but that could just be the angle.

BTW, have you ever seen Oswald Piras's Alita (from Battle Angel) model? It's very good (similar to the style you're going for) and also has the "latex-hotpants" idea.
You can view it here ( (lowest-center icon), curtesy of CG Total.

04 April 2005, 01:42 AM
immediately better

04 April 2005, 01:44 AM
what a f*&$( butt ! uhauah

waiting to see more.. c ya !

04 April 2005, 03:32 AM

i never drank alt in my life, so i don't know who it taste :)
to the model: i wanna make the butt and legs a little bit thinner, maybe a bit. looks to me like woman wrestler legs :)
love her suit.

greetz Jens

04 April 2005, 04:53 AM
Well, some might think that the butt is a little low, but I can tell you from my own taste, that's my kinda ass!

In all seriousness, great modeling on the form and especially the little wrinkles in the latex. That's hard stuff to pull off that well.

04 April 2005, 06:37 AM
Hello Friends, realy nice feedback in here :bounce::bounce: this is always pushing me higher:)

BTW, have you ever seen Oswald Piras's Alita

@ArtisticVisions :: Wuahh:surprised... Cool Model, Yeah that is definitely the style i want 4 my image! ((hmpf... hope he dosn´t enter the challenge also ;) :arteest:)) Thanks a lot!

@Jed D :: Wrestler legs?!... hmm ok, it looks a bit strong...;) i will go for it, Thanks a lot neighbor, P.s: try some ALT, it will cahnge your life! ;) cheers

@tharrell :: Thanks a lot, year.. the folds are some tricky modeling, above all when you have no reference.:wip:

I read manga too, and anime. It depends on the manga/anime artist I guess, but typically I don't see alot of thin waistlines and large buttocks.. mostly large breasts. Maybe try reducing the ass/hip size and leave the waist the size it is which could also work..

the last update looks alot better, looks more round.

04 April 2005, 09:48 AM
I won't say anythink about butt, I just think her stem is a bit too thin.. good luck, great modeling indeed

04 April 2005, 11:45 AM
good effort brother carry on .....waitinf for more WIP

04 April 2005, 01:51 PM
Ahoy...nice butt! For me it's a lil big but it's personal taste! Excellent modeling so far!

A have to keep an eye here!

04 April 2005, 06:59 PM's coming along nicely man...just a personal taste tip at each butt cheek a center vertex from behind and with big Area soft selection (u work in MAX ..yes?) ,
pull the butt cheeks up a bit...she looks a bit low butt lady now...again it's only my humble opinion....:)

P.S : or u don't do anything if it's not visible in final :)

have fun

This is my first experiment to create hair. This is very early stage, just to figure out how to get some good results without any hair software.

The haircut is a bit worst at the moment...also some geometric errors on her face (WIP) just wanted you to show the working progress.

hope you like it :)

04 April 2005, 07:41 PM
man, that girl will be ass-kickin'...if u fix the childlike face (i know you'll fix that... )

04 April 2005, 07:53 PM
WOW... That's cool..

04 April 2005, 04:33 AM
Hey hey, nice concept of her  The hair looks quite nice, IMO just needs more of then and a couple of layers. And the face, just push the forhead a little to the front, cause now the whole moulth is to much in the front, especially when comparing to the concept.
Ok, cant wait to see her whole :scream:

04 April 2005, 10:46 AM
Verry nice feedback in here! Thanks to everyone!

04 April 2005, 11:19 AM
Hi vampeta, Your character somehow has instant appeal... Great work on the face so far, I do agree that she needs work, as suggested earlier, as well as her nose needing some softening...Great stuff!

04 April 2005, 12:29 PM
Hi alex. Since i love your work, id like to give you a few tips on the face. since my english in anatomy sux royally, i gonna write it in german :P hahaha, lazy me

keep on rocking!

Hey Sacha, that is realy realy healpfull you wrote, if you come ever to Düsseldorf lets have a beer together :).
(Danke! wirklich der beste Reply den ich bis jetzt hatte!!)

As you know... the face is in a realy early stage and your hints are most welcome this time. (You know my first cg character ;) )
I just visited your website and saw your last work :):bounce: (realy nice work on the whole character and on some cool details   I hope my work will reach this high level.

I´m a bit in time trouble, hope i can finish what i have planed. (Deine Tips sind wirklich, wirklich sehr hilfreich, mal schauen wie ich sie umsetzen kann... LETS ROCK ;)

Thanks 4 the GREAT help!

04 April 2005, 01:34 PM
it let me think of a japanese comic excellent:)

04 April 2005, 02:16 PM
Really like the quality and the 3d design of the figure :applause: bravo

04 April 2005, 10:41 PM (

Hgnnniarks. It still looks bad.. :(

OK. I´m not good in faces, that´s a fact! but thats why i´m here, just to learn it! right ?!

I was absolut unhappy with the face of Kira. It was modeled after a the sketch i draw and there where a lot of proportional errors on it. The modeling result was a Face that i don´t like. It´s very easy to design something abstract, but when it comes to model nature & reality... nevermind... I just wanted u to show you i´m doing.

P.s: I hope you all like Winona ;)

See Ya!

04 April 2005, 01:07 AM
It's hard to tell since there's hair on the better version, but the one thing I definitely noticed on the "bad version" was that the upper part of the head (forehead to the top) looked too squashed, and not tall enough.

Looking good otherwise!

04 April 2005, 02:19 AM
Are you planning on making the character realistic now, or are you still planning on her being anime-style?
This ( is the tutorial that I used when I first started some anime modelling a while back (it's kinda old, but the principles still work). For your Kira (if you still want her to be kinda "Alita"-like), I'd look for some of Yukito Kishiro's artwork and use that as part of your modeling reference.

As for the hair... well, I'd don't much about that subject, but you could make copies of the hair strands and layer them to create more volume to it (which I think is it's the main problem right now)

04 April 2005, 06:41 AM
Hi Friends,

This is so great!! Thanks so much 4 the help in here!! Realy great!!

@ArtisticVisions :: Hey great Tutorial! My Character will be defenetly Manga like, i just want to take a realistic face 4 the proportions, because i think my painting from Kira is proportional not right and the result is a face i don´t like (I just wanted her to look cute) I think Winona is a good Choice (he has already a bit Manga style, don´t you think ;) )
i will tweek the Eyes in the end to the Manga Version. About the Hair.... f#ckn#$!gnn!! I will come back to this later ;) Thanks a lot 4 the Help (and 4 the cool links)

@jowens:: Jeah! the first version was modeled without references, The greates Problems where the Eyes at the beginning. The second version looks a bit better, but after a few texturing tests he looks TERRIBLE. I was soo unlucky to decide to make a third version. (i had the same Problems modeling my Okayama Cruiser, i have made three Versions of the front, and only the third Version looks good ;) ) Thanks 4 the feedback.

@jddog:: Nice to hear :bounce::bounce:

@teapoter:: Thanks!

See U on the next update.

04 April 2005, 08:50 AM
hi vampeta!
great progress i see here.
hope you can fix the face. in the moment it looks really like a child face. when you are looking for a manga like face what abaout this thread:
maybe the face can fit to your char...
i did a little overpaint, to show what i mean..., but i can´t attach this image here.

can´t wait to see the new face. Winona is looks good, maybe you have problems, because you have no side view...
keep it up

04 April 2005, 11:04 AM (

Ok, now i´m satisfied. :) :)

Thanks Winona, 4 your beautifull head.
I just matched her eyes to Manga-style.

The rest will do the textures and the hair.

Hope you like her ;)
Stay tuned

04 April 2005, 11:40 AM
Hey's better ...but NO...don't go to hair just yet...Stay with it more....
-- work opn her Lips more...seems too ...out (can't find correct word now)...and i think lower lips should be less out than upper lips...just a bit...also all mouth should be a little smaller or in the way that Sacha (1st_angel ) makes them.

-- ears i think are way back...must come forward and meet the Diagonal side line of Jaw..(i know 'cuase i made the same mistake in first ears for ARES)

-- In Manga style i think face is more round and chin is more small and pointy..i think...make a small search on this.....

I think u are in abetter track now but my humble advice is to work more with it ....don't just yet go to hair and other stuff.

Your friendly bubble :bounce:

04 April 2005, 04:53 PM
I concur with Dimitris that the ears are currently set very far back. At the moment this gives the head a bit of an elfish appearance. But the hugh leaps in quality of your head-modeling skills cannot be denied! I'm very impressed.

I found some nice additional manga-reference images:

In those example images you can clearly see the small nose and chin manga-characters usually have as Dimitris just pointed out. Furthermore the jaw and overall lower part of the head has a very triangular shape in those reference images.

I bet it's a tough call this time around for you in this challange, but just stick to it... sofar your efforts in swimmnig in uncharted waters seem to gradually pay off!

Best reagards...

04 April 2005, 05:39 PM
Hi Dimi & Mirco.

Thanks 4 the great support and help. I will try to make the best of it. :arteest:

Head modeling sux... :banghead: the first version took me two days, the second version 1,5 days and the last one ( my favorite) only 6 hours. Cool thing!!

Nevermind, The Tips / Hints & Support is AWESOME :bounce::bounce:this time, keep it on guys you are the greatest!!

04 April 2005, 05:47 PM (

Ok, i hope there is enough time to realize this konzept. (i will try to do it ;) )

Here are the Villains! hope you like the idea.

I was experimenting with some variations of her hair.

More layers, high-res textures, and a masked environment-map as reflection.
I´m satisfied with the result so far, but curious what YOU think about it.

Hope you like it! ;)

((hints - tips - critique - feedback)) everything is most welcome ;)

Stay tuned

04 April 2005, 07:23 AM
She looks a bit like Gally from Battle Angel Alita :) Nice work on the hair...I'd straighten out the nose a bit though..... a side shot would help heaps on crits....

04 April 2005, 07:55 AM
Hi vampeta, the hair looks heaps better mate:thumbsup: theres just those odd little fragments at the base of the part, dunno what's happenin there...Really nice work man

04 April 2005, 08:24 AM
WOW! Cool work you've got here! :bounce: That head model(s) look awesome! (állot personality in it, in my opinion :) ) And also that hair you just showed off, looks really cool! (especially the shading looks 'special' and cool!)

Good luck on it! I'll follow this to the very end ;)

Have a nice day! :)

04 April 2005, 01:16 PM
WOW!! Very cool feedback in here!

Currently working on the Throne-room and on some textures.
Next update is in progress ;)

04 April 2005, 01:36 PM
Hair is looking a hundred times better than the previous version. :)

Only thing I really notice is that the nose is holding back the model from being "manga-style"; the nose looks too realistic for the character. Try thining it out, tapering the end of the nose to more of a point, and decreasing the size of the nostrils.

04 April 2005, 03:17 PM (

This is a quick & dirty lihting test with V-Ray, (low GI settings).
Aso a test 4 the Cam. position

Room is up 70% finished.

I´m a bit unhappy with the result. Most of the Materials lose ther specular settings and looking too dim. :(

I have to try out some different render settings or materials..

See ya

Stay tuned friends

04 April 2005, 05:47 PM
Hi. I like most of you got here. But are you sure that girl's face is Ok? Looks a bit disproportional.

If you need more manga-anime shots, you can ask me. I were studuing this stuff, so I got many films.

My M&S thread

04 April 2005, 01:12 PM
Hello there vampeta!

Regarding the head-modeling work, I guess I found something helpful here ( It is not manga-related, therefore missing the direct references to manga-specific proportions, but still containing helpful guides for creating an appealing face.

Best regards...

04 April 2005, 02:29 PM
hey there dude.,. fantastic progress so far .. i wouldnt be too harsh on yourself the textures look quiet good a few tweaks here and there with the lighting will do a lot more just keep experimenting.. keep hittin that render button until you get what you want.. im sure when you add more detail to the scene it will look alot better (as you said its only 70% done) so good luck and awaiting more progress its looking great man...

04 April 2005, 02:48 PM
But are you sure that girl's face is Ok? Looks a bit disproportional.

@suk-grigorij:: No i´m not sure. you ar right, looking a bit disproportional... i´m working on that. But nevermind thanks a lot 4 your feedback. (p.s: nice thread you have there! I like your characters!

@mirco:: Geiler link, vielen Dank großer! P.s: Poster kommen vermutlich mitte nächster Woche an, Gruß Alex.

@Neeno:: Thanks a lot 4 your feedback, Yeah Yeah moooore details!!

Thanks a lot Friends!
See ya

04 April 2005, 02:53 PM (

Here is the first textured version of Kiras head. Looking much better then some versions i dit bevore, but i´m curious what you think of her ;)

(I removed the hair to show you some proportional fixes on her head)

Stay tuned

04 April 2005, 07:38 PM
Ok, critique time! :applause:

1. From the side, the lower lip looks kinda funny; usually, it's the upper lip which sticks out further than the lower lip.

2. The nose still needs to be less realistic and more anime-ish (see my post above for what I mean).

3. There either needs to be a bigger chin or smaller lips (can't really tell, but something in that area is throwing the lower face off).

Hope that helps. :)

04 April 2005, 05:13 PM
Hi Jason,

I love critique, it´s the only way to get better ;)
Very very thanks 4 the continous visits and very helpfull hints & links in this thread!
Most of the errors in my face are the result from a maybe different point of view, maybe i´m better in painting faces then modeling them ;) (but as i said bevore, i improved my modeling skills a lot (the first version of the face took twice the time then the last one)

I´m so short in time in this Challenge, i only hope i can finish this projekt.

Nevermind, thanks a lot! I will keep your critique in mind. very helpfull!

See ya

04 April 2005, 05:25 PM (

Hi Friends,

I dit some more texture work on her face, i dit also some proportional changes on some areas (thanks Jason ;) )

I made her nose a bit smaller now, but i decidet to leave the shape in this way (a bit more realistic then a normal comic-character)

I also shorted the distance between the nose and her upper lips and made her lips a bit smaller in front-view.

And.. i gave her a tribal to maker her look a bit more unique.

Hope you like it

04 April 2005, 07:27 AM
You are doing a great job here, don't stop ! :wip: And I like the kind of design/style that you have so I haven't particular crits to do, all look fine

04 April 2005, 09:38 AM
Show us her with the hair..I'm dying to see the mix [call it a mini-update :)] :scream:

04 April 2005, 07:15 PM (

Thanks 4 the feedback.
Here is a version of her with hair.
(i don´t like the shape/haicut at the moment and will try some different variations.)

Stay tuned friends

04 April 2005, 10:32 PM (

I dit a quick overpaint on my render in PS to figure out a good shape of her hair.

This is the result modeled with nurbs (3 hair layers)
There are currently some texture repeat errors on it, i will fix this tomorrow gähn... i need to sleep)

Hope you like it.
C&C most welcome

04 April 2005, 08:41 AM
She's really coming to life Alex. Looks great with the hair in place. Try and get the eyes to have more interactions with the light...maybe a slight rebuild with some lenses? (raytracing & stuff)

04 April 2005, 10:29 AM
Hi !

I'm a little late to post comments on the geometry but I think it needs a few tweakings. What I see more in the front view is that the nostrils should be rounded. The hole looks too squared. Same comment for the tip of the nose.

The hairs look a little like "Nylon" (don't have my dictionary at work sorry) but I'm not really a specialist...

Anyway nice work so far ! good luck ! :bounce:

04 April 2005, 01:39 PM
Hey hey Alex!

Nice updates You have done here, love the hair, looks really fluffy :) though the end of the hair is still visible (where it should be completlie transparent). Oh and IMHO the hair, when You look from the front, looks kinda poised in the air, needs another layr of the hair to fill the gap in there (the right side near the neck from the back).
About the eyes, take a look at this ( tutorial.
Good luck friend!

04 April 2005, 02:43 PM (

I´m just experimenting with some different techniques of lighting.

The scene is rendered with Max default scanline renderer (no GI). I don´t like the shadow casting at he moment but this was just a test.

The next one will be rendered with Mental ray..

Thanks 4 the Feedback and the cool hints! (Gregory, Norman & Jonas)
I will do my best ;)

See ya

04 April 2005, 05:16 PM
It'd be nice if you could simulate some dirt build up, either by adding a mix material with a vertex paint channel as the mixer or maybe by using a gradient with

- oryginal material
- dirtier material
- dirtiest varient

set it up as a uvw map on channel 2 and then add a channel 2 uvw map with simple flat mapping pointing straight up
(you can copy the oryginal and manipulate the bitmap to be darker under its color tweaks)

04 April 2005, 07:06 AM
Thanks Gregory,

This is realy a cool trick, I used a similar technique on my habitat-ring (GSO) but dit it another way. Thanks a lot 4 this!!

I was just curious how i the room will look withs some standart max lights. (the last test was with v-ray, but i don´t like the result...the materials are to dim with vray)
I will try to do in mentalray some tests...
...The first results look not so bad.:)

See ya

04 April 2005, 01:03 AM
Hi preuss, nice efect, and atmosphere:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 12:28 PM (

Currently working on the Materials and textures...

Here is a simple example how they are mixed together. (thanks Gregory 4 the cool hint :) )

Big thanks to all others

Hi Alex,

those hieroglyphis look really nice  Man I´m so jealous you`re already in the texturing milestone... :)

04 April 2005, 05:43 PM
Nice tutor for us, thnx :)
good start with texturing :p

04 April 2005, 07:26 PM (

Hi Friends,

Ok i was playing with mentalray a bit ;)

I testet the lighting without textures to improve my rendering Time. This one took 3 hours in 1100x1100 pixel (on my old AMD Mashine ;)

I,m so far satisfied with this one... just a bt curious how it will look with textures :/

I think with textures the rendering time will be 4x the time (ähmm... i forgott the final resolution... dear lord :O ... well then i think 16-32x ;)

hope you all like it, and thanks 4 the great feedback.

04 April 2005, 07:30 PM
Nice lighting Alex  although I'd pump up the amount of bounces to give the dark corner on the left some light.

04 April 2005, 07:43 PM
Wow, what a lights

Impressive scene! Yes- yes volumetric lights are cool and hungry for RAM and machine. Also problematic to work with the highres maps and final image with this light effect. Perhaps you can give a try to solve it in photoshop...I know it's not the same...but you can give more control on it and no doubt some great artists made it perfectly in 2D. Just a suggestion you know. To avoid the out of memory message after you're waiting since two hours for start of your final rendering. :wavey:

Hey Alexander
Nice, You managed to get the volume light to look really soft, that great!
And, mind me asking, why arent You using Your new workstation to render?

04 April 2005, 10:36 PM

Good luck!!

04 April 2005, 01:00 AM

Hi Friends!

@Mr Micro26 :: Thanks a lot! I´m currently working on that, stay tuned ;)

@Maxter :: Thanks! (some post-effect or correction???) Possible! I will figure that later out.

@Kaksht :: Hi Friend! Thanks! I´m currently using my old mashine as a render slave ;) that is a great time saver,I can modeling/texturing & rendering at the same time :bounce::bounce: (without any performance breakdowns)

@overcontrast :: That´s so cool! I´m going to get blushed ;) :blush:

And a BIG Thanks! to all others in this thread, it´s always nice to have this kind of Critique/feedback/promotion. DONT´T STOP ;)

04 April 2005, 03:21 PM
This is obviously some great lighting !
Keep it up, I'll wait for the whole scene !

04 April 2005, 04:04 PM (

This is a composition thought for the Final.

The text is just to explain the emotions of the characters for this sketch/concept ant won´t be in the Final! (?!)

Hope i have enough time to finish the work on the characters (uff.. time is against us ;) )

The villain will be only seen from the back side... hmm i think 4 this one i will went to zbrush.

Ok back to work :)

Stay tuned

04 April 2005, 06:03 PM
Hehe those will be the last steps he climbs. Can't wait to see em there in person.

The text looks pretty cool though pitty it'll be canned.

Still a bit distracted by the left corner. Any ideas how to lighten it up??.

Still a bit distracted by the left corner. Any ideas how to lighten it up??.

Yea, i think i will move the cam a bit to the right, The Characters will be very big in size and in this position they will obscure the backround to much.
I will try that out as soon as the characters are finished (I hate modeling HANDS :( ) ;)

Muchos gratias 4 the fabulous feedback in here.

04 April 2005, 05:36 PM
Beautiful volume light, I really like it, the green color gives a great contrast with environment, nice going, and good luck!

04 April 2005, 05:38 PM
Really nice lightning so far. Maybe the left part of the image is a little bit to dark...?

04 April 2005, 05:50 PM
Great work on the ligthing. You've got a good camera angle established and the beams of light comming in work really well with the composition. I like the dark area on the left side, it's a good contrast to the bright areas. Alexi.

04 April 2005, 06:25 PM
Great Lightning Fella.. I can´t wait to see the characters in the scene.. Keep Working Man...

04 April 2005, 09:26 AM

Thanks 4 the great support friends, see Ya!

05 May 2005, 02:47 PM
nice robot! I really like the detail you put in the bevel edge of every part of robot!! but I don't sure the latest post , robot dirt texture look a bit strange! but maybe your wip, so keep goin!

Looking foward to see the final

05 May 2005, 07:20 AM
Hey Alex how about giving him a camera lens type eye??. Great updates BTW  The mech looks heavy & not to be pushed around :)

05 May 2005, 07:00 AM
@3dRaven:: Thanks Friend, cool idea, at the moment it´s a bit more like mix between a laser weappon and a camera lens, (i will show you later ;) )

@arlutik:: Yes thats so cool, nice to hear. This movie changed my mind, about making cartoons in 3d. Greetings to your son!

@melkao:: Thanks!

@Neeno:: Thanks also ;)

@monsitj:: Thanks a lot, Yes i knew what you mean, that´s also a problem with skylight rendering in max, i´m shure in mental ray it will look much better. (but this is an experiment.) i like more the clean version... but in the environment i created it will proberbly look strange. ... Yeah i will figure that out after the first testrender with my characters in it ;) Nevermind, thanks a lot friend

Stay tuned

05 May 2005, 04:59 PM (

It takes shape slowly.

I placed my robot into the scene to figure out how will the lighting work (currently just one light straight behind from the ceiling, the rest does GI :)

My new Mashine rendered 6 hours without volume light in 1000x1000 pixel. (the volume light in this one are a small comositing fake... :)

Now i will went back to the missing parts from Kira, hope modeling will be finished this night!? ;)

Hope you like it,
See Ya

05 May 2005, 05:09 PM

05 May 2005, 10:47 AM
Interssant work. Especially lighting and composition. Even if with this good lighting we lost emotion and feelings for characters.
