Here is a base for ruins environment. I textured it quickly in 2.5D to have an idea. I added some photoshop elements such as the clouds, and light to have an idea of the scene. Main color shame will be different.

Sorry for the bad quality of the concept, that's not really my speciality ;)

3 characters planned :

- The beast (staying)
- The master yelling at the beast because this one doesn't want to move on
- The servant, trying to draw the beast forward (don't know exactly yet position of him, like behind or in front of it)

The main visual would remind old references in the shape, but i want to add a bit of comic situation, not a serious final composition.

Most important is i'll have fun on it :)

03-24-2005, 10:28 PM
I am very happy to see u in this friend...have fun..i will sure enjoy watching your progress on this

03-27-2005, 03:03 AM
looks real fine and all.But is'nt this just a tweaked version of your zphere pig?Just looks altered and tweaked some.Take a look at these side views here. The backends are just alike. You can even overlap them. Its good work of course, but something is foul. It's not fair to everyone else here.you just added some detail to the front, and tweaked a bit from there, and then add some extras. It's real clear to me.Sorry, but I got to voice what I see here.

This is from page 3. http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=221952&page=3&pp=15

and this from a earlier work.Notice the grey version,It's just alike for the most part. For me it's obvious.I know there was awhole Poser thing involving strike before. And here we go again.

03-27-2005, 03:32 AM
WOWOWOWOWOWOWWOO!!! really nice sculpting..the beast is a little pixalated near its neck but its hardly noticeable!!
buit still man slow down lmao...GL texturing

03-27-2005, 03:42 AM
I check your site ,and found that you can create high detail art work at average about 2 hours , at this rate your entry will be the best for sure!!:thumbsup:

03-27-2005, 03:53 AM
That is absolutely insane. Applied for ILM yet? XD

03-27-2005, 04:29 AM
now this is an entry to watch...jesus I clicked the name and expected to see a sketch, maybe a head model, and I see this... great work man.

03-27-2005, 04:35 AM

I have to say yes it does look a lot like that pig model...

Strike what do you have to say about this , you do know all models have to be created from scratch correct? This is grounds for disqualification

03-27-2005, 05:09 AM
Yeah.. that does look strikingly similar.

03-27-2005, 05:11 AM
Well It looks like it is that pig just modified after all, looks like there is some serious explaining to do, unwrap both displacment maps and compare them would tell easily

03-27-2005, 05:11 AM
Yes very similar to the pig indeed. You can even see the same nipples on the beast in the 3/4 view.

03-27-2005, 05:12 AM
This is crazy damn./..Awesome

and this from a earlier work.Notice the grey version,It's just alike for the most part. For me it's obvious.I know there was awhole Poser thing involving strike before. And here we go again.

I have to agree. With the exception of the head and a little more mass in the upper back it looks exactly like that pig. Hate to rain on everyones parade but something seems suspect.

03-27-2005, 05:18 AM
The beast does look extremely simular to the pig. The legs are the same, the shoulders are the same. The rear is very simular, and the belly has the same shape to it. It does look like a slight rework of your pig model.

03-27-2005, 05:23 AM
OMG, that looks great. Man, I am going to learn ZBrush. Lemme ask you a question, how long did it take to make that in ZBrush? Was it an easy and quick process? or a hard and tedious? I am really curious.

03-27-2005, 05:28 AM
OMG, that looks great. Man, I am going to learn ZBrush. Lemme ask you a question, how long did it take to make that in ZBrush? Was it an easy and quick process? or a hard and tedious? I am really curious.

Its pretty simple , you just take a premade model and pull the points on it a little and try to pass it as a new model in a community of over 100,000 people and hope no one catches you.

what can I say , strike strikes again

This is not a production scenario where you can do whatever means necessary to cut corners , this entry should be disqualified as its insulting to everyone else putting the hard work.

03-27-2005, 05:40 AM
:bounce: uhmm.. we are will kill judas again?

past is the past dudes.. wait to hear what strike will say!!

but think in this... zbrush is very fast, easy and fun to use.. you can make a hidetail model in o short space of time. ok

don´t judge or it will be judged.

independent of all this. strike is a great artist and I believe that he deserves our respect.

bestluck strike!!
c ya!!

03-27-2005, 05:46 AM
yeah they are the same model, just moved around. i mean you can make that pig new in zbrush in like...3 hrs...just make a new pig. even to me this pig right now looks like its skeleton is liquified. the actual shape of the pig should be much differnt from were it is now. all of the shape of the pig could be improved imo.

03-27-2005, 06:02 AM
OMG!First poser than this. When will it stop.It is totally clear! It's not weather or not that he can do this or not in a short period of time,It is very clear that this is alerted from previous models. Are we supposed to turn our heads now once again. Its cheating everyone else here.It gives him a major head start on everyone.
It's clear to me without compromise. This suxs!

Its not an issue here if Strike is a good modeler or not.. cause clearly making those two pigs takes alot of talent and hard work to get there. But it seems pretty clear that the challenge entry pig was made based on the old pig, flow is the same.
Im not even in the challenge (yet, who knows) and I find it very childish to yet again try and cheat your way into the challenge.
Disqualification is the only means of getting rid of this, and Im sorry for it, cause its a very good model none the less.

03-27-2005, 06:11 AM

03-27-2005, 07:57 AM
amazing work.. you're a good modeller, ZBrush continues to amaze me.. maybe I'll reinstall the demo to finally learn it.. hehe

as for the pig model story, I'll wait for your comments on this.. It's a pretty serious accusation.
I agree the models look very similar, but then again.. if u model a pig and then model a beast based on a pig, anatomy structures will look the same. If I had to model a tiger versus a lion, their leg anatomy would look almost identical.

03-27-2005, 09:48 AM
Thanks all for your comments guys :) Glad you like it

About the beast, i volontary show the workflow to avoid the confusion beetween it and the pig. For most of my details i use alphas to create wrinkles, or small details. The pig was really easy to do in this way (the base, standard brush work, alphas on PM, and inflate parts of it). The topology is similar yes because the same number of zpheres of the pig, but it's a different mesh, a unique one, but made with the same workflow than the pig, with same alphas (my alphas are created from pictures i modifed and need alot of work), so those are stored on my PC for many different uses. It's like if you stored textures for future works. If using this kinda ressources is cheating, then no problem, i understand, and you can disqualified me. But i assume the fact it's a different mesh (common guys, i can at least get inspired by my own works and workflow !)

In any case, i'll keep working on it, even if you think i have to be disqualified. I just do that for fun on my spare time. If it can help some, then don't worry i will not submit my final entry, just to prove i don't want to win...

Thanks again for all for their comments.

03-27-2005, 09:54 AM
absolut stuning work, love it, see you and

03-27-2005, 10:44 AM
Man I think the well's been poisoned.Since you say you dont care about being one of the winners you should take this to the wip gallery.
There you can used pre-made models. It's quite clear to me,I mean BAM,really clear.

Count me dissapointed,it's an outrage to all here, just plain and simple deceitful.Sugar coat it all you want.If this is not disqualified then lets throw out the deadline guidlines too.

03-27-2005, 11:22 AM
I honestly think people don't understand how fast you actually are STRIKE. And in turn, people will become skeptical over your works.

I totally understand and believe you STRIKE. I've seen your other works and the time you've completed them amazes me. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this beast is from a new mesh like you stated. You are one hell of a Z-brush junkie.

03-27-2005, 11:58 AM
I think that clears up alot of issues

as I was saying earlier.. models based on a similar animal musculature structure would look the same, even though it's an entirely new model. it should in no way discredit the artist if he's using that to get characters and animals looking believable.

keep it up dude.. i think this pace is insane

03-27-2005, 12:15 PM
ils sont fous les gaulois! tous! pah. wow, really hot stuff (premade or not).

edit:(if you able to make something like that in this short time, shouldn't be a problem to create a clearly new pet or just modify the apha that is sweaping all doubts away): in the other hand, the beasts apearance looks totally different, and at the end, if it is a new model, it is.

Wish you much fun and best luck, happy brushing, tought!

03-27-2005, 01:08 PM
I think it looks great like all of your works, there is not a single reason you should be disqualified. I know how fast zbrush works and it's pretty normal that a beast like that would turn out a bit similar since you have made a pig. You can't just forget the method you used to make the pig. If they do disqualify you , then i suggest every head model in every thread here is verified that it is completely unique and doesnt resemble to any heads made by the same person. (have fun doing that...)

Please do continue :)

03-27-2005, 01:23 PM
you´re doing great, each update turns the piece out to be more and more interesting.

What have you thought for the background? and the colors?

03-27-2005, 01:39 PM
Touchy subject and also subjective, I know the history with Strike and that's water under the bridge to me. It takes alot courage to pick up the pieces and come back to a community where now your every turn will be overally scruitinzied.

Regardless of what you "think" his methods are, you cant deny that he has talent above normal. If he say's it a different mesh then it's a different mesh end of story. With my workflow I have modeled things that were very similar to what I created before because its my style.

Pffftt, That's why we have judges who will determine what is what. I think stirring the pot in his thread and getting off topic in it is wrong. This is his challenge thread of all things, cmon...that's a little harsh and unfair to ruin it like that. Just take the guy at his word because that's all we have.

Strike, keep doing your thing man you obviously have read the rules so dont leave your entry out to prove a point. I enjoy your updates and look forward to more reasons why I should buy ZBrush....the cross your bearing is the heaviest I've seen in a while but drag it all the way to the finish.

03-27-2005, 01:51 PM

great work so far bro!

Id say the model looks quite zbrushy at the moment and apart from all those details the ppl love it kinda lacks some sort of sructure in it that makes it beliavable. I think u should go with some other design :D
Im sure ull do great tho and loom forward to the final result, good luck!

03-27-2005, 11:03 PM
Everytime I see these ZBrush images I just wanna scream....unbeliveably awesome. You kicked ass on the second attempt, good show. Im learning just by watching your images

3 hours? wow!! great model.

03-28-2005, 12:42 AM
I really like the beast design. Nice work.

03-28-2005, 01:12 AM
Nice way to shut them up! :scream:

Great modeling! Keep up the excellent work!!

03-28-2005, 01:44 AM
way to go Strike! I whish I could model as fast as you do man!

03-28-2005, 03:52 AM
I really prefer the orginal beast, this beast is full of anatomical errors, i mean, I can understand taking creative license with creature anatomy, but this things lacks any sort of rib cage, plus the proximity of the shoulder to the base of the skull...i have no idea how this creature could move. The surface detailing is really nice, but I think you should focus a bit more on believable anatomy.

03-28-2005, 03:55 AM
Apart from the anatomy , i think this is pretty nice, nice fast work man . :D

03-28-2005, 05:09 AM
hahaha, thats the way to show attitude. well, time isn't the main problem at the moment, and your new model looks fine. after a few lil tweaks, i also think the anatomical flaws will be sweeped away, finestructures are awesome already...my only suggestion is at the moment, he's massicve "frontheavy" but since i know what WIP means, wont crit much at the moment and am looking forward to your next update! massive stuff monsieur, and the cutie looks fine! great restart with N2O!
Keep on rockin! aller aller aller!

03-28-2005, 10:46 AM
Thanks all for the precious comments.
I agree about the anatomy mistakes, and also about the general shape, not really fitting this time. I prefer the 1st one too, but i'll make another one more dynamic, in movement i think, with more work on it, done with more references. The last one was done really quickly like a sketch in a way to show it's possible to detailed really quickly under Zbrush, so forget it :)

I'll come up soon with something better.

Thanks again guys :)

03-28-2005, 11:55 AM
yop Js, ca part tres bien tout ca,
content de te voir ds le challenge, c'est la que ca se corse pour tout le monde :scream:

03-28-2005, 01:35 PM
a la qualite de travail jalousie reciproquement inverse!
superbe taf, bonne continuation

03-28-2005, 02:51 PM

yeah, maybe kwak is right about the anatomy, but to be honest, I prefer this new design because the old one reminded me to the pinky orc from lord of the rings. Don´t ask me why, I know it has nothing to do one with the other. It´s just subjective so choose what you like most.
Anyway it has been a good way to proceed, showing "attitude" like angel said.
I think it is a pity you having to prove anything anyway, because your word should have been enough. But... this subject is over.

Congratulations for your job, it is amazing.

03-28-2005, 03:23 PM
This is something discouraging. You the best.Proud to submitt my work on the same site with U man, just speechless.Keep bombing, brilliant.

amazing!! I have no words! it´s amazing! I love the armor!
keep it up!

03-28-2005, 05:48 PM
damn you! Soo very nice! Bit of a crappy fanboy post this im sorry but that is awsome.

03-28-2005, 05:52 PM
Looks amazing but there is something going on at the masters helmet. The joining between the horn (??) and helmet look a bit weird. Kepp it updated, the final picture will be awesome

03-28-2005, 07:07 PM
I've been lurking this thread for a bit.. i was dissapointed about where this thread was going with the mud slinging as i was catchin up. I also like the creature again. I really wasnt feelin the 2nd iteration of the beast, looked like it was gonna fall on its face the way the weight was distributed.

These images so far have all been straight outta zbrush right. I really like the sweaty material youve made. I was trying to make my own version, any tips? is it all in the spec curve? multi shader? light setup must be important too.

very impressive skill and speed.

03-28-2005, 07:11 PM
... que dire de plus sinon : impressionnant
... amazing ...

03-28-2005, 08:11 PM
beautiful work.

do you plan on creating your final render in zbrush or will you be exporting to another program?

03-28-2005, 08:18 PM
oh, nevermind. after looking through your site, it looks like you keep everything inside of zbrush.

again, fantastic work.

03-28-2005, 08:19 PM
totally speechless, top three or first prize? :deal::argh:

03-28-2005, 10:11 PM

I am not sure that the third personnage is necessary!
Just beast and warrior, as there is a doubt as where is the master, where is the servant :)
(le cochon retord ou l'excité cavalier)
As like funny concept :)
My point of view :)
Of course I have nothing to said for the modeling :D
It's a Strike

03-29-2005, 01:31 PM
that's insane! Excellent attention to detail and I can't wait to see the final image.

03-29-2005, 07:21 PM
Real Awesome! It's just perfect. I'm going to be using ZBrush for my work but am new to it. Do you have any pointers.

03-29-2005, 07:52 PM
wow really great job. The level of detail is awesome! But hey man you've got two month to complete this work, don't hurry :)

03-29-2005, 08:26 PM

03-29-2005, 08:31 PM
superbe JS !

Very beautiful strike !

03-29-2005, 08:38 PM
I like your approach to the modeling process. The dramatic composition compliments your level of detail. With two months left we should expect to see an army of these guys plus some animation. Heart attack anyone? Keep up the great work.

03-29-2005, 08:40 PM
Every time I look at this thread I come one step closer to purchasing Zbrush. Very insperational

Amazing?? Thats some fantastic work, I agree with enochian (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=129180) vbmenu_register("postmenu_2100080", true); and I'm seriously considering buying zBrush....But its the skills of the artist here not just the tools. Looking forward to your prize?

Keep up the great work!

I like the style...very much like frazzetta. Those models are just sweeeeet! I've got to buy Zbrush...those details are amazing.

03-30-2005, 11:31 AM
Zbrush should be banned
no seriously, in the hands of an awsome artist it just moves him to a whole new level of awsomeness which cant be touched by any other means

simply breathtaking:thumbsup:
looking forward in seeing more updates

03-30-2005, 12:10 PM
Sweeet work man!
The amount of details and the overall feel of the image is just Awesome. Seems like a very strict master. Why is he so angry / strict ?

03-30-2005, 01:44 PM

Ok, as i didn't have time to answer yet, here are some answers, i hope i didn't miss some ;)

mecman : thanks ! the armor needs more work i think
H3rbie : hehe thanks
Marzocchi : yea right due, i will fix that, and maybe modify a bit details. thanks !
spaz8 : thanks for the comment. It's due to the shader and lightning i think. Just a bit of spec, and 2 lights only.
Fred76 : Merci à toi ! Ca fait plaisir !
flinder : no problem
jdsb : i wish, but it's not finished
crapple : just by adding details. Using alphas help alot.
alex.h. : thanks !
lane_dauftry : can't wait neither, but i have to ! hehe !!
Neliox : merci c'est sympa ! Bonne chance à toi !
Kid Mesh : nice to see you again around here man
Zlatan B. : wow, it's an honor but i don't think i'm good enough to be compared to Frazetta
Wandddo : glad you like !
Vajra : If only she was hehe !! thanks!
und3r : thanks
makaron : i definitly have to post the full mesh to avoid that again
tzktime : merci ! thanks for the kind words
anil6tr : thanks mate !
Dezz : merci gars !
goktug : i'm slowing down don't worry. Prove is i didn't post anything today :D
mireneye : It will come soon.. Well i hope !
Frenchy Pilou : Pilou ! vous ici !!? I think that to fit the challenge, i have to include the relationship between two humans, but i'll see how the only 2 first will be. Merci à toi. Fait plaisir de te voir !
dmonk : thanks !
JayCally : Thanks. Maybe watching some Zscripts will help you to see how users are doing things. More infos on Zbrushcentral.com. You'll find everything there
reiv : no rush yea you're right. I think during weeks, i'll be not really productive for the challenge, so don't worry
smaddl : glad you like !
Ludal : Merci à toi ! C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron et j'en apprends encore tous les jours, donc bon... hehe. Pas de tablette, all with my mouse. I always prefered mouse. Merci à toi.
Brent3D : It would be terrific to have an army of these guys yea. But i think i would need more time hehe !
enochian : Zbrush is very intuitive, close to sculpture, so if you like details, i think it could be a cool tool for you. Thanks for the compliment man.
overcontrast : well i take that as a compliment, but please keep working. Please !!
icedeyes : thanks alot ! I really appreciate. Most of texture work is due to shader under Zbrush.
stripe : yo ? wassup ? You're gonna hurt yourself ! are you insane ?! :D hehe Keep going on your beast buddy, please !
DaddyMack : Thanks alot !
jdsb : aha ! funny, thanks !
artman50 : go for it ! good luck to you too man.
Virtuoso : That's what i told him ! :D Thanks for the compliment man. You're doing great stuff as usual !
stripe : :D
Dezz : Encore merci l'ami.
rmongey : I'm sure Zbrush helps alot in doing such a thing. You should try it by your own to have an idea. thanks
DimitrisLiatsos : Noooo ! Don't tell me you broke everything !! :D Thanks, i take it as a huge compliment. Good luck man
handsOnfire : I hope to have more to show, and i also hope to have time enough. Thanks
pBarrelas : So if i don't need, then good luck to you, and thanks alot.
Virtuoso : Autodestruction again... no please...
gra7 : I'll check what i can do. Thanks alot
Climax : Thanks.
Ravendsg : Glad you like it, good luck !
jarvetu : Go for Zbrush ! thanks
cgg : I will !
monkeysweat : Thanks for comparaison, but i'm far to be such an artist. In anycase, thanks !
Hexodam : thanks !
mireneye : I think it's because he can't control his beast, and the poor servant (not yet modeled) will probably get insulted by him, coz there's always someone responsible ;) ehe
Neeno : I think details add alot yea. thanks dude
Eugen : Hey Eugen !! Thanks ! MK is right once again. He is the anatomy master so i just have to incline myself. :)
gpepper : meu nan ! même pas dégouté ^^ Merci gars !

04-01-2005, 06:30 PM
Excellent modeling as ever, JS
The bison like(heavy head shape) 'beast of burden' is great - and the warrior fits well form-wise with his sturdy steed.

Great stuff, man :)

thats looking like one fine head model sir, i think the bison looks too typically zbrush in its style and id like to see you simplify it more. make it look more elegant and unusual .
mix a bird with a bison as that would look more unusual, add a birds beak, row of feathers and a back end of a bison ie big fat ass - lol.

I was studying some new shape for my servant, and i wanted to do some kinda orc... But i rapidely fall in the trick of copying the most famous ones... I think i will not use it for the final, but it was fun to do such a head, so i just share it for fun ^^

Inspired by LOTR of course... fans will recognize him i'm sure ;)
