some slight changes in textures and shadows and this is the final image... Hope you like it and i hope you enjoyed this as much as i did...

I really loved the theme this time around... I work on three projects at the moment so the wip will be slow but i hope (for the first time) to get to finish... I want to use this challenge for personal artistic advancement mostly...

The idea that i had in mind was to create somekind of Dorian Gray style person (a person that always stays yound and pretty) and the women that adore him, wraped around his legs kneeling... Him looking towards the camera in a very arogant and ironic manner...

Or, turn the internal fight over to Dorian so that he will be kneeling in front of his portait crying and touching it gently... fear and despair will be the main characteristic of his face...

So... Wich one do you like most?

Hope you like it... Dorian will be the center piece of the image... he will be on some stairs... his portrait will be hanging over him rotting away so they painting will be the master of dorian and the women that will be hanging on him will be his servants.. Two master-servants relationships in one pack... I hope i can make it in time...

P.S...on thought only...just lower the angle of stairs a bit in your modeling session..they seem a bit too vertical right now...

not much... just got off a project i was working on for 30 minutes and i started on dorian... not much to see yet but i thought i should try and steal some time away from work and get started on this...

i am happy to see more wingers here..... :-)

good work so far,
what was your base object, cube or sphere? (it looks like a sphere for me)

crit points:
you got too much polygons in the ear area, neck should be a little bit thinner
and at least try to remove all 5 or more sided polygons. (for best smoothing results)

anyway, i like it :)

i keep my eye on you

Its a double smoothed cube as a primitive and lots of new edge rings... Thanx for your comments... All geometry will be cleaned up later on... i will only keep quads in the end.. I just work backwards most times... create a rough messed-up mess and then clean it up....

i am going extremelly slow at the moment because my work has taken over my life... project deadlines are getting closer... anyway, here goes a newer version of dorian (still llow poly ... fixed n-gons and added jacket.. will try to update tomorrow...

an update.. detailed the face ( i am happy with it), fixed the hair, created an ear and fixed a part of the body... hope you like it...

hahaha, kali mera, uhmmmmm i like greek food and recently catch a few words... lol.
now that i compare the boxy ant the smoved version, .... i like the boxy somehow very much.
its sort of very special cool... maybe go on that style and give it a try? cuz it somehow looks very cool...

First of all... thank you for your comments Sacha but this is an excersise for me in high poly modelling so i will stick to it I think... Tell me what yo think of it so far and i will see how t goes from here on... This is the new version of dorian by the way...

Hope you like how the scene looks so far... The stratchinh of the polys in the portait was intentional by the way... i really hope you like it....

Hm I really like that stretching poly trick:thumbsup: fine effect on the image. For me your composition is too symmetrical but it's just me. Pushing it hard! You're on the way! :beer:

Tremoside: The composition is not final.. Just a way to see the whole scene... Haven't thought of the lighting/final composition yet... Will do once i am done with modelling and texturing ( i will work everything out when i get to that stage)... BTW i love your entry so far...

Hi George the composition looks great!Only a few small things at the moment that I notice.

The hands need a little touch up and the model needs to be moved a little lower to the ground and create more weight to the legs.Finally the shoes are in my opinion to modern with the whole image and style.

Tremoside: Dont worry... you didn;t distrurb me at all... you made me think... So i started trying things out regarding the camera and lights... the results follow...

Spyro, thank you for your comments... The shoes won't be visible in the shot (as you can see in the following renders) and neither is one of the hands so i don't really worry about detailing these parts since i keep them out of sight... I am kind of happy with his pose right now that everything is in place... Tell me what you thing of it now and i might change it...

here are some light setups (four lights with the key light being lower than the characters and away in the distance) and cameras (full front, upper front and lower front)... Also worked on the girls a little bit... They are simple forms but i want to keep them that way so that i won't get away from the portrait/dorian relationship... The girls will probably be out of focus in the final composition (i 'll use depth of field for this effect)...

i like angle 2 a lot. gives a very nice impression of the hierarchy. Girls, Dorian, his curse...

All looks cool, but if you want to portrait him as the big guy, the master, the "king" you should try and find a suiteble cameraangle from below his waist. then the adiance looks up to him and so do the women that are lying there....from this angle they look a little bit flat. try and see for yourself...he'll look bigger and that's what's generally wanted for the master. the painting on the wall behind him will show more. but hey, just tips, it's up to you let me know if you tried and if you liked it. http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I think you are both right.... Something along the lines of angle 2 shot might be more like it...

Sacha: Thank you for the suggestion... The hierarchy idea is great and it kind of follows the lighting too (which is not final by the way)... Thanks a lot for you suggestions...

Crazydesign: You are right... If you bump by this thread again tell me what you think of the second angle of the camera... I think it is kind of what you suggest...

lower angle of camera

This angle is (to my humble oppinion) better than angle 3. now he is on top and realy portraited as the master...the women are below him and obvious "slaves". the only thing i would try to change is the position of the painting...so it is totally above his head and bigger...but i think with textures it would look different. And try to put in some depth by putting the camera just off-center...rotate left or right...Good luck with composing, and i would love to see some early textures...makes it easyier to see how it all looks...works for me al least. But he, looks very very impressive.

Thanks a lot for your comments.... The only texture that is close to final is the painting's icy look... i am not sure but i kind of like the soft feeling of the dresses too... will experiment further once i have a little more time...

The latest camera angle is much better, & I think the composition wants to be a portrait aspect so perhaps you could try that & zoom into the characters more (so the dress fills the bottom-right of the frame maybe). Something you could try to speed up the cloth folds modelling is to run a load of simulations on low-ish res meshes & then smooth & tweak them afterwards (I used some quick sims to make the cloth in mine). Regarding lighting, what about having an upturned lamp on the floor near the master so it gives a sinister uplighting effect with a big shadow on the wall around the painting?

another one.. not much time for texturing so i tried something less realistic and more stylized... hope you like it... two ligh setups (the second has more lights and GI but i like the first one better i think... I am just rushing to give something in time...

`Mb: about the cloth thing... i will try it out in the next challenge probably but this time i was so filled up in my my work that i didn't have time to test it out... thanks a million for the suggestions... I will try another camera angle and the light under the face... Will post again soon...

I just dropped by to thank all the people that posted in this thread and pushed me to, at least, finish this challenge (even though i wanted to make more of it, the cirmustances held me back)...
