David Marsh has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Final Image: Final Image... Woohoo! (

Here it is, the finished thing. Like many people i'm sick to death of staring at this thing now and, although there's loads more I would have love to have done differently/better this is where it ends. For that at least I am very happy :)

I've enjoyed this competition immensely but now it's time to go and drink beer and talk to real women - if I can rememeber how...

Good luck to everyone,

03 March 2005, 08:53 AM
Welcome & best of luck mate! :)

03 March 2005, 09:18 AM
hey swamps...
goodluck to u.. I think characters are your strong point, hope to see some amazing stuff here

03 March 2005, 10:16 AM
Hi guys,

Yeah, I am very excited about this theme, as you say characters are definately where my passion for 3d is focused. It's great to be sitting here at work and playing with ideas in my mind although I have no firm concept of where i'm going to head with this yet.

Good luck to you both, looking forward to seeing some good stuff.

Catch you soon,

03 March 2005, 08:45 AM
Well after my first sleepless night of dreaming up ideas for this challenge I think i've decided what direction to take.

At first I was going along the lines of drunken guys in a bar - servants to alcohol and all that - but I just couldn't visualise an exciting enough composition. As I like the idea of modelling a really attractive female I focused my thoughts around that :) and came up with the following idea that for now I will entitle: 2 Masters, 3billion (willing) servants.

The idea is to create a very attractive woman with fantastically huge breasts and pose her in a bar or some similar scenario and have three or four awe struck males trying their absolute hardest to woo her. These lust struck romeos will be buying her drinks, bringing her gifts and maybe even fighting over her in the background.

Although it probably seems a hugely sexist subject, I want the guys to look like fools and the woman to be very much in control, if not bored with the situation. I'm basically exploring the dumb fascination that men have with breasts and the subsequent, uniquely feminine ability to use their assets to turn otherwise level headed fellows into hypnotised, drooling servants.

The image will be somewhat stylised; the males especially will be highly characatured, although I like to use realistic textures and lighting. I imagine the final thning to not be too far removed from those old, saucy seaside postcards you used to see.

Feminists beware :)

03 March 2005, 12:56 PM
Greets Swamps, sounds like a hoot!
will be watching;)

03 March 2005, 08:26 AM (

Here's a mock up of what I have in mind - I always hate this part as once I know what I'm doing I just want to get going :)

Check out my previous post for a literal account of my concept...

03 March 2005, 09:38 AM
great concept, I immediately got what you're trying to do as soon as I saw the sketch. I can't wait to see the breast model:D

...damn, did I just say that out loud

03 March 2005, 03:04 PM
He he, yeah i'm looking forward to modeling that bit myself.

And they call us nerds! ;)

03 March 2005, 05:04 PM (

I thought it'd probably be worth my time mcking up the scene using primitive shapes. This way I have a good idea of exactly what I need to build, see if they'll be any unforseen problems and start thinking about the composition from and early stage - as opposed to three seconds before the cometition ends for once :)

03 March 2005, 05:35 PM
Funny how the primitives already generate that, -high tension situation-.

03 March 2005, 06:56 PM
really cool... haha... the beginning looks really interesting, will follow your next steps... :wip:

03 March 2005, 02:09 PM
haha good idea, love the concept :scream:

03 March 2005, 07:18 AM (

The start of the female body. She won't be naked in the finished image so i've put less effort into her mid section than I have for the feet for example which will be relatively close in the final image.

03 March 2005, 07:56 AM
great concept and awsome modeling so far man!

I think the thigh area should either be thinner or the calf be made abit bigger now they seem like they dont belong to eachother. Very nice detailing on the foots!

03 March 2005, 09:43 AM
Hi again David

First of all, hope you had luck/skills to pull yourself out of the december+ situation.

Great concept. Like it a lot. Its so true, we really are little servants in these situations....and in a lot others btw...:)

The model looks fine so far. I have to say, that I dont find her body attractive. Dont know what it is. Probably just personal taste. No big issue here. But you sure made some big advantages...:bounce:

I would work a little more on her attitude. I dont think she looks bored in your scene concept. I want her to do something active, to look like she couldnt care less about those men. Reading a book maybe, even though it would be a strange thing to do in this inviroment. Just doing something, totally without taking notice to the guys standing around her. Hope it makes sense.

And finally, I want to wish you good luck with this. You sure are in you field with this challenge...

03 March 2005, 10:26 AM
Hi Kragh, good to hear from you.

Glad you like the concept, hopefully I can give the final image a nice comic appeal.

I see your point about her attitude in the picture. My original idea was to have her bored and disinterested. However, although attractive women must hate it when guys continually letch over them, i'm sure that on some level they are enjoying the attention.

So what I need is apparently bored but secretly loving it... tough one.

Cheers for dropping by, you in on this one?

H3rbie - Cheers for your comments, I want to go for something a little more characatured so expect to see those curves getting even bigger by the time i've finished, but yeah, you're right they need to match whatever happens.

Thanks for all c&cs always appreciated.

03 March 2005, 10:33 AM
WOW!!
I'd like the same at home!!
Very good body modeling!

03 March 2005, 12:28 PM
What can i say, love the sketch, love the model:thumbsup: , what program r u using?

03 March 2005, 12:32 PM
I cant believe my eyes, our minds are the same. I usually start with head, and than I made a body. Your character looks good. Good luck

03 March 2005, 12:37 PM
Hi Nebezial,

3DMax is my software of choice.

Glad you're liking it. I see that our ideas are taking us down some similar modeling paths.

03 March 2005, 12:50 PM
Hi David

Yeah, I am in on this too...not in 3D though, trying out my drawing skills this time.

Tough one, being bored and exited at the same time....really cant give you any advice on that, it sounds to me as being very complicated....but interesting. To give you an idea, still using the book(I know the book isnt a good idea, its just to give you an example of these two emotions working together): Shes reading the book, having a little smile on her mouth...maybe not starring at the pages very focused...I dont know, just to get you started...

With your character addiction, you really should give zbrush a try....(im paid by pixologic to say that:))...I was stunned by the angler movie on their webpage.

Have fun

EDIT: Btw, you female character is very attractive from behind....just wanted to say, that this view on her, changes my overall view...nice...:)

03 March 2005, 01:09 PM
Muffin1 - We have gone down similar paths here haven't we. I always used to start with the head myself but I tend to dwell on them when really i should be moving on to other stuff. As this deadline is a bit shorter than previous challenges i'm trying to make sure i get everything done that I can - hence body first, head last.

Kragh - I do like the book idea. I think you are right suggesting that the expression and emotion of the woman will make or break this image. It needs to be just right. I like the 'looking at a book but not reading it' idea as it will allow me to express the type of emotion I have in mind. Plus, it might make her look more intellectual and subsequently give her a more subtle level of attractiveness than the in your face pixel porn we're used to.

Hmmm, you've definately given me food for thought...

As for ZBrush, you're right I probably should use it more. I've got a copy and have had a go but found the interface so frustrating I gave up. I've seen what some people have done for this challenge and it's truely amazing that they're knocking out top quality stuff in no time atall. It's worth mastering I guess if just to keep up with the competition.

I'll check out that angler movie, cheers,

03 March 2005, 01:31 PM
your servant is a dream of every man in the world....

03 March 2005, 03:02 PM
Hey, the body is looking like its coming along just nicely. Haha, I know what you mean about Zbrush. I just recently began using it myself. After a while you get more and more used to the interface and eventually you start to like it alot. I recommend that you look some at the Practical Manual.pdf and look in the index to find what you want to be able to do. Since, it is that which is important right now. You can always go back and learn the application step by step once your not in a competition. As for me, I wanted to know how to sculp and how to paint my mesh which I imported from max. And once I understood the workflow basics, it started to show off results which kept getting better as I progressed with the application and reading only tiny bits from the practican guide and generall exploring on my own.

Good luck with it, happy modelling!

03 March 2005, 03:33 PM (

A close up of the feet - untextured at this stage. A veritable treat for any foot fetishists out there! :)

03 March 2005, 04:47 PM
havent seen this ( so many entrys) great work and i be cheking in later
see you and

03 March 2005, 05:12 PM
 wicked. I personally would prefer a little less fat on the waist, but of course - de gustibus non est disputantum :D . Great modelling, good luck and have fun

03 March 2005, 07:10 PM
To Swamps

Hey I like your way of finking. Sometimes weamen make everything the wnat with us just because...(put here all the stuff about breasts). The have that strange kind of power over most men just from the moment they are born. Damn! Guys, we supposed to do something about that. (NO offence? Ladys. We're helpless anyway).
So use your image to make us all (men) to fill a shame for our slave-like behavior.

P.S. Don't take all these seriously.

03 March 2005, 10:37 PM
Great modeling on this body ! I also like the concept ! Keep it up ! Good luck ! :buttrock:

04 April 2005, 12:25 AM
Very nice work on the model and I wish you the best of luck and farther more thanks for your input toward the hand and chain...I've started working on that problem as I write to towards your modeling.. by way I really like your feet on your model...

04 April 2005, 08:00 AM
Like the feet a lot, specially the toes has a very organic, realistic shape. On the left(our left) foot I have a feeling, that it might be a littel flat in profile(both feet might, Im sure its a mirror, just only noticing on the left) giving the foot an ultra slim appearence. It might just be due to the angle and possing of the foot...

Glad you can use my input, makes it a lot more fun to follow you progress:)...and yeah, heading for intellectual appearence could give the picture an extra its 4D:D

Having a lot of trouble myself, really uninspired at the moment. Thats how it is, sometimes it just makes itself, other times you have to put a lot of decipline into the workflow...

Have fun

04 April 2005, 02:40 AM
great work so far from what i can make out. fast n clean modeling. keep it up, max em all :)

04 April 2005, 09:35 AM
:applause: amazing... bravo !

04 April 2005, 09:41 AM (

So, after a weekend of extreme sleep deprivation I've added the head and hands and the character is 90% done. I've also given more detial to the neck, breasts and torso There's still tweaking to be done, although my focus will now be on clothing her and giving her some hair... on her head that is :)

04 April 2005, 10:14 AM
very natural and sexy ;)

04 April 2005, 10:34 AM
great job ! I like the body ^^

good luck ;)

04 April 2005, 01:33 PM (

Here's a close-up of the female character. There's still some tweaking to be done to the shape of the head and the ears a bit rubbish but will probably be covered with hair.

Thanks to everyone who's commented on my work so far.

04 April 2005, 01:40 PM
model's head is so beautiful!:) good work! completely nice modelling!
good luck!go on!

04 April 2005, 01:41 PM
you've got a good understanding of the human anatomy, outstanding modelling

04 April 2005, 01:43 PM
I'm really impressed. This babe is cosmic ... and I've become convinced that I start with my chick over again. Great mesh!

Dude, these are HUGE! Yeah, huge is the right expression... I mean, this IS huge, of course:twisted: Keep us updated!

peace, pete

orion 77
04 April 2005, 01:49 PM
shes a hottie, whats her number? :)

the facial expression is very nice i like the ears a lot as i have trouble with them a lot.

04 April 2005, 02:37 PM
Looks great so far, except the breasts are way too big in my opinion, it'd look better with more realistic proportions. Also the line coming down between the clavical/ upper pecs look a bit sharp...

04 April 2005, 04:12 PM
Cheers guys, good to know i'm heading in the right direction.

PBlades - I know what you mean about the breasts being massive but that's the whole idea behind the final image - her jubblys are the masters and the drooling fools around her are the servants. As long as the modeling is sound, it all comes down to personal preference. I guess it's pretty obvious what mine is... :)

P.S. I totally agree with the pectoral definition thing. Will fix.

Kryhoo - Glad you like her. Tried to follow your signature link to your thread but it appears to be broken...

Versiden - Years of field work my son, years of field work! ;)

More updates soon...

04 April 2005, 04:22 PM
Hey man... That's really great model. Huge silicon breasts. You have fantasy... hehehe. Waiting for ... textured breasts...hehe

04 April 2005, 05:29 PM
hey swamps ;) , gl with challenge ... ok are u modeling pamela ?

04 April 2005, 05:44 PM
Hey David, the modeling is coming along really well! While skimming through all the 3d entries i saw your post and the sole reason i clicked on your thread was to tell you to tone down the breasts, but after looking at your concept I think they are a good size. Perhaps model them closer together and pushed up kind of like this: (

I don't know if that was the sort of outfit you had planned, but I think it would lend itself well to your model. Looking great so far, can't wait to see this compelted!

04 April 2005, 08:16 AM
Morgan - I might not get round to texturing them as they're going to be concealed under a top of some description and i'm on a pretty tight schedule to get everything I need done. Sorry about that, I know it's upsetting for you :)

Marcovic3d - Pammy had crossed my mind as I was modelling this. Then again she does that quite often anyway ;)

Shaykai - Cheers for the link, Monica is hot stuff! Plus I love the outfit. I think for this though i'm going for something a bit more conservative - at the moment i'm inclined towards sexy office girl. Nevertheless I know exactly what you're saying about the breasts - pushed up more and together is something I will be doing for sure.

Cheers for your posts guys, always appreciated.

04 April 2005, 08:47 AM
Except for the strange crease in the middle, that chest is superb !
The whole character is perfect !

Good luck for the next !

04 April 2005, 08:54 AM
Love those tits! can i send u my photo, so you can model me and put me next to her? :p
good job:thumbsup::scream:

04 April 2005, 10:01 AM
hi Swamps...superb modeling here!:)...very organic!

04 April 2005, 10:03 AM
cant stop checking out her boobs.... awsome modelling so far and im looking forward to seeing the texturing

04 April 2005, 10:13 AM

Very nice model, add her hair and textures.
And I think you have to work with the breatbone more, because it's not realistic, too plastic.
Good luck!

04 April 2005, 01:36 PM
Deadly Force - You're right about the crease, someone else pointed that out yesterday so I fixed it last night. Didn't seem worth posting it just for such a minor change but hopefully i'll et more done tonight and make a good, crease free update tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

Climax - Send me a photo dude and i'll stick your head on her body if you like! :)

Yunsirees - Cheers dude, glad she's to you liking... I feel like some kind of digital pimp!

Eddieellis - I don't really have time to texture her boobs sadly as she's going to be dressed (albeit in something skimpy). Maybe i'll just do it for fun anyway though... ;)

SaintT - Yeah, a couple of guys have mentioned the breastbone. It's sorted out now and i'll post and updated model tomorrow. Cheers for pointing it out. Hair is coming...

04 April 2005, 09:31 AM (

I've started to model the clothes onto her. I'm happy with the shoes but the skirt needs work.

A colleague of mine just suggested I lose the skirt and pose her as a stripper/lap dancer in a night club and have all the guys falling around her despertate to stick money in her g-string. I like this idea quite a lot and it would save me modeling clothes on her - which is good for several reasons :)

What does everyone else think of this idea?

04 April 2005, 10:16 AM
your modeling is great
big breasts -to much of it in cg
but it fits your concept

04 April 2005, 02:10 PM (

A shot of the legs from the back...

04 April 2005, 02:30 PM
great work on the legs.. I like how the heel of the feet are slighty buldging from the weight as the foot presses against the heel..

nice work..

how about a long dress with a huge slit to reveal the legs?

04 April 2005, 03:12 PM
I saw the thumbnail of the back of the legs in the gallery and immediately knew your concept without clicking - great idea. I thought the breasts looked a little too much but in the colour render they don't seem so excessive now. The shot of the back of the legs is quite a sexy one, gonna keep an eye on this.

04 April 2005, 04:19 PM
Hi David

Just dropped by. Great process, really nice work on the heel against the shoe...

I dont like the stripper idea that much. But thats your decision...

great work mate

04 April 2005, 04:49 PM
Really nice model, she's coming along great. In my opinion her breasts are a bit too large, but hey, to each his own :)

jake rupert
04 April 2005, 05:11 PM
I would make her a little bit slimer overall, like in your first sketch.
Think that would look more elegant.
Very nice female model you got!

;>) Jake

04 April 2005, 06:28 PM
wow ..nice back :P
I like the model ..really cool ..
and.. ehm ..I had the same idea ..just a bit different ..
kee it up!

04 April 2005, 06:58 PM
dude, your just teasing us now ....

04 April 2005, 07:55 AM (

Modelling the straps for these shoes was a real pain and definately something that i'm glad to have gotten out of the way. I'm quite pleased with how they've turned out - an extra bevel on the edges gives them better shape and makes them look more strap like.

04 April 2005, 09:05 AM
yeah! the shoes are really great ..

04 April 2005, 09:28 AM
Wow this woman gonna be godess :) nice modleing... Ill have to model women too :) hope ill do it as good as you :D

Great modeling!

<Marat (kz)>
04 April 2005, 09:51 AM
hoho! great work...damn can't wait utill the final render

04 April 2005, 10:16 AM
hmm,well.thats great!

everything is ok to me! shoes are dead on! damn! very nice,,,good luck, mate.
edit:wowwww! i saw the other pages and figures, now! they are incredile! verryy realistic! u a real 3dmodeller! very nice modellling skill uv got! how did u get into this high level of quality in modelling???:bounce:

04 April 2005, 10:53 AM
Excellent work man..i like that slowly while u are dressing her body ..she sis starting more and more sexy....i also like the extra care u give on her shoes....

Can't wait to see her sitting on the bar with leg over the other and see those long legs ...

04 April 2005, 03:34 PM
It's great to read what you guys would like to see in your dream woman! Sadly I can't cater for everyones tastes but nevertheless it's good to get a feel of what the average ideal is. Plenty of people have suggested smaller breasts but hey, what can I say, i'm a breast man! Come to think of it, maybe i'll make them bigger... :)

Versiden - Nice idea about the long dress, at the moment i'm really not sure what she'll be wearing. I've got so much else to model and so little spare time that she might just end up naked! Which would probably be no bad thing!

Kragh - yeah, i'm not too sur eaboutt he stripper thing either. On one hand it means less work (and things are getting tight already) but on the other I think the image will be losing a lot of it's subtleness. Tough one, I guess time will tell on this one...

Thanks to everyone else for their comments and support, I hope to have a textured model to post soon...

04 April 2005, 03:45 PM
really great modeling! legs look really good, her feet looks good, though she could use some nails :P . Got not much too crit, would love too see her textured and with hear..:scream:

04 April 2005, 03:54 PM
Excellent modeling you have here my friend,
about her breasts... hmm.. the bigger the better mate! :scream: :bounce:
only one thing though, her face looks to me more like a guy,
dunno, but there is something strange there.
then again... may be it's just Me.

anyway, time it's runnig out! go! go! go!

04 April 2005, 04:43 PM
Swamps.. good modeling man. I wish this idea were more exaggerated, thus making it more obvious what you had in mind.. anyways very nice

04 April 2005, 03:47 PM
I'm actually having major thoughts about a big shift in concept. I'm well aware of how time is short out and like the idea of keeping the girl with as little clothing on a possible so I'm leaning towards the idea of using the girl as a pole dancer...

I envisage a scene where she is draped seductively round a pole in a nightclub with all the guys waving money at her. They are slaves to her beauty, she's a servant to the big bucks she's earning.

I can light it in a way that means less modeling of other characters giving me the time I need to make the female as good as poss. I was initially planning a stylised approach to the characters but the modeling of the female went better than I planned so now I think i'll concentrate on her and go all out for photorealism.

Hopefully i'm making the right decision...

Thanks for all your C&C, textured boobies are imminent... :)

04 April 2005, 03:52 PM
hey dude, to cut down on modelling, why not put her in spot light, with the siloet of man in dirty trench coats around the stage... then maybe just have their hands grasping money lluminated..... just a thought

04 April 2005, 04:57 PM
You make the modeling look effortless though i'm sure it's been much more than that. I'm new to your thread but like what I'm seeing.

04 April 2005, 02:05 AM
your foot model likes illustration! looking nice:)

04 April 2005, 08:09 AM (

Finaly I have got round to texturing her. There's still plenty of work to be done on the textures themselves and loads of seams are still showing but they'll be sorted soon.

04 April 2005, 08:40 AM
Incredible. GREAT. I like it so much.

04 April 2005, 09:37 AM
Man, you really know how to deal with realistic human forms !

I was lurking in this thread sometimes but now i subscribe, it's excellent, nothing to crit about modeling and shading !

The idea is really interesting, i can't wait to see more, keep updating

04 April 2005, 11:45 AM
Well done, realistic, lovely and beliveable. Maybe i can meet with her somewhere at the city...

congrats! Also nice work withtextures!

04 April 2005, 11:58 AM
great job on the textures.. what are u using as a skin solution? any hints? ;p

04 April 2005, 12:03 PM
ciao swamp, truly beautiful the shader of the skin, is procedural or there are of the texture map?

04 April 2005, 12:05 PM
Yes! yes! :bounce:  :bounce:
More! more! more! :applause:

Great work with textures mate!

04 April 2005, 12:44 PM
nice. tex is beautiful but isn't there too much specular? also these highlights could use some soft noise cause they aren't too natural as for now.
the figure is very sexy and I can't wait till you pose her.

04 April 2005, 02:18 PM
Cheers for all the great comments guys. To answer a few of the points/questions raised:

Versiden: The skin is nothing very special - It's a standard max material with the usual diffuse, specular and bump maps in their relevant places. The trick is more in the lighting. I'm using Brazil's Skylight for my ambient and a couple of omni's to pick out the highlights. That's it really. other than a tweak of the levels in photoshop. I'll post my textures in a minute so you can see them and tomorrow i'll post a series of progressive renders so you can see exactly how it works.

Gianluca: Ciao. It's all texture mapping. I was thinking about using a proceeduaral base to avoid some of the seams but decided against it. If you look carefully at where her arms meet her body you can see the seams that I have yet to blend in...

Grooshka: She is quite shiny but that's because I want her to look oiled up. I've knocked the shine back on her face as that never looks good. Some noise of the highlights is a good point, ill look into that. Cheers man.

04 April 2005, 02:20 PM
wow :applause: this is a wonderful mesh girl ... lol ... I really like the quality of your model and texture look really fine for me.
:applause: + :wip:

04 April 2005, 02:27 PM
Fantastic model. Great proportions. The texture is good and I know it is still in the works, but to me she kinda looks like she just had a full body chemical peel so she looks like she has a bit of a burn all over her body. Mostly in the neck area. But it is all still awesome work keep it up.

04 April 2005, 02:28 PM
Im speechless. Great model, great textures. Thats HOT!

04 April 2005, 03:22 PM (

Here's the diffuse and specular textures for the moodel. They're still WIP so are pretty scrappy.

And the flattened breasts look very scary indeed...

04 April 2005, 03:28 PM (

A close up of the torso - probably the most finshed and effective part of her so far.

04 April 2005, 03:31 PM
Aha...update again! I'm in love...Excellent texturing

04 April 2005, 05:15 PM
Impressive !

04 April 2005, 05:17 PM
I like the texture. But I don't know about shaders you are planing to do. You it is very dependent on the scene as whole, so it's hard to judge for me. I just too often see good works spoiled with "oiled skin". Well, if you are "'pro" it's not a problem, but if you are not... So maybe it's better to think twice.

My thread, if you are interrested

I like it! I wish you'll finish everything in time :) waiting for updates. for those guys especially :)

but I agree with Grigorij about skin looks like wet now..

04 April 2005, 06:26 PM
amazingg man.. what a f*$% hot girl.. hehe..
waiting to see more
best luck.. c ya !

can u show the shader ? =) thnxx !

04 April 2005, 07:57 AM
HolyJoe: I think I know what you mean. I need to balance out the diffuse color as it's still showing lots of shadow and highlights from the original photographs, pariticularly giving her a dark neck. Should be fixed soon.

suk-grigorij: She is quite shiney but then she is an exotic dancer so I think she should be. I guess it's a case making the highlights work correctly - a challenge in itself :)

gra7: Cheers, glad you like her. I'll post the shader for you to check out, although it's nothing very special (see my first post on this page). Check back in a day or two.

Thanks to everyone else who's posted.

Superb breast... err, I mean, model!

way to go mate! :bounce:

Fine texture...realy good.
Keep it i think you will, haha.

04 April 2005, 12:27 PM (

I've spent an evening tweaking all the features of her face. She is a huge improvement on the previous one, which is why I never posted a close up of it before :) Probably still go a bit of tweaking to do to refine her beauty but generally she's coming on well.

04 April 2005, 02:41 PM
Thats one hell of a modelling and texture job.
Brilliant work

04 April 2005, 03:14 PM
Great texture work David. Although the makeup seems a bit dark...have you done test with some slightly lighter colors?? It'd be a shame to lose such nice modeling details (now the area looks a bit flat because no light is defineing it)

Can't wait to see some more progress. She's coming along real fine

04 April 2005, 04:33 PM
Ave swamps,
Pro-done modelling and very well-done texture work..I think texture progress hasn't finished yet some small adjustments like hue and stauration values appear to be necessary...
Once a pro always a pro!!

04 April 2005, 11:20 PM
Versiden: The skin is nothing very special - It's a standard max material with the usual diffuse, specular and bump maps in their relevant places. The trick is more in the lighting. I'm using Brazil's Skylight for my ambient and a couple of omni's to pick out the highlights. That's it really. other than a tweak of the levels in photoshop. I'll post my textures in a minute so you can see them and tomorrow i'll post a series of progressive renders so you can see exactly how it works.

you've made it work really well. hoping to see more, face is looking good. I would increase the highlights on the lips

04 April 2005, 05:37 AM
HI :)

Sorry for broken link to my WIPs, it seems I've put "http://" twice. It should work now.

I must write it again, your chick is wonderfull. I like the detailed muscles especially on the neck. Great modeling and also texturing. It's only one thing I would change - hair. Textured hair look a bit flatten.

Great work, I'd like to see next updates

Whew, this was a mission. I really hate skinning characters more than anything else in 3d. It's always worthwhile though, I guess.

I wasn't too sure about hanging the head backwards at first as I've put so much effort into the face. However it just seems to work so well with the rest of the pose and the form in general that I think i'll be leaving it as it is.

A bold, discerning maneuver or a shameful waste of time and effort? You tell me... :)

04 April 2005, 09:31 AM
your char is posed very well.
very good work. keep it up... :p

04 April 2005, 10:03 AM
very nice

I suppose if u want to show the face you could play around with more poses... you're right it's a shame for it not to show

04 April 2005, 10:24 AM
Oh ...sssflit! ..hahahah....yeha...i say ..YEAH...hahah....

Ok......bring some more tension to the arm that holds the metal column and if u want to show her face..welll ...make another one dancer out of her a different sexy pose....(and bend this one's head more backwards...)
I hope it's not a stupid idea.....but in any case u made a slave out of me for this lady...heheheh

That's going great...i like your workflow on this...

What a stunning piece and great pose. Leave the head like that.
Looks perfectly fitting.

;>) Jake

04 April 2005, 11:08 AM
Impressive model... viewing it posed now is more impressive it look so fine and real.

04 April 2005, 11:19 AM
Hey, first of all, good work, i loved this woman, very atractive. Just one think, look the position of the foot and of the knee, I think that you can rotate the knee a little for inside. Keep the good work.

04 April 2005, 03:35 PM
Cheers guys, some really good comments here.

Kryhoo - Yep the hair is rubbish I agree, however it's kind of place holderish until I can get round to doing something decent. Now she's throwing her head back it's less of an issue although I still want to get something in there.

3dRaven - It is quite dark makeup but it's all part of my cunning plan to avoid having to add too much detial - such as eyelashes. Although, once again with the new pose it's all academic anyway. Thanks for your input.

J++Dragon - Hmm, you're probably right about the hue/saturation. I've tweaked it on the recent render, what do you reckon?

Versiden - I agree it's a shame to hide the face but the pose just fits. Maybe i'll do like Dimitris suggests and stick another character in there somewhere. Antoher idea is to put some mirrors in around her, that way you'll get to see a lot more of my hard graft...

Dimitris - I thought about the tension in her right hand as that is where she's be supporting a lot of her weight but then I thought nah, I like it in that pose and getting a hand to clench tightly is always a head ache. I'll go back and look at this if I find I have time. Cheers for pointing it out though. Also I like the idea of another dancer in the scene, maybe in the background, i'll definately look into that.

Banzato - Good call! That knee is way out, hadn't spotted that before you mentioned it. The system works! :)

Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to comment, alway appreciated.

04 April 2005, 03:46 PM
looking great!...nice work with model * texture...and so cool pose.:) i like so much...
waiting for your next update...going nice`mate!

04 April 2005, 09:05 AM (

I've played about a bit with some different colours for the shoes and underwear - liking the pink. Plus I like the contrast of the skin against the blue background even if it is temporary until I can work out what's going on back there...

04 April 2005, 12:49 PM
Great job so far mate! I think the pink is working...just an idea for the background, how about some mirrors? Could be kinda might even be able to catch a different view of her face if the angle is right. I dunno, just a thought...Keep up the great work!

04 April 2005, 01:08 PM
pink is is gooood, haha. Actually, the whole model is good and getting better.

just amazing and can't wait to see more,

Keep it up

04 April 2005, 09:43 PM
Hey David,
I musn't look I musn't look I mustn't .... oh I looked. Very nice bit of... modeling. Strangely I like the shoe work. You've put some time in there I think. Keep it coming I'll be watching.

04 April 2005, 02:15 AM
Swamps, You have a great modelling skill! I particulary love the belly! About the breast, its all about taste ;) The skining is great! Just 2 things looks strange to me: 1) the knee - For me it seems he broke it. 2) the left hand - Dont know why, but (for me again) it apears as she is not holding the pipe. meybe turn it a little more and close (just a little) the fingers.
Well, what i can say? its a great work you have here! keep it up!

Good luck!

Rafael Martinez

04 April 2005, 07:35 AM
oh yeah! nice pose swamps. everything is superb except her left leg and especially the calf. it should be streched on sides lightly because of great flexion. also the knee could be more accented. last problem is thigh: it's too thick near the knee (where it should be more slim). I think you could fix these in no time. hope any of this helps, because I like this thread very much.
shining is now great.

04 April 2005, 11:18 AM
rynomyte - I had thoughts of using mirrors in the background and I tried a few experiments but found that unless the mirrors were very close to her it was hard to get a decent composition as her reflection will always be twice as far away from her as the mirror is... I've come up with a new composition that i've just mocked up and will post shortly. There's going to be a bar and some excited male onlookers in the background. I reckon that'll will work better. Cheers for the suggestion.

Martinez3d - Someone else noticed the knee, i've just about fixed it and will post a new version soon. As for the hand I agree but am loath to change it as it looks quite nice at a purely modeling level, and getting her to hold it tightly will be quite tricky, i'll look into it. Thanks for pointing those out.

grooskka - hey man, I see your point on the calf, as it is that pose is just how character studio skinned her first time out - which isn't too bad really. I see your point though, I need to go in and adjust that bit manually. Also will try the thigh a bit slimmer and now I look at it the top of the thigh is an odd shape too. Cheers man, you've definately helped.

Thanks again to everyone who's posted, particualarly those with constructive criticism as they really do help.

04 April 2005, 03:30 PM (

I've blocked out a new background now that my original concept has changed a bit. Characters to build include two very over excited males in the middle ground, a bar man (probably going to be an old guy) and a fith character proping up the bar to the right (maybe a bouncer keeping a watchful eye over the proceedings). Lots basically :)

The lighting is an HDRI map (of an outdoor scene funnily enough) with two omnis (with various fall off settings) to give red and blue highlights from either side.

04 April 2005, 08:23 PM
It's a honor to write here directly after your update! Am  now, so it's really hard to type. Comments? I can't do that now.... maybe later... still in

04 April 2005, 09:40 PM
Maybe stick a dollar bill through the side of her panties? Or give her a satin and lace leg garter for holding tips?? Just a thought. Looks great so far

04 April 2005, 09:45 AM (

This is the start of the bar man. He's looking a bit stern at the moment but that'll be easily fixed once he's fully modelled. I want him to be an old, wise looking fellow, watching the two younger guys with a 'been there, done that' smile.

04 April 2005, 09:48 AM (

Meshsmoothed Barman...

04 April 2005, 09:57 AM
AWESOME topology :)
say hello to Levi :)

04 April 2005, 10:04 AM
hey Swamps, great modelling! i loved the pose! cant wait to see it textures!

04 April 2005, 10:17 AM
Hey swamps, looking good, but I have some problems with the horizontal construction of the loops on the side of the face/cheek area, I made a little paintover to suggest the general flow you could try in that area.look on the photo how the cheek seems to flow up and around...
just a thought...

04 April 2005, 12:34 PM
3d Raven - Great minds and all that...! Only yesterday I downloaded some huge dollar bill references (i'm expecting the FBI any minute) :) and also got some good garter ref too. Should be adding them within the next day or two.

Maxho - Well spotted! The only place to get chracter rerference photos! :)

Madlight - I hope to have a textured head up soon and body soon thereafter. Only 27days left...
PBlades - Yeah, good call. The topology in this case was (semi :) ) intentional as I always find that I never have enough verts to model in the ear and end up with a lot of five point polys and tris where the ear meets the cheek. Thanks for takin the time to do the paintover i'll definately look into it. Cheers man.

04 April 2005, 12:09 PM (

I've enjoyed modeling this old guy as he has so much more character than younger chaps. I'm particularly pleased with his big ears and saggy jowels.

I can't wait to get him textured and it's almost a shame that he takes up such a small area of my composition - maybe another think's on the cards :)

04 April 2005, 12:15 PM
really nice stuff swamps, I remember your other challenge entery, the one in your avatar, I voted for it :)

04 April 2005, 09:15 PM

yeah i think the textures worked quiet well for you man.. great job.. !!

04 April 2005, 10:16 AM
Just great texturing,,so accurate,,please,teach me. :) :)

04 April 2005, 10:52 AM
REALLY AWESOME texture on AWESOME model :). Great work :)

04 April 2005, 10:55 AM
Hi Swamps,AMazing! really gr8! but i think u havnt applied the shader yet, have u?Textures are so accurate but if u have SSS on it,(as ur the master of texturing,we know!)it would be looking unbelievable!

keep it up!

04 April 2005, 11:07 AM
Amazing texturing, I guess you handpainted that from scratch, or did you use a photographic material? Anyway, the result is really cool!

04 April 2005, 11:36 AM
great modeling and texturing  i think his lips could be a bit more defined.

04 April 2005, 11:39 AM
Yeah, texturing is really cool, studyin' from you now :bounce:

04 April 2005, 01:21 PM
awseom model and texture dude.... keep it up

04 April 2005, 01:51 PM
beautiful job of texturing! my opinion: I would increase the value of specular channel of the skin.

good luck

04 April 2005, 02:11 PM
wow

Great job man. Really great models and texturing.

04 April 2005, 02:49 PM
just spamming your thread with another wow thats amazing :)

he looks a litlle like a game model at the moment, i think its the harsh shadows and lack of sss especially around the nose. i assume this will come later in the pipeline. other than that its amazing!

edit: oh and the eyes aswell, looks a little lifeless (but that kinda works well). needs a bit of shine or somthin, Look at putting a a bit of water around the bottom of the eye (in a concave shape). this should give him a bit of life too

04 April 2005, 03:27 PM
wow! the textures are great, are they photo based or have you painted them?
good work!

04 April 2005, 03:30 PM
Wow! This old man is completely awesome!

04 April 2005, 03:39 PM
I like the face and the textures. Only the eyebrows are looking a little weird, imo. They somehow don't look like "hairs". The wrinkles and colors are awesome. Did you already try your lights on your model? I agree that in the current light settings it is lacking a little specularity.

04 April 2005, 03:48 PM
i agree about the lips, but its awesome man:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 04:49 PM
Great texturing, looks very natural... The same question like Bea asked : is it painted or photo?

04 April 2005, 05:50 PM
Wow, lots of great responses here. Thanks guys.

AcOrN - Cheers man, hopefully this peice will prove worthy of your vote too :)

Maxko - Sorry dude, H is kinda near K :)

Air - I don't know what there is to teach really... I start by rendering to texture with a standard Max Skylight with a simple proceedural skin texture assigned to the model and then, using photographic reference start to build up the texture on top of it in Photoshop. No big secrets to reveal i'm afraid...

Madlight_1988 - The texture is pretty basic at the moment, it's just using diffuse, spec and bump channels on a standard max material. SSS would be nice but, with my current composition at least, he's not really going to be very big on the screen so I wonder if such details might get lost. We'll see, cheers for the post.

jarvetu - It's a bit of a combo of photographs, rendered to texture proceedural mapping and good old fashioned hand painting (probably in that order too).

Smaddl - Yeah the lips probably could be a bit more defined although it's kind of a feature of his old age.

Gianluca - A bit more specualr is probably a good call, I will try it once he's merged into the main scene.

Captain_Stinky - Great name, yeah i'll probably be giving him some SSS, although he won't be this big in the final scene so i might not bother. Same for the eyes really although I see your point on them. Cheers.

Bealobo - As above, the textures are a combo of photographs, rendered to texture proceedural mapping and good old fashioned hand painting (probably in that order too).

Fer3d - Well the eyebrows aren't perfect but not bad considering they're just textured on. Again, as he won't be nearly this big in the final scene, I reckon I'll get away with it. As for specular, he does need a bit, i'll tweak the settings when he's in the main scene. Thanks for the post.

Crying Horn - Hey man, check out my replys to Bealobo and Jarvetu. Glad you like it, cheers.

04 April 2005, 06:31 PM
hey Swamps.. excellent texturing work dude.. it looks very realistic atm.. keep working on it..
maybe add a slight bit of highlights to the skin..

keep it up!

04 April 2005, 06:36 PM
This face is very good. I cant wait to see the final image. Your work is exelent. Keep going.

04 April 2005, 06:48 PM
Great job David ! the texture and render are great !

04 April 2005, 07:09 PM the man  Excellent texture work on the barman. I'd add some hdri to his eyes they've got a nice spec to them but seem a bit empty besides that.

04 April 2005, 11:55 AM (

The barman's hands and arms. He'll be wearing a short sleeved white shirt and bow tie.

04 April 2005, 12:00 PM (

Rendering of the Barmans hands. I'm pleased with how these have turned out. I've never done an old guy before and adding wrinkles to a model is a lot of fun - plus they hide a multitude of sins :)

I'm particularly happy with the backs of the hands and the elbows...

04 April 2005, 02:45 PM
Hi man! Great texture work here! Impressive!:) All your work is very well done...:applause: congrats and keep it up friend.

04 April 2005, 03:30 PM
Wow, and i came here to give u a hand!!, U should give one to me! :scream::D

04 April 2005, 03:30 PM
WOW! The stuff you show off here is soooo damn nice & awesome & amazing! This is the first time I passed your (this) thread, but it immediately was one of my favorites in this challenge!

Especially the level of photoreality you achieve is AWESOME! :)

By the way: you Machineflesh challenge-final was (also :applause: ) awesome, and I must say that I was quite inspired by it, and I've 'put that inspiration' into my Master & Servant-concept... I hope you don't mind to much....

By the way: can you tell a bit of your experience to get (close to) photoreality...? What would be 'the key'? Good texturemaps? A good shader? Because I'm trying to achieve 'the same type' of photoreality yu achieve, tips would be very usefull.

Greetz & Allot good luck with this great stuff & I hope you can answer my questions :) ,

04 April 2005, 04:17 PM
Looking great. I personally liked your initial concept, women wearing more stuff seems sexier in a strange way. (must be just me then?) :D I can see how this has more than the simple meaning of men being allured by women, but the woman being the slave to the money too. Great concept, and impressive modelling/texturing.

Sooo many good ones, i'm glad i'm not the final judges!

04 April 2005, 04:29 PM
Cheers guys,

Dutchman, feel free to take whatever inspiration you want from my work man, i'll keep an eye on your stuff and will be happy to give you any pointers you want. For starters you ask about photo realistic renderings. Phew, where to start. Firstly, I'd like to point out that I have yet to render a human that I would consider photo-real, doesn't stop me pushing for it though :)

As for 'the key' to getting close I don't think there is one. Good reference is a must - both for modeling (import the images into your scene and work over them) and for using in your textures. Attention to detail is also very very important. When faking something as instanly recognisable as a human face you can't afford to get any feature wrong or it will immeditely be exposed as a fraud, even to the untrained eye.

Good shaders are important but probably not as important as lighting. Try experimenting with different renderers and HDRI maps can add a lot. Also, don't be afraid to post-process your images. I often play with the levels and bung on a few layer effects in Photoshop. This isn't cheating and can dramatically improve even a very basic render.

A mate of mine recently asked me similar question to you as he was getting frustrated with the result he ws getting using similar techniques to me. All I can say is experiment, experiment, experiment. There's no one solution, the cool thing is that every time you turn on your computer, even if it's just for five minutes you get a little bit better.

Good luck with your work, hope this post helps. Laters.

Lardbros, thanks man. I know what you mean about her being sexier in clothing - it's weird but it must be to do with leaving more to the imagination. I've changed my composition again, althuogh havn't posted it yet, and hopefully that'll address this issue a bit.

04 April 2005, 04:37 PM
ok Swamps,ur absolutly right! those hands are great too! keep it up,friend!

04 April 2005, 01:46 AM
this is ridiculously stunning, hell,i dont know what i am saying:argh::argh::wip:

04 April 2005, 02:11 AM
Wow! I need to learn to make textures like that! they look so real! Congratulations!

Just a comment, the transversal scars in the arm, in the superior view, are a little repetitive, maybe would look better if they were just 2 or 3

04 April 2005, 10:19 AM
Once again, thanks for the great posts.

Mosconariz - I know what you mean. I couldn't find any decent reference of old man arms so had to bodge the texture together using hand reference. Admitedly thay are a bit repetitive and undoubtedly anatomically inacurrate but for the size they're going to end up in the final image I think they should be acceptable. Although maybe i'll fix some of the repetitiveness you point out. Cheers man.

04 April 2005, 09:51 AM
it is looking great.
and more important... it will look great on the picture.

thanks for the comments about photorealism and so.

04 April 2005, 11:10 AM (

The drooling fool with texture. The model is pretty much nailed but the texture is still wip and is his tongue and teeth. I think i'll add some drool sliding off his tongue too...

04 April 2005, 11:17 AM
He's disgusting!

04 April 2005, 11:20 AM (

Whoops, meant to upload this one - much better eyes... :)

04 April 2005, 12:08 PM
cool textuing .......keep it up .......... jst great

04 April 2005, 12:21 PM
Not long since i last posted, but you sure as hell work quickly. This drooling guy is foul, but absolutely spot on. As you said, the tongue and teeth are WIP, so i won't bother commenting as it still looks bloody great.

He looks like he's had a few drinks  and like a right pervert   . Another great job of texturing and modelling.

04 April 2005, 01:01 PM
Great job, it's amazing how fast you make those characters and so well, I especially liked the texture of the arms, great job so keep it up!

The second of 'The Three Fools', as they will henceforth be known. I'd like pivot this guys head up so he really looks like he's mesmorised.

04 April 2005, 04:28 PM (

I've been able to knock these guys out quite fast - one a night, should have the third by tomorrow - as they all share the same topology. I'm trying to make them as unique as possible through skin tone and expressions as well as just vertex tweaks.

04 April 2005, 05:18 PM
haha very cool, nice expression. He looks bedazled or stoopified with a little sleeze in there haha

nice 1!

only crit is that aroudn the eyes it seems like u've got the smudge tool and made big circles around his eyes, doesnt look too bad but a little distracting for me. could be the lighting though...

04 April 2005, 06:12 PM
very very very nice:scream::bounce:

Nice work and excellent textures! Your working a light speed.

I can't wait to see the final!

04 April 2005, 12:45 PM
This texture in the model its great, the realism in bump map, details and libs is kicking ass.

Keep the excellent work.

Really nice job. I like it! ;) One note: the mouth corners in "third of the three fools" look incorrectly.

04 April 2005, 09:20 AM
The texturing looks very nice, the shirt looks so real too, the guy's eyes looks a little plastic though. but it might just be the lighting.

04 April 2005, 09:35 AM
I'm speachless... ... amazing

05 May 2005, 07:21 AM
Thanks for all the reposnses, it's good to know i'm going in the right direction.

hhssuu - hmm, think you're right. I can neer be bothered to make 3d eyes, I tend to go for spheres with an HDRI relfection for depth. Maybe needs ot be turned up a bit or something - sheers.

Axisman - It does look a bit wierd I agree. I'm going for a forced cheesy grin type look so that's why it's a bit more closed at the corners.

Dimitirs - Good to hear that you're starting to recognise my style. I'm getting pretty quick at banging out heads - its bodies that I can never be bothered with :)

Neeno - Yeah, I spotted that light forehead thing after I posted. I'll definately be fixing it. Cheers for pointing it out.

CaptainStinky - I think the smudgey circle thing is a combo of ligthing and specular highlights left over from my texture reference photos. The lighting will change, the texture i need to fix. Good call.

Cheers to everyone else who's posted, now back to work - not long left now...

05 May 2005, 06:50 AM
David nice texturing you did there, and great work on the modeling.

05 May 2005, 09:09 AM (

I've got all the characters into the scene and have started exeperimenting with lights. Theres still a lot of stuff to do, once i'm happy with the composition and lighting i'll be going through and polishing every element of the scene.

05 May 2005, 09:32 AM
oh yeah, that's great! :) I can hear the music and feel cigaretes smoke:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 10:02 AM
Great composition, those 3 guys really look hypnotized by the girl...and me also :D

05 May 2005, 10:09 AM
Good image but her butt looks detached in middled... i think that those 2 halfs need to come little closer to each oterh

05 May 2005, 12:12 PM
Ahhhh....  my hands..i cant type...

Honestly..I like your stuffs. Clean idea, expressive and nice characters. Wel done modelin and amazing textures. All the parts you have now to mix them and tune up with a beautiful render.
Congratulations! This is all what i can say now!

05 May 2005, 12:16 PM
Man that just totally rocks  Where's the garter??

05 May 2005, 12:39 PM
Just for the wip:hmm:
Your stuff is great, but I don't see any creatures.. (like the initial theme), sorry, I'm trying to help
nice work
carry on!

05 May 2005, 02:21 PM
Matheus_Bristol - Having read your post I went back and re-read the instructions. It does mention creatures but my intpretation was and still is that you can include the relationship between human and creature or vice versa, not that you must... I see how the wording could lead to confusion but I'm pretty sure i'm correct and that my image fits the brief quite well (anyone want to jump in here?). Cheers for bringing it up though :)

3D Raven - The garters on the way dude, I've got a list as long as my... arm :) of things to do, that being one of them. For anyone who interested this list includes things such as:

Garter with dollar bills in it
One of the fools waving a dollar at her
One of the fools holding a cigar/cigarette
The barman will be pouring out three cocktails from a shaker
Repositioned and reskinned girls to the left and right
Textured whip
Textured Shirt for fool2
Background... (?)
Smoke/Volumetric lights
Bar and podium textures

This list is as much for me as anyone else, the first thing i'll be sorting out is the lighting and general composition as i'm not currently 100% happy, I feel I need to get the focus of the image right before I go through and polish everything to a finished standard.

Marcovicd - You're probably right about that, i'll look into it... :)

Thanks for the other posts, and good luck to everyone.

05 May 2005, 02:34 PM
I agree that it's not necessary to show exact human-creature in here.

05 May 2005, 03:12 PM
Looks so real. Wow, great use of the shaders and textures

05 May 2005, 03:44 PM
hey,Swamps, havnt seen these skills all in one! this is greatt!;)

05 May 2005, 09:14 AM (

I've tried some different lighting. I quite like this although it's maybe a bit light for a strip club...

05 May 2005, 09:23 AM
Hey man...highlits a re better but indeed u have too much light ...especially on the back wall....try only a spot for the lady back there....the only problem is that u have too much light for a strip bar...(don't forget that u need some volumetric smoke effects....i think).

Keep moving man..this is one of my favourites already :wise: .

05 May 2005, 01:02 PM
Thanks Dimitris, I planning a background with some sillouetted bodies and volumetric lights and stuff so that should look better. Also, I will definately be adding some volumetric smoke, although render times are already starting to look a bit scarey... :)

Cheers man.

05 May 2005, 01:18 PM
....although render times are already starting to look a bit scarey... :)

Cheers man.

Hahahahah...i know what u mean...hahahah ...cheers man and good continuation on this..:)

05 May 2005, 03:17 PM
Hey Swamps, fabulous stuff... love the composition, it kinda reminds me of The Prodigy's 'Smack my bitch up' video... not quite sure why, think it may be the ending?

Anyway, just been wondering if you are going to use any DOF effects? Was thinking that maybe if her legs were slightly out of focus it might make it clearer that it's a reflection? Oh, i dunno... just throwing ideas around my own head. Looking brilliant so far, and agree that the lighting is too bright (obviously an assumption, i've never been in one) for a strip bar. How about a 3d Peter Stringfellow for the BG :D Actually, to get some truly realistic long silver hair and slimy looking old face could take some doing! :D

05 May 2005, 03:21 PM
wow,how amazing ! ,all the best:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

05 May 2005, 05:58 PM
Lardbros, depth of field is defintely something that I have been thinking about but i'm already rendering very slowly - 5 hours just for that one above, dof just kills it. This gives me good mind to render to layers and then fake it afterwards in photoshop. That'd give me more control over it too...

As for Stringfellow, I think i'll leave him out of this one - you're right he'd be a mission to model :)

Cheers man.

05 May 2005, 07:01 PM
great composition swamps! I'm glad your work is becoming a masterpiece. these legs look really nice and sexy. it's only 13 days left. keep it up!

thats a really insightful and highly amusing image, you have captured it so well - such insights only come from experience :D. did you do much research for the piece if you know what i mean (wink wink). i like the old dude in the background whos like "yeah whatever" you know he gets his freebies once a week.

the look on the guy in blue is gonna have me chuckling for days.

05 May 2005, 09:20 AM (

Well i'm finally becoming happy with the lighting - i've dedicated most of his week to getting it right. From now on in i'll be adding all the details that i've yet to get round to.

05 May 2005, 09:46 AM
Looks REALLY great!! Like the lighting! (and of course those LEGS)
Keep it up!

you will get my community award vote you can be sure of that. what a classy and original idea.

05 May 2005, 06:09 PM (

You know when you're half way through something and you suddenly have a much better idea...?

Well I just wasn't at all happy with the way things were going with the image so I've had (another) major re-think. It started with me making the female prettier and looks like it'll end with an almost entiely new image.

I loved the lighting of one of my test renders with the girl on a blue background and, after reading the bit in the rules about iconic imagery, decided that I just wasn't hitting the spot with what I was trying to do before.

The render here shows pretty much what i've got in mind. She still needs a few tweaks but gernerally i'm happy with the pose. The three guys will be in a similar place between her legs and hopefully I can squeeze the barman in somewhere...

05 May 2005, 06:55 PM
I love the pose:love:... she looks very sexy

05 May 2005, 07:28 PM
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, i fall in love today with your pic, congratulations

05 May 2005, 08:00 PM

05 May 2005, 08:12 PM
Um.......YOWZA! Great pose mate! Boioioing! Keep it, uh.....up. Cheers:beer:

05 May 2005, 08:40 PM
That's what i would call "Legs of Fire".....:)

05 May 2005, 09:50 PM
Like the pose also (and the legs) what i really like is the face texture! Great Job!

hey, nice ass baby.
i like the tongue in cheek and humour of your entry, i hope you win a prize.

05 May 2005, 08:47 AM
god! it's a bit rude now. but I can understand it's intended. she's more natural now than ever though. and she looks 100% real. good rude job! ;)

05 May 2005, 09:40 AM
great,but her hair sucks... :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 02:59 PM
I love the pose

Great !!:bounce: :bounce:

05 May 2005, 06:21 PM
It realy improves things but it all comes down to the composition of the image...
be carefull not to waste this beuty!

05 May 2005, 10:17 PM
Its perfect , But ur skining has some problemes .
anyway goodluck ...

05 May 2005, 10:46 PM
oh man wooooooooooooooow,i need a medical check up;):argh:

05 May 2005, 09:18 AM
Well I'm glad to see that i've appealed to your, er, artistic insticts :)

To answer a couple of the issues rasied: Her hair is just temporary - I thought it better than leaving her bald. I'm planning a huge flowing barnet that fills the whole top of the image.

As for the skinning, there are a few anomolies by i'll collapse the stack and tweak it manually now i'm happy with the pose.

Thanks to everyone who has commented, i'm off to get his thing finished

05 May 2005, 03:28 PM
oh my god, very very well pose and camera, e che gnocca ragazzi! :)

05 May 2005, 05:23 PM (

Well i've got some hair in. It's a bit ragged at the moment as i'm rendering at a very low sample rate (the final renders gonna take ages...).

I've also added in the other characters. You'll notice the Barman has been promoted and is now a gawping punter like the rest. This is because I couldn't see a comfortable position for him in the composition as a barman. I think i'll have him mopping his brow.

I've also improved her face with the addition of a bespoke specular map to highlight her lips plus i've smoothed out dome of teh creases in her body.

Theres still lots to do, I want at least one hand for each of the chracters and some sort of background that suggests a lot more guys in there (probably sillouttes).

Next up a garter belt stuffed with bills...

05 May 2005, 06:58 PM
wow great posing, swamps!

05 May 2005, 07:11 PM
Hi Swamps!
First time in your thread and you know what? I think that your re-thinking improved your picture 200%
I love the pose of your girl. I myself spend all my free time drawing hyperdynamic nude woman (well, I"m just a guy you know :) ) I think that kind of pose make the image very attractive and not static at all ... if you know what I mean!
Anyway, great job my friend :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 08:53 AM
This image makes the viewer feel like the master.

05 May 2005, 09:35 AM
Like all red blooded males I like the subject matter but I think the aspect ratio of your image makes it looked cramped. I think it might look better landscape with the "dancer" about a third of the width across and the onlookers spread out from the centre leading the eye across to the barman in the background. Compositionally it would be better, adding depth and leading the eyes across the entire image. At the moment I just can't stop looking at that a$$ :)

05 May 2005, 11:02 AM (

Well i've finaly added that garter i've been talking about for ages.

I've been endlessley playing around with the positions of the guys and have ended up pretty much back where I started with the addition of a couple of characters in the background and some hands waving money - not sure if their positions are final yet.

Also, i've once again tweaked teh female mesh - she now has a knee.

Overall i'm definately getting there. I'll probably play around with stuff, add a few more details whilst i've got time and tweak the hair a bit but otherwise I think i'm probably 90% done.

05 May 2005, 12:02 PM
With hairs she even better

05 May 2005, 08:20 PM
Ginaluca - Cheers man, I'm guessing you like it although I have no idea what 'e che gnocca ragazzi' means. :)

Dizzy Boy - Cheers, glad to know that you like the image, epecially if you spend a lot of time doing this sort of thing.

Aloriael - I hadn't actually thought of that but with her looking at you and ignoring all these wollys behind her I guess you're right. Nice one.

jsdesigns - You may well be right but i'm going to stick with this composition nevertheless. Do you not think that if I went landscape there'd be so much space to fill that the image would seem empty - i've struggled to get this much done as it is. I appreciate you mentioning it though

(o)ne - I always knew she'd need hair and finally decided to bite the bullet and make some. I've never got on with shag:hair so thought i'd just try and do my best with standard polys. Probably needs a tweak or two but overall i'm pleased. Cheers man.

05 May 2005, 08:32 PM
you right about it, and this hairs looks very stylish and gives the correct mood I think :bounce:
