Hey, ninja! Good to see you back again! I'm looking forwar to seeing more of your great art, and to your insightful observations! :-)

03 March 2005, 09:29 AM
Well, coz the deadline is less than 2 months from now, and Im still buried in work, its about time to start doing a concept.. so, here is quick idea i came around:

An european civilisation tries to conquer a new world... the action is going on somewhere in south america, at the time of 15-16th century... Mayan (for an example), the inhabitants of the new world r struggling hard, but loosing against the well armoured attacker. So, they choose their last chance for defeating the enemy... they r about to awaken their god, their mythological creature, who will come out of volcano and destroy everything... They r aware that the god will be mad for being disturbed from his sleeping, but they r prepared for anything now.

The pic will be showing the moment when the creature rises from the ground, a huge rock and lava like god, lots of volcanos erupting in the back, and a local magician (whats the right expression for that person?) standing infront of the god, comanding him to rise.. european warriors r running for their lifes towards the "camera".

I hope this story covers the instructions :)

03 March 2005, 09:40 AM
Hi Blaz, off to a good start I see. Looking forward to seeing this idea take shape. Good luck!

Hello Blaz!!!Last time ICE ,now FIRE!!!LOL!!!Great to see you here, and really nice concept you got there man!!!Good luck mate!!:LAter on..:bounce:

03 March 2005, 07:53 PM (

Ok.. this is a quick ugly sketch from todays school lessons. I had to wait for profesor, so this is what I came up with. Its a quick realisation of an idea I posted several posts before... There r still missing some characters in the first plan.. but I have that feeling, that the pic is too complex for this challenge. That I have to reduce the elements and point out just the emotions between the master and his servant.. not the whole story and background.
Will see what will be my next idea.. just to submit something, so I can say that I really started with this challenge :)

03 March 2005, 07:55 PM
i'm already fricken jelous.

03 March 2005, 08:52 PM
Quick ugly sketch? Pfft! You ninjas are so humble. If I saw that picture in a comic book I'd buy it. Good luck in the competition.

03 March 2005, 09:09 PM
Holy buckets! I like that sketch. Want to see if finished. Good luck.

03 March 2005, 09:51 PM

03 March 2005, 10:27 PM
first the turtles and now this.. how'd u like the title "earthshaker" ? :bounce:

03 March 2005, 12:20 AM
Thnx for the replies so far! Well, I'll aproach to that theme with a more serious look, more realistic than that slightly cartoony like. I also have ugly ugly ugly sketch done for a new composition and more diagonal horizont for a better dynamic, but I'll redraw and submit it tomorrow.
Thnx again folx! I hope I'll develop myself further from my turtle pic.

03 March 2005, 12:21 AM
Yep nice one here.

I don't really see where all this will point but your line quality is quite good.

Keep it up ;)

03 March 2005, 01:09 AM
Great line work, I love the stone heads. What did your professor think :)

03 March 2005, 01:19 AM
I actually like the sketch and would only refine it. Don't worry about it being too complex.

03 March 2005, 01:21 AM
Allright so I found yours (my computer crashed on me every time I clicked the link in your signature). The sketch is looking great and the story sounds very interesting, personally I would like to see all those elements you had in mind in the final piece, I don't think it would make it to complex for the viewer as long as that big rising statue with the human figure on top remains clear.

Anyway, looking promesing, good luck, I'll keep checking this one out

03 March 2005, 02:05 AM
Very good sketch, I wish I could draw like that.
Can't wait to see the next one.:)

03 March 2005, 05:33 AM
Good drawing - looking forward to seeing what you come up wiht.
Good Luck!

03 March 2005, 08:07 AM
Wow !! Nice to see you there at first!

You have a really great concept sketch there!
I really like your lines!

Good luck !

03 March 2005, 11:17 AM (

Ok... so there is another ugly sketch of mine. The concept is slightly changed, while there was a sacrificial made, and the local sorcerer drank the blood of the victim... so now he possesses his pour soul, but thats not all. After that was his 1000 victim, the old myth was awaken, the bloodmaster, which will be now the sorcerers servant.
Thats the present concept, but there will be still much work on the characters, especially on the bloodmaster, which looks like a puppy at the moment.
Any crits or suggestions about the outlook for the characters?

03 March 2005, 11:19 AM
how about making the guy that drinks the blood look slightly more pyshcotic??

apart from that damn that great, and disturbing!

03 March 2005, 11:24 AM
I like your second concept, but I do think the human figure on top of the bloodmaster as in your first sketch looked cooler. Although the close-up of the sorcerer looks cool, him sitting on top of the statue emphasises the master servant relationship more IMO.

03 March 2005, 12:50 PM
Great story excelent composition  go ninja go ninja go!

03 March 2005, 02:26 PM
The idea about the island ancinent tribe is a verry nice one. See you in the final round, neighbor;)

03 March 2005, 03:42 PM
I'm really impressed with your linework! your first sketch works well for me! staying tuned...

check ya later

03 March 2005, 03:45 PM
Could as well have been a grad space opera sketch :D I like the style of it a lot but yeah, there's still much work to do. It will be very difficult to visualise all that what you've written... But I'm not worried having seen the magic you made on the last challenge :D

03 March 2005, 05:46 PM
Hi, Good starting I want to see the continuation, Good luck

03 March 2005, 12:05 AM
:applause: Love it!

03 March 2005, 03:51 PM (

So, here is my new concept. Its true that the previous one fits more to GSO entry than to master and a servant.. or maybe not, but I dont feel comforable with it anymore. So here is something completel different aproach to a theme. Its about a girl taking lives, guided by a death (a master).. but she doesnt want to do that, however she doesnt have any choice. And thats what makes her a servant. I'll be still playing with the composition and bring some more elements to this piece, a knife in her hand maybe, some sand-clocks round the deaths neck, even a shadow in the back wall, of a posible victim.. just thinking. Tell me what u think?
I'll reply today in the evening, when I could take some time.. im just too busy at the moment, but I didnt miss a single post from u guys, so thank u very much for u cooperation! :)

03 March 2005, 11:38 PM (

an update of a previous idea...

03 March 2005, 11:49 PM
I like the composition and colors, but i think it needs some more information to tell the story.

03 March 2005, 11:54 PM
Nice colors and concept, but I agree that it needs more defining still. Good luck! :D

03 March 2005, 11:54 PM
thnx dogdoy. I know that.. im just so without any ideas that hurts :) I'll try to figured out something, how to show servant job that she is doing for the death. Thnx for stoping by!

03 March 2005, 12:02 AM
this idea i gotta say i like more than the previous one...

very inspiring

03 March 2005, 12:06 AM
Me too! Looks like it could get mighty interesting! :) Very spooky illustration...

03 March 2005, 01:43 AM
this will be interesting,i kinda like this idea,i'll stay tuned for more of urs.

03 March 2005, 03:23 AM
very good how you made the dark figure in the background almost like a "suggestion" to the female, as if it were in the mind. If you go with that concept, it will be pretty sweet because IO have not seen anyone go with that.

Good luck!!

03 March 2005, 04:34 AM
Hey Blaz, welcome back!

Nice start, not as much time as on the gso, not that you have to worry, you seem to bang out some really great stuff in not alot of time.
I like the direction of the earthshaker, very original!!

03 March 2005, 05:38 AM
yes...much better than the previous ones. I wasa thinking of a death centered m and s myself. i like ur sketch style

03 March 2005, 06:05 AM
hey, I really like your style, seems like they can really move :applause:

03 March 2005, 07:30 AM
nice work so far..i like the colors in that last one..i'll look forward for more updates

good luck :)

03 March 2005, 10:53 AM
Great light and colors ,really love the concept(the last one).Keep it up:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 11:21 AM
Good concept with good light and color, nice work i wait the continuation:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 12:27 PM
Firs of all, I would really like to thank to all of u who stopped by :)

Squibbit: thnx man, I found it more fiting to the theme as well. Will develop it further.

Poshspice: thnx :) I'd like to shock with this piece, not just show some shallow releationship. So the illustration will be spooky at the end. At least I hope so.

BatskyStarman: U've got the point :) I'd like to make death just as a vision, a ghost in the back. So there probably wont be much elementary elements of a master. The girl is threated as a psyho for all normal people around. But she is truly guided by a death. Thnx for ur support!

newcenturydsn: thnx for stopping by :) I'll try to do my best not complicate too much as I did in GSO challenge. But the earhshaker, if u mean my first concept, will most probably not be realised. Im more sticking with the death concept, coz I could show more relationship drama and emotions inthere I think. We'll see. Thnx again!

ms@zx, W!L, MoodyDog, Stealth Pharaoh, hermine, MDN67: thnx to all of u and dont hesitate to stop by some more. U r in great support :)

03 March 2005, 12:43 PM
So spooky!!!

Nice concept! Our lives are so fragilie as a thread in the hands of death. You don't know what could be the end of your life and how the death will take your soul. If that is your concept, you can call the death master of our lives.:)

Good luck!!! I'll look forward to your next post.

03 March 2005, 05:48 PM
ah yes,SPOOKY exactly what i like.great art man!!

03 March 2005, 10:50 PM
Hey there Ninja! I was curios what you're up to this time, after the last great artwork. I see that you made a great concept so far. I'll be watching your thread very close  Good luck mate!

03 March 2005, 11:21 PM
looks very cool love the mood the sketch invokes. Good luck!

03 March 2005, 12:13 AM
Yeah, I think your latest concept is definately strongest... can't wait to see you develop it more! awesome sketches!

03 March 2005, 12:28 AM (

So here is another upgrade of a previous one... Im sort of happy with the story, but I miss more action between characters.. more emotions, so I'll try to work on that more. Will try several poses of a dead girl on the floor. Maybe struggling for last breath or something.. I said it will be spooky :)

03 March 2005, 12:50 AM (

Yea... more action, struggling for her life, a black death comes through her and took her soul... Maybe one more is coming.

03 March 2005, 01:37 AM (

OK... this is the most sick version of my latest concept. A girl cant control herself, she is under the poses of a death. She doesnt wanna kill, but has no choice. She is a servant to the death.

Those r my thoughts about the death concept. Please help me choose the right direction for further progress. Thnx in advance! :)

03 March 2005, 01:44 AM
I like the second one the best: it has more of an emotional response to me (the poor girl getting her soul ripped from her body by Death). That's the dirrection I'd choose, but it's up to you. :)

03 March 2005, 02:00 AM
oh yeah!!! if you going for this the "struggling for her life" concept its good way to go... anyway you maybe come up with more ideas... great sketches!

03 March 2005, 02:27 AM
cool concept

03 March 2005, 09:05 AM
She could be standing next to a bed where somebody lies in his own blood with the murder weapon in her hands.

I like the idea of controlling the girl with ropes. Nice ;)

03 March 2005, 09:07 AM
very dark mood, cool artwork, wanna see ur next one, keep it up

GoodLux!!

03 March 2005, 09:25 AM
i like the one with the knife that one holds true to the servant part. rename death to evil.

my image also has an evil master more cartoon in style and not as horrific but still evil :)

good luck one of my favorite ideas :)

03 March 2005, 12:58 PM
Thnx guyz! So Im choosing now between struggling for her life (the second concept of last three) and a psyho murderer (the last one). What I've expected :) Im confused now, coz I like both of them, but in third pic I think there is better composition and relation between light and shadow. But I can fix that in the second one as well... aargrgggghhhhh! HELP ME guyz! Please for some more suggestions :scream:

03 March 2005, 04:14 PM
Looking fantastic..........i love this.

Can't wait to see where you go with this.......lovelt mood already!

03 March 2005, 04:30 PM
I'd like to help you, but of the last 3 images I like all very very much but none more than the other :)
I guess this is something only YOU can decide :scream:

Samo A
03 March 2005, 06:34 PM
Rock on! :)

03 March 2005, 06:35 PM
yeh i agree they are all great.

pick the one that u think is most freaky.

03 March 2005, 07:10 PM
Thnx for stopping by! I asked some other ppl from slovenia, and most of them r for the second one, where the girl is struggling for her life. I hope I'll manage to show the pic that I have in my mind here on a digital canvas :) I'll post soon an update of a lineart.

03 March 2005, 09:10 AM
argh! After a while, even in slovenia ppl started being uncertain about which one to pick. Its a true hell... but hearing some nice critics here and there, I'll probably go with the psyho killer sketch (the last posted one). It has some more master and servant theme in itself I think, coz in "struggling for life" there is too much killer/victim relationship. So, I hope I'll find some time to go with the next phase today.

03 March 2005, 09:16 AM
u could always paint some nice bunnies or sumthin

03 March 2005, 09:33 AM
I'll probably go with the psyho killer sketch .

:wise: wise choice my friend!

03 March 2005, 09:37 AM
Damn Squibbit! U just gave me a killer idea!!! Death took her bunny, her favorite one! So, in exchange for that bunny, a girl has to kill 69 people, so the death can go to a nice trip to somewhere, a holiday trip. But, for showing that deal between death and a girl, the death will be painted as a vision uppon the girl, like as the death controls her. Thnx man! U r so full of ideas. hahaha :buttrock:

NOOB!: thnx for support!

03 March 2005, 09:41 AM
last concept is very spooky...maybe she could hold on the other hand some dead cat bleeding or so , i am not joking...this could make it a bit more scary too....I love u 2D guys ...u come with so crazy and awesome ideas...have fun man!

03 March 2005, 08:20 PM (

Ok.. so this is my lineart. I have all key elements in this lineart now, so next step is looking for the color scheme. Any comments r most appreciated!

03 March 2005, 08:21 PM
oo nasty , i hope u can sleep your nights in peace ! :D

03 March 2005, 08:22 PM
this suddenly made me very sad

he even got the tedyy hostage !!

03 March 2005, 08:23 PM
i'm ok now

03 March 2005, 08:37 PM
Great stuff, nice sketch. I'd go for a subdued, rusty colour scheme, one that shows the blood - bwahahaha!

03 March 2005, 08:39 PM
looks great,very nice mood.

03 March 2005, 11:14 PM
very creepy, awesome concept. Your line art looks fantastic- cant wait to see what else you do with it.
Sorry, no criticism to add at this point

03 March 2005, 11:18 PM
I agree with the monochromatic color scheme, I am digging it.

Defently beef up the emotion, she does not look scared enough.

03 March 2005, 11:21 PM
Puppetmaster of Death or something. This is going to be great. Very Morose!

03 March 2005, 11:21 PM
Yes!!! The drawing mocromatic is very good...

I am South American and I was impressed with yours it historizes...congratulations!!

[] ' s

03 March 2005, 11:40 PM
really great Ninja!!!Nice feeling about his one and the look on her face is so expressive!!!
Those people on the back/middleground there in bed I think.Maybe it could be cool to have a few of them more like we're standing a bit more in front of the bed,a bit more near the corner of the bed.
Sorry for my english, but i hope you understand:)
Anyway, really nice concept and really looking forward to see your first color researches!!!

03 March 2005, 07:53 AM
Looking great! You were saying this was your lineart and you were looking for a colourscheme; well going this way colourwise works really well. The sepia gives it a really nice feel, and maybe the colours could be kept within that range...?

03 March 2005, 07:58 AM
This is looking spooky indeed!! I really like this colour scheme and the lighting. I'd agree withs posh about maybe limiting the palette in the final image.

And you can't go wrong with bunny slippers...

03 March 2005, 08:35 AM
Love this last image. Loving the whole puppeteer type concept! Can't wait to see the next stages! Keep them coming!

03 March 2005, 08:45 AM
:scream: :scream: damn that is spooky, right down to the bunny slippers :D , great mood, and I'd agree with keeping the limited palette it's really adding to that mood :bounce:

03 March 2005, 08:51 AM
cant wait to see it finished... great stuff you got there...

03 March 2005, 09:23 AM
For the coloring I would go for darker tones with a light source from the bottom so you can play with the shadows on the characters faces, you know, scary stuff  . On the bottom, where the ex-parents are lying dead on the bed you can apply a more realistic type of rendering and going up to a more monochrome dark-red colors. Am I sick or what? :scream:

03 March 2005, 09:35 AM (

So, Im going for a more or less monochromatic color scheme, a dark one, with a light source from one side.. I hope thats what u meant. Thnx to everybody who stopped by, I'll answer to guyz when I'll come home. Time for school now :)

03 March 2005, 09:38 AM
Wow! Excellent progress, here!

I really like the mood of this, wonderful execution of the expression, too. What I don't quite like is how the line of the floor cuts the picture off - it seems a little too sharp or too dominant, somehow, my gaze drops from the thick black area at the top of the image and straight down to the thick black of the floor. Try to ease up on the contrast there maybe? :]

03 March 2005, 10:31 AM
Well Enayla had great advices :)

Personaly I would prefer not to see the eyes of the puppetmaster, this would make him more frightening. I think too that it will be better to enlarge a bit your image to see the arms of him. Maybe adding space to the left to center the girl in the pic....

03 March 2005, 10:41 AM
personally,i luv it.

the only thing i wud change is...nothing.

ok maybe the eyes as suggested.

03 March 2005, 10:58 AM
I like mood and tone .

03 March 2005, 11:03 AM
I may have nightmares over this one. Great work! Very disturbing!

03 March 2005, 02:57 PM
Hehe, I was hoping you'd leave it monochromatic, just wanted to see where you were going with it. It's definitely getting a darker tone so far.
I recommend that you dont color the eyes though, leave them in the same color scheme. The color just clashes with everything, without standing out in the way it should (plus, just about everyone does it)

03 March 2005, 03:21 PM
I see you replace axe for knife. Maybe you should be more cruel and give her some blunt weapon (like rolling pin  ) just kidding.

Great progress and I hope to see more of it

Bunny on Its shoulders ..

03 March 2005, 06:33 PM
Enayla: Im honoured that u stopped by :) But Im not sure that I completely understand what u meant with sharp/dominant cutting the floor. Now Im planning to add a dropen candle on the right bottom part of the pic, so I will have another light source coming from the bottom, which will help define some elements and I hope bring a more spooky ambient, like taz23 said. Will that help in ur opinion? Thnx again for popping in my thread!

bonestudio: I erase those glowy eyes already. I'll also try to widen the canvas size to the left, but I think that would make the pic unstable, coz the girl is the main character and she is on the left side which makes that side quite heavy already. Will try and see what happens :) thnx for ur advices!

NOOB!: the eyes r gone :) thnx mate!

tuck and stevesherrin: thnx for stopping by! much appreciate it!

sidchagan: I erase those blue tones on the right, so now its even more monochromatic. And like I said to the others, there r no more glowy eyes. Will try to keep it that way :) thnx!

izisilver: thnx again for stopping by mate! The axe is a slightly more cruel weapon, but still handy and always at home. hehe. Bunny is the whole reason for that mess  Stay in touch!

03 March 2005, 07:13 PM (

03 March 2005, 07:49 PM
well hello there Blaz! :)

Good work there, but one thing pops in my mind what you should work. I never really realised that it is a bed in the picture.. I always thought it was the floor and the carpet was over the killed person. That bed line brokes the pictures lower part somehow. Almost like the picture ends.. then a picture of candle begins.. Hope you get the idea?

When it comes to the objects in the picture.. Try to think of more deepful meaning.. Like that hourglass. Maybe after hour she can touch and fondle that bunny after that she must kill to do it again, but to be able to kill for a toy well thats pretty hardcore Blaz

Good points for youre picture receives that girl face.. Well done good emotion
Also those arm poses are good

03 March 2005, 07:58 PM
Thnx Falcor_! Some very useful advices and u opened my eyes.. some things I understood just now, even that probably other users tried to tell me before. I'll sure correct that missunderstanding with a bed.
And about that bunny and hardcore.. I confess... Im sick.. life around me is just too perfect and beautyful so I have to imagine my own horror stuff to eqalize it ;) joke! Thnx again for popping in!

03 March 2005, 08:04 PM
It's looking great! I like the way you are coloring the image. Looks like old film footage. Also reminds me of fire at the same time. Very cool.

03 March 2005, 12:49 AM
cool concept dude.

03 March 2005, 06:15 AM
A servent to death...

Boy is that something to get front seats for.

Your colouring is going outstanding. The dipeiction of the 'control' he has over her is very powerfully given.
One small crit on a 'little something';
I LOVE the dripping blood off the skirt. It gives an outstanding horror to her composition. Unlike how 'blood all over' would look. But unless she has razors on her skirt tips or unless she herself is bleeding from underneath. I would not really expect the blood splattering from killing with an axe to so neatly come only to the tips of the skirt.

I am definately going to be tagging along this work.

It's going great!

03 March 2005, 06:45 AM
Great work Blaz! spooky is definately the right word. The girl looks great, her expression is right on. I agree that you could push the look of the bed. I really like how you pushed the values in this latest version. I was thinking that the death master seems a bit static (straight up and down). Maybe have him leaning, towards our right, to to meet her gaze. Always a pleasure to watch your progress.

03 March 2005, 06:47 AM
I really like where you are going with the master and servant theme. :) The lighting and overall colour palette is nice, and the way "death" is holding up the girl is perfect I think. Keep up the great work! I'll stop by soon to see how you progress.

03 March 2005, 06:48 AM
Looking great so far! Keep it up!

03 March 2005, 08:21 AM
A good way to get rid of the dark area under the bed is to paint the sheets falling on the ground with some nice and sick blood spots, maybe some nice fabric texture on it.

03 March 2005, 12:01 PM
It is very good, you makes a great image, which make me cold in
the back by the subject, follow.

03 March 2005, 12:40 PM
Me like the bunny detail... :)

03 March 2005, 07:30 PM
Looking much better. The color scheme looks all the more awesome as well.

03 March 2005, 08:15 PM (

Ok. so here r some changes, as widen canvas size, some elements to make the pic more dynamic and as well some corrections on the bottom of the pic, so the bed is more readable.. at least I tried.
So I hope that I understood right ur suggestions and make the pic better readable and better as a whole piece.
Dont hesitate to post more. I appreciate every single comment sooooo much! :)

03 March 2005, 08:22 PM
looks amazing too me.!

03 March 2005, 09:23 PM
I like this a lot better now that you've widened it a little bit. Showing some movement.

Something about the girl's shoulder (her right shoulder) is bothering me. I guess she could be double jointed....

I'm really liking the lighting/mood! nice!

03 March 2005, 09:32 PM
very creepy and good expression on her face. Nice touch on putting those bunny sleepers and that bunny sitting. Can't wait to see the finish piece dude.

03 March 2005, 05:20 AM
Wow, very impressive work I love the detail and your style.

03 March 2005, 07:38 AM
Looking good, this is spooky... nice choice of colours, would have looked a bit much with bright red!

Man, It's geting better and better each time I check your thread. Love your death, that scaryed child. Is she done something terible to the man under the blanket, or she is trying to protect him? Interesting concept. I'll look forword for your updates. Keep the good work. (

04 April 2005, 10:06 PM
very cool work. I like the dark and mystique feel of your piece, also the great expression of her. keep it up, goodluck n loadsa fun, cheers

04 April 2005, 10:43 PM
Its amazing how the bunny keeps the scene from being 100% gruesome. I'm likeing the prpgress so far.

04 April 2005, 12:05 AM
good and nice drawing, like on fire, but i am not sure you wanted that?

04 April 2005, 03:34 PM
Good call on widening the canvas... strange, I didn't realize it was too tight a composition until I saw the wider version. Great eye!

I think the bed reads as a bed just fine, now. Keep it up, bro... you know what you're doin'. Cheers!

my 2D entry:

04 April 2005, 03:55 PM
Hi guyz! Once again thny for ur time and replies. Very helpfull for a further steps. I didnt have much time couple of day now I think, but I hope it will change now.. Im planning to do some progress tomorrow. Her bunny slippers will be now on the floor, coz with the light skin tones on her feet, I'll push the dead guy/girl in the back some more furher back.. So it wont be so clearly seen, just a though of a dead guy acctually. In the back there will be some curtains for feeling the space and the head of the death will be changed a bit.. maybe more openede mouth or a bend head.. will see.

R Fredericson: I'll work on her figure as well and hope I'll correct her shoulder so it wouldnt look like its attached to her or something. Thnx for remainding me!

Jezzarts: I'll see what will be the final coloring like.. Im still searching for the right tones. Maybe it will be more red, but I manage to keep that candle light. Thnx for popping by!

THE Wizard: we r both sick I guess

Velinov: Thnx for ur kind words! I really appreciate that! She killed him of course.. coz the death took her bunny away and now he is blackmailing her... hehe

ace4016: I bring the bunny for that reason only... I didnt want to be strictly gruesome, I rather made it a bit "funny" and sick in a way. Thnx for ur comment :)

choptider: Not like on fire, but the light is coming from a candle or something so the ambient will stay in this way. Maybe some corrections in the back but this is about it...thnx!

artjunkie: I tried not to cut deaths arms, simply to make the pic more dynamic.. I think it was a bit stuck before that. Thnx for stopping by and for ur kind words!

NOOB!, Arc80, arlutik, the1st_angel: many thnx to all of u either! Keep in touch :)

04 April 2005, 06:28 PM
thats a cool rendering lession. will add to fav and watch how it goes in the end.
keep the good work ninja :)

04 April 2005, 12:07 AM
Methinks the plush bunny is the real master, no? ;)
Good luck, man; awesome atmosphere.

04 April 2005, 07:22 AM
My gosh that's very emotive! Well done mate. Alot of feeling and mood. Awesome work!

Holy Crap! I love everything on this piece. You are one wicked dude:twisted:

Keep it going buddy:thumbsup: ,... I just sit back and relax...

04 April 2005, 04:20 PM (

A very small update, but Im soooo busy that I hope I'll manage to finish this challenge in time :/ So, here r some minor changes, as a curtain on a right upper corner and bunny slippers r now on the floor, so that her bright feet push the dead guy a bit more to the back, and a scythe is now made from some sort of hot iron and its glowing... And in the right pic u can see what Im trying to achieve... a composition where the viewers eye will follow from the brightest point (her face) all around the image and came back to the main interesting point, her face. Thnx for the feedback so far guys!

04 April 2005, 04:24 PM
well i hope u finish it coz it s damn fantastic man!!!

04 April 2005, 04:26 PM
Make sure you do finish'll regret it if you don' it for us!

Get stuck in

04 April 2005, 04:32 PM
I see where you are gettin gat.. but it eems like the feet are too in the face now.

And they look very unrelated to the slippers. Maybe if you pull the slippers a little bit more towards the foreground so they would look more like as if they have fallen off her feet?

I double the wishes above. The work is too good to be left unfinished (Hell it looks fantastic as it is!)

04 April 2005, 04:34 PM
Nice work! I really like the changes on her feet especially, they're very effective on several levels! Good luck on the rest...

04 April 2005, 05:07 PM
Looking great, and its better with the slippers off. I gotta say though, its hard to tell whether shes looking at the puppetteer or the bunny. Also, you might want to make the bunny a little more prominent (though I dont know how you'd do this without ruining the lighting, which is rather perfect at the moment).

04 April 2005, 10:19 PM
Thnx for ur good wishes! I'll do my best to finish that piece, but promise nothing at the moment... Next step will be studying Rembrandts paintings, coz I think there is a lot similar colors and lighting in his pieces. Than I will reduce the elements in my pic (such as unneccessery cloths and stuff) and finally start painting for real :) Cant wait! Thnx again for ur suggestions and doubts, I'll figure out what to do to make all of u happy :) cya!

04 April 2005, 11:06 PM
Nice work, very different concept. Good to see some entries stretching this challenge. I'll keep watching this for sure.

04 April 2005, 11:10 PM
its been quite a while since i been here last and man has the image progressed. i really like the balance between the elements its very thought through.

i would like to say something about the image but it looks like you have quite a fair bit of work to do on it so ill hold out for now. keep em comming!

and great work.

04 April 2005, 11:39 PM (

When I should work on my paid projects, Im playing with this challenge... grrrrr.. Ok, here is a starting point, where the process of painting finally begins... comments how to better do it r moooost welcome. thnx in advance!

04 April 2005, 12:16 AM
its looking good.

04 April 2005, 04:46 AM
For starters.. I am sure the bit about "...finally start painting for real..." really hurt a dear few here :(

Of the close up here: the one thing thats bothering me is the shape of the eyes.. as if you have pulled the up from the center. But it is sort of late to be doing that.

Not too much to advise since you seem very capable of what you are doing. I think darkning the bottom or upper lip to compair (Since she is not gettin light directly from infront of her face) could be a good idea to go for.
And her teeth look like flat peaces behind her lips.. some shaping there maybe.

But over all it is just fine tunning as I can see it. Really not to much that can be said to be done. Your image looks fantastic as it is at the moment

04 April 2005, 05:05 AM
nice warmin mood there dude, she looks really terrified, goodjob!

04 April 2005, 06:45 AM

Blaz my friend you have successfully given me the chills, Man this is a powerful image. Well done dude

04 April 2005, 02:17 PM
referring to this entry and to your CGchoice award, you improved impressively your skills since the last GSO contest. Hat off ! and keep up the good work.

04 April 2005, 03:38 PM
Very nice tones and form. Her face is coming along great but I'm not sure about the direction, or urgency, of her gaze. It appears a little unfocused and I think you could get more fear in there. If that's your intention of course... :)

04 April 2005, 04:54 PM
Beautiful colors, Blaz. I'd darken the hair and put some glints in the jewellery and in the eyes. I really like the tone of this piece.....but then we'd expect that from you :)

04 April 2005, 04:24 PM
Excellent !!! Yo've listen to the comments of every body and know your pic is very very cool !!!

You're doing already the final coloring ? Something tells me that I should begin drawing for the contest....

I hope you'll find time between your job and this contest, to finish both :)

04 April 2005, 10:15 AM
haven't been here in a while.
man looks fanatastic very spooky!

04 April 2005, 11:54 AM

04 April 2005, 01:47 PM
As u can see... I didnt post any new submissions for a long time now. Im affraid, that I cant finish this challenge in time, so I thank to all of u great ppl, who were following this thread till now and helped with ur comments. I much much appreciate it!

Thnx again for ur time and I wish u all the best! Cya in next challenge.

04 April 2005, 12:10 AM

04 April 2005, 01:48 PM
So sorry to see you leave... Good luck with jour job!

04 April 2005, 02:09 PM
 thats bad news.well good luck with the job then.

the progress looked excellent all round.

04 April 2005, 10:35 AM
That's some REALLY bad news there!

I know that I should actually be jumping and dancing since an entry at such a high quality as yours would not be a threat... But your work was going so amazing, it would have been worth everything to see you make it through. I undertand and wish you the best of luck. I wish you to get the best out of it all!

My only compensation is the fact that I am convinced that you won't leave such a painting undone/incomplete. I only hope that when you finish it; you will share the results of it with us as well!

04 April 2005, 11:49 AM
This is looking cool... she's got a look of 'Alice' about her.

It was an inspired move to lift her out of her slippers. It works much better. And the details are really pulling it all together.

Are you going to add some more colour into it? Or keep it monotone..? (you might have already mentioned this... sorry if i missed it!)

04 April 2005, 12:08 PM
Hi guyz! Thnx so much for ur encourable words! I will finish that piece for sure later, coz I like it too... but not in time for this challenge :/ The job I've got is just 2 cool and to big to miss an approtunity.

duddlebug: hehe... no, u didnt missed anything about colors.. it'll probably stay in monochromatic tone, maybe some complementary colors to pop something out or something.. but u missed some other thing.. I wont be able to finish this piece in time coz of my new job. Thnx anyway for popping by! and good luck with ur image!

Cya folx! Good luck with ur entries! :bounce:

04 April 2005, 12:33 PM
OH NO!! Dude.... thats bad but good that you have a paying job. Well maybe we will see this image finished at a later date and in the Gallery :)

Until the next challenge then...

04 April 2005, 12:38 PM
oOooops... i'm missing everything today...

It's a shame that you won't get chance to finish this... but great news on the job!! Congratulations!!

See you in the next challenge perhaps..?

04 April 2005, 01:16 PM
Sorry to hear about not being able to finish on time (was really looking impressive), but good luck with the new job and I'll be watching for the finished version in the Finished Galleries. :)

04 April 2005, 09:57 PM (

Damn im missing this challenge... Im not sure if I'll manage to finish this one, coz Im overworking myself allready. But hey, give it a try wont hurt (I honestly hope so... I dont wanna be awake for 3 days straight again :), so here is another update, I done today.. Just some playing with colors and face expressions. We'll see to what point I could bring this piece.

04 April 2005, 11:18 PM
Great colors and atmosphere. The skeleton's left arm looks longer that usual and I think that adds a nice touch to it. Perhaps you could make his right arm a bit longer, too.

Keep it up.

04 April 2005, 01:51 AM
Nice piece! the atmosphere is just right! What, you not going to finish this one for the contest?!. oh bad! At least just try.

I can see alot of difference with your latest piece with the one you first did (the woman and the devil and lots of roses all over bit). You have improved greatly!

Wish you all the best for your job!

04 April 2005, 02:38 AM
So your conintuing the challenge? Yay! Hope you do finish, but don't overwork yourself too much. Update looks pretty good by the way. Keep it up:thumbsup: .

04 April 2005, 07:02 AM
WOW! Looking great! I really like the colors. But I think that the back of the girl's head is too small as if someone chopped off a piece of her skull... I'll be keeping an eye on your work, good luck!

Beautiful work and very nice colors NinjaASSN. I like this a lot!

I like this job. Very good atmosphere, colors, expression.
Nothing to crits

04 April 2005, 10:22 AM (

Hi all! First af all, thnx for ur kind words and constructive critics. I changed skeletons arms, made them equal lenght, round girls head so its not chopped off anymore (i hope ;)) and start painting dead guys face. Everything is still pretty much in a middle coloring phase, very lose brush strokes just to give them proper shape, but soon I hope I'll get to detailing, what I prefer the most :)
This is it for today I think, I have to go to do some buisness now :)

Thnx to everyone who stopped by! cya

04 April 2005, 10:52 AM
Deadly, scarry and amasing!!! Brrrr..

cheers: Kornél

04 April 2005, 11:13 AM
That look good! You will certainly add some a puppet i suppose?....You should perhaps make the death's hand more squeletic..
in any case your colors are really nice and they give a very dramatik ambiance at your picture...

Good luck!:)

04 April 2005, 11:49 AM
Hi, on this challenge your painting impresses me, very good.

04 April 2005, 11:58 AM
hey i thought u quit, well , nice to see u continue, i haven't
been able to work on my pic for what 2 weeks now and I just
hate it ,grrr , but i'm still gonna get a pic done , no matter
how busy , i just know that, i hope you'll be able to finish too, buddy

04 April 2005, 04:10 PM (

I know I know what I've said... enough for today, but I just couldnt resisted, so here is another update.
Girls arms r shorter, she has a heart in her right hand, some details here and there and another... what do u think?

04 April 2005, 04:17 PM
kornel: thnx buddy :)

Fiolka: some wires r coming up, but first I wanna to finish with the main painting, so that I wouldnt need to redraw details later than. Thnx for stopping by :)

Tranchefeux: thnx, Im glad to hear that.. ur painting is amaizing as well, again. Will stop by ur thread soon!

Squibbit: I thought I quit as well, but than I said.. what the hack, lets give it a try.. If i dont finish it in time, than I dont. But at leat I could say i tried :) and yea.. whats with ur piece? come on come on!

04 April 2005, 04:22 PM
Looking great, Ninja! I really like how this is coming together. The color mood is great. Though the dead guy feels really purple while everything else is orange/red. Maybe if you put some purples in the darkness at the top?? Also, I don't know if you were going to do this, but I'd like to see Death's arms as being more skelital and decaying. Right now they're just skinny regular arms. And I don't know if you said anything before, but what are you going to do with the girl's face? Is she not going to have a mouth? That might be interesting... :)

04 April 2005, 04:30 PM
Hi Evil Gerbil! Thnx for ur constructive comment! Much appreciate it! The dead guy wont be so purple anymore, its really too much at the moment. About deaths hands, I didnt think of them so much till now. Just went with the flow.. When I'll detailing them I will probably make them more skiny and skeleton like. But they'll still have a skin over the bones. I dont want it to be a regular death, just bones and nothing else. And about the girls mouth... hahaha.. I just cant paint it properly so thats the reason she's withouth them at the moment :D Everythink I do, I mess her expression, so the mouth will wait for now :) Thnx again!

04 April 2005, 09:25 PM
Yay, you're back! And you brought Death and his bunny with you! :D

04 April 2005, 09:43 PM
Very cool piece :)

04 April 2005, 10:01 PM
Blaz, I'd love to see this one finished, I hope you find the time to carry on with it. I'm really loving the contrast between the soft translucent fabrics and the hard edges of her arms. I'd agree with EG about the colour of the dead figure's face. I'll be honest here, I think it would be a bit of a shame to make the pic into a 'puppet master' one as I feel this is a bit of an overdone theme in general, and of course this is just a personal dislike of mine. There's something very mysterious about the picture at the moment, something sinister and beautifully unreal about the way they are both floating in the room, lots of symbolism involved. It's great, but I fear the 'puppet master' would bulldoze it all and diminish it.

I'll be very interested to see this one develop however you choose to go with it, you've done yourself proud with this one.

04 April 2005, 10:03 PM (

and another upgrade.. just before I go to bed. I roughly painted all the elements that will be in the pic now, there r also some quick made patterns on the girls dress, sheets, back on the wall, so it gives me some directions on how to approach to details. And now, my favorite part... details and sharpening shapes!!! wiiiiii :D And her mouth ofcourse :/

04 April 2005, 10:10 PM
that bloody dress looks real nasty, the corpse too *shiver*

I agree to the note about the death's arms... more skeletorization!

04 April 2005, 03:16 AM
... But hey, give it a try wont hurt ...Oh yes it will :)
It will hurt everybody else with such a crushing entry!

Go Ninja!

I am very happy to hear that you are back. I honestly had thought that your entry was already submitable.. but there you go finding more and more things you could do through out!
Looking truley outstanding

04 April 2005, 05:13 AM
Looking very nice, the amount of detail is really great.

04 April 2005, 05:25 AM
Wow, great piece so far. Very creepy. This may not be extremely constructive, but I almost wonder if it would be more interesting if she had sort of a dazed or trance-like expression, instead of surprise.... it seems to me that if you get wrapped up in something like this, you are likely to be in a dream-like state, rather than fully aware: "Hey! What the-"?

Great stuff though. Excited to see the end result!

04 April 2005, 01:55 PM
i love the way jou made this, it has great colours, and it defenitly describe the atmosphere! great work!

04 April 2005, 11:53 AM
Nice entry! But I have to admit, I liked the March 27th version better. The focus has clearly been laid on the upper half of the picture; below the girl's belt, the composition feels fairly neglected. Also, with the later versions, I think it's gotten harder to comprehend that the girl actually is the visible image of the woman's soul being drained from her body.

Anyways, it has a very nice, morbid atmosphere with a curious "Alice in Wonderland" touch.

:) <- Lutz

04 April 2005, 12:15 PM
Always a very nice pic, the work on the light is very good, and the homogene color s are good.

04 April 2005, 12:27 PM
Wicked Pic, keep it comin dude!yeah!:bounce:

04 April 2005, 03:01 PM
Hello back!

I still see that there is something wrong with her left hand (the pose of her hand actually), it doesn’t look natural and the axe is hovering in the air… maybe you should change the pose of her hand or just replace axe with something lighter.

Like the colors and atmosphere and new details.

Hope you will find time to finish this up

i think the previous version has a better lighting than this.however, its still alil early to judge it now,the current piece could turn into another miracle ..will be anticipating for it..keep it coming:)

Palette is lovely. I've watched this from the beginning, and it's turned out very well.

Hi there!
Here is another update I did within a break I took from my work. This is about 50% of an original size, and I already started doing some details here and there, as u could see.
Hope u like them.. Still so much to do ofcourse :)

04 April 2005, 04:28 PM
And now some replies for u guyz, who r really in help to me!

Squibbit: I hope it'll get more and more spooky by the process :) I will made deaths arms more skinny but not just with bones.. there will be some rotten and old skin on the bones as well. Thnx for stoping by mate! :)

BlackDidThis: Thnx for the warm wellcome :)

arlutik: thnx man!

Muttonhead: I thought about hypnotic look of a girl as well but it didnt fit so well with the story in my opinion. But the expression on her face could still get some changes. And thnx for stopping by :)

calisto: hy there! and thnx for kind words! :)

lutzw: Hmmmm.... Im a bit lost. Which pic from that date have u in mind??? There were 3 different options at that time and I later than choose this particular. And this is not about struggling for her life and she is acctually a real person here, not a soul of her body in the back.. the body in the back is acctually some other person, who was killed by a girl in front, who is under the poses of a true death - the master.
It could be that I missunderstood something from ur post, so please correct me :) And thx for ur reply!

MDN67: thnx mate! Always nice to hear some compliments! haha..

eclipson: thnx to u too dude!

izisilver: I'll check the private right away... Hmm.. about her hand.. I think that her lower fingers have enough grip to hold the axe, dont they? Well, I could still make some corrections to make it more real. Thnx for advice!

ms@zx: Im still looking for the right lighting which will catch the mood Im up to. I brought some green to it in my latest version, I post that one soon... and I think its even more creepy and mostly more real than only red and orange. Moreover, the green and red gives a nice contrast while they r complimentary colors, so the pic wouldnt be so monotone and borring I guess. Thnx for ur opinion, and that my next submission will be better.

Paul Davidson: Hi man! Thnx for staying around!

Samuraikuroi: wow! Some slovene greetings :D very nice! And thnx for ur kind words!

Ok.. there is another update, more details (rotten and full of maggots deaths arm, girls upper clothes, hair... etc) and some overall color changes (still try to achieve some rembrandt style of light and color scheme).
I know Im lousy on commenting ur works, and I feel really bad.. I just have so much work.. However, today I'll take an hour in the evening to thank u for sure.

Hi there, your work has great impact effect, colors are well choosen and the dramatic light is propperly set.
Very creative, very much, great concept.

Thank u for so kind respond.. Im thinking as well as Squibbit meniton it... how many of u think that the elfs ear is unnecesery, or that the normal ear will do better??? Els ear doesnt have any meaning at all, it was just a moment of inspiration... and about mouth?? should I painted or not?
Thnx in advance!

It's looking great, Blaz! Wonderful, classical lighting and those textures on Death are terrific. As you asked, I'm with Squibbit on the ears: It doesn't add anything, and I think it'd look better just being human. (Also, the rules are kind of really specific about one of the characters being a human, sooo....) Also, I think she would look better with a mouth.

Looks pretty close, good luck with the last bits. And thanks for dropping by my thread - I know you've been busy, but it's cool you had a chance to drop by!

how many of u think that the elfs ear is unnecesery,

to be honest it was one of the first things that caught my attention, personally I feel it adds to the surreal quality :)

edit: just make the ear 'a bit' more like in the first sketches maybe

Oh yes and add the mouth :)

Completely to my personal opinion and taste...

I woudl say leave the elven ear.. not only does it take from the image.. it also gives you a chance to be disqualified

As for the mouth bit.. I really didn't understand why you covered it up anyways? Your image does not need that many new elements of spook.
I keep looking back at your so called 'Sketch' which I wouldn't mind printing out and framing on my wall.. And there are a dear set of elements and waves that looked better there. I LOVE the details you have cared to show in the colouring WIP. And I like this one... It is just that there was a 'something' in the sketch (yeah right.. sketch) that was too powerful to be able to let go.

Blaz, it is no secret that you are extremely talented. I am sure I will like what ever you bring out!
If you say no mouth and pointed ears.. I am sure it will fit in in your final.

Good Luck!

I'll go for no pointy ears and a mouth too. You could just reduce the pointiness of the ears since I have a friend who has elf ears (she's short too, hm, maybe she is an elf....).

05 May 2005, 10:28 PM
she could have multiple mouths cause i don't know why !

05 May 2005, 10:51 PM
I agree with Squibbit, because he speaks wisely! ;) No really, I feel a mouth would actually add to the horror, because you could exaggerate her expression. Otherwise graet lighting and atmosphere... and if there is the slightest chance of being disqualified lose the elf ears!

One thing, are her legs a bit short? Maybe fractionally longer... :/

05 May 2005, 11:24 PM
Colors are just great...
Maybe you have to correct some things, or maybe not...
...I don't know ;).

haha, well spoken

05 May 2005, 11:48 PM (

So here is a closeup of a master and servant. I corrected her ear, hair, added some tears, detailed a heart... make some hard edges on deaths face, painted curtains in the upper right corner... hmm.. what else... yea ofcors! Say hello to bunny :)
More to come, but the clock will be 2 in the morning right now, and tomorrow is still so much to do.. need some sleep. bye and thnx for comments! much appreciate it!

I like a lot your composition so far. I know it's not finish yet, but it is looking good.

Good luck!

05 May 2005, 09:00 AM
One of the best entries in this competition. No comment from me dude

05 May 2005, 09:12 AM
and if there is the slightest chance of being disqualified lose the elf ears!

you know I still find that 'human' requirement in the rules to be odd, and in some cases counter creative, I still could have related to her as being human pointy ears or not..........ahh never mind :)

05 May 2005, 09:45 AM
Cool, im really loving that skull!

Ive been watching this from the begining! This is really a great fit to the theme, the expression on the girls face thus far is great too! Ill check back later for progress! Great job!

05 May 2005, 01:12 PM
This piece, even in its early stages, gave me that wonderfully 'disturbed' feeling... beautifully dark and tragic. I do like the human ears better... now that I've seen both versions. The mouth... hmmm, I kinda like the horror of the little girl not being able to speak or scream, but if you wanted to add the mouth for more expression, how about sewing or stapling it shut?! Maybe too cliché or inappropirate for this image? *shrug* Just a thought.

Brilliant mood overall and stunning details. Keep going bro... you're almost there! :applause:

05 May 2005, 05:21 PM
very much a cool picture, i hope you do well with this! :D

05 May 2005, 06:07 PM
Wah, your shading makes it a living nightmare, love the way you paint. its so freaking good and still very classic. but please, bring back her mouth, except its the matrix :p
keep on rocking eric, your piece is a killer! (by word)

05 May 2005, 06:18 PM
whow!, this is rocks all the way...i love the skulls face, it has great details and the mood of this art is just amazing...keep it comin dude!...looking forward to see ur finals!...:bounce: :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 06:19 PM
Awesome. Colours & detail are great, especially the skull. Looks like a classic pic!

05 May 2005, 07:28 PM

Like the new version with human ear better. I just don’t know why death’s head is so bony but his hands are made of flesh. amm and if you see the girl’s fingers in her right hand are different than in her left hand – if you haven’t even painted both just ignore me.
I hope you will leave her without mouths, it is very original.

Are the scythe and death’s left hand burning? it looks ql

Powerful Image - good work!

05 May 2005, 07:53 PM
hi there.

Great update, i love the image mood and over all concept. i would like however to point out a small detail flaw that is bothering me. her eyes look like they are sagging. i mean they look just weird in that angel... that's about the only thing i feel needed to be noted. rest it top notch!

keep up the great work.

05 May 2005, 08:01 AM
Great progress so far! keep it goin. Good luck:)

05 May 2005, 08:30 AM
Yes, bring back the mouth !!! It would a shame that your great work is disqualified because of this...
This is a beautiful piece, horrifying mood, great choice of colour :bounce:

Keep going on

05 May 2005, 11:52 AM
