Ok finally finished the legs. Quite lousy modelling in the legs, but i'm gonna cover it up with armour anyway. Looks like I could make it on time, I just need to spend a few more sleepless nights on this and I should be done...Cheers people.

Alrighty let's go... here's the explanation.

My concept shows a kind of Royal Elvish Gaurd mourning over the loss of his master in the first sketch. The focus is pretty much on the servant, the Elvish Gaurd. he'll have all sorts of scars and bruises on his body, but at the same time he weeps for his master. So even though he has struggled under his former master, he still feels for him.

The scene is set in a very grand-looking cathedral-kind of place, but I'm still working out the composition right now. It'll be pretty simple this one, due to time constraints on my part and because I want to focus on muscle definition this time round. There could be a closeup of the servant, but that depends on whether it will fit in the composition.

Ok I've started modelling the ELVISH IMPERIAL GAURD! I purposely made his features a bit exaggerated, mouth a bit bigger, eyes a bit smaller. Long way to go, I'll be back with more. All C&C absolutely appreciated!

For this challenge I really want to challenge myself to do very good muscle definition. This is just a sample of what I'm capable of right now.

Hey there keetmun, you look absolutely stunning in 3D;) Where did you get that skirt...

I Love the direction you've chosen for the comp and your work is coming on fast!
The face model so far, It's off to a good start...I think the smile lines (between nose sides and mouth corners) would benefit from a little tighter definition, and the space between his septum (middle nose) and top lip looks like it could be a tiny bit longer. I'd define his cheekbones a bit more for strength. Love your work so far:thumbsup:

I have a cathedral type setting in mine too. I like the head model so far , although something doesn't seem quit right under the eyes, cant really see the eye socket at all. I think if you emphasize the lower eye socket it could help

Ok here's the wire I promised. I got a bit of a problem at the forehead, too many vertices over there. Anyone got any suggestions?

It's not really that important, since the forehead'll be covered up by the helm, but I want to solve this problem anyway, part of the learning process ya?

you could loop the edges that are in between the eyes around the eye sockets so that they dont continue towards the forehead. Proportions are stylised now, was that your intention? Also, you might want to smoothen the area between the bridge of the nose and the cheekbones, there is some flesh in that area.

Hey! You've practised some modeling lately, haven't you? The girl model is very sweet and I think the head looks really good. I wouldn't worry to much about those extra vertices since it's going to be a still and they would be covered anyway.Glad to see you progress so well - keep it up!

I really like the face, too. It's got this nice cartoon-y quality that's been avoided by too many of the 3D entrants.

To be honest I came to see your page because I'm totally in love with your avatar. ^-^; I'm hoping some of the cuteness and cute style I see there make it into your contest image.

Ok here's a bit of progress. I got the basic shape down, so now i'll try and complete the arms and torso. Then I'll add in muscular details. Been looking up some anatomy books lately. Hopefully I get this right...

OK here's an update...finally. I screwed up the back pretty bad on the previous try, so that's why I took this long to update, been figuring out my mesh on the back. Please do ignore those funny 'wrinkles' on the back of the neck. It was an experiment that turned really bad....:banghead:

The front of your character looks good maybe too defined, the back looks good too though I think the middle portion is too thick . I think you should be able to the shoulder blades in the back . Anyways good job so far.

mmoir - Yeah I agree the middle portion is too thick, and the abs too big as well. I'll try to fix this as much as I can. For the back I'm going for a muscular one, and the reference i found showed that the shoulder blades actually don't stick out. But yeah I agree it might look better with blades. Thanks as always! :D

I'm actually in the middle of a school 3d animation project that'll last another two weeks, and we're rushing for deadline really bad, so I don't know if I can pick this up again soon. I'm not dropping out yet, I'll just be away for quite a while, and hopefully when that's over I can resume the challenge. :banghead:

Good luck on your school project:) Otherwise, when you get back, be sure to lighten your scene so there are no harsh black areas. Right now, it's hard to tell where the model ends and the background begins, so critics are kind of hard.

Besides that, it's coming along nicely. I hope you make it back here to finish!

Anyway, i recommend looking for Strength Training Anatomy book,
if you want to learn more abt anatomy.
try going to orchard,ang mo kio and yishun library.
should have it there.=)

FINALLY! An update from Keet...Made some tweaks to the torso as suggested by all the guys, made the abs a bit less prominent...Cheers guys, I'll go at super fast speed now, I'm now in YET another frickin' school project...

Just finished the arms. Going as fast as my fingers can click... The toughest part was the hand and its fingers...

Your back, good to see. Nice update :thumbsup:. I do think the torso in general needs to be longer but it is a little hard to tell. Once the legs are modeled it will be easier to see if the proportions are correct.
Yes you are going to have to go fast to finish , no problem . I find having a checklist a good way to get things done and keep you on track. Good luck

Hey guys, I'm sad to say I can't really carry on with the challenge. I'm rushing the modelling to a point where I'm compromising my own standards, and that's very bad. I make it a point to improve my work with every model that I do, and though I can say I've improved at the start of the challenge, the last bit is terrible really...:banghead:

Although I'm pulling out now, I still plan to at least finish the character for my demoreel, to be finished in maybe a year. Anyway I think I should have just done Master of Puppets...

My thanks to Dark Mark, Gunilla, Climax, mmoir, monsitj, SNoWs, arturro, russell_nash, dom and all you groovy guys for supporting me all this time. I'll be back with a kickass demoreel in a while! Watch out Dom...:scream: :scream: :scream:
