Wong Keet Mun has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Modeling: finished the body... (

Ok finally finished the legs. Quite lousy modelling in the legs, but i'm gonna cover it up with armour anyway. Looks like I could make it on time, I just need to spend a few more sleepless nights on this and I should be done...Cheers people.

03 March 2005, 07:25 PM
Alrighty let's go... here's the explanation.

My concept shows a kind of Royal Elvish Gaurd mourning over the loss of his master in the first sketch. The focus is pretty much on the servant, the Elvish Gaurd. he'll have all sorts of scars and bruises on his body, but at the same time he weeps for his master. So even though he has struggled under his former master, he still feels for him.

The scene is set in a very grand-looking cathedral-kind of place, but I'm still working out the composition right now. It'll be pretty simple this one, due to time constraints on my part and because I want to focus on muscle definition this time round. There could be a closeup of the servant, but that depends on whether it will fit in the composition.

Now critique away my friends!

03 March 2005, 07:37 PM
Hi there keetmun, just a line to say that I dig your concept sketches so far, and will be watching this evolve;)

03 March 2005, 09:50 AM
hahah u have the elf to! :D he is a man ? :D well... u know after challenge he can meet with my princess ... u never know :D

03 March 2005, 12:19 PM
Good start Keetmun! I like the concept with the servant having mixed feelings, I think you can develop this to something really strong - I'll be checking you to see how it goes:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 12:49 PM
DaddyMack - Thanks, I wish I could do them more detailed, especially the cathedral part, but I think I'll just work it out as I move along.

markovicd. - U sick fool! But I like that idea heh heh, a little one-on-one action eh? :scream: :scream: :scream:

Gunilla - Thanks, I hope I get this right too, I need as many pieces possible for my portfolio.

Next up is the start of modelling, I'll be back soonI hope.

03 March 2005, 02:24 PM
NIce COncepts! i like the design of the elmet! When some 3d ^_^ ?

03 March 2005, 02:55 AM
Your concept looks promising.. all the best m'man!

03 March 2005, 07:06 AM
Very artistic sence, me like the character design. 3D will be good :)

03 March 2005, 07:39 AM
Yeah! but make him kissing his feet :D

03 March 2005, 07:51 AM
Hi there keetmun!

Nice concepts and a really nice storry.
Good luck and keap the updates komming.

03 March 2005, 11:58 AM (

Ok I've started modelling the ELVISH IMPERIAL GAURD! I purposely made his features a bit exaggerated, mouth a bit bigger, eyes a bit smaller. Long way to go, I'll be back with more. All C&C absolutely appreciated!

03 March 2005, 12:09 PM
-OZ- - Thanks, here you go!

gyro2k - Dude...join me...join me...join us...

eYadNesS - I hope so too...I hope so...

Climax - His feet are in the coffin, that'll be a bit tough! :argh: Heh, but maybe i'll try that!

mr_carl - Thanks!

For this challenge I really want to challenge myself to do very good muscle definition. This is just a sample of what I'm capable of right now.

As you can see I'm not very good with muscles. So hopefully with this challenge I can step it up a level. Wish me luck!

03 March 2005, 12:27 PM
good start on the modeling! just show us the wire so we can see topology! :D

03 March 2005, 01:05 PM
 Beautiful sketches and a great quick start modeling :)
Lots of Luck to you ;) I like the elf helmet :D

-I'm subscribed to ur post ;) -

03 March 2005, 05:42 PM
welcome back Wong...pretty start. keep up.

03 March 2005, 06:17 PM
Hi Wong,After I read your concept,I imagine it in my head, could come out really brilliant.
I like the side view of your elf.The way helmet falls over his eyes.
Good luck finishing it.

03 March 2005, 08:15 PM
Hey there keetmun, you look absolutely stunning in 3D;) Where did you get that skirt...

I Love the direction you've chosen for the comp and your work is coming on fast!
The face model so far, It's off to a good start...I think the smile lines (between nose sides and mouth corners) would benefit from a little tighter definition, and the space between his septum (middle nose) and top lip looks like it could be a tiny bit longer. I'd define his cheekbones a bit more for strength. Love your work so far:thumbsup:

Thanks for your (exceptionally) encouraging words
Good luck with the comp too

03 March 2005, 11:59 PM
hello there frm msia,

I love your modeling technique. Simple and lovely. Great model u did back there *points at pretty gal* Hope to see a whole model of your character soon :)

Keep up the good work~!

03 March 2005, 12:24 AM
Hey Keetmun,
I have a cathedral type setting in mine too. I like the head model so far , although something doesn't seem quit right under the eyes, cant really see the eye socket at all. I think if you emphasize the lower eye socket it could help

03 March 2005, 01:47 AM
Nice start to facial modeling and good luck with attempting to realize your concept.

03 March 2005, 04:45 AM
hey nice start on the head modleing... keep goin budddy.. will b waitng for ut updates

03 March 2005, 05:09 AM
markovicd. - coming soon bro...

Spyder_0284 - Greetings neighbour! I see you're in design school too! Hopefully we'll get to help each other out through the challenge.

uwil - Man you're back too, thanks!

A I R - Thanks, glad you like it!

DaddyMack - DUDE, I'm a MAN! OK maybe more like a 19-yr-old guy. But not to fear, I made that model based on somebody I know in school, 18 years of age, and she's hhhot! Skirt belongs to a friend. Not too sure if I understand what you mean with the nose part, but I think I know what you mean. Thanks for the feedback, I'll get right on it asap!

mmoir - Hey man, my cathedral setting is actually not confirmed yet. I'll only put it in if there's time, and I certainly hope there is. Yeah I get what you mean with the sockets and all. I'll see what I can do. thanks!

Kid Mesh - Thanks!

overcontrast - Thanks man, I'll be waiting for yours too!

03 March 2005, 05:10 AM
great sketches dude... great start with your modeling.. Great start.. Good luck dude. subscribed

03 March 2005, 07:37 AM
great start dude.. its coming along

I would make he's nose less perfectly curved and the nostril a bit smaller..

03 March 2005, 08:49 AM
Hi Wong, Good start bro  ...looking forward to some more detail though eh!

Your girl model is really nice my only comment would be I think the hands are a little to small at the moment.

rock on!

03 March 2005, 05:14 PM
Great start. I can't wait for more.

03 March 2005, 01:17 AM (

Ok here's the wire I promised. I got a bit of a problem at the forehead, too many vertices over there. Anyone got any suggestions?

It's not really that important, since the forehead'll be covered up by the helm, but I want to solve this problem anyway, part of the learning process ya?

03 March 2005, 01:22 AM
Neeno - Thanks, welcome aboard!

Versiden - Yup it's done, I think... Made the nose a bit straighter, but I like my nostrils 'big' haha! Might consider making the nose a bit twisted. Thanks man!

blackdragoncg - Thanks for the C&C on the girl, but she won't be part of the challenge, just to show you guys what I can do right now. But appreciate it no less! - :bounce:

03 March 2005, 01:40 AM
Hey Wong,
The head is looking better , good job.

03 March 2005, 04:38 AM
you could loop the edges that are in between the eyes around the eye sockets so that they dont continue towards the forehead. Proportions are stylised now, was that your intention? Also, you might want to smoothen the area between the bridge of the nose and the cheekbones, there is some flesh in that area.

03 March 2005, 01:45 PM
Hey! You've practised some modeling lately, haven't you? The girl model is very sweet and I think the head looks really good. I wouldn't worry to much about those extra vertices since it's going to be a still and they would be covered anyway.Glad to see you progress so well - keep it up!

03 March 2005, 06:53 PM
hey keetmun.... a creative touchy concept....:) ...the model is looking good i have to tell u .... will keep seeing to this thread from now  !

03 March 2005, 02:47 PM
hey there ,

nice model, your work also lookes fantastic

03 March 2005, 06:02 PM
hey you.. good to see you improving in challenge after challenge :applause: i will keep my eye on your thread la! will drop by from time to time to see what you're up to... so far so good! *kowtow* :deal: soon you'll be joining the top ranks ah..

03 March 2005, 07:41 PM
Well done Wong, For modeling musculature is allways good to have some reference, Let's buy a couple of fitness magazines and a playboy and get your hands to work....i mean on the computer....:curious:;)

03 March 2005, 12:56 AM
mmoir - Thanks buddy!

dom - Yup I'm going for a slightly exaggerated look here. I tried looping the edges over at the forehead, but I only succeeded in making things worse. I'll get more practise that's for sure!:bounce:

Gunilla - Thanks, and yes I have been progressing! Hope to see yours improved too!

yunisirees - Thanks! And welcome aboard!

splotch - Thanks!

Yina - Heh heh, you found the thread... Of course how could I let DOM get away with being so good, had to keep chasing ya...Damn front page guy :D .... Join...join...join....

Climax - You read my mind pal, I'm going to get myself a couple of books on anatomy and muscles, will be back with more updates soon!:buttrock:

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, I've just spent yet another night in school working on a project. Trying to find the time to work on this, and i really want to. Hope things work out...Cheers!:buttrock:

03 March 2005, 01:00 AM
cool.. clean modeling..

good luck..
c ya !

03 March 2005, 11:45 AM
Hey Keet Mun... keep it coming! Interested to see how's the final outcome... like ur concept!

03 March 2005, 04:52 PM

I really like the face, too. It's got this nice cartoon-y quality that's been avoided by too many of the 3D entrants.

To be honest I came to see your page because I'm totally in love with your avatar. ^-^; I'm hoping some of the cuteness and cute style I see there make it into your contest image.

Thanks for showing your wireframe, btw -- it's just helped me with my lips.

... mwahahaha...

03 March 2005, 04:47 AM (

Ok here's a bit of progress. I got the basic shape down, so now i'll try and complete the arms and torso. Then I'll add in muscular details. Been looking up some anatomy books lately. Hopefully I get this right...

03 March 2005, 04:50 AM
gra7, xenoid - Thanks guys!

kattkieru - U sick guy...But thanks for the compliments, and glad to be of service! Btw just so you know i'm a guy... :buttrock:

03 March 2005, 12:11 PM
he is looking great just define his neck little bit , and after comp . i have idea after comp we make my princess and ur elf in same room :D...

03 March 2005, 05:43 PM
Hi Wong,
You have made some nice progress with your model. No crits , looks good and keep at it.

04 April 2005, 12:59 AM (

OK here's an update...finally. I screwed up the back pretty bad on the previous try, so that's why I took this long to update, been figuring out my mesh on the back. Please do ignore those funny 'wrinkles' on the back of the neck. It was an experiment that turned really bad....:banghead:

04 April 2005, 01:03 AM (

Here's the torso. His sides are still not finished... Cheers

04 April 2005, 02:37 AM
Hey Wong,
The front of your character looks good maybe too defined, the back looks good too though I think the middle portion is too thick . I think you should be able to the shoulder blades in the back . Anyways good job so far.

04 April 2005, 02:52 AM
Looking good keetmun. I have to agree with Mike that the abs look a bit defined. Hopeing to see more soon.

04 April 2005, 04:52 AM
mmoir - Yeah I agree the middle portion is too thick, and the abs too big as well. I'll try to fix this as much as I can. For the back I'm going for a muscular one, and the reference i found showed that the shoulder blades actually don't stick out. But yeah I agree it might look better with blades. Thanks as always! :D

ace4016 - Thanks, hoping I can work on it soon myself.

I'm actually in the middle of a school 3d animation project that'll last another two weeks, and we're rushing for deadline really bad, so I don't know if I can pick this up again soon. I'm not dropping out yet, I'll just be away for quite a while, and hopefully when that's over I can resume the challenge. :banghead:

04 April 2005, 02:32 PM
Good luck on your school project:) Otherwise, when you get back, be sure to lighten your scene so there are no harsh black areas. Right now, it's hard to tell where the model ends and the background begins, so critics are kind of hard.

Besides that, it's coming along nicely. I hope you make it back here to finish!

04 April 2005, 02:37 PM
Your model is comin along real fine - I love that back! ;)

Good luck with your school project and see you when you get back!

04 April 2005, 05:32 PM
Hi Wong, I wish u luch in your school project, but remember we have only 1 1/2 month left 4 this challenge! so, hurry up! :bounce::bounce:

04 April 2005, 12:49 PM
I like the anatomy of the back.
very smooth and soft feeling.=D
Anyway, i recommend looking for Strength Training Anatomy book,
if you want to learn more abt anatomy.
try going to orchard, ang mo kio and yishun library.
should have it there.=)
good luck. XD

04 April 2005, 09:06 AM
kattkieru - U sick guy...But thanks for the compliments, and glad to be of service! Btw just so you know i'm a guy... :buttrock:

Hehe, yep, but your icon isn't. So it's still cute. ^-^

Those muscles are insane by the way. Are you planning on draping cloth over them, or using them as a start for armor, or...?

04 April 2005, 09:41 AM
hey keet i think his abdomens are to big , and that bones under neck are to much out... ;)

04 April 2005, 02:55 AM
Way to go Keet Mun. :)

"We will watch your thread with great interest!" - SuperPalpatine3d

04 April 2005, 01:22 AM
nice mesh! i'm waiting for update...:)

04 April 2005, 09:21 AM
Thanks for all the encouragement guys, i've finished that school project, and have resumed modelling. Submission is getting more and more unlikely, but I'll keep at it for the sake of my portfolio. Updates coming soon!

newbie1985 - are u from NYP?

kattkieru ( vbmenu_register("postmenu_2142866", true); - yup I'll probably have some cloth and armour, but not too much or they'll cover the body too much. Thanks!

04 April 2005, 09:51 AM
ur model so cute

04 April 2005, 05:38 AM
Go man, GO! there is time left, we are rooting for ya!

04 April 2005, 05:43 AM
Yes - definitely time for an update here! Go,go,go!

04 April 2005, 10:14 AM (

FINALLY! An update from Keet...Made some tweaks to the torso as suggested by all the guys, made the abs a bit less prominent...Cheers guys, I'll go at super fast speed now, I'm now in YET another frickin' school project...

04 April 2005, 10:16 AM
SNoWs, Gunilla - Thanks so much guys, it really means a lot to me. Giving my all!

04 April 2005, 10:35 AM
hi! glad to see you come back keet mun! good model so far! and keep going man! time 's run out!

04 April 2005, 08:38 PM
Yes! u r back!, ok...let's kick some butts!:buttrock:

05 May 2005, 03:22 PM (

Just finished the arms. Going as fast as my fingers can click... The toughest part was the hand and its fingers...

Here's my own checklist
-model legs
-model armour and weapons
-props and environment

Cheers people

05 May 2005, 03:24 PM
monsitJ, Climax - Thanks brothers... Trying my utmost best! :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 05:37 PM
Hey Keetmun ,
Your back, good to see. Nice update . I do think the torso in general needs to be longer but it is a little hard to tell. Once the legs are modeled it will be easier to see if the proportions are correct.
Yes you are going to have to go fast to finish , no problem . I find having a checklist a good way to get things done and keep you on track. Good luck

05 May 2005, 10:03 AM
yah,now in da room biside da
game design.=)

05 May 2005, 06:46 PM
Looking good so far, can't wait to see the rest. Keep going, only approx. 2 weeks left.

05 May 2005, 01:14 AM (

Ok finally finished the legs. Quite lousy modelling in the legs, but i'm gonna cover it up with armour anyway. Looks like I could make it on time, I just need to spend a few more sleepless nights on this and I should be done...Cheers people.

05 May 2005, 01:17 AM
mmoir - yup it was probably the perspective that was making things look out of proportion. Hope it looks ok now, and thanks for the help!

newbie1985 - hahahaha!

ace4016 - Lots of thanks, going as fast as I can!

05 May 2005, 04:21 AM
Nice updates keetmun! Now go, go, go

05 May 2005, 05:44 AM
Hey guys, I'm sad to say I can't really carry on with the challenge. I'm rushing the modelling to a point where I'm compromising my own standards, and that's very bad. I make it a point to improve my work with every model that I do, and though I can say I've improved at the start of the challenge, the last bit is terrible really...:banghead:

Although I'm pulling out now, I still plan to at least finish the character for my demoreel, to be finished in maybe a year. Anyway I think I should have just done Master of Puppets...

My thanks to Dark Mark, Gunilla, Climax, mmoir, monsitj, SNoWs, arturro, russell_nash, dom and all you groovy guys for supporting me all this time. I'll be back with a kickass demoreel in a while! Watch out Dom...:scream: :scream: :scream:

Cheers friends, see you all in a while

05 May 2005, 06:49 AM
Sorry to hear that your dropping out, I was hoping to see the concept realized. I await the finished character, and that kickass demo reel you have planned.

05 May 2005, 12:27 PM
Hey Wong,
THats too bad you are not able to finish. I am sure I will see you around and good luck with your demoreel.:)

05 May 2005, 12:44 AM
Would love to see it finished.=E
Anyway, your group seems dangerous, always see the director talking to you
