Latest Update: Final Image: Bujercon Demigod (

Story -
Bujercon Demigod.

It is human looking living statue of enormous proportions. She carries sacrificial temple where all the
innocent and virgins will meat their doom. Almost like a meal cup. Amongst people serpent of discipline is upholding that humans bring sacrifes on daily basis. Demigod will not feast on the flesh of corrupted. Serpent of displine will eat and devour all wrongdoers and nonbelievers alive.

Serpent of discipline is ordered by the bell the demigod possess. Only a ring of the bell and the serpent must do her bidding. Maybe act as a lift. Protect and serve. Destroy the nonbeliever enemies.

Hi guys! Its pretty obvious whos area of expertise this challenge is. Jason if youre here. Youre going home with a prize. Just by looking at your woman and snakeman. Also underwater love.

Im kinda shocked to see Daryl Mandrake being one of them judges? He cant participate this time? So no hat trick for him?

1 MONTH LESS TIME! .. Thats critical for people who are less talented. Hope i can make it in time..

Im not going to do anything distasteful. Im very glad this began before easter! So i have 4 times free time to do awesome concept

03 March 2005, 05:15 PM (

Here is my first idea. Giants keep small things in high value.

So one of them is holding a girl in her arms.

Still searching for that cool idea..

03 March 2005, 05:19 PM
is she gunna suck on her head?? lol

looking great!

03 March 2005, 05:31 PM
Good to see you back, Falcor_! And with the first actual sketch I've seen posted for this challenge, too! Anyhow, looking forward to seeing how you flesh it out, and to your helpful comments this time 'round. Have fun!

walrus: Great to see you here man! Lot of talent in this one do you agree?

Paul: Wish i had your vivid imagination. Dont have finite idea yet.. Im still searching. Good luck to you :)

Rudeone: I need all the luck you can spare! Big thanx

ah.... I still cant think of super idea worth spending a lot of time. So my current idea evolved to look somewhat like this!
*submitting concept*

03 March 2005, 05:25 PM (

Hope i get a good idea soon.

03 March 2005, 05:27 PM
This idea is nifty. It looks cool and half naked women is always a good thing. I'd like to see this idea refined a bit.

Good luck

03 March 2005, 05:28 PM
Good luck Falcor... looks like you've started on some interesting ideas... :bounce:

03 March 2005, 07:52 AM

03 March 2005, 06:21 AM

Thanx for the visit and support

I finally came up with the idea im going with. Here it comes..

*going to submit*

edit* submit isnt working now... damn.. ill have to wait for 8 hours or so.

03 March 2005, 03:22 PM (

Good old easter holiday and mämmi finally made my brain work wonderfully!

So here is the concept im sticking with.

Bujercon Demigod.

It is human looking living statue of enormous proportions. She carries sacrificial temple where all the
innocent and virgins will meat their doom. Almost like a meal cup. Amongst people serpent of displine is upholding that humans bring sacrifes daily basis. Demigod will not feast on the flesh of corrupted. Serpent of displine will eat and devour all wrong doers and nonbelievers alive. If humans would dare to stop sacrifes Serpent of displine would leave the human build temple and punish the wrongdoers.

As bujercon demigod is almost motionless bronze statue she dont need to eat that often, but serpent of displine has to eat much, but he is willing to let the angryness and blood frenzy build up for non believers. Dont think if he gets too hungry that he wont find nonbelievers amongst people.

03 March 2005, 03:27 PM
Hi! I really like your concept, loads of poential in it for nifty colours, perspective and...oh yes... winning!

I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on this thread. However, I would like to know what is in the background there, kind of hard to read?

03 March 2005, 03:32 PM
Thanx paperclip
Im going to sharpen up my line artwork for couple days. You will see things more clearly, but basic idea is that this is a open cave formation with sky showing in the upper part. Also some trees and big waterfall in the middle coming down and spurting out at the temple windows below. Gonna think of style for the temple itself.

Hope you get the idea? Im glad you think its good. Because i sure do. Phew a huge load came off my shoulders. Now i can only work on the pic. Everything else is set for good.

03 March 2005, 03:39 PM
Hi there Falcor!!!Nice to see you here again!I always like the way you start up!!!Really sound promising your concept!!!Now i take a seat and bell watching,hé,hé!!!Later Falcor!!!
Good luck and especialy loads of fun!!!

03 March 2005, 11:27 AM (

Lots of work to be done with the lineart, but i wont be skipping it this time. Gotta do perfect lineart first.

Thanx Okmer!

03 March 2005, 12:22 PM
Hi Falcor :)

Cool Bananas dude! "kinky" aproach to the assignment once again :) good luck!

03 March 2005, 12:41 PM
u craazy, real nice story but man I laughed when u put that
Bujercon there again. yea now if u can sharpen the demigod's
line art and then bring the rest of the pic to that level too,
then that's around the best line art u done to this day and
that's pretty cool. I was already amazed at the last pic
u posted as your line art hasn't been quite that accurate
in the past :D Good job, buddy  :bounce:

03 March 2005, 12:47 PM
Good luck Juha, Your linearts lookin very dynamic..but somehow i get the feeling of the creture strinking at the human in that whats I cant easily understand the master-servant angle here..

03 March 2005, 02:54 PM
wow! good story! and about your sketch , i think charactor feet is too big, good luck!

03 March 2005, 07:32 AM
ElFuego: Thanx man! Im not planning too kinky! :)

Squibbit: Yeah im going for my alltime best artwork! *humble me*

omengeorge: No man. Serpent is watching over all the tiny humans walking around in the temple. At the moment i havent done any of them. If i will do them at all. Ill keep them out of the lineart.

monsitj: Im glad you like the story. I tried to make them feet look like they are coming towards the viewer, but youre right they kinda look too manly i guess? I'll fix them soon. Still so much to with it. BTW.. This was your first time commenting on my artwork  Thanx!

*update time!*

03 March 2005, 07:38 AM (

Ahh so much work to do still...

Hardest part is to come up with the ideas.

03 March 2005, 07:50 AM
This update looks great. Only thing I think I can critique is that the feet look a bit masculine, but that has been said.

03 March 2005, 08:20 AM
Nice nice nice concept, another gothic lookin artwork, coooolll, i wanna see ur next progress,

03 March 2005, 09:42 AM
ow i like this sketch ^^ i'm waiting for the light and all. and the dragon creature like is really nice

03 March 2005, 06:09 PM
ace4016: Yeah i agree. Gotta try to fix em soon. Thanx for the support

eclipson: cool, but i dont know about the gothic part. Lots of lux for you! :)

yznah: Yeah this has been record long lineart for me. Tomorrow i plan to fix most important issues and start working on the colors and lighting. Have to use easter holidays for it. I wont have any ounce of mental powers left during normal working weeks.

So... and hey. I gave her a loin cloth on the next update. I dont think that those rope ladders would have covered her cat that much

*updating* !

03 March 2005, 06:12 PM (

More lineart.. Lots of work on the rocky mountain and the serpent.

03 March 2005, 10:34 AM (

This is it. Not gonna work on the lineart anymore.. Starting the shading work.

hope you all like it so far :)

03 March 2005, 10:36 AM
dude ... woohoo ! :bounce:

03 March 2005, 11:30 AM
Yesss,well like squibbit Whooohaaa :bounce:

03 March 2005, 02:20 PM (

First start on the coloring.

Squibbit & OKMER!
you guys are the best :)

03 March 2005, 08:23 PM
looks really good so far i like the lizard behind the statue but im getting the feeling that her legs and feet are a bit to big kinda throws off the feminine look of the statue

03 March 2005, 08:29 PM
Falcor - Looking good so far! Before you get too far away from the line art, two anatomy comments, if you don't mind...? Her left foot (the screen-right one) feels larger than the other foot. And her entire body feels like it's tilting to the left. (Have you tried flipping the image horizontally and seeing how it looks that way?) Anyhow, you're likely already aware of both issues, but i thought i'd check. Good luck with it...!

03 March 2005, 09:25 PM
Hi :)

Theme of this pic is brilliant (I have a very warm realionship with ancient middle-American history and this reminds me of an ancient Yukatan civilization). Also the lineart looks very naturalistic and I think that some "false" anatomic details only emphaze the feeling that this is a ancient demi-god (As we know expecially the Atzteks made art based on expressive proportions rather than realistic proportions), But that's only a matter of taste in the end :)

Coloring maybe needs to be either more expressive or more detailed than your last one (It's a bit too plain for me, but it's the judges you have to think about ;)

Great job once again!

03 March 2005, 03:38 AM
Walrusmann: Thanx :) I have already scaled down her feet once. Dunno how i can make her feet more femine without loosing the dynamics of the perspective. It would be also good to keep in mind if you walk barefooted across jungles and plains it wouldnt do your feet any good. So she has been equipped with big ones. I'll try to push the forms with the lighting. This is about good as im able to make it.

walrus: Big thanx also to you :) .. Yeah um that right leg (screen right) is supposed to be slightly airborn and on different level. Bit like she is holding that foot up with her toes. As she is supposed to be moving and alive statue. So slight movement would do the pic good. Same applies to her tilting on the left side. Ill try to emphase that tilting with lighting also. She is supposed to be coming towards the viewer with a slightly.. As my perspective is not truly straight on it has slightly skewer to it. Kinda too late for them fixes. But im going for realistic style so ill push the forms.

ElFuego: Thanx :) Havent used any reference so far on the pic, but i agree with the jukatan feel. Also slightly roman and asian feel. A huge mix to get the pic cool. I'll try to color it with my limited abilities. Too bad the challenge is one month shorter, but im happy to get my pic to this level. Easter was fine time to work on this one:thumbsup:

Im gonna start building the ambient lights and shapes.. Hang on guys...

03 March 2005, 03:52 AM
Walrus: I just checked with flipping ... holy crap... It's lot worse than i thought it would be. There is no other solution to this than cut & paste & rotate... Have to keep working on the flipped picture to balance things. I dont know how it went like that.. Seems like stuff i draw with my right hand always get skewed from down left to upper right.

03 March 2005, 08:05 AM
Hi again! Concept... awesooome! But the composition and stability is a bit uncertain. I see that walrus already suggested flipping the image, so I know that u'll fix that in no tome :) And once again, I really dig the concept! Very strong.

03 March 2005, 06:50 PM
Hi NinjaASSN: Big hello to you  btw. ill be visiting your thread pretty soon.. so you have to wait a bit.. Anyway

compositional issues and tilting issues with my artwork... Well im happy to announce i tried fixing them for 2 hours. I cut pasted everything and finally i had the picture upside down and i was trying to move the feet to new position.. Soon i was adjusting that serpent and well everything.. I thought i created better picture by doing that.. Of course sigh was pretty evident once i looked upon the old picture and it was way better.. So in the end i just lassoed that demigod and did a tiny skewer in 5 minutes... So uhm... yes..

Hope it fixed anything.. I'll promise to learn to draw next time dudes :wise:

So i started on doing the shape passes.

*update* :wip:

03 March 2005, 06:53 PM (

Shaping it up.. I dont think its gonna end up as night.. Im going for day. Just need the shapes.

03 March 2005, 07:10 PM
hey man i still think that the lizard is my favorite part

03 March 2005, 10:08 PM
Everything is shaping up pretty nicely, good job on the cleanup. I prefer the daytime scene also.

03 March 2005, 05:17 PM
Thanx very much there

ace4016: Yes ill try to make it pretty bright day. Thanx so much for interest :)

Walrusmann: what an polite way of saying everything else sucks :D Nah kidding. Thanx mate!
That serpent has lots of forms to keep up. Lets wait and see how it turns up.

Everybody.. I got a new idea! I'll update it to see if you like it or not.
So the idea is that my demigod would bear markings very deep embossed and colored cuts. That no normal human would ever dare to bare. Or die horribly. As the statue like living demigod would be emphasized. Or would the markings make the demigod unreadable? Have to think of a way for them....

03 March 2005, 05:20 PM (

Here is my new idea. Demigod would have inhuman embossed markings over her body.

03 March 2005, 06:06 PM
yeah! just like you said , you do good job at coloring! I like the mood of the god-like scale!! good job

03 March 2005, 07:11 PM
the sketches look good so far.

good luck.

04 April 2005, 04:52 PM (

Trying to attack the anatomy issues.

Lots of problems still with the composition... hmmm almost coming up with a solution...

monsitj, Slav
Thanx for hanging around :)

04 April 2005, 04:58 PM
Nice concept. I have been looking at your work and really like the idea. I think that like anything there are always kinks to be worked out. I really like the lizard. I am anxious to see your progress.

04 April 2005, 05:48 PM
that looks damn good

the character looks more stable now
liked that very much
ansious to see more

04 April 2005, 09:14 PM (

Thanx for people hanging around in my thread.

So much work to do still... hope i can make it in month. If im posting too many pictures.. Just delete old ones.

04 April 2005, 09:15 PM
doing good buddy, doing good :)

04 April 2005, 09:16 PM
looking great!

04 April 2005, 11:56 PM
at first i really thought the legs and feet were to big still but the tattos you put on one of the colors really brings them down and now im feelin like if you did shrink them any more they wouldnt look right youre doin really good man good luck and keep it up

04 April 2005, 01:17 PM
Hiya Juha, Nice idea. When I look at the image I find the legs to be like a mans pose. Maybe her legs together or crossed like in a meditation pose. The dragon looks to me as if he is about to fall, maybe a ledge thats cut into the rockface would look cool. Just my thought hope you dont mind. :)

04 April 2005, 01:31 PM
Squibbit: thanx!

NOOB!: thanx man

Walrusmann: Yeah the legs are pretty hard to do. They are supposed to be embossed cut like tattoes, but first i have to finish her up. They are coming last. Thanx for the comment

element5: I really dont want to cut down the size of the feet anymore. Or i would loose the perspective of the legs being so much closer to the viewer. Unless you have other advices how to make her legs less manly? I dont want to have all my elements in single plain.. If nothing comes towards the viewer i think it would greatly do harm to my picture.

about the dragon (serpent) his left arm is over the ridge and left foot is clinging to the rocks.. and right arm is burrowed slightly to the wall. Tail is like a cobra what is pushing him up. So think he will do just fine being there

If you can spare any advices id gladly hear more. Thanx for the comment man.

04 April 2005, 02:42 PM

Cool .. thats fair enough... I do have a suggestion ( you know you dont have to take them :) ). maybe her feet could be on a flat platform instead of pointing downwards...I think It maybe the shape of the feet/the curves that will make them look more female.
Heres a few ref pics I found
hope that helps

04 April 2005, 02:48 PM
pretty cool concept and nice sketches, I like.

04 April 2005, 03:28 PM
whoa crazy.... i love the atmosphere

04 April 2005, 06:16 PM
element5: thanx for all the advices.. Well see what you like of the new update then
beelow and Big Boi: Hope i didnt ruin the pic!

Here is crazy attack on my picture!!
That serpent he asked for it.. He never made the composition to look cool. So screw him.. Im going with frontal. And demigoddess will have better posture and look more upwards. She will also be getting new cool pedestal to keep her legs on.

Rrrrr  Stupid picture

04 April 2005, 06:19 PM (

Crazy attempt.. Gotta sleep and look at what have i done at the morning :)

04 April 2005, 08:57 PM
I LOVE THIS! The shape of the head on the top figure/statue has such power1 It really blasts off the page, and I find something disturbing about the eyes and their placement in the head. I mean that in a good way. They give the face a god like quality.

04 April 2005, 09:12 PM
Curious to know hwat that thing above the demigoddess is. Will you leave the embedded tattoos into the skin of the demigoddess?

04 April 2005, 09:13 PM
this is most impressive. I like that you have paid attention to scale.

04 April 2005, 06:47 AM
BC1967: Thanx! I might go this way. Because it always felt like that the previous serpent made the picture left heavy. No matter how i shaded it.

ace4016: That thing is the same serpent of displine.. Slight modification of the facial area. Tail remains hidden. I'll think of a way to reveal the tail slithering around the picture.
So he just got so big compared to previous version. He must been using those "asteroids" :)

beelow: Yes if i have time ill be drawing lots of tiny humans walking around the temple, but i kinda suck havent been able to finish my main attractions which of course are the demigod, serpent of discipline and the temple they reside in.

04 April 2005, 10:09 AM
Hiya Juha,

yes I see what your thinking, I feel that this is for the better :) looking forward to the refined version.

Take care

04 April 2005, 10:18 AM
dude , if you can make the lines and forms sharp
and smooth again and work on from there this pic
will rock da house

best of luck and have patience friend

04 April 2005, 10:20 AM (

Cropped it to A4 style size.

Still those heavy distortion problems are bugging me.. Have to keep it loose and try to fix them before final coloring.

element5, Squibbit Thanx guys :)

04 April 2005, 11:43 AM
Falcor, DUDE! Sorry I've been missin' out on your thread (but I'm keepin' a sharp eye on it now!). Like the revisions you've been making to solidify your composition. I really like your latest revision... much more imposing and dramatic. Great stuff, I'll check back for your updates! Cheers!

04 April 2005, 05:58 AM
Thanx artjunkie! :)

After hearing opinion on my artwork.. Im going to try to use more of my old picture.. That means ill try to create 3rd evolution.. 3rd a charm.. right?

04 April 2005, 04:57 PM (

I cant draw women and the challenge rules say that there must be atleast 1 100% human...

So i cant turn her into goblin! .. Uh what about a man? zheeess.. who am i kidding i cant draw at all.

Maybe later who knows... *SIGH***

04 April 2005, 05:06 PM
use help lines and photo ref, no paintover,
just ref. That way you get past the difficult
part and can move on to finishing the rest
of the pic

04 April 2005, 05:15 PM
looks monumental... this is gonna ba awesome!! cant wait for some more...

04 April 2005, 05:20 PM
who am i kidding i cant draw at all.

Pfft. The other work I've seen of yours says differently. Get back to work!
I like the new color sceme you've added, it's really rich and attractive. And I haven't commented on them earlier, but I was just noticing how nice the stairs look leading up on eaitehr side of the statue. Okay, thay're just stairs, but they're part of what paints the scene and they work.
I'm not sure the stairway going off to the right does, though: If it's leading off of the stairs and not a landing, are those stairs tilted to one side to match the line of the stairs? Wouldn't they have to be?

Anyhow, keep going! Good luck with it, and have fun!

04 April 2005, 05:44 PM
You can't draw at all? This image is amazing, so don't say such things. :argh: It is really wonderful, I like how the light on the guy "flows"; the golden colors are beautiful. I love gold.

04 April 2005, 01:56 PM
Squibbit: sure thing dude  I used reference for her.

arkinet: Guess youre seeing in the alternate future where i learned how to draw and it ended up great, but who knows what will the picture end up like in a month.. Thats what counts. Thanx! :)

Walrus: if youre talking about the stairs on the lower right corner. Well i didnt bother to really think about the corner of the steps.. It is kinda a helper like this / with lines drawn over it.
Thanx for popping by! Cant really think of anything helpful on your artwork so ill just cheer for you from the shadows

Maidith: Huge thanx. I went and took a look on your deviantart it was great :) I'll have to fix all the colors at the end. Since im kinda of manipulator not that good in painting 100% accurate pixels and colors.

*update time* ... here is what the demigod looks like now

04 April 2005, 02:00 PM (

Here is a closeup.. I used 3 pics of women reference for her face.

If im sending too many steps delete the old ones.. I cant!

Im really no Enayla when it comes to drawing women.. Its way too difficult

04 April 2005, 03:13 PM
nice work dude, nice work, keep at it

04 April 2005, 05:26 PM
The colors on your latest post have me a little confused: Is this a gigantic woman? Or a gigantic statue of a woman? Because of the scale, I'd assumed it was the latter, but the skin tones you're using seem to indicate the former, which threw me off a bit. I suppose having her alive fits the theme better anyhow, it's just not what i'd expected. Anyhow, keep it coming! :-)

04 April 2005, 05:35 PM
Thanx Squibbit!

Walrus: Well after reading the challenge rules that it has to be 100% human in the picture.. So ill color her to look like a human. Besides it will give me more wider range to play with the colors.

I dont know really.. Im i allowed to draw a bronze statue? Besides making her tones change into bronze is only a gradient map trick i possess. So i can change her anytime i want to. Better practise to draw a real woman and turn her to bronze.. Havent emailed anybody is the statue like appear against the rules.

Later one ill propably make her glance a bit more dead if i will change her to statue. Its a good practise.. Specially contrast to muscle freak in my machine flesh entry.

Yet again thanx ! :bounce:

04 April 2005, 05:58 PM (

Hmmm my email dont seem to be working..
So as a revenge ill upload this to hurt everybodys eyes.

Like i said.. sorry for updating

04 April 2005, 05:37 PM
Ah!! You're here!
I'd gathered from something you said at the DSG that you had decided not to enter the constest! You really should have a link on your signature. :)

But now that I have found you, I will never leave you alone again! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Seriously, I like your concept - you found an original way of adressing a classical subject. And already the whole enviroment is looking very promising with all the waterfalls and light cascading down the stairs. And what do you mean you can´t draw women?! After that sketch ( showed me - I still drool when I think of it! :D So, maybe you're not used to painting them, but that's what you're here for, to learn! And in my humble opinion your off to a good start, so there! :wise:

And good luck!

04 April 2005, 07:50 PM
SoniaNotRed: Thanx!!
Heh if you will teach me how to add a signature link guess ill try adding one. I never said im not going to enter, maybe i have said im not going to win. Also id love to have you hanging around im my thread to comment so i wont be intimated by you

Im good when it comes to drawing women from reference, but without reference.. I suck big time!.. So guess this is great time to ask you to pose for me :D

Here is my recent sketch for Daily Sketch Forum.. Jane Goodall now wish i could draw something like that without reference and in color.. *sigh*

Or something even better.

04 April 2005, 08:20 PM
Terve Juha!

Yep, faces are hard subject matter if you don't have a lot experience doing them.
Currently you should pay attention how to get collarbones more naturally and her right eye overlaps the cheekbone (her eye is too big). Otherwise her face works quite well to me :)
I'm curious tp see what your final is going to look like :)

Here's some ref material that might be useful. This girl has quite similiar facial features than yours. Just too bad the angle isn't the same :(

Good luck!

04 April 2005, 10:28 PM
*ahem* Signature. Right.
Log in, go to User CP (top of the page), Edit Signature and... er... sign! :)

As to the posing business - you're better off without that reference, trust me! :D

Beautiful Jane, btw. I still hadn't seen it. (There, I'm drooling again!)

04 April 2005, 05:46 PM (

ummm... small changes...

Thank you very much SoniaNotRed!

TeemuR great and cute pictures there :)
How did you end up on a wig page thought? Thanx i really liked them pictures!

04 April 2005, 02:43 PM

04 April 2005, 04:02 PM
NICE! job .... i love the design... curiousity stress... great work!

04 April 2005, 04:25 PM
Got fed up with the picture? I like the previous version, although I think the happy face could have been turned into a more serious face. Hoep you attempt to try a bit longer, if you have time.

04 April 2005, 05:48 PM (

Thanx guys!

Ehh Quitting is not my style. Id rather loose with style.

Im using the principle of
"You cant make a cake from piece of sh*t by sticking a candle into it"

That means new start was required for breaktrough.. Im also implementing cool tactic received from friend of mine. Hide what you cant draw :)

04 April 2005, 12:28 AM
You posted already! :bounce:

And it's looking real good!! :applause:
(Hiding the feet, huh? :D )

More! More!

04 April 2005, 02:55 AM

Hehe, I'm going to try to use that for my hands in my entry. Gald your not quitting. Keep on going:bounce: .

04 April 2005, 03:48 AM
SoniaNotRed and ace4016:

Thanx! Yeah not a chance to draw manly feet if you dont see the feet
Lots of other detail will also be hidden, but im not gonna tell what.

Im also gonna draw just one side of the temple and copy & paste flip it and adjust light source a bit. Since its gonna be frontal *up right corner *

Temple is also very simplified this time. Gotta do stuff designed for my skills not the heavies in this challenge

Wish you two luck on your entries! Hope we finish our pictures.

04 April 2005, 02:55 PM
Heh :) If you are brave enough to make a fresh start at this point so am I!! :)

I'm kind of bored/stuck with my work and already have a better idea in my mind.

Good luck to both of us :D

04 April 2005, 08:40 AM (

Thanx ElFuego

Heres more of the lineart.. Placing of the serpent head is causing some problems idea wise.

04 April 2005, 07:03 PM (

Coloring . Im happy with the outline.. Few flaws here and there.

Any pros wanting to give out any cool tips? Since the quality in this challenge is crazy. Cant really help anyone here.

04 April 2005, 07:05 PM
this is looking pretty nice i think!

04 April 2005, 07:19 PM
Thanx NOOB! I have cut down the elements in my picture radically so i can work on it faster and deliver it on the deadline

Have to avoid the blurrines i got from blurring the outline to get faster base for coloring.. oh uhmmm

05 May 2005, 05:02 PM (

Soon ill have to repaint the whole thing to get rid of lots of sketch marks.

05 May 2005, 05:05 PM
oh, but I love the sketch marks :D

love the style... :bounce:

05 May 2005, 06:28 PM
very nice style, looks a bit like middle age painting style.Very nice.

05 May 2005, 08:45 PM
Oh! Colors!
Will you be making light on this one?

Looking good!

05 May 2005, 03:38 AM
cha0t1c1: Thanx man! :) Maybe ill have to leave just a tiny bit of the sketchmarks. Dont want to have wasted work done. Eh.

hermine: Thanx! :) What makes it look like a old age painting? Is it the small amount of objects or the colors?

SoniaNotRed: Thanx! :) First i have to repaint the whole thing. Theres lots of ugly sketch marks when you look at it from closeup. After that i might do some additional colors and light bounces, but that is too much into the future. Lets see what i can do in time.
I kinda like the picture being simple and not overly detailed. It works pretty well without the old temple being all crowded and full of detail. Did you notice how i tried to make a hourglass composition?

05 May 2005, 12:43 AM
I like the simplicity. What else are you goign to add in the scene? I also like the sketch lines. Hope you finish this on time.

05 May 2005, 10:49 AM
Very artistic! Like it a lot!

Best of luck!

05 May 2005, 12:58 PM (

Now i have to create cool overlay texture layer and what ever fixes anybody suggests im all ears.

ace4016 Thanx
:not gonna add anything to my scene. Just trying to make these elements cool :)

O.Martin Thanx

Well, this is a different direction! I like it, though. Wonderful intermingling of limbs and the textures on the skin of the... um.. master thing... are terrific!

But I'm sure you'd like to head some helpful comments, too, so here goes:
Her hair is pretty close to being on a tangent with the top of the cliff wall. It almost feels like her hair is pouring down off the cliff. Raising up the hair or dropping down the cliff-top, even just a little bit, could help it read a bit better.

Her forehead feels really tall and jutting out a bit too much, in my opinion. Or maybe it's that her eye should be a tad higher and line up with the indented bridge of her nose. Or perhaps both.

On her left hand (the screen-right one) it almost looks like she's missing part of her two smallest fingers (making them look even smaller!) Perhaps a little more perspective or a slight tilt to the side could make that read better.

Lastly, the image seems a bit uneven vertically: the top of the piece is really interesting, but ther's not a lot of room for it. The bottom is quite empty, but it given a lot of space. It might help to crop, or add more room at the top, or add some more interest down below, or even move the figures down a bit (which would also solve the tangency issue, too!)

Anyhow, hope you don't mind the notes. Good luck with it, Juha, and make sure you get it done in time! :-)

05 May 2005, 03:45 PM
hey hey! Big thanx for the reply walrus:bounce:
Still cant think of anything to improve on your piece, but ok back to the tips you gave me.

And about the master thing. Master is of course the Demigod that means the woman. She is commanding the serpent of discpline with her bell. A ring of the bell and he must obey her every wish maybe acting as a lift.

About the forehead. Maybe tad tall not sure, but if ill make it smaller she will start to look like man like all my drawn girls always look. It was the same with the feet from the previous version. I kept fixing them and soon i noticed everything fallen on me. So unless you gonna show me a repaint i dont have the guts to touch up the forehead :) Im always having problem placing the lips correctly. So maybe it all roots from there?

About the fingers. Yeah i tried to make them fingers look like they are bend not straight like the other fingers. Guess ill have to straighten them up to avoid the confusion.

About the cropping of the picture. I actually had some statues in the lineart in the bottom part, but my lacking in skill department made me realize that drawing 8 statues would compromise the whole picture i took them out. Im planning on doing some texturing work. Testing out brushes and stuff.

Lets hope cool textures will do the trick of fixing bland looking bottom.

Sure i can make it time. It could be almost posted like that and it would be finished
If youre finished with your artwork you could allready start uploading it to the FTP to avoid last minute hassle and confusion.

*thanx*!

05 May 2005, 04:16 PM
Now I wouldn't do this for just anyone, and I certainly wouldn't do it unless specifically requested to, but here you go, Juha:

The 1st image is yours, the second is with my scribbles: Pretty much what I said in the post above about forehead and eye (and I trimmed the chin too.) But the eye, it turned out, was the most important change: Raise it and the forehead looks a lot smaller! And then the 3rd image is with those changes really quickly made: Forehead a little less prominent, a slightly more forward hairline, higher eye, slightly smaller nose, and a slightly less jutting chin. I hadn't meant to do so much, but one change led into another and... well, you know how it goes! :-)

And it's also based on my aesthetic judgements and what I find attractive, which is by definition subjective. So there are ways that I could have changed it which you will look at and say, "Ick, that makes it uglier!" But that's important, you have to go with what you want 'cause it's your piece. i'm just trying to help with anatomy. But then what do i know, I draw goofy guys with unrealistic proportions to begin with! :-)

Anyhow, hope this is in some way helpful. And thanks for explainging the Master and Servant part. Now I totally get it and see that she's the master. The bell should have been a give-away to me.

Take care, and good luck!

05 May 2005, 04:40 PM
Thanx for the repaint man!

Yeah it sorta made me go ick, but its the thought what counts
Basically it goes to the personal preference area. Since i actually started this piece with that face it was actually an facial anatomy study and i suddenly felt inspirated to build a whole picture around it :)

Also all kinds of racial differences also come in to the play when it comes to the faces. They are so hard to master properly. Its best for us both to just keep at practising facial anatomy.

And it also good to think how high the eye should be if there would be some tilting in the perspective. Since im thinking you sorta imagined the other eye to be bit lower? According the perspective? As mine is pretty typical side view as usual.

*thanx for the support!* Hope the advice on your cthulhu boss is helpful.

05 May 2005, 05:10 PM
Yeah it sorta made me go ick, but its the thought what counts

Well, good. At least it made you think about it! :-)

And yeah, your advice on my thread is good, I'll have to go in and see what I can do. Thanks for that!

Catch you later...

05 May 2005, 06:16 PM (

Is the hilite going on too strong?

I cant add any more color variation, because i dont know how.. I should have planned more complex color from beginning. Oh well... Atleast this is my best technique wise artwork.

I'll submit final picture during sunday. Until that i try to think small fixes.

05 May 2005, 06:20 PM
cool, but thats one creepy creature you got there:eek: ... btw, thnx for stppng by my thread... hopefully could finish it on time :)

05 May 2005, 06:24 PM
Looking great!

I think you should make the darks darker though, really bring out the contrast. I love this style, very different and funky
Hope you get it finished! Not much time left, falcor!
moi moi,

05 May 2005, 06:51 PM (

Thanx Arkinet and Paperclip!

Now i made things darker as you liked it paperclip, but i dont know. I want my picture to be pleasant to look at. Are there too much contrast and dark right now? There is still time to fix.

My amazing 15 inch monitor sucks.. eh its only 5>10 year old so why should it suck :)

05 May 2005, 09:21 PM
I'd go a little easier on the light (less 5%? is it a layer?).
The shadows are a different mater, though.
The bell, for instance is too dark now (another less 5? LOL!); the lizzard is OK and the BG probably depends on wether your going to put something on it or not. Right now the darkness on it doesn't hurt, I think.

Keep it up!!

05 May 2005, 06:41 AM
Thank you SoniaNotRed! :bounce:

Im done with my pic! Hehhee it is finished :deal:
Atleast i cant think of anything massive in its advantage so it is time to stop.

OK now ill go upload it with the story. I'll upload final tiff bit later.

05 May 2005, 06:52 AM (

Story -
Bujercon Demigod.

05 May 2005, 08:47 AM
GJ on the finish, I like the decision to darken the light areas. Good luck on your entry, and hope to see you around after the challenge.

05 May 2005, 11:21 AM
HAH!! See? You've finished after all! And ahead of schedule!

Congrats!!:applause: :wip: :applause:

05 May 2005, 11:27 AM
nice stuff, dude , congrats

05 May 2005, 11:03 AM
Congratulations on finishing ur piece! I really like it, although I think its a bit.. empty. On top and bottom of the pic is an emptyness. did u run out of time maybe? Something to strenghten a story, some details would really do nice... Anyway, i like it the way it is as well.. color scheme do a lot here - nice choice!

05 May 2005, 06:59 AM
ace4016: Thanx! Good job on finishing your artwork too :) I'll be around maybe in DSG or atleast when the next challenge begins.

Squibbit: Thanx! Good job making your picture in time, but next time leave a couple days of extra time to work on it.

SoniaNotRed: Heh i actually made it, but lets see how things go during next challenge.

NinjaASSN: Heh im glad you like it. Yeah it is bit empty, but i didnt want to invent any last minute backgrounds. I only had like couple days and i kept the risk to minimum. So guess my artwork looks bit empty, but i think in someways it makes my picture kinda different :)

Big thanx to you guys for visiting my thread. Now to the question in my mind.

THERE IS NO PUBLIC VOTING!! Only judges? Am i right?

05 May 2005, 05:47 PM
