04 April 2005, 09:25 AM

04 April 2005, 09:44 AM (

here is the process I render and comp it together ,but just like previous challenge (GSO) I still don't know the theory-correct about multi pass render , so I have to experiment until I' m ok with it , if anyone can point me to tutorial about it ,I'll appreciate , and this is the first time for me to use Subsurface scattering, I like it ,but maybe my machine not!! comment are alway welcome!

04 April 2005, 10:06 AM
Nice render Monsit. I wish I could help you out with the rendering, but I don't know much about render tricks myself. What program is that btw?

Texturing looks amazing Monsit! And really interesting workmethod - you continue to impress me. Keep going!

04 April 2005, 08:02 PM
Very cool turtle, can't wait to see it big cause here the texture seems a bit to noisy, effect that I'm sure disapears in the final size, I get similar effect with my bumps

04 April 2005, 08:12 PM
Bella, delicious image

04 April 2005, 08:42 PM
the turtle look great, and the rendering is really nice. Are you using displacement maps in mental ray for your detailing?

04 April 2005, 12:59 AM
fantastic texturing :applause:

04 April 2005, 01:18 AM
Love the texturing/modelling
keep those beautiful updates comin..

04 April 2005, 05:02 AM
that is just fantastic... i dont know what to say... well done

04 April 2005, 05:22 AM
Sorry mate, you know usually I love your work... but for this turtle, one thing disturb me a little bit... it misses much contrast between the carapace and the members/head.
I know the incredible texturing work you made, infortunetly, the result appear a bit flat, it's really pity, and that hiding place a part of your excellent work of modeling. Or maybe is due to the lighting is not the final one...
But I'm sure the final picture will be great... I'm waiting that following ;)

04 April 2005, 10:34 PM

I think the turtle is looking great but the caparison border should be different to the rest of the caparison, like other hue or so... my view of course.
It looks really good as it is anyway :)

04 April 2005, 09:05 AM
phenomenal work. Just love the way this is progressing. Way to go!

04 April 2005, 02:58 PM
very nice detail.

good luck to u.

04 April 2005, 06:52 PM (

update texture for old man, just test drive zbrush ,and follow practical guide , nothing fancy , just use antropus light and shader ! still need more work! some area still under construction , so critique and comments are welcome

04 April 2005, 07:00 PM
I like him a lot... :D

He has a great deal of character even before he has any eyes - which is a good thing!

The only thing I would say is that the position of his ears doesn't sit quite right with me, mainly in that they seem a too far away from the head before they join.

04 April 2005, 08:00 PM
I liked a lot!! the datails are great!!
The skin i was thinking in a blue tone! But its great anyway!!
Keep it up mate!!

04 April 2005, 08:40 PM
very detailed! it looks fabulous!
I just find the grey hues in the shader not to be very natural, but I dont know if this is because of the environment or what.

04 April 2005, 10:14 PM
Monsit......It's all coming along smoothly......very nice interesting and very well done.....a scene that wil be beautiful to see i am certain.....a style and scene very close to my heart in many ways.....i'll be watching Monsit....keep on bringing the excellent's fun and a joy to see......:arteest:

04 April 2005, 10:18 PM
For the moment... the real aspect of the shader is not the most important, cause it's not finish... but the only thing really disturb me are the wrinkles which cross on the face.
Another little detail, but maybe remain you some work on this part, the ears appear very strong, if we compare with the rest of his old face, they should hanging and perhaps, be damaged a little by the years... and idea. :) In any case, you have yet done a really good job mate, you can be proud

04 April 2005, 03:30 AM
Agree with Lemog - there are a bit too many wrinkles, maybe try to blur some more and other inflate, and other pinch? :)

04 April 2005, 04:26 AM
Hi Mr Monsitj! I agree with the others guys, one little more inflate it would be better... my friend your work is :buttrock: I admire! See you man!

04 April 2005, 04:45 AM
Hi monsitj.. Great work here man... Very inspiring, such a nice environment and great models on it... Nice lightning and textutes too... Keep it Up Man... We deserve to see Your Work in the final :buttrock:.. Congrats bro  !!!

04 April 2005, 06:44 AM
hey nice work on the head mate. the wrincles are looking really good, but i suggest u smooth out the lips. and as ur creatures will stay underwater, i wull suggest you give them a look that their skin contains moderate amount of water, and are a bit slimy, that i hope will give ur scene a more underwater look  keep up the great works mate

04 April 2005, 08:58 AM
Hey Nice job on the face! ZBrush users rock!

04 April 2005, 09:03 AM (

Hi, many thanks for comments , about wringkle , i agree with all of you , have to practice more zbrush tool , this is work so far ,it's look like he is 400 years old , hehehe comments are welcome

04 April 2005, 09:33 AM
Hey Monsit, the ZB work looks pretty cool, a lot of espression in this guy, i like the work around the eyes and mouth especially... i think the ears looks just a bit flat now, can't wait wait to see more mate, this will be great ! :applause:

04 April 2005, 09:44 AM

superb and outstanding.

04 April 2005, 11:01 AM
Wrinkles are top notch for me now and ears too... really good work you have done

04 April 2005, 12:05 PM
Beautiful, no crit, the idea and realization is great indeed, good luck!!!

04 April 2005, 12:16 PM
great detalits. he is very unique and sweet (what a nice chin he has).

04 April 2005, 02:45 PM
Brilliant :) You might get away with using bump-mapping only in your final render considering the scale of the head in the picture, since mental ray can be very slow at rendering displacements.

04 April 2005, 03:05 PM
Look much better now :)

04 April 2005, 05:21 AM
I think you went a touch over board with the bumpiness. I have a real dislike for that zbrush bumpy look. It works for this guy, but I'd be more selective on where you make him bumpy.

Nice style of character* It'd be cool if he had an old china man's white long thin beard, flowing in the water or hair just from the sides of his head.

04 April 2005, 05:25 AM
The texturing is definately looking much better, and i really like the shader, it has a very underwater skin look to it. But the dint on the side of the head seem a little deep though, it's not a big issue though, it just seemed strange to have the ear sit out so far from the head when theres a big dint there.:)

04 April 2005, 06:16 AM
cipher,Crazydesign,Crying Horn, smaddl,(o)ne,(o)ne: many thanks guys! for your encouragements !
Lemog : thanks mate! hope to see your TV all in one place!
`mb : you absolutely right! now i test render with high resolution and my machine can't make it:eek: so maybe i just use it in bump map only
Louis J. Browne: thanks man! yes he has white long beard!

04 April 2005, 08:08 AM
Hi! มี มี่ Oh Great.[=^0^=] the ZB work looks pretty cool. 04 April 2005, 08:22 AM
Man I like your entry a lot.The latest texture is cool, better than the last.More real. But still way too much like stone.Wrinkles too look unnatural, but still its wip so you can get it right,a real nice concept too here.Good luck.

04 April 2005, 07:15 PM (

here is the latest update so far , I think I'm done with texture , there are some render mistake in image ,I just combine it together to see what's going on , ligthing on turtle and old man are different so , I have to re adjust again, so comments are welcome

Hey your piece is coming along nicely, there's not much for me to crit on. It's just a pity your facial detail could not be seen on the final render.

04 April 2005, 02:08 AM
Looking awesome! like to said you have to adjust the lighting other then that looking great man!

04 April 2005, 05:40 AM
a major update, that's really a good job... only one remark... Turttle and Young man seem to have a different params of rendering... that's certainly due to the "mistake" you speak in your post.
In any case, we start to really feel the scene, that's great Monsit. Very good ArtMan...

04 April 2005, 06:19 AM
fantastic texturing Monsit, it turned out very nicely. I like the details in the forehead and the veins. The beard is perfect!

I realy love the old man's facial expression. his eyes and smile is...i donno

04 April 2005, 09:17 AM
The skin texture is alsome, must be one of the best i've seen. I also love the expression one the old man's face. Really alsome stuff :buttrock:

04 April 2005, 02:55 PM
Wow!! That are just amazing textures! The turle looks just perfect. It's like it carries a lot of history. Just great!

04 April 2005, 03:25 PM
Simply amazing, the textures are just outstanding, acctually it's more outstanding that you take 2d and 3d challenges at the same time and they both look so original and great technically... good luck...

04 April 2005, 03:32 PM
its just sooooooooooooooooooooo awsome.... :applause:

04 April 2005, 04:04 PM
Yes, it's really wonderful. I love it that you've given him the spots that older people get .. nice detail that gives a lot to his character. Love the mood in this scene

05 May 2005, 08:43 AM
Hi pal,

great progress with your textures  I just love the turtles shell :love:But maybe your masters head looks a little bit too craggy... but only my humble opinion as always :)

05 May 2005, 12:01 PM
many many thanks ! all of your encouragement keep me working! now I decide to proceed to final high res render ,it take long time ! good luck all!

05 May 2005, 12:05 PM
OH my god!! ur update make me crazy, a little suggest: make more natural pose for a toe...that's all:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 12:14 PM (

Hi, here is some minor update, add texture to his robe , add jar and adjust color ,hue , a bit , comment are welcome,
manjang! quick response , hope you
finish your entry na!

05 May 2005, 02:13 PM
very nice character  but only one thing is breaking it a little - the body is soo smooth and head is so bumpy..and I can see that neck is too thin..or maybe you can try to move head to the left a bit? But everything is cool, maybe it's just my problems :)
And it looks like jar-rope goes right from his wrist..

05 May 2005, 02:53 PM
Excellent. Like (o)ne just said, the neck/head look a bit odd from this angle, & could use a slight tweak in positioning. & About the skin smoothness: I always put a greyscale fractal map in the specular colour of the skin material to break up the highlights & give the skin the illusion of some 'grain'. I find controlling the specular colour/level in this way is more efficient & looks more realistic than adding an extra level of bump mapping.

Another thought- since this is underwater, you wouldn't get a wet-looking specular. I suppose this isn't a realistic scene though, so I would keep it the same.

05 May 2005, 12:24 PM
hey man i thought u were just a normal guy...

i hate being wrong!!!

05 May 2005, 05:08 PM (

hi! here is lighting tweak ,i render seperate pass and tweak in composite stage , now it's look flat , I plan to add more fog and DOF , any comments are welcome

05 May 2005, 05:20 PM
Hi manay thanks for comments!
one- thanks for your suggestion,
mb- I always appreciate your comments , it come with the techical solution for me to find the way to correct!! many thanks!!

05 May 2005, 05:20 PM
Good work man, no crits. The texture, light and elements are exelent. Keep the good work

05 May 2005, 05:22 PM
amazinng monsit.. just missing some textures.. c ya !

05 May 2005, 05:40 PM
that's outstanding work. As you mentioned, I think some DOF would add alot to the scene. And some floating debri in the water could be an idea too;p

I like the coral reef.. very very nice.. keep it up

05 May 2005, 05:51 PM
No crits... It's really good to me... the lights seems very good in my opinion...
keep on going... great texture work
cya

05 May 2005, 06:01 PM
astonishing how your image keeps going better and better!:bounce:

Doubt it can be helpfull.... but maybe a little more different color for the oldman and the octopus? or is it so obvious? or do you plan to join them?

Anyway I trully love your wip, and i'm getting nervous about how awesome will be the final image, so good continuation.

05 May 2005, 06:07 PM
yeah really nice work here... but i have just one crit ( hate to be idiot but ) i think that octo is to shiny... ;0

05 May 2005, 06:57 PM
Hey, people, wait untill the water is all done (there will be water around I guess). I think that it will look great.

I used the image above in PS and added some water-like filter. It looks just wonderful.

great work monsitj! I just can't stop looking :)

05 May 2005, 07:23 PM
I love your idea, I already said that I think in a previous post, I think it's crazy, fun, and so unique.

You mention something about the picture being Flat... I have to agree there, but I'm not too sure fog and dof will be enough here.... I'm dying to see some SSS on your characters, especially on the octopuss. It would give more depth to your characters... I'm not too sure the lighting is appropriate for that purpose, but you might wanna give it a try anyway.

Great work man, keep going !

05 May 2005, 07:32 PM
I was waiting to see what it looks like with colors and picture and I was not specially optimistic. But I can just applause and say it's a really impressive work.
My only crit for the moment is to try to make the tortle more visible.

05 May 2005, 09:22 PM
I have no crits, I love the specularity and all! this was going to be underwater, isnt it? will you colour the lights?

05 May 2005, 03:52 AM
i dont know what DOF is but fog is certianly a good idea... underwater the particles are much thinker and therefor more pread out so jus be careful... dont make it look like its on the surface. but excellent model

05 May 2005, 04:37 AM
yes, fog and dof and ready to get some prizes

05 May 2005, 04:40 AM
Stunning piece of work there, Monjit
I've kept sneaking back and forth to your thread, and realised just now that I've not said a word of praise for you work.... until now ;) sorry for the delay, and all praise is fully worthy of your skills ;)

05 May 2005, 04:45 AM
Congratulations Monsit, a major update... very nice... I like your lighting

05 May 2005, 04:49 AM
I should have come here earler :buttrock:

I like the concept a lot, I see you are far ahead already.

If you don't mind could I ask how did you layer those render elements to make the turtle head? It looks awesome

05 May 2005, 05:21 AM
Hi Monsit.. Your Scene is getting better and better.. Great Work Man.. :buttrock: !! Keep it Up, You Rock Dude  !!!

05 May 2005, 01:55 PM
Lookin great Monsit. I'd go for slightly different color for the squid/octopus..maybe a bit darker. He's got a real similar color to the master now.

05 May 2005, 02:03 PM
good work here!

nice details, i love your lighting approach too !
take care with your turtle and branches around to not loose your details (same colors !)

3draven : yeah, have to adjust color , thanks for comments!

05 May 2005, 05:47 PM
There is no water filter in PS... but there is water in eyecandy and I use it on a separate layer, then I use different blend modes for that layer. I also use smoke (or clouds) under the water and blend it as luminosity or screen.

Try it :)

Last summer I didn't know anything about 3d, but I could still make great underwater scenes in PS ;)

05 May 2005, 07:58 PM
Really nice progress, monsit! Really nice work with the texturing and lighting. Need to read all the posts to make sure I don't repeat someone else. ;) Keep going man. This is excellent.

05 May 2005, 03:51 PM (

Hi! many thanks for comments!! here is overall composite so far , I have to squezze it to 150 k , so
It will have some flaw due to jpeg compression! , comments are alway welcome

05 May 2005, 04:29 PM
monsitj word some movement with them so you can make the scene even more alive.

05 May 2005, 05:09 PM
I love it, it so vibrant!
I love the blue reflected light that can be seen on the right part of the scene, behind the turtle and on the octopus.
Its very well color balanced.
Maybe adding a little blue fog so that the characters seem to be in the water?
youll do great anyway, Im sure youre thinking on every little detail.

05 May 2005, 05:36 PM
hey nice update man.... that blue light from the top is really nice...but i think the perspective of the water top is wrong.. it looks very odd.. u might want to give it a bit more attention... and put some blue tones in the characters i ur scene... well thats abt it from me... c ya l8rz

05 May 2005, 05:42 PM
As always, wonderful stuff. There just an endless amount of detail that brings out so much life in the picture. Just great. :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 05:45 PM
The water is just wonderful! I agree that it would be good with some foggyness or DOF - and Bubbles is really a must!

Great work, one of my favourites since the start

05 May 2005, 06:01 PM
amazing!! proffesional work

05 May 2005, 06:03 PM

05 May 2005, 09:19 PM
Yes monsitj... i want that poster tooo! :)

Just some more blue color over the characters... the rest is great!
amazing work!

05 May 2005, 09:21 PM
I agree with 3draven needs bubbles.

PS: Send me a poster too, mate

05 May 2005, 09:34 PM
It looks so realistic, it's beautiful , your work is incredible, you're a master of texturing and lighting, come on you're on the good way

05 May 2005, 10:04 PM
incredible realisation of your concept as always monsit.can u try adjusting the skin contrast between the master and the octopus by any chance?

05 May 2005, 10:18 PM
Hey, exelent job man. I know you will add a lot of details. I would like to know how you did that water and that light. Do you know the plugin Psunami to After and Combustion? It make like that. Good Luck. :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 10:52 PM
Looks great Monsit, loooks like yuor almsot done. With the underwater feel, I think the bubbles and water fog are needed. The octapus could be a bit darker too. Waiting to see the two little fishies.

05 May 2005, 11:50 PM
I think that the rock formation is too desaturated and it isn't working; they don't look like it is underwater. You need to saturate it more and blur it and add some fog for a more convincing depth effect. The farther it is from the camera, the blurier it should be, that will give it more sense that it is underwater and bring the main characters more into focus without loosing the richness of the details too much. The rocks that are the closest to the characters should have some color as well to make a better light diffusion effect.

Also consider adding particles in the water. Ocean water is seldomly this clean; even in the Caribbean. There are alot of nutrients in the water and this will also make for a more convincing water, you can blur them a bit and add some color so they aren't all the same.

It is looking great. Keep going.

05 May 2005, 03:10 AM
Outstanding work man! Good luck!

I have a comment. It seems to me that the rocks are too lit for the scene? Specially the one behind the "creature". Other than that::applause:

05 May 2005, 08:17 AM
3draven : thanks for comments and suggestion guys! I will give it a try
bealobo :thanks! but maybe I have to adjust background a bit coz ,now it distract from main charactor
overcontrast : thanks! i have to look at it carefully!
hhssuu: thanks man! i love your model too!
Gunilla,GarielW (o)ne,adel3d,orion77,atra,Illusion,cipher: many thanks for encouragements!
Jdsb : yes , I have to tweak it in the end ,!
banzato : about that water i use maya fluid ocean , position camera under it , and render and play with blending mode in photoshop , about the ray I just copy ocean layer , do level adjust to have just highlight and radial blur it ,
ace4016: thanks mr, snoopy:) i have to add debris ,fog ,and some bubbles!
Snows: yes I agre with you , now i work on background , maybe i fade them off,so they not distract with master
nemirc : thanks ! i 'm working on it !

05 May 2005, 08:26 AM
wooow kame hame sama... old man turtle.. i bow before ur skills and patience man...impressive

05 May 2005, 08:43 AM (

Hi! I add some caustics effect to my scene ,it's very subtle effect , so tell me what you think

05 May 2005, 09:25 AM
 Wow !Wonderful You are! P'Tom , Very fast Production, HeHe:applause:
>I think The fishes in Middle left BG are too flat like paper, more little hilight make them better
and Caustics on the old man is too sharp I think!
>Add Bubbles ,Particles,Fogs and Blue Shades Make This Great I think But Overall is Fantastic!:)
I can't wait to see your final images wow wooooow:bounce::bounce:

05 May 2005, 10:48 AM
it's a veru very very great pic, she's perhaps one of the best, the realistic ambiance is a succes, very good work:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 11:19 AM
with some bubbles it would be just great

05 May 2005, 01:23 PM
with some bubbles it would be just great

And some "floating stuff" as well (like those tiny particles they used on Nemo) :bounce:

05 May 2005, 01:26 PM
Cuastics are ok...particles in tiny mode will be good addition too (and some bubbles too :scream: )

05 May 2005, 02:19 PM
Very cool!! The only problem is they dont look underwater ... Maybe add the particles and bubles could help, and add more blue color in everything including the characters ...

Look this picture, everything is blue ... and more deep, more dark ...

05 May 2005, 04:30 PM
man this is amazing. just think the octopus have some problems.. take a look in this link..
hope i help u.. c ya !
best luck !

05 May 2005, 06:46 PM
Hey there, it's looking great so far dude!

If I had to comment on something, it would be like everyone else said, they absolutly do not look like they are underwater. Besides that, everything looks like plastic because of the strong specular white highlights on everything. I suspect if you loose the insanely strong specular lights, it will look more underwater are real. And, as previously mentioned, adding blue to everything would help it even more.

Otherwise, the model, subject matter, and representations thus far is super! Keep it up dude!

Looking forward to seeing more!

05 May 2005, 10:04 PM
hi monsitj!

I think the caustics are a touch! it is subtle but adds something to the composition, but again, I think the lights should be coloured (I ignore if youre making tests and Im talking too much :) ).

The picture is bright and beauty anyway.
 Keep it up!

05 May 2005, 11:02 PM
I hope you don't mind. gra7's picture points it out perfectly, and I decided to see if all that was needed was a blueish tint, so I took you last render and put a blue soft light and color dodge (although I don't think that was needed) layer over your last render to give it a blueish tint. Here it is:

I'll tkae it down if you want. Of course a foggier view like in gra7's would add to my "paintover." Keep going Monsit, your almost there.

05 May 2005, 11:08 PM
man ,the fluidity and the composition in the image is u mentioned some more tweaking, cant wait for updates:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 11:45 PM
I love your work ;)
for me, one of the best here.
imo caustic is too subtle now.

05 May 2005, 04:46 AM
ur work is amazing!! i like ur modeling and texturing!! it is underwater? the mood is really nice, just look not really underwater, maybe the lighting can be improve. i love ur work so much:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 05:36 AM
Solari_g : hhee ,thanks for comments , can you tell me your nick name?
MDN67 : many thanks mate! glad you like it
One : now I try to find good looking bubble to put in my scene:thumbsup:
Nemirc : yeah ! floating stuff are on the way!!
Dimitri : thanks for feedback! i check your entry and see that you work in new job! hard work and you still have time to work in challenge! you are iron man, heehee maybe find job for me ,I'm unemploy!!:applause:
JR.BRAZ : yeahhh!! your reference is great! but I have to balance some detail of main charactor and foggy of real ocean scene , now i really like the blue tone in your reference , so i follow it , many thanks!
gra7 : many thanks ! i've seen great article , and that is my inspiration in this challenge, I want to make my octopus more cartoony but have subtle touch of realism , so it come out diffent , and I don't have time to make fine detail too , so I think it 's not a problem hehehe:)
- FredH - : Hi! fred , many thanks for detail comment! straight to the point!! I think i've seen you at 3d total?? your work is awesome!
good luck!
bealobo: thanks for comments bealobo! no you don't talk too much, I always want your comments! I render it in pass , so it's easy to tweak light color , now i'm working on this , and as i tell above ,I have to balance my charactor with physcially correct underwater scene!
ace4016 : many many thanks ace, I totally dont mind your version , and now I work with your reference , I like deep blue tone , because my original is green-blue , I have to tweak it !
Jdsb: Hi , many thanks ! hope you join next challenge!
Axis man : thanks man! yes caustic i add is very subtle ,i think it's good to look at close up , but when i zoom out in actual size , caustic make my charactor noisy and distract , so i tone down it a bit
Jenn-yu : thanks mate! your model rocks too!

05 May 2005, 05:43 AM
I suspect if you loose the insanely strong specular lights, it will look more underwater are real.

Good point about the specular. Objects underwater actually have NO specular at all.
Nice work though, keep pushing it!

05 May 2005, 06:07 AM
Holly Mother.. :scream: .. Monsit.. What can I say Man? Better Nothing, I will just use these :bounce: .. :buttrock: .. .. and I think deep blue got better.. and I am just waiting your deep blue version.. Congratulations mate!

05 May 2005, 08:16 AM
:bounce: Hi Tomy,I really like you new update. It's very wonderful.I thought it was excellent. That's fantastic. You professional 3D artist.Good lucky. keep it up Keep it up. Tomy....:buttrock:

05 May 2005, 09:02 AM
hi monsit,i see many work u post in here, that all really good.......really love ur work :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 10:57 AM (

I add fog and small particle float around the scene , blur some element for depth effect , change color from your comments, image look grain because I think some particle stuff and compress jpeg , maybe I have to find balance point , I will post close up shot and do some tweak soon ,! what do you think??

05 May 2005, 12:48 PM (

i reduce some particle ,and here is close up with some color correct , add blue tone to charactor,

05 May 2005, 12:52 PM
I think it looks a lot bette now, yeah, that underwater feeling :bounce:

05 May 2005, 01:24 PM
The surface of the water is top notch...

05 May 2005, 02:00 PM
woah man, the light glare projected on the underground elements through the water is simply amazing, wow, that light glare on the masters arms is amaaaazing man, greeaattt feeling of depth:scream::eek::buttrock:

05 May 2005, 02:32 PM
the pic was very great but with this new update, i prefer this blue anbiance, it's more "ocean" like it, one of the best pic for me

05 May 2005, 03:23 PM
Yeah!! A lot better :bounce: Now they are underwater ... The version with less particles, is better than the first too.

I just miss some bubbles ... heheh

05 May 2005, 05:09 PM
yeah now you're taking... the last image looks fantastic... i like the colors and the contrast.. not that fond of those dloaty particles, mayb put them in eraguler manner?... some tweaks here and there and u got an amazing image in ur pocket... u wont need luck so i'm not gonna wish u... keep it up man

05 May 2005, 05:26 PM
Looking real good, Monsit! So far my favorite of the bunch. Keep tweaking and I'm sure we'll have a winner.

05 May 2005, 06:24 PM
Yeah, looking really good, keep it up the to tweak in this way, it's perfect

05 May 2005, 06:35 PM
Now that I see it, it feels like for some reason the guy is in front of the ocean, not in it.

05 May 2005, 07:04 PM
Now that I see it, it feels like for some reason the guy is in front of the ocean, not in it.

Looks a lot better now, but maybe the reason why, as nemirc said, he looks like he is in front of th ocean is because the characters themselves don't have the same blue effect as the rocks around them. Too much of their own color shows. The volume of the water is much better now though. Just a few more tweaks and your there. Keep it up:thumbsup: .

05 May 2005, 07:27 PM
Man i wish i was as good as you with the underwater stuff, my GSO would have looked so much better :) Great stuff man, you're too good. Oh, and i love the wobbly fish above the guy's hands, he's alsome.

05 May 2005, 08:19 PM
Wow, looking really great!!! Have to learn a lot to get on this level! Just awesome:thumbsup:

05 May 2005, 10:51 PM
I think that bubbles wil add to the depth, and create a better appearance of the old man being "in" the ocean.......I also think a bit more contrast in-between the octopuss and old man would be a nice extra touch......

.....................Other than these minor thoughts I can just say it's a very nice piece of art,and real nice to see come to life,a fine touch, and a sensitive one.......Well done, very well done....:arteest: :arteest:

05 May 2005, 12:45 AM
simply fantastic man !

congrats !

05 May 2005, 02:37 AM
it looks , no- integrated. like if you render each element by itself and then you join it. render all in the same scene ( if im correct ) i think that will help. if im incorrect sorry  and also sorry por my english.

05 May 2005, 10:22 AM
does this look particuarly bright to anyone else?

05 May 2005, 04:26 PM
does this look particuarly bright to anyone else?

Only the "characters look like they are in front of a screen" factor, but I mentioned that above.

05 May 2005, 05:42 PM
Hey monsitj, realy amazing work! I'm stunned, so magnificent! Damn, I wish I were so good!

05 May 2005, 11:05 PM
Wow, a lot of things happening in your image - specially like the contrast of materials and colours between the fish and the sub-monk. Great stuff if you ask me.

Overcontrast : many thanks! now I try to vary scale of particle ,
nemirc ace4016: many thanks ! for your comment and as I said , I have to find the balance point to make my charactor stand out in image , I try to put him in fog, it's feel like he is in water , but when I see whole image ,the contrast of my image drop , so I have to adjust it back , anyway, there are still time to tweak, hope you come here again and drop some suggestion!
hhssuu : thanks friend! your dog is awesome too!

Your work is constantly inspiring!:buttrock:  :arteest: :arteest:

05 May 2005, 06:07 PM
Really nice progress! Love the overall lighting and composition. Top notch stuff! The octo still seems to float in front of the see for me...I think it's the upper right tentacle. It looks like it should have some of that blue fog covering its tip. Basically, acting as a bridge between the background and foreground...Keep up the wonderful updates. :bounce:

05 May 2005, 07:03 PM
man this is getting better and better... but one thing came up,,, that bottle that the old guy holding could be floating.. like a Zero-gravity feel and underwater everything is kinda floaty so think about that.. but so far i like verything abt this... keep it up mate, it turned out awesome

05 May 2005, 07:47 PM
Much, much better. No doubt the characters are underwater now. Just keeps getting better and better (as everyone else is saying). I'm a bit surprised that your unemployed:eek: . Looks like your pretty much done to me. GJ:thumbsup: .

05 May 2005, 08:02 PM
Looking good, now it looks like it is underwater. The key light is too bright for an underwater scene having in mind that the main light is the sun and not an artificial strobe light source like in a pro underwater camera rig; but there is some creative liscence there. nice job!

05 May 2005, 08:38 PM
I agree about the bottle floating more. What more can I say? The last update looks a lot better (finally some bubbles :D ) Shock us again with your next update Monsit

05 May 2005, 10:59 PM
:drool:wow......oh my! u are one of my favorites again...this time youre going to make it!

very good work! TOP-10 for sure.

PS this stick behind master character... reminds me of lighwave logo... was it intended? or maybe it's just a matter of... perception? :curious:

05 May 2005, 08:30 PM
Great work. I think you got your chance for the win. But it's not a suprise when I see what you have done for the other challenge:)

For me the strength of your picture are the colors (many different and a very beautiful blue for the sea), the originality of the character, the quality of modeling, pose in fact everything, and the details
The only lack can be the details (I know I saied it was strength but it can be a little messy it depends on point of view) and maybe will the judges decided you really answer the theme even your story explain it... Well no in fact, there's nothing to change :scream:

Anyway it's a great piece of art. Congratulations  and another

05 May 2005, 09:33 PM
ooh..i think its a winner

05 May 2005, 12:36 AM
Outstanding work! Best of luck!

05 May 2005, 04:12 AM
Sweet! Very nice image. I would have made the old man's beard and mustache float a bit like the octopus' arms... But very, very nice. Good comp, too!

05 May 2005, 05:57 AM
:applause: You know that... I'm an undefectible fan of your art Monsit... and this is an another masterpiece... That I may say. It is image is formidable, with that of dimitris it is my preferred, it loosens an incredible atmosphere. I like this illustration, for little, I would dive into the screen to go to bathe me with your master and her servants. A very beautiful realization, bravo:applause:

Nice.Really like this.This will be top 10.
I wish you could have given the turtle a real nice exotic shell, beautiful colors.these are like a rock, good but could have been better.
Also the octopus should have contrasted better from the old man.The skins are too much the same, they blend in together too much, you needed more contrast. The octopus should have had more vibrant colors, more alive.deep rich colors.Plus the suction cups look too square.
Still, you got a real fine top 10 picture here man.gL.

Absolutely stunning. My only crit is that you should've cropped the picture closer to the aspect ratio of Ballistic Publishing's books, because this may well make it onto the cover ;)
