Ali Tezel has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Modeling: Pig Facial expression (

Just trying to find a good facial expression for the pig. I'll go in and finish the model in a bit fix the ears and add the mouth interior and the tongue. Than going to take this to zbrush and add minor touchups.

03-22-2005, 01:57 AM
concept and stuff coming soon.

The idea is waiters serving a obnoxious customer portrayed as a big fat pig. I worked as a waiter once and have some horror stories i can draw inspiration from.

back to sketching now :)

welcome to ze party mr sheepie

03-22-2005, 08:58 AM

Started doing some quick characters sketches , will be doing this for a day or two until i am happy with a char design and pose\attitude for the general scene. will post some more later.

03-22-2005, 09:42 AM
You are in a challenge.... Very nice idea by the way man... And it is quite original btw....

03-22-2005, 12:13 PM
The attitude in the pose is full of great character. Can't wait for more!

03-22-2005, 12:29 PM
hehe cool idea man and nice first sketch, keep sending MORE and MORE :)

03-22-2005, 04:41 PM
Nice concept so far, Ali. Good silhouette and strong shapes. Looking forward to seeing more. :)

03-22-2005, 05:27 PM
•Ali, Nice to meet u! and welcome to the battle!

03-22-2005, 06:40 PM

Anyways, Im gonna watch your thread (and many others) looks like your off to a fine start too :)

03-22-2005, 07:16 PM
Thanks for the comments guys , I pretty much finalized the layout i have in mind , will post tonight after i do some more concept drawings.

03-22-2005, 07:51 PM
looks caracteristic (cool already) see you.

03-22-2005, 09:06 PM
that sketch has style. I'm sure it would look awesome in 3d

03-22-2005, 09:08 PM
sheep - I just remembered what this reminded me of, the monty pythons skit with the fat guy that keeps eating and puking.. haha

03-22-2005, 09:59 PM
We, as the friends from Bilkent University very proud of you. Nice first sketch. We believe the final still will be pretty cool. Good Luck!:buttrock:

03-23-2005, 03:00 AM
cool design CF, looking forward to following this one :)

Good luck!

03-23-2005, 05:20 AM (

Doing some early composition tests to find a good composition , this is by no means final.

03-23-2005, 05:24 AM
nice man.. are you going to have the 4 poses of the waiters? or is that just for testing purposes?

I think this will be good :)

03-23-2005, 05:29 AM
Being a bartender/server I can totally feel this one. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

03-23-2005, 05:41 AM

here are 3 more possible angles. What do you guys think? I really suck at this layout thing so would really appreciate any crits or pointers :)

03-23-2005, 05:49 AM
The guy, 3rd from the piggy, has a really great pose. You gotta keep that one.
I also think the first layout you posted is the best sofar.

03-23-2005, 06:31 AM
Hi , sheep , glad to see you here! about the latest layout camera angle is distort too much, it get dynamic image but maybe it make you modle look odd (in my opionion)

03-23-2005, 06:34 AM
Yea maybe i shouldnt use wideangle? I have no clue about what the camera settings do so will figure that out in time , i am back to trusty 2d sketching to try some layouts :)

but overall i want a wide angle image that'll somehow show the waiters rushing to serve the pig , so it'll be much more dynamic than what that layout suggests (hopefully)

03-23-2005, 06:38 AM
I like both the first and second angles. The first angle is more....dynamic, while the second one seems like its telling a story of different events/actions in one still. Maybe go with the first one.

03-23-2005, 06:49 AM
I would make an over-the-shoulder view, from the pig/gluton's right shoulder, so we could see his size over the waiters' and at the same time clearly see all the food. It would still enable us to view the pig and maybe even add some "artistic" unclarity as to his actual appearance.

03-23-2005, 06:59 AM

I think telephoto works better for those closeup angles.

03-23-2005, 07:53 AM
hmmm, those camera aperture doesn't show well the scene, why not using a simple 35 or 16 mm camera... the layout3 is cool but there's too much deformation, try to think about the point of view you want to give, pov of the waiter, of the customer, of someone that see the scene...

and yeah it reminds me monthy python also, anyway i see in this scene a cool caricature/critic... keep it up

03-23-2005, 08:38 AM

This'll be cool.

03-23-2005, 08:57 AM
I really like your idea... extremely original !

Viewing all you camera test actually my preffered is the first post on your submission page were is possible to see different people to serve, I'm not so impressed about other camera test to be honest.

good luck Ali !!!

03-23-2005, 03:47 PM
I think the last angle is pretty good, however the camera angle test is early. May be you can find more impressive poses after doing the modelling.

İyi şanslar :D

03-23-2005, 03:54 PM
hey, nice idea... gluttony ;p

the waiter designs look cool.. waiting for more

03-23-2005, 03:55 PM
Impressive to say the least sheep, whoa this is nice. Right now I cant deciede on a camera angle but I know you will :)

Defintely subscribing to this my friend!

03-23-2005, 05:56 PM
Looking good, Ali. I think your current camera settings/framing makes it seem like you're trying too hard to find a dynamic angle and framing solution... I personally like the first angle you posted. The wide-angle shots don't really convey the same feeling, and don't show the scene very well; in a similar fashion, the telephoto are so close to isometric that they don't seem natural.

So far the first is your strongest, I think. I changed the cropping a bit for a couple suggestions:
1) Show less of the floor/ceiling to push the action in the center.
2) Crop left and right to let the chair of the pig help the frame on the left, and have a waiter emerging from the right frame. Right now the far right waiter seems a bit floaty in his position.

I think a simple camera setup would be best... let the poses and scene layout tell the major part of the story :)

Anyway, just random babbling suggestions. Keep up the nice work. :)

03-23-2005, 06:12 PM
I like the ones that focus on the front of the giant slob, because i think his face willr eally be able to sell this idea, the waiters are the servants, they are almost food int hemselves, so focusing on this giatn blob man will be the coolest way to go, especially if you can show 3 or more waiters comign toward camera blurring, almost like its just an endless line up of food carriers.

thats jsut my opinion tho

Regardless this is looking really cool man!

03-23-2005, 06:17 PM
Like the concept of food servers as I enjopy good food!

My entry:

03-23-2005, 06:44 PM
good idea.
looking forward for more.
best of luck.

03-23-2005, 06:48 PM
it's jabba the hut ?

good idea and good luck ;)

03-23-2005, 06:51 PM
cheers guys ,

I'll try to finish the waiter or pig char design today and start modelling

updates coming soon!

03-23-2005, 07:43 PM
Greets Sheep Factory, bent approach to this so far...Love it!
I think the shots that focus on the pig carry the concept over best so far.
Good luck:scream:

My Fault
03-23-2005, 07:50 PM
Great stuff. I would agree with others that think the pig's corpulence should dominate the scene. Would really show just how awful the life his waiters exist in. Positioning the waiters so that the line of action all falls towards the pigs mouth would be nice as well.

BTW, love your waiter sketch!

03-24-2005, 06:46 PM
cant wait to see the characters fully modeled!

*rob schneider voice* YOU CAN DO IT! :D

03-25-2005, 07:27 AM (

This is the concept sketch of the pig. I'll do a more detailed one later on , just knocked this one out quickly but this is pretty much how the pigs expression will look.

03-25-2005, 07:31 AM
also the pig will be wearing a tuxedo in the final image , that sketch doesnt show it.

03-25-2005, 07:34 AM
awesome drawing, can't wait to see the model.

03-25-2005, 07:39 AM
this is a great news,to see u sheep factory being participated in this challenge!
waitin for ur beggining,,,

03-25-2005, 07:43 AM
very nice Ali! He really looks like hes eating like a pig ;). Cant wait to see how it translates to a model and final result!

03-25-2005, 07:53 AM
U could try an angle from the left close to the face of a waiter and having so infront of the camera the PIG eating in a discusting way and at the same time u could show tothe right part of your image ( and maybe one more waiter behind the pig) the face of the waiter serving him that moment with a face of big surpise and almost fear....this way u could focus more on 2 main and one secondary character...:bounce:

03-25-2005, 08:08 AM
Nice concept of the slob. Whne I saw the sketch I was just about to say "dont forget the tuxedo." Maybe a monocle wouldnt hurt either. Hope to see more soon.

03-25-2005, 08:08 AM
hehe nice one (or ugly i should say...), good feeling of digusting, keep it up !

03-25-2005, 08:10 AM
Nice concept of the slob. Whne I saw the sketch I was just about to say "dont forget the tuxedo." Maybe a monocle wouldnt hurt either. Hope to see more soon.

monocle hahaha :D

that might actually work , i'll try it out when the model is done.

03-25-2005, 09:12 AM
Hahahaha...I loved the pig!!! Man if you can make it exactly like this in 3D will be an AMAZING work

I wish you luck fellow!

03-25-2005, 12:23 PM
I think of Orwell, when i see your pics. Great pig.

03-25-2005, 04:32 PM
the pig is great. even if you put this sketch near the title of the challenge, the composition tells everything of the main purpose.

03-25-2005, 04:56 PM
Cool idea Ali. One thing I thought might be cool is if the waiters were blatently identical... maybe even with numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) somewhere on their shirts/jackets to make them like cogs in the machine. That pig is going to just be slamming those guys... "MORE!! MORE!! FASTER!!... SEND SEVEN MORE OF THESE!!" kind of thing :)

03-25-2005, 04:59 PM
I love it. Sketches look wonderful, very expressive. Look forward to seeing more!

03-25-2005, 05:01 PM

Thats a great idea , i wanted to make them the same but didnt know how I can get away with it but thanks to your number idea , now i can :) , cheers man!

And thanks everyone so much for the comments.

03-25-2005, 05:10 PM
Looking great so far, Ali. I think Gene's idea about the numbers would work very well... lots of drones serving one master. The pig sketch looks pretty spot-on as to what you're trying to convey. Can't wait to see it finished :)

03-25-2005, 05:36 PM
looks sweeet man, I love the pigs face, he looks demanding yet shocked at the same time...

and a monicle would rock.

03-25-2005, 05:44 PM
That pig's so cool, gotta love the 3d version to come..! :D

03-25-2005, 05:50 PM
now that's something u dont see serving pigs!...very interesting concept indeed. i guess it's the cook that really slaves to death huh.

03-25-2005, 05:57 PM
WOW, the idea of using PIG is really cool man, it reminds me of something from the film SPIRITED AWAY man.

03-25-2005, 06:19 PM
lovely idea man , a very stylised concept, great composition too. Look forward to this one

03-25-2005, 06:40 PM
a pig going hog wild :bounce: ... subscribed

03-25-2005, 06:55 PM
I'd have to agree with Stipe, it's defintely a stylized concept and very cool. The pig is a gas lol.

03-25-2005, 07:16 PM
Yeah , i love the idea :)
The pig sketch is great also,i'm sur it will be a very cool model !

03-25-2005, 07:21 PM
• Great Ali! I like the idea, waiting to see them in the third dimension!

03-25-2005, 07:30 PM
nice idea, love the pig sketch :D

03-25-2005, 07:37 PM
Nice pig!! Reminds me of charlette's web. I look forward to the later sketches/models.

My skills at this point wouldn't permit me to enter this contest, although I'm Planning on doing a project for my own personal enrichment. Planning on using XSI and Photoshop. Only thing is I'm torn for an idea....bit of "writer's" block. Been a while since I've tickled that part of the brain.....I'm thinking:

a. Homeless man with his dog (oil paint style)

b. dragon and it's master (cliché D&D style)

c. Scary psycho man who's only love is his legion of furry bunny creatures who's lust for human flesh has scarred the man for life..... (don't ask....)

look forward to seeing what everyone is doing!!

03-25-2005, 08:14 PM
nice idea, love the pig sketch :D
haha the right person talk about it :D

really like it  !

03-25-2005, 08:37 PM
Hey there good sir, Your concept is developing rapidly, love thi pig sketch, although I think it would benefit from a little more stylising an exaggeration (and muck). Great to see some fine art skills coming through in tour work ;).

03-25-2005, 08:56 PM
I like this a lot, keep up the good work!

Your pig looks straight out of "Spirited Away" the animated film. I would suggest that you place the camera behind the waiters. This would make the audience feel the anticipation, disgust, and situation that the waiters are in. I'd want to see the waiters standing in line talking to each other before its their turn to impress and serve the pig. The impact of the amount of food the pig is eating is not as strong in the close up shots showing only a couple waiters, in my opinion. :) Good Luck

03-25-2005, 11:34 PM
looking good Ali, the Heat is on :D

I entered as well WHOOOO

good luck buddy, put some amazing detail in that pigs face.

03-26-2005, 06:39 AM

here is where i am with the pig head. i am not too happy with it so might start over , this is my first ever creature head model so going kinda slow I am sure the second time will be better.
Tried to stay faithful to the sketch , dunno if I succeeded :D

03-26-2005, 07:03 AM
Hi sheep, well imo i just think your pig is to simple right now. it looks like a pig, that part is fine, but i think you should at least double the detail in it, you can get a lot better shapes if you did this. right now you are really pulling on them few details and relying on the sub D to give nice fatty pig face. i hope that makes sense. i would just add a lot more detail. a way i like working is to find a reference image i like, and in XSI put a camera memorization and get it to the angle of the reference image. then when i model i can compare really easily. like this pig i think is some pretty good reference for what you're doing. i hope that made sense...all of it i mean.

03-26-2005, 07:41 AM
Just found this thread. I love your concept and I hope you success in the challenge! Pig looks good to me. Looking forward to more updates.

BTW, I saw your Avatar and had a good hard laugh. Almost woke up the whole house.

03-26-2005, 04:38 PM
lol, funny progress, i'll keep watching! of course like the piggy, very kewl chary you're bout to create :)

03-26-2005, 07:14 PM
Lol! Awesome idea! I was thinking that it could be cool if there were a bunch of stacked plates, bones, and other bits of garbage that the waiters had to dodge on their way to the pig, kind of giving the idea that he has been there for a while and it makes the waiter's job harder.

03-26-2005, 07:37 PM
Dunno about the ears dude!

They look awefully unsuited to a fat character, and they'll jump out anyway you look at it.
Very nice otherwise, and speedy progress!

03-26-2005, 07:54 PM
Hey it's beginning to have some serious shape, from what i can see the lower mouth should be more thicker... but it's a very wip head so best is coming i suppose ;)

03-26-2005, 07:58 PM
Hi, (Ali Tezel'e selamlar!!!)
The conceptial sketches seem near George Orwell's Animal Farm to me...It makes me feel the same when I look at yours but the pigs were intelligent in the movie/novel not as the one in your sketches...More nihilistic mood maybe you want...Keep good work goin' !!!

03-27-2005, 07:59 AM

Small update on the pig head , gonna update again before the night is over :)

03-27-2005, 10:22 AM (

modelling the pig head still , made him fatter and put the eyes in. More work to come.

03-27-2005, 10:44 AM
Very nice modeling :bounce:

03-27-2005, 12:27 PM
wow ! great pig! your modeling is cool! keep updating!

Green bird
03-27-2005, 02:33 PM
Pig's head looks nice and clean so far
I hope we'll see his body soon :)

orion 77
03-27-2005, 02:37 PM
i think the stylized pig will be a better option ali, i think you shouldnt worry about the style but let your natural style come out otherwise it would too time consuming tweaking it to get the ideal look.

keep it goin.

03-27-2005, 04:28 PM
I like the update! Definitly looks fatter. I say move on to the body, then you'll get an overall feeling of his weight and can adjust the head based on the rest of his mass.

03-27-2005, 04:33 PM
Hope the pig will pay for everithing. He's got a creditcard :-) Good start. Looking forward...

03-27-2005, 04:45 PM
Great idea ! looking foward to next updates :buttrock:

03-27-2005, 07:01 PM
Pigs starting to take shape well. Only crit i have is that the ears look a bit too narrow. Keep up that good work, i am loving the style.

03-27-2005, 07:09 PM
Thanks for the comments guys

the ears definitely need work havent touched them yet since the first version of the model , gonna be modelling the mouth , teeth and ears today , and start on the tuxedo.

03-27-2005, 07:17 PM
go go go :wip: your concept is so great and all what I see here promise a wonderful work

03-27-2005, 07:25 PM
great pig head, i am doing a wild bore fore work youst now (cant show it, sorry) and its a triky beast to geat around, see you and great work.

03-27-2005, 07:35 PM
Yup i think also that u are in a very good road with this...i really want to see the workflow on the tuxedo too...:)

By the way , thanks for the help in my wip :)

03-27-2005, 07:56 PM

Great model . I like idea. :)
Good luck.

03-27-2005, 08:31 PM
great model man

03-28-2005, 02:12 AM
Nice work man. I really love it so far. By your reference im guessing your going for a very animalistic pig, such as what was seen on spirited away?

Great job!!

03-28-2005, 03:04 AM
Spit roasted pig! Full of stuffing! Kegs of cold beer! Dude you made me hungry

Slurp...... Oh nice model man looks promising! keep it up let's see some more of that piggy wiggy.... l8r dude

03-28-2005, 03:14 AM
great concept !
good luck with it

03-28-2005, 03:40 AM
somehow i missed the modeling stages or I would have commented earlier,

Cool mdoel so far, you already mentioned the ear, but I think he has pretty good look to him already, very piggy, or pigtastic if you will.

03-28-2005, 04:13 AM (

Just trying to find a good facial expression for the pig. I'll go in and finish the model in a bit fix the ears and add the mouth interior and the tongue. Than going to take this to zbrush and add minor touchups.

03-28-2005, 04:23 AM
thanks ian! still waiting for your entry man :D

03-28-2005, 04:38 AM
Haha.. I really love your view on Master & Servant, great stuff sofar!

03-28-2005, 04:39 AM
I think once you break the symmetry it should look really good. the brows could use more exaggeration as well.

03-28-2005, 05:22 AM
Thanks for the notes :)
Good luck

Ooo hocam teşekkürler ;). Eleştirilerinizi bekleriz.

03-28-2005, 05:24 AM
Ehehe kendi sayfama yazacağım şeyi gittim buraya yazdım, neyse olsun.

03-28-2005, 10:20 AM
Coool piggy. Reminds me of the fat barfing dude in Monty Python. Blaaaaarrrrrgggggsppppiiiisssshhhhh!!! :D

Keep it up man.

03-28-2005, 11:24 AM
Excellent concept - and the pig is looking very sweet. Like you've said, the ears seem to need work, maybe moved round the side of the head more.

I'm greatly looking forward to seeing this progress :D

03-28-2005, 11:52 AM
Heya, it looks very cool man, can't wait to see more details,it's nice modeling so far:thumbsup:

edit : yes this thread remind me of course orwell's animal farm but also a french song from Jacques Brel...

"Les bourgeois
C'est comme les cochons
Plus ca devient vieux
Plus ca devient con"

"The Bourgeois
They're like the pig
The more they become old
The more they become sod!"

ok that was all for the corral today :)

03-28-2005, 11:58 AM
I'm enjoying this thread. Cool stuff.

03-28-2005, 11:58 AM
Very cool idea, i like it!! The pig model is pretty cool too!! Keep on dude!!

03-28-2005, 12:39 PM

03-28-2005, 04:48 PM
Cgmonkey: Thanks man , yours is coming along nicely too!

Dom: Agreed , once i finish the whole thing i'll just go in and vreak all symmetry , this one was just a test to see if the topology works to sculpt expressions. Thanks for your comments.

NtMonkey: I swear i'll rush to the store and buy that monthy python movie when this is done , its the only one i havent seen and reluctant to watch it cause i dont want this to go to any other direction than whats in my head. I hope i am not ripping it off by accident. where is your update! :)

AJ: Thanks man! , now wouldnt it be really funny if we both finished this one :) I think the world might end or maybe something worse like they stop making nutella...gasp

Cipher: Thanks man , looking forward to your granny update too!

Nathellion: Thanks for the comments!

Pbarrelas: thanks!

Meykurt: Indeed thats my goal :)

Eddieellis: Thanks! , havent seen animal farm but i'll check it out once this is over.

dmonk: thanks mate!

Kid Mesh , i cant wait either , it'll be a very light treatment though. I hate the overly zbrushed look , just subtle details here and there.

_dd: Cheers mate , you should join this one too!

Thanks everyone so much for the comments , makes me wanna work on it that much harder!

03-28-2005, 04:50 PM
cooll the pig hahaha..
i just see problems with the ears..

03-28-2005, 04:52 PM
Yes the ears I didnt touch since the base model , they are being fixed.

03-28-2005, 05:07 PM
killer concept sheep!

That last expression is fantastic! The eyes are already looking mean and demanding.
Keep it up! -subscribed-

03-28-2005, 05:35 PM
Hey ali, pretty wicked seeing some of your work, really hope you finish this project. Good luck with am too mate.

I get happy every time when I hear or read about an idea or a concept of an original thing. (What did I say). Congratulations. Your concept is ranking (and sharing) the second and third place in my mind throughout all the challengers' concepts. First one is taking the master as an announcement tower (or a TV-radio aerial) and latter can be guessed easily. (remembered me the big brother story etc.).

Second place is yours and one another challenger's one about a tailor and his huuuge fat client.

Congratulations. Thumbs up.

Love the concept, latest pig WIP is brilliant.

A couple thoughts:

- The pig is walking the tightrope of being a bit too cute right now... maybe turning his nose a bit more downward and letting his features sag a bit might play up the slobbishness? Can't shake the picture in my head from Meaning of Life.... "would monseiur care for a wafer thin mint?"

- Wide angle lenses tend to exaggerate perspective, but the effect is lost if everything in frame is planar... perhaps orbiting the camera a bit so that the line of waiters trails off lower camera right might help with the composition a little?

Best of luck... you're on my sub list!

Good work on the pig so far.

Hi there,

Looking very good so far. I really would love to see the final.

One suggestion. Maybe you can do a triple by adding some servants to waiters or the pig itself. It might resemble Jabba but it would look nice.

Hocam bravo. Umarım kazanan listesinde adını görürüz.

Kolay gelsin.
