best of luck everyone :)

03-22-2005, 01:41 PM
my first concept :), I've done some quick messy sketches for the master, and this is the one I like most.

03-22-2005, 01:49 PM
Looking good :) maybe largen the hands a bit... And some more muscles in the lower arms wouldn't be bad either :D

03-22-2005, 02:25 PM
yeah, they need a bit more meat, especially on the left side :)

03-22-2005, 04:57 PM
hey Nick!!

good start so far. looking forward to further details.
keep us updated:thumbsup:

I'm working out the head for modelling, front pic is done. I've used some references from an anatomy book, since I never made a skull-like head :). Tomorrow I will finnish the side pic, and the story behind this image to be :)

03-22-2005, 07:46 PM
:| looking good man!
Lightning speed :)
keep it up! :D

noticed you ditched the thingy on the center of his skull? Did u just discard that or wat? seemed cool idea on the sketch

03-22-2005, 07:53 PM
wow, good job, that pic is very usefull for reference!

03-22-2005, 08:01 PM
Nice energetic sketches.

Da Master sure deserves respect!

Good Luck.

03-22-2005, 08:22 PM
Nice sketches. Good luck on the contest!

03-22-2005, 08:43 PM
thx for the comments guys :)

wussie : I actually just kinda forgot  to draw the 'thingy on the center of the skull', but I wasn't sure about what do with it anyway. I could stick a carrot in his skull on that spot tho.. :)

03-22-2005, 09:03 PM
Hi Nick! Your avatar is so cool that I thought I'd subscribe :D

03-22-2005, 11:18 PM
lol, some play baseball, some make silly avatars ;)

03-23-2005, 12:18 AM
Yeah cool sketch man :)
I'm agree with Wussie and coCoKNIght...

->some bigger hands will give a more savage aspect to your demon
->your avatar is a real masterpiece :D

03-23-2005, 01:51 AM
nice to see a fellow demon modeler here, nice concepts so far!! good luck man!

03-23-2005, 01:57 AM
Nice start Nix0r...I'll be watching man

03-23-2005, 02:25 AM

03-23-2005, 03:19 AM

Finnished the front and side of the head :), I'm ready to start modelling now. I'll probably add some more details/adjustments to this pic while working on the face in 3D.

03-23-2005, 05:24 AM
Just a small sugestion, looking at his musculous body, a bit flesht (even if ripped off most parts or rotten off will 1st: make sure, head and body belong to each other, 2nd: make hime even more scary (found that out when i had to make a scary skull tattoo for a friend).
Wish ya loadsa fun and best luck! Cheers:thumbsup:

03-23-2005, 05:26 AM
nice, cant wait to see the models :D

03-23-2005, 05:53 AM
yeah, i agree with angel... might wanna add some flesh here or there :D
but looking good as usual :)
keep it up!

03-23-2005, 06:43 AM
maybe you can add a sort of cracks in the skull(in the parts that are visible bone). keep them coming:)

03-23-2005, 02:43 PM
I think you're right angel :). I'll add some flesh and skin to his face,
otherwise it would look something like this ;)

I'm also going to add some more cracks to the skull, but like I said: I'll add extra details while modelling, otherwise the front and side pic will become too busy which could make modelling a pain in the *ss ;)

thx for all the comments guys!

Update on the head :), I'm not sure about the middle horn though, I'll probably change it into something else or just completely remove it ;). The horns on the side still look a bit weak, but I'll fix that in the next update. c&c are welcome of course

03-24-2005, 12:33 AM
Greets nix0r, great head start on the rest of us...I think his upper browbones could be heftier to add to his fear factor...
Go hard bongobrains:thumbsup:

03-24-2005, 01:06 AM
The modeling section is off to a good start.

03-24-2005, 01:12 AM
Looking real good man, everything seems ok but maybe experiment with making the cranium just a little bigger especially if you choose to go with larger horns

Gotta love Hellboy!

03-24-2005, 01:17 AM
I agree with kid. The bigger the better..but not so big.
love the bags under the eyes

03-24-2005, 01:30 AM
Really promising start man keep the updates flowing going to be interesting

03-24-2005, 01:31 AM
nice start, bigger horns are a must

I like the eye sockets though..hehe

03-24-2005, 01:47 AM
hey guys, thx for the comments and crits :).

-Virtuoso : Good guess Michael :), but it's actually mr terminator schwarzenegger :D, are you into bodybuilding? You've got a cool storyline for your concept man :), get to it!

-DaddyMack : haha I acutally made them a little bit smaller since my first modelling pic :D. I'll size them up a bit, and let you guys decide what's better :)

-Kid Mesh & Troof : I agree with you guys. Looking at my front and side pic you can see it's supposed to be bigger then it is now, I still have to give it some work :)

-Geta-Ve : thx, I'm quite happy with the eyesockets. Don't worry, the horns will deffinetly get bigger ;)

03-24-2005, 02:42 AM
great start. the model is nice and mean looking. you look like one to watch out for. good luck

03-24-2005, 03:21 AM
Jep, great start indeed.
i am not 100% sure about the bulge around his eye yet, but its early stage so keep up the speed! cheers,

03-24-2005, 08:12 AM
still looking good nick :D I do agree on the "widen the skull" a bit thingy, should make him somewhat scarier.
I'm not totally sure if i like the center horn tho. but anyways
keep it up :)

03-24-2005, 03:18 PM
on a human skull there is a bone from under your eye to your ear. its missing on thisone. but it makes the skull wider, not sure if you want that..

03-24-2005, 03:40 PM
I know :), but I'm not done yet :P. Look at this pic to see how wide it'll be.

Wussie ; any suggestions for the middle horn? :)

03-24-2005, 05:07 PM
hmmm, how about you make it pointing forward, like it was used as a weapon to poke people with? i dunno :)
could make it all bloody and stuff :D:D

03-24-2005, 06:54 PM
That's going to look killer when you finish it, those are some big arse horns! In regards to the middle horn, Id wait to see what happens after you model the big ones. For all its worth it may take away from the full effect of the big horns and you might end up deleting it

03-24-2005, 06:55 PM
hmmm, how about you make it pointing forward, like it was used as a weapon to poke people with? i dunno :)
could make it all bloody and stuff :D:D

haha I like that :D

You could always have the middle horn broken off? or what not.

great job so far man :)

03-24-2005, 08:10 PM
a feafull demon that is.......love the modeling here its well modeled and clean :buttrock:

03-24-2005, 08:15 PM
I like the width......thicker looking,tougher........Nice modeling Nick.Loks to be on a fine road.........:arteest:

03-25-2005, 06:25 PM
haha I like that :D

You could always have the middle horn broken off? or what not.

great job so far man :)

yeah a broken horn would be nice as well :D:D
we'll see what comes out :p

03-25-2005, 06:59 PM
Yeah the broken horn is a very good idea , for the moment this central horn is the only detail which disturb me on this model ! I think you can also work on the base of the horn to integrate them more to the skull ! :)

(Well my english sux , i hope you see what i mean :hmm: )

03-25-2005, 07:31 PM
Good idea on the broken horn guys ^^, I'm not happy with how it is now so I guess i'll just break the damn thing ;).

I understand what you mean goul, I'm still going to do that since I still have to detail the top of the skull :). It's on my to-do list :D. For now I've mainly been working on the lower jaw, which is almost done. I'll probably show you guys an update after i've finnished that :), somewhere tomorrow.

03-26-2005, 12:38 AM
give us an update man! break the HORN!! BREAK IT! :banghead:

03-26-2005, 02:04 AM
i know weird me, but a funny thing also could be the 3rd eye there...

03-26-2005, 02:22 AM
hey there dude.. like to compliment yah on ay fine modeling and a great start good luck dude...

03-26-2005, 07:40 AM
a third eye looks great to me, it will look awesome. I am looking forward to your updates:)

03-26-2005, 10:58 AM
A third eye halfclosed in the middle of the head? Whoa that would look insanely creepy, wow now that I would definitely have to see.

03-26-2005, 03:44 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5655/5655_1111851846_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/5655/5655_1111851846_large.jpg)

New update :), I've been working on the jaw and the side of the head. The horns are a bit bigger now. About the middle one ; I'll let you guys decide what to do with it :), do you want a thrid eye or a broken horn? start the voting :D I also had a moment of boredom so I started playing around with bumpmapping ;), nothing serious tho. I'll do some tweaking tonight, and finnish the jaw and nose. Tell me what you think guys, c&c welcome.

03-26-2005, 03:52 PM
nixor - This is looking really good man, really good. Actually I like it just like it is! keep it up. Go man go!

03-26-2005, 04:04 PM
Hey Nick,

Cool concept and modelling  Good luck with the rest of the challange dude!

Oh I like your avatar! kinda makes you want to start making chimp noises after a while :D

03-26-2005, 07:54 PM
heh :) n1 nick,
wouldn't add a 3rd eye tho...
keep it up and good luck :)

03-26-2005, 08:02 PM
Coming along very nicely Nick...........

As of now my opinions are: i would not care to see a third eye.I think it's overkill for this praticular character, plus you already have a very nice shape to the existing eyes.......The third horn in the center to me is Ok,but somehow not needed,it takes away from the eyes and the main soul of the character......but thats nit picking........

All in all it's really coming along very nicley, well done and looks quite clean and with a real nice potential for expression.......:arteest:

03-26-2005, 08:19 PM
yup wouldnt go for a third eye either Nick!...yeah and i agree the horn neednt be there either ...just an opinon how about a symbol? ...anyway its looking great!

03-26-2005, 08:29 PM

yeah yeah i am agree with him or if you like to do so increas the size of it a bit to be the base .....(horn)

03-26-2005, 10:11 PM

Anyways other than that looks mighty fine. I like the jawww

03-26-2005, 10:15 PM
Or further back if you really want it on there.

Nice to see such fast progress.

Good luck on the rest of the ride!!!

03-27-2005, 02:49 AM
Kid Mesh- thx dude, your comments really encourage me to do my best. pay this guy a visit ppl!

my favourite 3d fanboy, tho he's got to share that 'award' with Geta-Ve ;)

blackdragoncg- thx for the cool words man. Beleve me; I 've been acting like a monkey for 7 months now.. so i decided to make an avatar representing my current mood

Wussie- hey man, I really appriciate your comments!. I't kinda hard to deny you're here is'nt it? :D. good luck @ ur 2d challenge :D http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=222064 -> 2d monkey :P (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=222064)

Virtuoso- Michael; I -really- take your comments seriously, since your work is a great experience for me. You probably don't know it, but your work is a great motivation for me :D.

I'm still open about the middle horn.. I'm, not sure. I'll finnish the jaw and nose first. But if you guys want my opinion about the middle horn : Personally I'd like it to see it messed up and change it into a broken horn ;).

yunisirees- believe me man, I've been thinking about that só much :D. A symboll COULD be really cool. Thing is: I'm really not sure.. too many ideas. I've got a day or 2 to think about it. I'll see what i'll do :D.

visualact.com- 'lo man, any comments are appriciated. I'll drop by @ ur thread soon :D

Geta-Ve- haha, your concepts are going well tbfh.. I'lm folowing you m8 :D http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=222272&highlight=geta-ve

jmBoekestein- Holla , to be honest : you're the first serious dutch 3d guy who replied to my thread. I' ll post a reply @ ur thread tomorrow. Good luck @ you too m8 :D

good luck to all you ppl!

03-27-2005, 03:01 AM
hahaha yes!!! real nice update...hes coming alive!
REally cool..i cant wait till his armor comes in place

03-27-2005, 02:24 PM
good to see that you're actually paying attention to the comments :)
about the horn; i'd kill it and replace it with some kind of symbol, or maybe break it and make it part of a symbol.
gl! :)

03-27-2005, 08:11 PM
After starring at the model for awhile it makes one want to go to church cause im not signing a deal with no one :deal:

Hope all is well man, looking forward to more updates.

03-30-2005, 09:00 AM

started modeling the chest area. I'll post some detailed concept pics for the body next week, haven't really done them yet :)

04-07-2005, 12:50 AM
Right, time to get this party rolling again guys.. I've been quite busy last few days :S. Have been dealing with some personal stuff as well, but I figured it would be about time to show you guys an update ;). As you can see I started modeling the body, while the head isn't even done yet. I *still* need to finnish the lower jaw and the nose.. But that's just how I work :), kinda chaotic. I'll try to finnish the neck soon, and from there I'll continue on the jaw, and details on the head. Expect a new update in a day or 4/5 :D

04-07-2005, 12:33 PM
looking pretty damn sexy, is that how the skin's gonna look eventually? or are you gonna fatten it up a bit? cuz if you don't it might look weird i think :x...
4/5 days :| can't wait that long tbh :( :D

good luck0r!

04-07-2005, 03:05 PM
I think this is how the final skin is going to look like.
We all know that demons only drink

which explains the muscle definition :).

Anyway, I really should make some detailed concept sketches to show you guys what I'm trying to create.. Expect them soon ^^

04-07-2005, 07:39 PM
Looking mean so far. Keep at it.

04-07-2005, 07:55 PM
OK nix0r, my simple brain is officially curious... Lo fat goats milk and that demon dude?!
bring on the sketch:curious:

just modeling along ^_^. the collar bone needs some more definition :), looks too small now imo. I'll fix that on the next update. any comments/crits are appreciated :)

04-07-2005, 11:32 PM
very nice modeling skills,to me the muscles are awesome, go on go on:thumbsup:

04-07-2005, 11:41 PM
cool sketch mAn,

also AverAtE:applause:

04-08-2005, 12:30 AM
very nick Nick, love what you've done with the lighting! :D

04-08-2005, 08:42 AM
Coming along real smoothly Nick........i think the colloar bone needs more depth and a bit less protrusion....as you mentioned you need to touch it up some......A nitpick really.......The modeling looks very nice, and the Muscle striations are done really well.......Keep this up,off to a very nice start......:arteest:

04-08-2005, 11:39 AM
*stunned* great work, it already looks scary and evil, cant wait to see it finished with textures. I am sorry that I cant give comments, I dont know that much about anatomy. but it really looks awesome! keep them coming:thumbsup:

04-08-2005, 11:45 AM

gaianix - thx dude :D

Mr Micro26 - thanks man, I'm happy with the muscles as they are. The shoulders will probably be in the same style as the chest muscles, with bigass spikes ;).

DaddyMack - hahah :D, Yea he really drinks low fat goat milk. It has nothing to do with my overall concept though.. or has it?.. ;)

||) |V| |^| - thx man :-D

After modeling for a while I think a concept sketch would be nice for a change ;) Those who have seen my first concept sketch know I tend to make a mess with lines :) So I decided to make this one 'better', using my powerful drawing skills in Photoshop. ;)

An explanation would be useful I guess.. :

I'm going to create a scene where a group of slaves/servants are trying to escape from my own interpretation of hell :) The scene is going to be 'indoor' so to speak, with as focal point the pillar in the middle with the stairs..

Those of you who question my idea of a stairway leading out of hell.. let me remind you : Demons work 18 hours a day, they too need to relax, and hell is short on pubs and clubs.

Of course, the demon is heading after the escaping slaves, which sould provide the action :). I'm still thinking about a background, but I'll get to that shortly. I haven't decided on the character placement on this scene as well, so I've let them out for the moment.

I think I'm going to edit my scene a bit. I want to show the end of the rocky stairs, in order to show where the slaves are heading to.. This will be the main light source as well, appart from the lava/fire/whatever I'm going to add ;) So I guess I'm just going to change the perspective, altho I'm open for any suggestrions.

any comments are appriciated

Interesting concept the demon design should prove interesting depending on how you approach it.. horns and hoves? or something different?

Deffinetly horns.. :), the head allready has 4 of them :D I don't think I'm gonna give him hoves, but I'll add even more horns to compromise ;)

I liked your WORKING STYLE, indeed. It is funny. For a long time of period, I havent seen such interface atmosphere like yours (i.e. milk box and muscular skull).

(Note: Don't beat your head so much, its dangerous)

some more drawing. I'm done with this for now. The demon will probably block the way to the pillar, with the slaves in the foreground :). comments/crits are appreciated. Now it's modeling time again :)

Can't leave my eyes out of your avatar... It never stops!!! :scream:

There is a great ambiance in your sketch. I can't wait to see your 3d process based on it. It seems abstract atm to me, so I'm curious to see the next step and of course the final result. Good luck man! :buttrock:
