I set up a thread over on my forum dedicated to newbies, well actually the whole forum is dedicated to newbies. But this thread describes several sources of information to get newbies started. Address is http://www.silkrooster.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19
Later I will be adding other sources that are more commercial, but this should get you started.

Hi FeiTian. Here are some suggestions that would probably help you with learning LW up to speed:
1. Get "Essential Lightwave 8" by Timothy Albee. It's one of the best book for newcomers, and one of the fastest way of grasping LW's foundation. After having a good foundation, you're free to explore whichever aspect you're interested in by playing around with LW, be it character animation, texture artist, etc.. The other 2 books I would recommend are "Lightwave 3D 8 Lighting" and "Lightwave 3D 8 Texturing". They're really indespensible for understanding LW. I know that videos are much easier to learn from, but these 3 books are just too important to ignore .(Since you're in China, you could probably order from Amazon.com if there's none in your nearby bookstore.)
This link has tons of short video clips explaining on the tools of LW.
3. http://www.spinquad.com (http://www.spinquad.com/)
This link is a LW community where you can post lots of questions to help you with your problems. From there, you could get tons of information on whatever you need to know.
The best site for getting LW plugins, which will help you with your LW needs.
Finally, http://kurvstudios.com/ has a good number of great DVD videos for learning LW. If you need more information on the DVDs, just drop by www.spinquad.com (http://www.spinquad.com/) and ask for advice. They'd be glad to help you :)

I'm glad you revert. Thanks.
In China I can't buy the three books. Because there are no the three books.
I have said Lightwave is used very Poor in China.
Ok,I have a book named Inside Lightwave 7 not 8,it had translated into Chinese.
Firstly , I want to read it .And then , I will wait for the Inside Lightwave 8.
