bout 45 minutes. painter->photoshop

Edit: I don't know if this needs an explanation. It's two cavemen arguing about what the constellations look like. Grug replies "Zug thought the fish look like a woman too, and the bear, dragon, and the scales. Zug doesn't know. That one is the hunter. Not some silly woman."

03-11-2005, 07:28 PM
yea ok Falcor_ , check your PM

Lonely Pixel
03-11-2005, 07:30 PM
Photoshop CS + intuos², 1½hours ..

cool image Lonely

03-11-2005, 07:51 PM
Yes very good pic Lonely Pixel

Its always like this when i think of really original idea in my books. There is always ways to easily out do my works. I have no imagination! :wise:

03-11-2005, 08:05 PM

The topic is Zodiac. So I painted the Zodiac killer :P ,with a few of his insane ramblings.
This is my first Daily sketch ive posted so ,Hey everyone.

03-11-2005, 08:14 PM
Ranc0r: that was my first thought on this subject too. I suppose it comes from having grown up in that area.

03-11-2005, 08:38 PM
About an hour and a half, Painter Essentials.

03-11-2005, 08:42 PM

A little over two hours. Photoshop CS
snake zodiac woman! RAWRRRRR

03-11-2005, 09:03 PM
I know I have not been posting for a while.. but this topic is so cool I will definetly squeeze time today and do something... I have too.. my nickname is based on the zodiac...... sagi.

03-11-2005, 09:34 PM
I like yours, lonelypixel! lovely glowing colours!

I'm a capricorn, so....i guess i wandered away from the rest of the herd....

03-11-2005, 09:43 PM
Allright, again no colours but I saw some WPE's that tought me a few tricks, I might be able to colour this accurately this time.

Since I was born at the utter end of the year of the goat, going into the monkey year, I decided to make alittle selfprotrait. My nasty habits seem to fit right in there, lol.
http://img14.exs.cx/img14/8934/ds279zodiac7hg.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us/)
I was again watching a movie during the making of it, so I'm guessing that I spent half an hour or maybe at most an hour on it. Had a lot of problems getting the perspective right and the anatomny on the face.

03-11-2005, 10:01 PM
My first post here!
Photoshop 1h
No time for colors (I try a little bit but it was to ugly... maybe next time)
It's much more harder than I tought.

03-11-2005, 10:31 PM
Time to summon the Zodiac. Its a Mystical Force. :buttrock:

03-11-2005, 10:36 PM
wow, JVaughan (member.php?u=83947), what is really, REALLY amazing O_O

03-11-2005, 10:40 PM
Another one by me lol.. about 45 mins, Painter Essentials again.

JVaughan, paperclip, Lonely Pixel - great stuff!

03-11-2005, 10:44 PM
angryscientist - I love how you put so much motion into that
and those colours are beautiful :)

03-11-2005, 11:11 PM
Great first post Gaspare!

Love the idea. Jvaughn, You scare the heck out of me.

03-11-2005, 11:14 PM
Thank you, epiphany (member.php?u=151764) *blush*

03-11-2005, 11:21 PM
Wow JVaughan That is amazing. How long did it take you?

03-11-2005, 11:36 PM
After a long hiatus from using the "cheating" tools inside photoshop I said, "Fornicate this, I know what I am trying to do with my values". So while waiting far too long for a bunch of tools at work to finish downloading (don't ask, can't tell) I fired up photoshop, cheated like a bastard, er um, used the utmost professional decision making in efforts of a synthesized image, and got this done in about 1:18:00. Been cycling a lot, got to try and keep track of time with utter Teutonic Precision. Thanks to crazyman3d (again!) and new member Epiphany for the love, its always appreciated. Everyone posting deserves tremendous applause, let keep the good work rolling,

03-11-2005, 11:55 PM
I cant find my @#$% stylus! Im ALWAYS losing it just when a REALLY good sketch topic comes up.... OOOH THE FRUSTRATION!

EDIT: Found my Stylus under last nights dinner plate that hadnt been taken to the kitchen yet.

dammit... I suck. Photoshop 2 hours.

03-12-2005, 12:13 AM
Why do really great topic ideas come up on Friday!?!? I guess I'll be posting something in here maybe Monday...

03-12-2005, 12:17 AM
speeeed paiiinnttt...off to bar ...laterzz

03-12-2005, 12:23 AM
Desiree - I know how that feels. I been looking for my pencils since the figure drawing topic (!) and it doesn't look like I'll find them soon...

Great work everyone!
Let's see if I can post this time (5 more hours might be enough to finish... )

03-12-2005, 01:19 AM
really good ones here!!!

epiphany - very nice
JVaughan - really like that one - mush evil in there

I followed on jmBoekestin and I "tried" to make a self portrait as the aries I am...
though I suck on anatomical proportions I was pretty happy with this one
It really looks like me, except from the horns and maybe... cough, cough
the muscles ... a little maybe :D

other than that PS + wacom about 2 hours...

03-12-2005, 01:27 AM
I struggled with this one. I hate drawing horses, they are tough, so I used refrence there. I am not happy with it, but it is what it is.

Photoshop/2.5 hours/mouse

03-12-2005, 02:05 AM
damn JVaughan, that's really good.

here is mine. 1hr photoshop.

03-12-2005, 02:45 AM
Painter IX ... maybe 2 hours to 3 hours :/ (I know I'm spending too much on it now... but I'm trying to improve face, etc... :P Practice makes perfect you know... any comments, etc. are always WELCOME!

Zodias... well... I made my own zodia... yup :D

03-12-2005, 02:55 AM
This year is the year of the chicken.
Approx. 1.5 hours

03-12-2005, 06:37 AM
Nice work everyone :)

Painter 2-3 hours?

My zodiac... aries-taurus cusp.

03-12-2005, 09:10 AM
hey there =)
nice work everyone!

mine: 5m wacom sketch, + 50m color struggle :D - as always, PS Elements (sry for the noise + clouds abuse :D)

03-12-2005, 09:28 AM
Aries, God of War

done in 2,5-3h, mainly due to little things that kept bugging me. Things like legs or no legs, eventually got rid of it... other things like "I thought that f#@$ area was black!", after previewing before posting... very annoying when you try to stay under 2h... :argh:

Very good work guys!

03-12-2005, 11:51 AM
Maybe i will paint it later. It was a fun muscle study.

03-12-2005, 11:56 AM
well done, everyone!

PS, ~30 min....

03-12-2005, 12:37 PM
Hi... ink, ps, 1,5 h :)

03-12-2005, 01:33 PM
Well, it's my go at colouring on this one. I think the colourscheme is nice but I really need to practice a lot more on everything. Hope you like!
http://img181.exs.cx/img181/1589/ds279zodiaccolour0jy.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us/)
took me about an hour and a half I think, but I did right after waking up this morning. So I was doing other things at the same time and wasn't in a state of mind to check the time actually.

03-12-2005, 02:07 PM
Hehe... This place looks like a zoo!:D

Not my sign but... here's "The Dragon":

I'm no good with a digital brush so airbrush it is. PS 5 and Intuos.
More time than I dare say (I'd have to change my signature to "Snails are fast!")
Scales later.

03-12-2005, 02:15 PM
nice entries everyone, although I do not always understand what it has to do with the subject, but that's probably me, I'm not too much into the astronomy thing.

By the way, I see a tendency to post wips in the sketch threads lately followed by another post with variations or the finished sketch, something which the rules do not allow. Now I don't want to be an ass or police officer or something, but it just reads nicer when people just update their first picture, eventually editing that post stating what you changed. :) just a suggestion.

03-12-2005, 02:54 PM
right you are Garma, you don't wanna be an ass. LOL, just kiddin'.

I'm not good at colouring, that's why I view my two versions as separate entries. But I'll separate them the next time.

03-12-2005, 03:19 PM
I'm not good at colouring, that's why I view my two versions as separate entries. But I'll separate them the next time.

heh, it wasn't intended personal. Others do it too. And it's just a suggestion. :D

03-12-2005, 04:32 PM
... finished my pic... page 3.

I'm Aries ... so that means a couple more weeks and it's my birthday!!
Wait a minute, birthday means you'll get older... not good... got... to... find... that... elixir...

Lonely Pixel
03-12-2005, 04:45 PM
Looks cute Art2 :D I like the orange-ish colour. One thing tho, maybe the blood on the sword should be a little bit more red?

03-12-2005, 04:56 PM
it's orkish, demigod, fairytale, mystical blood, heheh... uhm, I thought black would look cool

03-12-2005, 05:16 PM
Sorry I'm late.

2 hours, Painter/Wacom.

03-12-2005, 05:37 PM

2 hours, Painter/Wacom.

lmao! that's great :D

03-12-2005, 06:13 PM
heh, it wasn't intended personal. Others do it too. And it's just a suggestion. :D

don't worry, I think with the amount of responses to each thread, it's a wise choice. Onto the next one!:scream:

03-12-2005, 06:17 PM
I see a tendency to post wips in the sketch threads lately followed by another post with variations or the finished sketch, something which the rules do not allow.

A good Idea would be to update your first post by placing the updated picture directly under the previous picture. I would just be very careful to keep this from becomming a WIP forum.

There are some awsome pictures this time around! and they are all very different from each other! Great work everyone!

03-12-2005, 06:27 PM
Gotta agree!

Great stuff everybody!

03-12-2005, 06:50 PM
"In 2007 a new stellar phenomenon is discovered
that takes the form of a moving fiery cloud. These
phenomena are discovered only to appear in the
systems belonging to the zodiac formations. Further
research into the phenomena indicated that all
readings from them given by different sorts of
sensors were the same and that it never appeared
in two places at the same time. Scientists
concluded from this that there was actually just
one entity that could somehow leap through the
incredible distances of space and just in minutes
appear hundreds of lightyears from its previous
location. Was it a living star ? Sensing this that
these stars that belong to the zodiac formations
have a special meaning to someone and intending
to find out what it was ? The astrologists around
the world to everyone's surprise embraced this
new entity and instantly added it to their
material . The newcomer was named Traveller
and it was given a day between each of the
other signs"

yea i spent my time with this... at least 3 hours, photoshop & mouse

03-12-2005, 07:07 PM
You know this really rocks, and it's so beautiful in it's colours.

I once dreamt up a similar thing. There are these creatures resembling a huge wave of photonic energy suddenly flooding some places. Often accompanied by magnetic anomalies, these creatures are actually solar wales, they thrive on sub leptonic energy. Swimming from galaxy to galaxy at incredible speeds they were never discovered until the after the 14th century. In retrospect some believe to have seen their true form when travelling at hyperspeeds inbetween the stars, claiming they do the same as earth dolfins. But this was never proven because a lot of photonic noise is witnessed at hyperspeeds because of energy waves hyper accelerating and phase shifting which is known to create a wide spectrum light streak.
Voila, great one squibbit. I wish I was born under that sign!:scream:

03-12-2005, 07:22 PM
hey I seen those dolphins

so u were hyperspeeding in the 14th century too huh ?
those were the dayz, man

and don't worry, the concept's pretty new so I think we
can play around with the dates a bit, haha

u done a pretty cool zodiac pic yourself,
good luck with your light studies on wipforum n other stuff jmb
i think u paint and draw bit better than u say and you're lookin
to improve so all  to u

03-12-2005, 09:41 PM
aquarius - very late sorry.

40 mins, photoshop + wacom

03-12-2005, 10:25 PM
heh , why does he carry the water ?

03-12-2005, 11:42 PM
Well, I actually did some sketching on PAPER today...with a PENCIL! And it felt great. I haven't sketched on paper in months.
This was about 45 minutes including a little time throwing some color on it in Photoshop after I scanned it.

lesson learnt: photoshop smudge tool = major wrist pain if you're using a 4x5 graphire 3 :scream:
photoshop7, approx almost 4 hours.. I got abit carried away with experimenting until my wrist started to complain lol
great entries everyone! none to particularly comment on, love em all.. this is one great topic :)

03-13-2005, 09:49 AM
hah, funny that, deaderthanred, I did mine using almost totally
sharp edged smudge brush and mouse

03-13-2005, 10:51 AM
hah, funny that, deaderthanred, I did mine using almost totally
sharp edged smudge brush and mouse

totally agree with you on that. mouse isnt that much strain on the hand for making lots and lots of fine smudging strokes (well, optical mouse, that is).. i was a mouse painter for awhile before i found a store here that sells an actual wacom.. 4x5 graphire3 was the only one they had available.

i think it's the resolution i'm working at .. stupid me should have cranked it up abit higher than 1500px i think :hmm: any quick tips? i especially love those sketches you did in the alien thread. i had to skip two daily sketches due to work, and i'm already twitching

03-13-2005, 11:16 AM
i dunno, when i got an achy wrist from working
with wacom at work , i noticed i was just gripping
then pen too hard, heh, so i just loosened the wrist
and the ache went away :)

and you might have guessed the alien pics were
made using wacom , I often stay at the workplace
after the workday , painting n stuff

03-13-2005, 12:06 PM
Michele, very nice pic. Nice bikini-line too :)
Smudge is cool, but beware not to overuse it. Your pic might become too blurry.
Search for the right balance.
It's been a while since I've painted in Photoshop, great respect to those who do.
Might pick it up next time.

03-13-2005, 03:57 PM
Hey squibbit,

that was a nice link! It looks like them allright, and I dunno, could've been the fifteenth century too. I forget :D . And thanks, I'll try even harder now!

03-13-2005, 08:13 PM
Have you ever faced your sign?

Photoshop 4hrs

03-13-2005, 11:00 PM
I said I would post so here it is.. I tried the sagitarius on a different angle.. kind a wweird angle to draw for me.

I spent too much time on this one... 4 hours with a break for lunch... spent it more on the face and hair, used a reference for the horse.

03-14-2005, 02:58 AM
Just had to get in on this one...

2 hrs PS/Wacom

Sagi - WOW! Time well spent. I think that is your best post ever!

Squibbit - he carries thewater because Aquarius is "the water bearer" sign.

Crazy3dMan - really great!...you too fellow Aquarian, Vitriolic!

Dont know where this one was going... and i had just done a cloud tutorial...

Anyhoo... here it is...

'Cancer' Photoshop, 2.00hr

03-14-2005, 04:51 PM
we got the same tablet ;)
well that's the only type of wacom available up north in malaysia :D

The Damned: totally love that crab! (and it matches with the clouds too lol)

03-14-2005, 07:53 PM
Robin & The Damned - I love the way each of you painted water. Any tips?

Michelle - Your taurus girl is beautiful, but I can't stop thinking of her as a cat. Maybe it's the "horns" in the taurus symbol that make it look like she's got a tail.

03-15-2005, 12:47 AM
Hi Soupy - I just used 3 different colors, did some blending, then used the liquify filter to get it to look less flat and more watery. I hope that makes sense?

03-15-2005, 01:27 AM
Art2: thanks (whack me for being sleepy and missing your post earlier!) I wasnt sure if semi-nudity was considered indecent for "normal" sketch topics, but i was using this as a good excuse for anatomy study :D

thanks! i think it's her face.. the up-tilted eyes and the nose and the skinny body maybe lol I might revise/refine her face and maybe post a thread for this in the 2d wip forum. feedback is always appreciated :) now all i need is more time to work on personal projects :banghead:

"Focus and balance, Daniel-san. Focus and balance. . ."
I know it's late but we Librans are master procrastinators. :D
As some have pointed out, we also need to be known for something besides scales of justice. Not sure, but I seem to remember seeing a symbol like that on a Libra bookmark at one time or another. Hope you like, it was a 10 minute pencil sketch I cleaned up in photoshop.

The Damned
03-15-2005, 11:00 AM
Michelle: Cheers for the comment... I sort of think they are two different styles but we live and learn.

Ilikesoup: Glad you like the water but i sort of cheated...(was in a rush) just scribbles a gradient of sorts and threw an ocean ripple on it and then wind (the strongest one). Ended it with a smudge or two.

BTW I like the KK reference. (altho Daniel did sort of suck)

03-16-2005, 10:21 PM
1.5 to 2 hours so far. I'm going to try and paint it too!

03-18-2005, 07:32 PM
