hope you like it

No textures were used.Well... except for the opacity masks of the windows :)
All car (except the interrior and wheels) is modeled in one piece, but in the way that the doors, hood, etc.. can be opened.
I'm planning this days some renderings with a white (silver) material and a little animation by the end of this month.

09-21-2002, 04:37 AM
Well Love the model of what I can see of it(more renders!this is one we want to see more of!!!)but that reflection map has gotta go!!!
I'm not sure of which application youve used but shoulda used a black and white .hdr to keep from getting those reflection map type kickbacks.
If you want to use a reflection map try blurring it so the viewer cant see all that detail of it taking away the eye from a beautiful model.
Looking good though!
Cant waut for the avi!

and the interior:

Also here are the other renderings:

and (the car without materials)

09-21-2002, 05:16 AM
id use something else as the reflection map... :(

and the headlight glass is a bit to transparent ... from the side view... near the hood.. u cant even see it.

09-21-2002, 05:41 AM
:applause: awesome that is one the best car models/renders *I'VE* seen... GREAT WORK! you planning on an animation?

09-21-2002, 08:00 AM
I replaced the first image with a freh-rendered one (with glossy reflections - took ages to render :)

09-21-2002, 08:20 AM
all my thumbs up
that's gorgeous
great detail

also the interios looks very realstic

the only thing is...
there are some parts/edges that stretch the reflections where they shouldn't
i refer to the sied of the car in the second image

anyway, it's nice

09-21-2002, 01:07 PM
yeah i think ays is right...great piece of work!
looks like the real real as a 3d model could look, but thats very real!!!!!!!!

wich version should it be??
tdi or what?!
(i like the tdi with 130hp...this car rocks ;-))

09-21-2002, 01:43 PM
Damn great! Some stars granted... ;)

09-21-2002, 05:27 PM
Thanks :)))
I'm glad to see my work is appreciated :)))

Also, I replaced the second image with a new rendered one (same position, other materials)

09-21-2002, 06:15 PM
Awesome model!

Looks like it's for a Passat commercial!!

That looks absolutely awesome, i love that you chose a passat, i think too many people forget about the rest of the vw line up(except for the bloody beetle), so  up!!

one comment though, some pics look as if you've used a slight cel shager effect:surprised ...on the car paint...and then some pics look weird in a different way, but thats only the paint, i'm loving the modelling and aspecially the detail of the interior!

09-21-2002, 08:49 PM
hi i said before i love the model!
but ...the new image there is something that irritates me a little...the paint i think is very special...looks like semiglossy paint of the color....a type of swat passat or special forces vehicle..know what i mean?! ;-)
but hey that don't mean i don't like it........
you did a great job!!

09-21-2002, 08:51 PM
on your site you said that the car is black. but it is most definately blue. either you made a mistake there, or your have WAY too much lighting and reflections.

09-22-2002, 12:15 AM
I like it, you have plans to do the Golf too? :)

09-22-2002, 06:28 AM
Thanks :)
I think the Golf was modelled by Lewis...

new rendering

I will post more soon...after I get some sleep :)

yes, yES, YESSSS Perfection!!!

cool stuff!:bounce:

09-22-2002, 07:22 PM
hmmm nice passat.
Thart's the second or third 3d passat I seen so far.

But there are some parts wrong. For example the angle of the front grill looks to low/flat.

Did U used any blueprints?

Also the rear looks strange....:hmm:

Cya.

09-22-2002, 10:36 PM
looks good to me.

i don't like the "glossy" refelctions, they make it look like the car had a bad paint job.

The interior is lacking, espeically in that one view throught the windsheild on your site. The interior is perfect if you don't get too close to it.

09-22-2002, 11:42 PM
the third pic you gave has a better relective map to it than the first, im not sure if you changed it, but there is a bi difference

09-23-2002, 12:51 AM

I replaced the second (glossy) image from the first page with other rendering.

Daniel I modeled after the blueprints (only had two of them side/front but I think with small exceptions is acurate). Can you give me the links for the other Passats ? I didn't knew someone else modeled it before :)

Stephen2002 the interrior is not finished 100%. But I promise I will work on that for the animation.

piajartist: the first image has the same reflective map with the third but the first image has glossy (blurred) reflections.

Here is another rendering:

09-23-2002, 01:09 AM
Hey, man, what is going on, why you take u pictures away?:wip:

09-23-2002, 01:17 AM
well it looked like no one liked my "glossy experimental images" :)

09-23-2002, 01:20 AM
gosh, even the interior looks very good. woow:eek:

09-23-2002, 02:38 PM

One Passat (a variant) have I seen on Newteks LW Forum...
I still have it my harddisk. I could mail U.

I gone to VW's homepage, to check whats wrong with your car...But could'nt find any big car pics there.

Ok the first point are your headlights. See the IMages I attached.
I miss a turn indicator, sure U put three lights inside...but the blinker looks like a own unit....

oki cya.

09-23-2002, 03:47 PM
Daniel I had the VW Passat manual and there are
diffrent type of lights.
The ones I made, I think are the "clear glass" - I don't know If I remember correct, I gave back the manual.

I included a image of the real lights :

09-23-2002, 03:58 PM
Looks great raz98. Looks almost like you could lick the drivers side door handle to keep some salesperson from selling it to someone else on the lot that happens to be approaching it.

09-23-2002, 04:26 PM
Strange...all Pics I found from the Passat have a this turn I showed U.

Hmmm :hmm: . But if it is in the manual than it should be right ;)

All Passats (new models) comes with Clear Glass Lights.

BUT now SHOW US the TAIL of that car!!!

09-23-2002, 04:38 PM

this is a wonderful model BUT this isnīt a "normal" Passat. The Passat has its own unit but we also got the W8 Models that do not have. Iīm living in Wolfsburg Germany, mothertown of VW. We got the Mothership downtown here ;)

Well, the car also seems to be too long or rather the front part is too long. And the front seems to be too "fat". It is more elegant than aggressive like yours. And the swing of the rims seem to be...well wrong. Canīt really explain.

But hey, thatīs a hell of a job and definetly rocks! :buttrock:

Keep up the good work!

09-23-2002, 05:24 PM
wow looks Deathly! :))

Is it you who've maked the ferrari maseratti ? Because there's also a
great Materiial and Awesom Lighting   !!!

animation pleaZ :)

09-23-2002, 08:47 PM
Looks great :). I like it very much.

P.S. I see you used same HDRI and setup as my Maserati 3200GT :) :) ?

09-24-2002, 01:11 AM
thanks guys :)

ghZaaaRK: the Maserati was modeled by Lewis (wonderful modeling and rendering).

Designer: yes you are right the images for the headlights were inspired by the Passat W8

Lewis: thanks , and yes..I think is the same HDRI...:) from Debevec..but I modified it with Hdrshop...the "white" sky was too small in the original HDRI so I had to crop it to have a larger white area :)

Daniel here's the tail and the backlights...probably you will tell me it's not 100% like the real one...and I know...It's very hard if not imposible to get a 100% result using only reflections/refractions :)
and here's a dof image:

09-24-2002, 01:37 AM
god bless u dude! o love this model, cronglatulations wizard!

09-24-2002, 01:52 AM
oohh, nice. I take it you are a VW fan, or did ya just choose this car at random? If you are a VW man you should look inot the Golf GTI R32, man that thing is sooo sweet. You can see pics of it on Great modeling job BTW.

09-24-2002, 04:02 AM
all those hours spend rendering and you didn't even take care of the segmentation that is obvious in the last rendering?

01-06-2003, 09:49 PM
which readerer?

01-06-2003, 09:57 PM
can i drive it >? :applause: :) :p

dude! that's one good damn model!!!

01-07-2003, 03:10 AM
everything is so damn clean and beautiful...perfect job!!

01-07-2003, 03:49 AM
thanks DarkArcher and PureFire, I thought this thread was dead :)
bobba: vray
DarkArcher: yes you can :)

01-07-2003, 10:09 AM
Very nice model!

I really liked the glass texture. But I think HDRI imgae map makes bad reflections, or image maps in general unless the are very sharp and detailed. The HDRI images tend to get very blurred and softened.

Looks good. Looking forward to animation:)

01-07-2003, 02:21 PM
thanks MIRMAX
yes, most of the HDRIs are getting blured because they are low in resolution, but those from Debevec's site are very high in range and resolution :)

the animation is at :

(it was a diffrent trread here, because I thought this original passat thread was dead:) )
