View Full Version : Off Topic A touch...

Hi guys, I hope that this is not a totally misplaced request.
Mods if it is, than just strike me down as it's not my intention to take people off topic.
I might have to change my web hosting service and I am toying with the idea of hosting it myself on an older machine.
If anyone has a spare minute could you jump over to my site and test a couple links.
I would really appreciate it.
If something is screwy a quick note if you have the time would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much

wow, u have your own static IP. yup, links work. =)

well, since you're obviously not wired directly onto the backbone, speed is a little lower than one might desire, but the links work!:)

Singularity and Valk, thanks for taking the time to check the site and report back, I really appreciate it!

Thanks again

Hey guys, thanks so much for checking it out.
I got a couple reports on it being slow, so I moved it to a different machine.

If you guys could take a peek again, I really would be greatful! (

Thanks so much

like valkyrien said, since you're not wired directly on the backbone, connection speed will be slower. moving the site onto a faster machine might make the connection a bit faster, but not by much. like they say, the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

I have a feeling its more so your connection to the net that is slowing this down rather than the speed of the server.

Dont get me wrong though. If you do end up generating a lot of traffic, a fast machine will help you out IF you've got the bandwidth for it ;)

Thanks to everyone who took a look.
I'm gonna keep it alive for testing purposes for the next couple days.
I'm not so sure that trying to host this on my own server is the best idea, since the bottom line is that I'm trying to "beat the man" so to speak with this homebrew.....
The equipment from machine to connection is probably not adequate...
Thanks a lot guys!

Hey guys, I reconfigured my settings if anyone would be interested in giving this one more test run. (

If not, no sweat. I appreciate everyone who took the time already!
