...I recently found a *very* easy to use freeware tool called Alice to do this with.

Here is the site:

Obviously, not the best quality and it does have a tendency to crash or complain about my ATI card but as long as you have minimal drawing tool and programming background, it is *very* easy to start creating something reasonable w/o even going through the tutorial.

I'm using it to create "blueprints" for future simulations I would like to develop.

Hope this helps anyone interested.

VirTools is pretty good too if you cna get your hands on it. ALthough the graphical capabilities leave something to be desired, the programming for it is super easy and fun

A 'free' system you can use to create online 3d environments is the DirectX Media system embedded in windows. It only works with internet explorer (well, microsoft never shares anything!) but it's free it's already installed in windows from version 98 upwards and it gives great results.

I have an example on my site:

we had to use alice for my comp sci class. I absolutely hated it, it was slow, ugly, buggy, with a bad layout and a weird interface.

this was 2 years ago though.
