i`ve made this demon and now i want him to be on fire is ther a good way to do this? only his arms and back will be on fire. was atually gonna do this in maya with paint effects(model made in lightwave) but the problems just kept comin so now i turn to my old pal lightwave.

Try to use the parts that will be on fire as a particle emiter,
and have a go with HV.

where do i select those parts as emitters and how do i break thm up in parts?

You can cut pieces in modeler and use them as emiters.
You can even use a certain surfave to emit.
Take the objects in layout, add FX_Emitter and in the generator tab, have a look at the nozzle drop down menu.

You don't necessarily have to use your Demon object as the emitter. Instead you could use a proxy object made up of geometry which only covers the spaces where you want emission. That way you don't have to cut your object up at all (which would be bad if it's in subpatches). Just make it unseen and have it deform along with your Demon.
