in one word : Brilliant.

in some more words, very cool. not a dull moment and very well executed.
I especially love the scene where he neglects the diamond and feels sad for his precious rock LOL.

03-01-2005, 11:09 PM
:applause: amazing!

Why did Gopher Broke get an Oscar nomination over this one? It was a lot more entertaining and visually impressive than Gopher Broke imo.

03-01-2005, 11:27 PM

Anyone know a URL where you can save this to HD? Loved RockFish, but this one is brilliantly funny. Must put it in my archive for reference. :D

Great job for all the folks at Blur!

03-01-2005, 11:54 PM
I thought they would do something with the bear at the end of the credits, but I can imagine they had spent enough time on this masterpiece already!

Looking for Gopher Broke as well.

03-01-2005, 11:54 PM
Blur rocks!

03-02-2005, 12:02 AM
Great movie! Very very well done and funny.

Also great to see some Brazilian friends like Leo Santos and Ricardo Biriba doing lots of things in this movie. Sometimes multi-talented guys can make a great difference in a project ;)

Cheers and keep rocking!

The lighting on the cave and the layers of foliage were very impressive.

03-02-2005, 01:36 AM
I totally loved it. :-) Blur has always been very inspiring. Can't wait to see Gopher.

Gah this is really really well done! Amazing work coming out of Blur, so let's see a movie already!!!

03-02-2005, 02:53 AM
That was just amazing. One of the funniest shorts ever made, and the best!

03-02-2005, 08:57 AM
Man that is just great. The jungle looks amazing and the animation is sure top-notch. Total feature quality.

03-02-2005, 10:24 AM
Had to save that to my HD too, top notch work !!!

03-02-2005, 10:42 AM
Wow, brilliant work! Any plans for a Blur feature length film?

03-02-2005, 10:48 AM
Loved the look and vivid colors in this. Even preferred this to Rockfish (which was great also, just a tiny bit slow to get going for me). And its got without doubt, the most hilarious caveman-hitting-monster-with-big-rock scene Ive ever seen :)

Cheers for the link

03-02-2005, 10:56 AM
very nice piece of work! keep it up guys!

03-02-2005, 11:10 AM
Loved the look and vivid colors in this.

Yes... the colors are beautiful.

Simply, An Amazing Short
Also congrats to Onur Yeldan and Cemre Ozkurt :bounce:

03-02-2005, 01:58 PM
That was fun to watch. I recognized one of the names in the credits, Chuck Wojtkiewicz, as a former comic book artist. Nice to see his success in the CG field.

03-02-2005, 02:16 PM
Hehe, very good.

Inspires me to get some work done...

03-02-2005, 02:27 PM
Yeah, Stash magazine ( put this at the end of last months issue. Top magazine by the way, there's some wonderful images on there.

03-02-2005, 06:01 PM
Wow, brilliant work! Any plans for a Blur feature length film? There are plans, and I believe they are or were in negotiations with Vin Diesel's production company for a feature Rockfish.

LOVED this short!

Blur is amazing.

03-02-2005, 07:39 PM
Excellent short, but the one thing I really disliked was the "Lion King-esque" music in the beginning. It's too sophisticated to accompany a cave-man scene. It needs something more primitive sounding, not modern African sounding.

Rendering, animation and pacing are all very good.

I was actually surprised when he klonked the bear with the rock. I expected a cliche moment where he'd "realize his humanity" and spare the bear, or some such stupid tv-type moment. Glad to see them follow through on the brutishness of it. ;-)

03-02-2005, 08:34 PM
Hey, It's a lovely, beautiful short!!!...again!
You people never stop...restless...

03-02-2005, 08:56 PM
Heh, that was great stuff..nice to see them really branching out more, even though it still somehow feels like their other work, there's a flavor to the lighting and things..very nice.

Definitely like the timing, the montage of him vs. nature was the best..and willingness to be a little the fact he cooked the little varmint too :D

03-02-2005, 09:04 PM

:bounce::eek: :rolleyes: :buttrock:
Just awesomes stuff! As well the story as the animation is GREAT! Also the mood is made awesome because of the veeery cool colors and lighting! (pretty nice GI-likey :) ) And the cool music makes it all even better! :)

You Blur-ry people rock!(fish ;) ) :buttrock:

03-02-2005, 09:32 PM

Great stuff :)

And for those interested, here is the d/l link to Rockfish:

Excellent work as always from the talented folks at Blur.
Been looking forward to seeing the full short for a long time now.

Anyone know when Gopher Broke will be released in it's entirety?

03-04-2005, 06:07 AM
Holy cow that slow-mo part was insane!!

And oh my freaking god, ROCKFISH TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND! jesus christ what have I been missing?!?! god damn, that was seriously the most insane thing ive ever seen!

though I really think they should leave it at that.. too much of a good thing you know?

03-04-2005, 06:10 AM
Am I the only one who can't get at this stuff?

I just get time-out errors after a few hundred K download.

Bother. Was really looking forward to these 2.

03-04-2005, 08:17 AM
Anybody else think the Caveman was better than the Gopher? I liked the Gopher - but the Caveman was classic.

03-04-2005, 03:22 PM
er im going out on a limb here....technically excellent work as ever, lovely lighting, modeling etc.. but, and i know i seem to be the only one here...maybe its my age :)....I didn't find it that funny...if fact i thought it was quite dull. The humour seemed to be pretty old hat and nothing really that new.

03-04-2005, 03:57 PM
Great stuff, animation wise especially. Lighting wasn't bad at all too :).:applause:

The reason anything gets nominated for an Oscar is if you submit it to the academy.......Perhaps In The Rough wasn't done in time for submission. I still think Chris deserved it....sorry.

On topic though....this is an amazing short! Blur never ceases to amaze me with their work. MAKE A FEATURE LENGTH ALREADY!

03-04-2005, 08:09 PM
Its Gopher Broke I wanna see!

Apparently it'll be uploaded soon....but why not upload the most anticipated first?

03-04-2005, 09:13 PM
Finally caught Gopher Broke on a monthly graphics dvd, fun stuff!

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd have to say I still like In The Rough a little better though..Gopher felt a little too much to me like an on-purpose version of a Pixar short, even down to the fonts, music, etc. This, even though man-vs.-nature gags have been done before, felt overall more original, to me at least, and the timing better. Not that Gopher still isn't great, some of the takes and looks are hilarious, I just think this has the edge on it.

The reason anything gets nominated for an Oscar is if you submit it to the academy.......Perhaps In The Rough wasn't done in time for submission. I still think Chris deserved it....sorry.In The Rough was shortlisted... So I guess it was just a matter of the academy's taste in humour/storytelling.

To be honest, I thought the visuals were absolutely great, but the story wasn't worth the work they invested into making this short. The story feels more like an excuse to work on the short and not like the reason why this short has been created.

Just my (humble :) ) opinion.
