Doing some test renders. Using a point light converted to mental ray area light with rectangle projection just outside the window. The settings are as follows
secondary bounce on
FG rays 40
Why am i getting a white shade as shown over the encircled area
when i am supposed to get shades of black over these areas
I have tried it out with so many different settings ...i am not able to get desired results. What am i doing wrong in here ?

Make sure 'Visible In Reflections/Refractions' is turned on in your object shape's 'Rendering' tab. This kind of stuff happens everytime you import a scene via .3ds or something alike. Good luck! :thumbsup:
edit: You may change the rendering flags by selecting all of your objects, going to the attribute spreadsheet, selecting the 'Rendering' tab and change the setting there.

floze thanks for the reply ...i have already taken that into consideration but its still giving me the same prob ...by the way in maya 6.5 they have already addressed this issue :) if you import a .3ds model the reflection refractions boxes are already checked. So any other suggestions regarding my problem :cry:

check that your shadows are pure black and your ambient colors too.

its simple, you need an area light for each window
