View Full Version : Maya layered deformation

I've been trying to use curves added as influence wires to a smooth bind with use components on. Problem is the entire length of the curve is affected when you move a cv. Anyway to keep that from happening? If you pile up the wires things get too slow. The wire deformer allows this, but with it I can't gain the control over the influence on the mesh that I need.

I like using the curves as influences because I can apply just a few blendshapes to the mesh, the wire and its base, for basic changes without the wire affecting the mesh, and then having the wire as another layer of deformation. Just can seem to overcome the problem mentioned above.

Other methods of rigging are appreciated as well. I just really don't want to use blendshapes on this character for various reasons.
