Hi! There's an exellent book out right now that covers all aspects of rigging and binding a low-poly character in Maya called "Game Character Development with Maya". It's by Anthony Ward and he also has a webite with many useful tools including a biped similar autorigger called "creature tools" at:

Also, check out BONUS TOOLS 6 from alias. It's free on there website( ( and you don't have to be a license holder to download it so if you are using an education version at school you can download it. It has lots of useful tools for creating skeletons and some auto arm/leg/back setups.

There are FLASH demos that give you instructions on how to use them. I've been rigging a lot in Maya for quite some time now and have used many of alias' new bonus tools to create my rigg ( and they are very useful.

Also, kinda an old tut now, but this one has served me well in understanding rigging of low-poly characters in Maya:

Good luck,
-pod:) :)
