I am working on an architecture project and I am having problems with depth map shadows when lighting rooms, to the point where I have gone back to basics!!
The following images are of my simple scene, it is just a poly cube with one face removed and 3 poly spheres hanging above each other in the middle (room containing some objects). Also there is a directional light at intensity 2 with depth map shadows turned on - resolution 256, filter size 4 (going for soft shadows, sunlight simulation). The light is angled down 30 deg and to the left 15 deg.
First link is a screen shot of the scene, the second is the rendered image.
Why am I getting the halo of light around the top of the back surface??? It is not natural at all and is causing big problems in my real scene which is much more complex.
I have tried adjusting the dmap resolution all the way up to 5000 and setting the filter size down to 1, the halo does change but never goes away. :banghead:
Anyone seen this before?
I am using Maya 6.0.1 but I get the same in 5.0 as well.
