View Full Version : WIP - Japanese House
02 February 2005, 10:38 PM
I started this sketch in class , and just started painting it. I'm not very used to painting and more into drawing so i am very grateful for every criticism.
Photoshop / Wacom
I think i got to look for some references to paint the house and adjust the perspective. Just a flat front view seems a bit boring.
thanks in advance.

I really love those clouds. Are you going to give the entire piece that same smooth style and texture?
Looks lovely. Please keep us updated. The house facing the viewer is about right. Aristocrats would want the front of their home to be seen as a person comes up the road.

i think i am going to leave the house like it is and change the foreground to make it a bit more dynamic.
i got the idea for this wood construction at the road from the Animatrix/'Program'.
And i will add a group of training people next to the 2 sitting ones.

pencil sketch- rest in photoshop
I actually wanted to give her normal ears , but my sister said she looks like an elve and needs pointy ears :curious:
edit: does anyone know how i can change the thread title and not only the title of my first post? i figuered i'm going to put all my WIP and stuff in here...

So I like your first post the best out of all of them... but alas....
I don't think your faces are anatomically correct yet. However, I will say faces are tough. Are you using a reference photo, if not, you might want to try it. Another thing you can do is look at some skulls and draw them...work from the inside out. Or you could try copying some master artist such as Rembrandt or something. Just a few random suggestions. :)

thnx for commenting...
i don't use photo references. Cuz i think it's easier for me to find the mistakes i make when im drawing/ painting without reference and later understand what i did wrong and how it has to be.
I'll maybe try using a reference on the next one...
Could you tell me where there are anatomy mistakes ? ... i only found that there maybe needs to be some shadow under the eyes to give the cheeks a bit more volume and deepen the orbit of the eye ( i dont know if its the right word, i translated it on dict.cc )..
Thx in advance

-changed her left eye
-changed the shading on both eyes and added shadow from the nose
-added more volume to the area around the mouth and put highlights on the lips
-defined the headshape and added hair, but im not very content with the hair yet.
so what do you think?

-completly repainted her left eye ( i think they where to far away from each other )
-changed the hair at the top
anyone any hints/tips/critique?
PS: Does anyone know how i can change the thread title from 'Japanese House' to ' gomez's WIP thread' ? i only found an option to change the title of the first post...
