View Full Version : Mermaid (nuuudiity - oh no!!!)

Here's a pic I've been working on for some time, it's pretty finished, but still needs a little magic to really stand out..
Here's also the first picture which was done pre-tablet (w\mouse) I'm just throwing it in so you can get an idea of the process..
Any insights are, of course, very welcome :)

Updates: the jellyfish directly to the right of her head has been removed and the oyster pearl has gotten a glow - will post pics later.

Her torso is too thin.

I'm not going for realism here, so I took some artistic liberties ;)

So far it looks like a pretty nice design. I would like to see it with some proper shading/highlights.
on the 1st pic the fishes looks like BAD fishes that want to EAT you, but on the second image, it looks like they are giving smiles, should work a little more on the eye of the fish on her hand, and the fish on the stones need more detailing..
just my opinion
but rly good job!
God Bless you all

The idea is that the fishes have this kind of "I love the mermaid, but I'll rip you to shreds in a second if you make a move" kind of attitude. Kind of a piranha watchdog thing:P
The mermaid is supposed to be this gothic, lonely person that has access to an entire ocean of mysteries and lives to explore..
The jellyfish and submarine are mostly just decorative elements.
The octopus is decorative, but also has symbol properties, symbolizing the deep secrets of the sea, and deep feelings.

Hi again, I still need some crits, specially on coloring and how to achieve that under water feeling.. please crit, I want to make this pic kick ass.

When you mentioned the part of how to get that underwater-feeling, I remembered a 3d-clip. To get that under water feeling, he only added some particles floating around in the water.
So, try to add some particles over the place and maybe add some lightbeams that goes through the water. :)
