View Full Version : Geforce Graphic Cards - worth investing?

I am looking to buy a geforce card for my pc
I have narrowed the range down to the following models. Here is a short list.
Ti4200 has 64 megs of DDR ram
Ti4400 has 128 megs of DDR ram
Ti4600 has 128 megs of faster DDR ram
the price almost doubles from 4200 model to 4600 model
Question is: is it worth spending twice the money on a 4600, or will a 4200 do the job. Does lightwave use any of the features of the card like max does, and will the card make textured previews faster and more detailed?

It's probably not worth spending the money on a Ti4600.
Lightwave doesn't use any of the fancy stuff in these new cards. LW is basic OpenGL, to be as compatible and as stable as it can possibly be.
You're only going to notice an improvement with things that use DirectX such as games and MAX (if you're brave enough to use DirectX, most MAXers I know use OpenGL still).
I upgraded from a Geforce 2 64mb to a Ti4600 and I have to say I didn't notice a huge increase in LW (or in games for that matter). The difference is only noticeable in games that use the fancy vertex shaders and stuff such as Max Payne.

I have the 4600 i love the card although there is no true game out there that is even close to using all its capabilities... Only nvidia demos.. (something you should think about). However it is extremely fast! I think which card you get depends on your application... For example if you want to do hardcore 3d rendering and all that go with a quadro. However if you want an average card for games and 3d geforce 4 does good. I do suggest however you stay with the Nvidia chipset. They have the best support and keep there drivers updated!

Hobbit i did some searching for you however this does the quadro 4 chip no chance but it does show the geforce 4 ti is just as good if not better then the quadro 2 chip in 3d apps....

you could also consider the Gainward gforce 4 ti 4200 golden sample, with 128mb memory.

Using a MSI Geforce 4Ti 4200 128mb and am very happy.
