Looking cool! nice subject!
I would say that the background mountains need some work, they look to low res. Painting details to break up the rockface will help.
Also try adding loads of atmosphere, coulds, smoke, light variations, etc. Try different lights. early morning (yellow ish), late evening(red, orange), midday (dark shdows).
Look for something interesting in shadows and lightcolor.
A thing that I usually do is to try to add to much atmosphere. Just smack loads in there . Overdo it. You can always remove it later. Its easy just to sitt and paint small details that doesn't change the image so much.
Start with broad changes and when your happy go into the detail.

Enought of me babbling...

hope you got some ideas out of it.

i think it might be a color issue... maybe. i dont know much about matt painting but that what it seems to me in a raw uneducated glance.

Your bottom part of the image, which includes the building and the grassy part of the mountain is in dark colors (or it seems to me that way), while the upper/back part of the image is in light color. I think you should darken the mountains in the background, that way they'll blend.

the background rock cliff on the right is very brightly lit by sunlight. That is the main thing that is throwing things off. I would just use a different image from a cloudy day, or if you're attached to it maybe you could just lower the contrast on that layer.

Looking better.
Maybe you should keep the building out of the mist and just put it behind the first hill. Gives some depth to the images. Also maybe try to make the mist less uniform and more like low clouds in the valleys. Try to keep some light areas on the mountains I think.

First time I saw the image I thought that it would look fantastic in a sunset setting.
Imagine the setting sun shining from off-screen right. The top of the mountins and the tallest rooftop yellow-red from the light.

I found this images which is sort of what I was thinking about.

I think that contrast between light and dark areas, and in the colorpalette generally creates a more interesting painting.

happy painting.

thanks for all the C&C I'm learning a lot. I have decided I need more fantasy in the painting, somthing floating in the air maybe. I will try the sunset as well.

Thanks agean everyone,

I really liked the clarity in the first image, I think the fog just reduces quality. Mabye in version three find somewhere in between.
