 This is my first WIP of animation (, I am trying to show the Brazilian Samba
in digital animation, it is not easy, it is a dance of many leg movements and
waist with the head practically in the same axis. Even with my limitations
I will develop in this work and I want the critics and it helps of all.
I am making this work in 3DMAX5.1, animation in Caracter Studio4,
textures in Photoshop7.0 and composition in After Effects6.0 ;
render scanline, raytrace ligth.

Pardon for terrible English

Samba WIP_01 ( the video in DivX 5.1.1

01 January 2005, 02:48 PM
wow it is amazing!! i lik it a lot! the render is beautiful :applause:
keep it up !

01 January 2005, 05:05 PM
It's short but it's really good !! The modelling is well doneand the animation part seemsto be really realistic.

I live in France and I haven't the possibility to see dancing girl like this one everyday :)
Keep your good work

01 January 2005, 07:36 PM
hot ass :)
realistic moves
what was the rendertime? And do you have a lot of cpu-power?

01 January 2005, 09:43 PM
 My configuration of machine non good, is basic!
CPU: AthlonXP 3.0(barton)
Video: Radeon 256:eek:

01 January 2005, 11:23 PM
nice job, the hands seem a bit too boxy right now, our hands are like a shovel really, especially in the palm area. And the animation definetly feels rough, needs a bit more soft interpolation I believe. Otherwise very nice job

01 January 2005, 02:54 AM
 I made corrections in the positioning of BIPED of CS. There are a lot of limitations of CS for that animation type. I should make a RIG for the hands with bones. do you understand?

Pardon for terrible English!

01 January 2005, 05:39 AM
hey mr.strong
that was an amazing piece of anatomy and modelling and texturing.... really cool... i cudnt c the avi but i feel it'll be amazing... which s/w did u use? well, keep up the gud work..... lets c more of ur work coming up

01 January 2005, 10:47 AM
I know you posted this in the animation wip....but would you mind showing how you setup the bones for the shoulders? I've always wanted to see a rig with, what I'm assuming, is stretchy bones especially around that problem area. And I sympathize, with you for the use of Character Studio, it takes time to get good with it, but at least it comes with some extremely handy tools.

01 January 2005, 09:05 PM
Legal, olhei tuas propagandas na 3d online do brasil e vim dar uma olhada, tá ficando legal, bem parecida com a globeleza da globo.

nice, i´v found your links to here on the 3donline Brazilian site and came to look. It´s a very good work that you are making. it´s too close to the globeleza, from de Globo TV.

ps.: sorry my basd english, i´m brazilian and don´t speak english very well.

02 February 2005, 01:12 AM
 Thank you very much for the critics friends of all the planet 3D.
with help of you I hope to get better more and more.

 Now, speaking about WIP, I made some adjustment and corrections in envelopes and tendons
in Physique of CS. With difficulties they see that the work is getting better.
See the evolution below in the image, in WIP_animation02. ( In this movie, see some tests of facial expression and movement of hands.

See render of this image in high resolution(nude Version) ( - MentalRay My english:eek:

02 February 2005, 09:25 PM
nice job!
ta ficando muito legal cara, o shader gostei muito....

02 February 2005, 06:23 PM
congratulations STROOOOONNNNGGGG

realy crazy, modeling, shaders and..... all

Os Brazukas são ralados....
Vc fez tudo sozinho??????
Parabéns.... cara....
Quanto tempo no projeto...
Gostei pacas da solução entre os dedos... na modelagem...

02 February 2005, 08:42 PM
 Globeleza? I am very far away from the quality and professionalism of Seaglus Flay.
Only I with a lot of difficulty am going making a content work Brazil. (God! that strange English). I expect the help of all!

02 February 2005, 08:52 PM
:wip: This is the last stage of this WIP with Caracter Studio.
Starting from the next stage I will begin a RIG with bones and skin.:banghead: (

02 February 2005, 04:06 PM
Hey Thats awesome man! Don't worry aboutyour english - we understand you.

Great rigging. It looks like you added bones to the standard CS biped. Are they wired somehow or just attached?

02 February 2005, 02:43 AM
 These bones were integrated into the Biped with Position and LookAt Contraints for us to generate links for envelopes of Physique CS, but...they appeared undesirable links and I had to exclude them.

:) It follows an imagen below it tests of the mulata with shine metallic paint (noise) on painting in the skin.

02 February 2005, 02:51 PM
Hi, 3D STRONG. It's looking impressive! and this custom biped is cool.
My only suggestion is that the inside in the root of the foot is kinda stand out.(My model has the same problem, and teach the method of settlement, please.)

02 February 2005, 07:26 PM
i think the animation is a good start, the motion at this stage is alittle too sharp. even with sharp movement in reality there is always a "rounded edge" we could say right now as she shakes her hips and other little things the movements start and stop too rigidly.

keep going

02 February 2005, 08:33 AM
Hi, 3D STRONG.

I wanted to ask you about the transformation of the root of the thigh.
Eu quis perguntar-lhe sobre a transformacao da raiz do thigh.

I want to correct this. What do you think?
Eu quero corrigir este. Que voce pensa?

02 February 2005, 04:34 AM
 Hello friends! I am making some tests with Position and LookAt constraints to balance the breasts and the buttocks. I would like critics and opinions.

Pardon for English!

02 February 2005, 03:49 PM
Wow 3dstrong. This is a very impressive animation. Unfortunately, I can only seem to get one movie from any of your links? Maybe I need to clear my cache. I really like this character a lot. It's one of the few cg characters I've seen that I'd actually believe as a real person. Great proportions and rig. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished work. I agree tho that some of the dancing movements seem a bit sharp. Keep ti up!

03 March 2005, 10:07 AM
 Thank you for the comments friend, I would also like critics and suggestions of use of those animation tools, it is very good for me that am developing in this animation type.
I await suggestions.:wise:

sk:thumbsup: Thank you for the comments friend, I would also like critics and suggestions of use of those animation tools, it is very good for me that am developing in this animation type.

TEST CONSTRAINTS ( link isn't working. Please fix.

03 March 2005, 09:13 PM
Very good start on the animation. I would suggest that over all you need to loosen it up alot more, as it looks very linear . Offset your animation curves so there is some lag between joints... for example, between your shoulder/arm/wrist, then offset the other side ever so slightly from this. Not just on your arms, but legs, neck and torso..

very good work though, keep it up !

03 March 2005, 09:30 PM
Samba is pretty rigid dance with some parts of the body. But still I think shoulders could use some improvement. Also, please dont post clipped views, its hard to judge whole animation of a dance if we cant see the feet ;).

Anto, whats the weather like in New Zealand?

03 March 2005, 04:17 AM
the weather ? one word,...windy !!

03 March 2005, 08:19 PM
tudo bom, cara? :)

First of all, I think you can put a lot more dinamics to the breasts and butt animation. When someone dances samba everything shakes like hell :) even more when she has big breasts and a big butt (like yours). the rest is just perfect, i love it. :)

by the way: I was planning to animate a samba dancer too, but after your attempt (wich is almost excellent in my opinion), I gave up! :D

keep it up

03 March 2005, 01:26 AM
 Hello friends! I feel not to be answering simultaneously to all, but I thank of heart all the opinions and critics, I am making corrections as you guide me, and soon I will show more updates:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 03:12 AM
:) A test of walking simple with free form, is not footsteps of CS.
I await critics and it helps of the friends.

 Here it is the video. (

03 March 2005, 12:13 AM

03 March 2005, 10:24 AM

I had not thought about that...good idea! are you carnivalmaker? Obrigado pela idéia.

03 March 2005, 04:09 PM
Hey - looks good man.

when the left knee goes down there appears to be a slight jerk or freeze. The right hip sway looks like it could use some smoothing too(on the first pass). Maybe the right arm should bend more at the elbow? Is it me or is the right shoulder tucked in a bit - I get the model posture thing - but something seems stiff here.

This is totally nit picky - the project is great.

03 March 2005, 11:26 PM
 It is true, after me to see the video with looking clinical, I see those defects, I will correct.

03 March 2005, 03:01 AM
caraca. heheeh

very good work..

congratulations, de novo. hehe

( naum sei ingles direito hehehe) :(

03 March 2005, 09:01 AM
nice wark.modling is good. and how do u did the textur. i m new to this ferm.
good . go on

03 March 2005, 10:53 AM
 See that in this version of the video I made several corrections: soft the movements, increasing more command keys, I improved the movement of the feet and I increased the swinging of the hips. it is important that compare with the previous video.

SAMBA ( correction

04 April 2005, 03:19 AM

First thanks for the comment on my thread...

About SAMBA, i had to admit that i saw this fantastic work sometime ago. But in the occasiation i wasn´t a member from CG talk.

It´s really good to make justice for this mistake of mine and give you congratulations about the sttuning image.

I like to invite you to make the same considerations about my work from ( in my thread in CGTalk:

Thankyou and keep the singular work.

04 April 2005, 05:03 AM
 After two days of work, I finished a small video clip of whole that work done up to now. It is not that that I waited, but it is inside of my limits, I hope like and comment. thank you.

04 April 2005, 01:39 AM
:bounce: I am very happy for the number of visits. only lack of more comments on that first clip. I am moving forward in that project. when it gets a better host:rolleyes: . I put more updates.

04 April 2005, 02:44 AM
Hey amigo,
Congratulations for the work, I liked everything. Especially of the physics with the movements of the chests. The presentation of the also is very good. I considered interesting that you it opted to a subject 100% Brazilian. While artists 3d are making machines, spaceships and other things that nothing does not have to see with our culture, you inserted in its work ours a well Brazilian subject, congratulations therefore also.

04 April 2005, 08:33 AM
very very nice. and a bit of WOW. looks really good but the video plays way to fast, maybe. I personaly think there would be more movment in the breast. But maybe it was the speed of the video.

if you inteded for her to move that fast.. thin some things look a bit off. Your still working on it I belive though..

04 April 2005, 10:30 AM

 I thank the friend for the that wrote, I always have charm for Brazilian things, for dances, folklores, and even with limitations I try to do something cheerful in graphic computation.
Thank you for the force.

04 April 2005, 03:23 PM

You sure evolved a lot since last time I saw your work. In fact it may have been a long time ago, but it's very nice to see an old fellow doing very good work like this.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

outro brasileiro aqui! a animação esta 10, realmente não deve nada a globeleza!

04 April 2005, 02:05 AM
 Thank you very much Bruno and Viola for the visit and observations to my work. My interest is to do things of Brazil in 3d, it is not the best to show for you, but I am developing for hereafter to show things better done in this:sad: . This project (samba), I am making some animation fittings and costumesfor the clip to conclude.:wip:

Um abraço

Yo,man, I take a look at your 'walk test avi' and its seems fine to me. Modeling is great, maybe just few corrections in animating, I mean right arm is too riggid, maybe you'll give it some more movement to get it more natural. Also, the hip shake, you made it shake left-right, but if you take a look human walk, you'll see that hip's also moves a little one side up-other down, just opposite from shoulders. Just because of that, I radher prefere bones than biped- with inverse khinematic on bones it moves perfect. It is little slower for rigging (think of bones), but when you animate it,esspecialy for you samba dance, inverse khinematic is very usefull.

P.S. I almost forgot, I see you're working with biped, have you looked for some BHV (motion capture) files on the net? Maybe there is alredy samba dance in motion capturing, that you just put in her biped. If you did not try it... try. My english is also poor but I hope you catch my toughts a little.
Best regards.

04 April 2005, 03:33 PM
hi there, really great work, amazing what one can do with just hand animation, theres only some little parts that are a bit "robotic", but im sure yall get em right, great modelling and texturing by the way

04 April 2005, 06:45 PM

Your stuff is amazing

I personally use another way for bodymotions, maybe easier.. and not professional..
I saw everything of this WIP, and what can I say..
The most sexy character animation I ever seen

It is full of brasilian atmosphere and folk.

PS sorry for my ugly english :scream:

 No! I don't make use of files of animation of the net, I would never make that.
With my professional limitations, it will be chaotic to do use of those types of resources.
:wise: For this project I used as references several images of women dancing the samba, :wip: I also used an alive model for dancing for me. I studied several positions and expressions, it is a work very hard of doing. still lack a lot to correct and also to do more movements.
I liked observations. a hug friend!

 Enrico Pecora my friend,Thank you very much for the sincere observations, Brazil really has a very folkloric and hot atmosphere!

poor english

05 May 2005, 01:21 AM
Só vi seu tópico agora, ta muito bom, parabéns, ainda não vi a animação, poque minha net é discada, ai ja sabe como é.

Very, very good

05 May 2005, 09:59 AM
It's possible that I saw a reportage TV on this project !,...It's a complet team under that !,....

Great team work and good evolution ! ;)

05 May 2005, 04:23 PM
 Thank you very much V-Max, is good to see friends they to admire our work.

:wise: Oh Lérot!! I see that you saw other similar work here in Brazil, and not my work, I didn't publish for here in Brazil, perhaps you saw Globeleza, done by other producer for to Globo Network. this work is still in development and it is a work only mine:wip: . thank you friend.

05 May 2005, 11:35 AM
I was talking you about motion capture files, but, man you are great, motion capture, you dont need it, you got feeling. Congretulations!

05 May 2005, 06:35 AM
great work i must say, very good modeling and texturing, the animation is very good to me
but you need some face expressions, she's stuck with that smile all the dance and at the end
it looks quite stupid that smile, another thing the moves look to robotic try making the transition between move to move more smooth. overall amazing work uve done here
you dont got much to go, congratz.

06 June 2005, 10:00 AM
 My friend voolkan, I am Really making corrections in the in the transition keys for having a better result. Ah...the word " stupid " in Brazil has meaning very " idiot ". A hug.

06 June 2005, 12:16 PM
Wow Very Good Improvement Push On Man Push On

Do You Have A Thread On How You Modeled Her....i'm Wondring If You Could Share References With Us Of You Could Say Where You Got Them Lol

Great Job So Far

06 June 2005, 12:42 PM
oi Brasileiro !

nice animation .. all the links lead to the first page, so i figured u just keep on updating the video link right?

from this, i see too much stiffness and poping on the knees! .. of course cus the leg's are what's hardest in this animation.
i really like the movement of the uper body and hip..

model is great, i like the proportions, como uma verdadeira dançarina de samba ! big thighs, a little chubby, very nice :)

what other "brazilian" animations are you gonna composite it with?
you mentionned something to represent brazil .. i modeled a Berimbau (with Maya) and animated (with Max) a little Capoeira shot, back flip, keshada, hashtera.. check it out

Also doing a little Maculele composition, but not animation, tarcking the sticks and turned them into lightsabers, hehe.. i'll show u guys when i'm done. :)

good job with the textures too ! keep it up!
take care

06 June 2005, 12:34 AM
hey 3dStrong - overall very nice peice :)

not much to crit on it really - i think a bit of the dynamic is lost as the upper body seems a bit rigid without much pre-emptive/post twisting, giving the impression that the whole body is moving as one and its hard to see where some of the energy comes from for certain movements. having said that, maybe its just the combination of the fast animation and my ignorance of the dance style itslef which is confusing me ;)

great animation on the head, i think moves around nicely in a good combination of focus/randomness... and you must have a pretty nice foot rig to work with as well :)

06 June 2005, 12:21 AM
:wise: I apologize for the delay in the answers to the friends' last comments, in the neighbor post I go you answer them with clarity.

poor english:blush:

06 June 2005, 09:10 PM
Wow 3DS, thanks for your comments back in our thread, we really appreciate it. Your work is amazing, i'm not sure what to compliment more, the modelling, the rigging the texturing or the animation, there are all superbs!. I can't think of anything to tell you on how to improve the dance, for me it's rigth on, maybe some more gravity and shakiness on her breasts, they look a lil bit rigid, though there is some movement in there it's really hard to notice it. Anyway, if you have a thread on how did you modeled the body it would help me tons on some of my other WIP. Good luck pal, you're doing an excellent work in here:applause:

07 July 2005, 02:56 PM
Great work, i like the modeling and texturing, it's amazing. The animation is very good too, i think you could add some facial expression and some "bouncing" to the breast.

Good luck!!

07 July 2005, 04:48 PM
Simply 5 stars!

07 July 2005, 10:45 PM
 I am very happy with the observations and critics done to my work, Now I see with keen eyes the observations done by all. I am developing with that work and I am preparing something more technician to show. thank you very much!!

07 July 2005, 09:58 AM
HI 3D strong

i think your animation is totally awesome.
I did a dancing animation some month ago and i experienced how hard it is to
make these fast movement look good and convincing.
Yours do...!
Also thumbs up for your amazing shoulder rig
it really rocks.
I like the model very much as well.

i would love to see some more like this...

just a question regarding the animation, did you
took samba dancing steps as a foundation for your animation?

07 July 2005, 01:32 AM
:) Yes friend Matze4d, :wise: I used as foundations the samba, and a " sambista " (woman that dances the samba). it is something very difficult of doing, great difficulties and limitations of CS, but...I continue trying to correct the flaws:D . a hug.

poor english

07 July 2005, 03:13 AM
Hi Waniel,

Your Wip is really good inspiration for many people, Excellent!
It is a work of passion and attention to detail...very impressive textures and modelling.

Maybe, like others have already mentioned....the 'flesh' needs more jiggle..esp since the dance is energetic and she is nude.

Hope to see more from you..Cheers.

08 August 2005, 11:50 PM
 AdrianCher - Thank you very much for the observations and critics, :wise: certainly, not only this, but my futures works will develop after the didactic tutorial of your topic.

08 August 2005, 03:00 AM
Phenomenal. =)

08 August 2005, 12:30 AM
hi there!

fantastic work !
my only crit would be that in the clip you created, it says near the end:

'by 3D SRONG'
it should be '3dstrong' , right ? :):):)

08 August 2005, 02:42 AM
cachehi there!

fantastic work !
my only crit would be that in the clip you created, it says near the end:

'by 3D SRONG'
it should be '3dstrong' , right ? :):):)

 My God!! that shame! :banghead: a mistake so fool! thank you for the alert friend. When I have time I will correct.

09 September 2005, 11:51 PM
Hy W.Jorge,

I think you deal very well with "rig pops" on knees, but thats only because Samba is a crazy fast dance.

the Render and her face needs, trully a lot more work, sorry. I think those are very bad.

But what I dislike most is the lack of weight, no bouncing in her ass or tits... better than me,
you real know how that jiggles, brazilian babes have the most beatiful asses in the world ;).

not all is bad. You have a 5 stars texture mapping, I love it.
and also a very good body, great modeling.

Hope you take a look back to your animation,
And thank you for your time, hasta

09 September 2005, 10:30 AM
everybody mentions the jiggle, I have tried to get jiggle using physique and failed, Im not sure why but when you use bones that are constrained to objex with flex on them, the motion is not translated to the phys modifier.... so wht you should do is pu a mesh select on the modle above phy then select the breasts and buttocks, and ad a flex to this... or you can be more specific and do one for each buttock/breast

09 September 2005, 07:41 PM
 I thank a lot for the constructive comments, because the commented flaws are
true, and I am working to improve this work. Really the movements more precision of weight, I am re making RIG and adapting for Skin:wise: and non Physique:D .
I will make the possible to show for you. thank you very much.

10 October 2005, 07:37 PM
Very nice modeling and texturing, the animation is good, and the rigging looks really useful!expecially the way you set up the shoulders/neck areas!

this reminds me an animation I saw time ago on,something for a brazilian tv,Globeleza or something similar..
keep it up!

10 October 2005, 08:43 PM
 Globeleza was really accomplished by the TV GLOBO for the Carnival 2003 in BRAZIL, my work is far away from the quality and the professionalism of the professionals' of that work team. :wise:
They used a Famous Mulata here in Brazil and they made MOCAP in the United States and Seaglus Fly " a great producer made the modelling and the textures.
I wait one day to do something similar.

10 October 2005, 04:09 PM
Hello 3D STRONG,

11 November 2005, 06:33 PM
 Friend and language brother Nildo, was a pleasure to have your participation in this topic. thank you.

11 November 2005, 03:08 PM

That is just amazing. I am so impressed you did this in Max 5!!

I think you will find it looks much better with Max 7, using mentalray's skin shaders.

11 November 2005, 08:46 PM
:wise: Oh friend mustan9! I want a lot of to acquire a softeware better, more updated...but... I don't have money!!

poor english:cry:

11 November 2005, 09:33 PM
I'm viewing everybody's comments...and I see your modeling and texturing and character designing...and I love her!

UNFORTUNATELY I cannot see the clip!   Is there anyway you can use another download version like quicktime or something? My windows media says there's an error or something.

Sorry but I really wanna see.

11 November 2005, 11:03 PM
Man, you got something REALLY good going on here.
Nice modelling and texturing, almost perfect animation. Congrats!!

I can't handle myself from asking you if you used our Globeleza making of video as a reference for your character. I can see lots of similarities between our globeleza and yours... Nothing bad about that, just asking...

Besides, in the Globeleza project, we did the modelling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, and post production of the video. Yes, the main animation was animated but we had to clean the motion capture data and add secondary animation as well. :wip:

Anyway, ,I am now looking forward to seeing more of your work... Five stars from me!

11 November 2005, 12:52 PM
 Hello friend Cadinho! it is a great satisfaction to have your opinion in my work. I really had as starting point Globelaza (brilliant) . I am simply testing my apprentice capacity, and making a work (only me) that a wonderful and competent team (seagullsfly) it executed so well. This work is still in progress, there are many defects of anatomy and animation:blush: , I have a lot to correct for likeness with Wonderful Globeleza.:wip:

11 November 2005, 05:24 PM
Hey man! nice work! Do you work with harcter studio! My good!

Many stars!

Alessandro Lima

12 December 2005, 09:03 PM
It is good and practical Character Studio, but...Physique is not good, he has many defects of sync of the links with the envelopes, I am remaker with the skin of Max.

Poor english:D
