View Full Version : Boning a robot model, deforming probs

Hi there, i'm making a robot model in maya, and whenever i use the smooth bind tool to attach him to his skeleton it distorts all the polygon primitives he's made up of, is there a way i can bind him to the skeleton but set it so the polygons use them simply as an axes of rotation and don't distort?

It's quite possible i'm approaching this from completely the wrong angle and the answer is dead simple, apologies if that's the case!

Hello, If you go over to high end 3d there is a tutorial about modelling a star wars walker and they show you how to rig a robot. I think you have to parent the bones to the geometry.
