I just finished a tiny little animation of Fone Bone, a character from "Bone", the comic book by Jeff Smith. :-)

Looks pretty good, i like it. Wish there was more to the animation though. Animation looks pretty smooth.

I made a little update to his wrist when he jumps first 2 times and feet to help him push off the ground a bit better.

Thats a really nice animation. Cool when he sees the ball and his happy face disapears :D.

Its a nice update. Have you ever manually scrubbed the bar to play the animation; the movement seems familiar, like its real but cartoony at the same time.

Very cool!! It's so totally soft, the render and the animation. I almost want to hug this little creature, it's so cute. Only crit, it's too short, I think a second more at the end, to finnish the movement would be good.

I must say I enjoy the detached eyebrows, very cool. I agree with the others in it being a bit longer. Perhaps he could interact with the ball more. I would also like to see a bit more secondary action at the end too.

Yes, a very skilled balancing and timing that we rarely see. Definitely professional feature quality. :)

It' a nice piece.
My only crit is the arc of his feet when he jumps is strange. His body has a nice arc but his feet move against his momentum and then follow his body. They should probably just follow the arc of the body.
I like the move when he avoids the ball.

The timing is fantastic, but I agree it could use more of a hold at the very end to give the viewer time to absorb it all.

Very very nice!
I would say his reaction to the giant ball is a bit too subtle, not extreme enough for what's about to happen. I dont know much about this character though, maybe he's cool as a cucumber.

The head-shake "Wha?" motion as he realizes something is coming at him is great.

I love Bone! Very good animation. I agree about the reaction to the bird...too suttle.

That's one really cool animation! I really love the way the whole body is moving and anticipating the motion. I also enjoyed his facial expressivness very much, especially when he shakes his head in disbelief when he sees the ball...
Really love the character and I agree with everybody else that there should be some more!!!
Though the motion blur is a little bit too much.

how did you animate it? did you use biped, or custom rig. Skinwrap, physique, skin modifier..

Hey guys, thanks for feedback. I kind of lost track of this thread.
rooster75 - I used CS Biped (not by choice, though), binded mesh to CS via Skin modifier. The mesh itself is pretty simple, so I didn't need any skinwrap or skin morph.
To get Squash and Stretch, I just used CS Sub-Anims (you basicaly apply a controller to a sub-anim scale channel and just use regular max scale tools.
And that's about it. :-)
Alas, I don't have any free time theese days to do more animation with Bone. :-(

The idea is good, i think the time of the animation is ok, because we can see a lot of motions, many things are happening.

Love it! That is a fantastic take on Fone Bone. Really super nice work.
If you ever do get back to the animation I would recommend pushing things even further (that is like the AM mentor mantra... push it ... pussshhh it :scream:) so try dragging the secondary appendages. Like the feet in the jump for example, will make it pop more.
I really hope you do more with this because I think it is just fantastic work!! :thumbsup:

Hey Brian. Thanks. Yeah I totally agree on Pushing it. :-) Now that I look at it again, I can see how this can be pushed soooo much further then I did. Not just secondary action but also poses and timing. Maybe I'll find some time to come back to it. :)

In my Short i had very similar scene and you did it so damn well. :eek: I'll save this animation if you don't mind. Really inspiring.
I'd love to see a short with him and a lot of action. He's too cute and has too much style to be a waiting file on a computer. Hope you'll return to it one day. ;)

This is a great animation. I don't supposed you've tried your hand at modeling/animating any of the other Bone characters? That book's style and pacing are just perfect for an animated film. Good job!

Do you have a work in progress posted? I would like to see that. That might help for others as well because it seems like some people here do not know who the Bones are. Plus it's a really good comic so everyone should partake of the goodness. :)

I know it isnt much but could I see a wire frame of the sphere. I was curious how you rigged it :D lol sry. I couldn't resist. But yeah, I really wouldn't mind seeing a wire of Bone. I was just really thinking of the other people that maybe you had some reference photos because it seems like some people don't know who Bone is. :)
Oh yeah, I really liked how you captured Fone Bones personality. Very cool!
edit: Are you working on other characters?

Here's Fone Bone's wireframe. Pretty simple model :)
As for other characters. I was working on a high poly Rat creature but he's not finished enough to show and my progress stalled due to lack of time. I did make some low poly models, though, but can't show until telltalegames release their game.

Great job. I loved Bone the comic and was dissaponited when Jeff stopped it. You do a good job of expressing his personoality in the animation.
