You can tell you are addicted to a game when you start drawing pictures of your characters from it.

Lucky, you can play that game! :P

01 January 2005, 08:11 PM
Hey everyone, I've started my 3d gaming program and my time is already so limited that i barely have time to sketch but ill keep coming here and critqueing everyones work and maybe sink in a sketch.

doomdragon: Really cool, I always like your stuff. As for improvements perhaps you could try drawing some action lines so we get a sense of speed or movement and blurring the ground might get us a better sense of depth. keep it up!

Sir Lumps: I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this. I think its so funny that a whale would go around killing other fish/mamals with a harpoon. Over all Its really great, working with water is never easy but I think you got it down pretty good although the bubbles and surface water could use more time.

crazy3dman: I assume hes got his thinking cap on. I love the cartoon style and l ine work.

Floriz: I like your little scientist guy and the robots in the back. My only comment is maybe if we could see the back wall we might have a better sense of a room or the amount of robots.

Good stuff guys/gals

01 January 2005, 11:02 PM
Nice entries so far!
Supervlieg: funny one :D
Sir Lumps: nice rendering!
Here's mine, around 2h-2h30 photoshop cs. It's supposed to be a banana/coconut collector, i was planning to do 1 or 2 thumbnailed action shots but i'm running out of time.. Anyway, hope you like :D

01 January 2005, 11:22 PM
wow nice ones so far, especially the ape! here is mine. about 20 minutes.

01 January 2005, 11:23 PM
Laughed my pants off! Very good sketches guys.

My new invention is this little grey rectangle, right here ->

01 January 2005, 12:24 AM
OK, hope this doesn't offend anyone. Not claiming either side of creation theories. I just wanted to do this. Oh yeah, and I don't know why I named him J. Geils.

EDIT: OK, Supervlieg, I haven't complimented you yet and you certainly deserve it. As far as I've seen you consistently execute your clever concepts excellently. Great job. Also, NL as in Newfoundland? - Just curious.

EDIT (SAME TIME; DIFFERENT POINT): I suppose this was about 40 mins drawing and an hour in photoshop (Yes, I know: It's sad).

"And what, exactly, does it do, mister God?"

01 January 2005, 12:26 AM
doomdragon: Really cool, I always like your stuff. As for improvements perhaps you could try drawing some action lines so we get a sense of speed or movement and blurring the ground might get us a better sense of depth. keep it up!

Thx man :D You're right with your suggestions. I'll keep that in mind for similar sketches in the future. Hope you still find the time to do sketches every now and then.
But 3d gaming program doesn't sound too bad either.

01 January 2005, 01:06 AM
excellent sketches all...well i think this one may be usefull;)

01 January 2005, 01:30 AM
Sir Lumps: I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this. I think its so funny that a whale would go around killing other fish/mamals with a harpoon. ...

how about "a whale would go around killing twisted humans" only ...?

Schattenman: Lol, I can't wait to try

Supervlieg: I really liked the idea but also the mix and look roller-pen/colour.the monkey looks sooo intelligent. tiny bright little eyes. it works very well.

sirLumps: your whale is fantastic and her eyes says a lot. the bubbles looks a bit blurry.

crazy3dman: very fresh. you could almost call him Calvin.

tuzz : I wouldn't mind one of those! the hand needs some more work ... I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere, ah here we go

jwilson02: could you add a bottle opener and a lighter please ;)

01 January 2005, 02:18 AM
Sir lumps great whale!! Just saw it. draw that freehand? Well this might be out of bound but I saw great potential there as ive done underwater scenes before...this is to have none credit by me whatsoever! This just jumped out at me to add u know? great work...

01 January 2005, 03:49 AM
Hey! Attachments are working again! I'll have to go back and add mine to the past two.

Well, here it is: Photoshop + 80mins + tablet

Although I don't think anyone can beat jwilson's new invention. Tell me if you start selling those, wilson. I'll buy twelve.

Winged Stumpisaurus (Lovingly referred to as "Stumpy")
Background is lame, I know.:D
30 minutes - 1 hour PS7.

01 January 2005, 05:00 AM
Leave it to me, since I'm suffering with carpel tunnel and tendonitis to think of this. My brand new invention is...."Thought Transfer Photoshop"!

About 2 hrs PS/Wacom

01 January 2005, 05:06 AM
Maybe I'm so excited that attachments are working, or maybe I'm just in love with my immature think-tank scientists, but I drew another.

Open Canvas this time, and about 50 mins.

- I wonder how many attachments are allowed.... hmm.....

01 January 2005, 05:17 AM
Even though I've produced something that is truly horrible
scratching round for 30 mins I've noticed a couple things that I'll try to develop.
So even mistakes can be good

01 January 2005, 05:52 AM
Leave it to me, since I'm suffering with carpel tunnel and tendonitis to think of this. My brand new invention is...."Thought Transfer Photoshop"!

I would personally be afraid of the images I might conger! :D

Supervlieg ( - really funny

01 January 2005, 06:15 AM
Behold! The WHEE... oh ****, this was already invented, wasn't it?
16 min ps

01 January 2005, 08:56 AM
Thanks guys,

Fantastic Plastic Machine: NL stands for The Netherlands, its almost exactly on the other side of the globe :)

01 January 2005, 09:22 AM
LOL @ Floriz, Supervlieg and Drumwhore! Great ideas/drawings/paintings, as always :)

All of the other sketches/paintings are very nice as well!

My new invention: Instant Frankenstein.

Not really finished, a very loose sketch, and wanted to add some more lab stuff, but time's up for now.

1+1/2 hour in Painter, mostly spent on rethinking/drawing things.. wanted to draw the classic Frankenstein scene first, but I thought a mad professor creating his own Frankenclay (see the "Play-D'uh" (tm) basket in the front) would be a bit more original :)

Sir Lumps
01 January 2005, 10:02 AM
jwilson: I like the paintover a lot. It probably would have looked a bit more like that if I had had the time ( I recently built a 3d underwater scene so I had lots of ideas, click the link below to see it.) I actually planned drawing the caustics and I simply forgot. And yes, it's a freehand drawing :)

cecile: Glad you like it. The idea behind it was indeed payback to those damn humans
a few people have commented on the blurry bubbles, I know, but you have this jitter (?) function in painter which makes painting them like I did as easy as drawing a simple line. And that's so much faster than actually drawing good looking bubbles:D

Lots of nice stuff everyone.

01 January 2005, 10:34 AM

photoshop | mouse | 2h

hope you like it

01 January 2005, 03:06 PM
bummer, I was going to do a real Heath Robinson like pic for this one, but only had an hour so had to cut it down. Thanks GOT! for the wacom + Illustrator tip...will take a little getting use to it, but finally i might be able to draw straight lines with the tablet :D

illustrator / 1hr

01 January 2005, 10:29 AM
What was the straight lines tablet tip? I would love to hear it.

01 January 2005, 10:57 AM
Try to hold your breath when drawing straight lines...? :D
In Painter you can select the V-key (phshop, click/shift-click) to draw straight lines or zoom in as comfortable enough so you can draw them freehand. Try to draw the line with your wrist and lowerarm, following the path of the line.
Oh, and in PainterIX you can rotate the canvas holding spacebar+alt and drag. This can also be a good way to help you create straight lines. (sbar+alt click to reset) Very helpful when combined with the zoom.

Drawmonger, I love those characters!

01 January 2005, 12:14 PM
What was the straight lines tablet tip? I would love to hear it.

A while back GOT! explained his process for drawing with Illustrator. The program 'smooths' the line to a fidelity that can be set manually to suit, so you can draw a ricketty line and it'll turn out nice and straight.

Art2, gald you like my inventors ;) Thanks for the line drawing tips!

01 January 2005, 06:36 PM
Thanks for the tips!

I like this forum because the sharing with others and creative inspirations get me drawing every day, but I'm at a stage where I need more than practice to improve, I also need to learn a lot about technique. I always appreciate moments where people share their's.

01 January 2005, 08:56 PM
hey doomdragon nice pic, go gnomes!
This one, well.. it WAS going to be a great new invention until it blew up.

I didn't time, but it didn't take that long to draw. Where's DMage's sketch? His avatar is an exploding gnome! At least it was at some point

01 January 2005, 04:55 AM
Inspiration has struck!
I might draw a pic sometime tomorrow. I also plan to revive the ol' avatar, just for a while...

01 January 2005, 11:08 AM
