Photoshop 20min...

01-05-2005, 06:14 PM
Hahaha, Nice take on the subject. :)

01-05-2005, 06:47 PM

i am really getting fun, while sketching/painting. I am doing 3d Animation for about 10 years by now, and never thought about painting....this is strange...but it makes a lot of fun, so i will continue...and this "Daily sketching" is really a nice thing to learn....

01-05-2005, 06:47 PM
Simple one. ~20 mins with Painter.

01-05-2005, 07:03 PM
hey, this is very fine..
very light and a warm mood...i like it...

01-05-2005, 07:22 PM
Hehe nice topic, had fun painting it.

Ok here she is, an all spacy alien girly.
But she can be quite dangerous! :D

2 hours and 1 minute in photoshop

I hope you like it.
Funny what different things allready got painted, thats why I like the sketchgroup. :applause:

01-05-2005, 07:25 PM
hehehe nice one doomdragon :P

01-05-2005, 08:46 PM
1 hour for the sketch and 2 hours of feeling all thumbs in photoshop. I really like the line weight of my original sketch but it all goes south when i get in the computer.

Nice sketch Doomdragon

01-05-2005, 08:52 PM
Good work every one.

I wanted to do this image with out using hte outlines but its so damn hard and I think it ended up looking better with them. What am i doing wrong?

ill post both and Id like to know which people like best.

2 hours photoshop and tablet

01-05-2005, 09:14 PM
thebigxer, the one with outlines, definitely.

01-05-2005, 09:17 PM
ThomasKI - good idea...wish I could tell more what she looks like
agustus - nice free flowing sketch
doomdragon - I really like that one. And she has really BIG....feet! :)

bigXer - I have the same problem...I think we just need to make sharper lines for the outside edges of an object to more clearly define it...then it won't need the black line work.

Any suggestions from others on this topic of the outlines would be really helpful !

I think I may try and play around with the style of Goro and FridayEve. Maybe if I play around with the brushes and strokes I'll figure it out a little bit. But either way, I think they are far better artists than I am, so it will be a pale attempt...but worth the effort.

01-05-2005, 09:19 PM
Painter - Wacom - 30min

01-05-2005, 09:36 PM
wow ! This is great ! Absolute style...but...i don`t like the eyes....Looks like these little nasty guys from starwars, which always say "Hootidiee"...But the rest is amazing !
WOW !!

01-05-2005, 09:41 PM
Hey all!

I started these daily sketches when they started way back when. I haven't posted any for no apparent reason. I should keep doing them, so I'll start with this real quick sketch.

PS for 20 mins.

I'm not exactly sure what they're walking towards, but it's probably really interesting.

01-05-2005, 09:43 PM
Hey!! We have some nasty sketchs here today!! Allright, i´m almost ashame of showing my girlfriend to you guys. But i love her so much... Here she is:

20 min, Photoshop and Mouse.

01-05-2005, 09:49 PM
Nice Andrewley
I decided to try and imitate FridayEve’s style and I actually like my outcome. Unfortunately I started the image 800by600 and then had to crop it this small cuz I didn’t have time to finish the rest. Any tips Friday?
Should have spent more time on it but I need to get to bed.
30 min, Painter 9, mouse

01-05-2005, 09:50 PM
hey thebigxer, about the outlines, the one in witch they appear is better than the other, but i think the second has much more future than the first one. So what is necessary to make it look better?

More contrast (in my opinion...). You are using the outlines to separate the drawing and the background, you should try to think a litle about how the colors could do this to your drawing. Use shade and lights to separate the back and the front and you will have a better aspect.

if you make changes to the second one post it for us!

And andrewley... What a nice sketch! 30 min... Wow! Wanna be like you, Fridayeve and Vitriolic when i grown... Hehe!

01-05-2005, 09:55 PM
thebigxer - I prefer the pic without outlines, but the chin stubble in the first was a nice detail. I like the way you shaded the alien's collar. Keep practicing your shading and soon you won't need the outlines at all -- meanwhile try using lighter colors cuz black is too distracting. More contrast between shapes will help -- darker bg will make the alien stand out and the highlights more noticeable. Also, make sure you choose a light source and make sure your highlights and shadows are consistent. Hope that helps. :)

01-05-2005, 10:03 PM
thx juliano7s, SUB7NYC & robinayles

Regarding the...uhm...feet, yeah well thats alien anatomie you know, it may look a bit strange to us but thats how nature created them. Probably thats because they have different gravity on their planet. ;)

01-05-2005, 10:04 PM
Thanks for the comments everyone.

I heard a lot of people talk about contrast and I hate that word with a passion. It seems I can never get a firm grasp of it. I've made steps to improve but it always seems that im working to light still.

Im gonna go back and try and make it better.

01-05-2005, 10:10 PM
Nice sketch andrewley. 30 mins is fast. Do you sketch before hand or do you start in painter?

01-05-2005, 10:12 PM
Hey all!

I started these daily sketches when they started way back when. I haven't posted any for no apparent reason. I should keep doing them, so I'll start with this real quick sketch.

At the risk of sounding like a stalker, your "Me like nanners" sketch is still one of my all time favorites. Welcome back.

01-05-2005, 11:05 PM
SUB7NYC . . . Wow! For feeling all thumbs in Photoshop you did an awesome job! I really love the design of your alien girlfriend.

And everybody else. . . good work this thread!

01-05-2005, 11:20 PM
...doesn't necesarily have to be a bad thing.
I'll try to throw some color to this one as well. 8min. ballpoint pen & napkin.

01-05-2005, 11:23 PM
hmmm... most alien girls appear to have three boobs... :D

01-05-2005, 11:25 PM
just for fun... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/hillartsympho/aliengf.jpg
1/2 hr or so, painter IX

01-05-2005, 11:26 PM
Here's mine. I tried very hard not to use my line art in there. I used it for the first 20 min or so of coloring then turned it off and tried to get it looking ok with just the paint. I think thebigxer and I have similar problems.... need to get that clean steady hand for the border stroke areas... or get a lot looser with the strokes and go with that kind of style. Either way, just need to practice practice practice.:wip:

It was funny drawing this... seeing that octopus (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=199353) on the CGTalk front page made me think... sheesh! what if my girlfriend had to shave her tentacles?! LOL Great topic. Couldn't resist.

1 hour, Photoshop, Wacom

01-05-2005, 11:26 PM
alright I tossed in another hour or so

I switch the background with something complimentary to bring out the green in the alien and darkened stuff up everything. I found it a little easier to manage highlites once I had established a good contrast in colors.

01-05-2005, 11:31 PM
...TRIVIA: How many multi breasted aliens do you remember being featured on films...I remember only two. Star Wars and Total Recall.

01-05-2005, 11:36 PM
This is my second post. I went a little over board ended up taking 3hours 15min

hope you like it. Photoshop - wacom

01-05-2005, 11:40 PM
lol, I remember in Kung Pow (hilarious movie) there was a chick with only one big breast.

01-06-2005, 12:00 AM
cLos71, you and sub7nyc had the same idea for the 3 breasts. I thought that coincidence was very funny. :)

Yup, StarWars and TotalRecall... wasn't there a girl in MiB with 3 breasts... there has to be an episode of StarTrek with 3 breasts in it...

Bixer, one big breast now that is funny, hahaha!!!

01-06-2005, 12:02 AM
Hello, first post ever here, but I've been watching the dsg thread since its early days, and it gave me the envy to learn to draw... http://smuggle.dnsalias.com/ezalbum/sketch/my%20gal%20is%20an%20alien.jpg

Here's my contribution

2hours, open canvas.

01-06-2005, 12:04 AM
All right thebigxer, now it looks a lot better! Congratulation, man!

01-06-2005, 12:07 AM
There is this film, don´t know the name in english, but in portuguese it´s something like "Lost at the mall". One of those with that silent Bob guy...

there is a chick with twoo breasts, but three mammals (?), don´t know if i´m spelling right. Anyway, she uses her third one to see the guys future, and later we discover that it´s a fake one. And she is a not an allien, i know (at least that´s what we think!)!

01-06-2005, 12:36 AM
Maybe the movie your talkinga bout is "Mall rats" I never watched it but I saw teh box like a bazillion times from when i worked at walmart.

Thank you for your comments aswell.

I'm portuguese too :O

01-06-2005, 12:51 AM
HA HA...Alien women either have 3 breasts, or REALLY BIG.....um....feet!! :) <snicker>

01-06-2005, 01:32 AM
okay pencil/photoshop and few hours to colorize. arhmm I kept the outline of the orginal drawing at the top, cause it gives more dimension to the all picture. I have kind of problem working with shadows and highlights so, seeing the pencil outline seems to help... wellwell
oh and I got the inspiration from "galaxy quest" Just saw it last night and laugh my head off...

01-06-2005, 01:45 AM
Some funny stuff in here :D

1 hour, Photopaint 10

01-06-2005, 01:47 AM
Painter - Wacom - 30min

Looks terrific.
Reminds me of 'fooli cooli' japanese animation. Where the girl is a crazy luny and she is from space and kicks people with a big guitar.
I like the eyes. seems like she is very piss off.

Balistic ... Lol, and it looks amazing too

01-06-2005, 02:24 AM
40ish mins, ps, and a grudge thats been waiting to let loose :P
lol, in all truth, she was actually quite hot :)

kinda king kong meets any bgrade sci fi flick, got awfull colourful at one point heh, this is the toned down version.

definietly some funny ones here! in the words of some dude in total recall "i wish i had three hands!"

>> i jsut realised its the one eyed purple people eater monster!! why o why didnt I realise it was her earlier! :P

01-06-2005, 03:13 AM
My Alien girlfriend...

I figured that in order to have a girlfriend, that would make me gay, so I picked a famous gay woman to be my alien girlfriend. PS/Wacom about 2 hrs.

I used this pic as a reference. (http://www.k-squared.com/ellend1.jpg)

01-06-2005, 02:23 PM
You know what's a bummer? Starting a drawing and, halfway there, seeing that someone came up with the exact same idea...and posted before you...

So here's my version of FridayEve's pic

Painter, about two hours:

Hey everyone! Long time no e-speak!
I hope you all had a tremendous festive period. I certainly did. Hence no entries on here for a while!

There have been some excellent entries on here over the past few weeks and this thread is no exception!

FridayEve, Vitriolic, Goro, Andrewley - Absolutely outstanding work as ever!

Everyone has really improved since I last posted so that deserves a mention! anyway, enough blabbing. Here's my alien girlfriend...

The Ton

PS Photoshop around 30-35 mins

01-06-2005, 06:43 PM
Nice one The Ton.

I´ve been curious for a while... Could anyone tell me what´s the meaning of the expression "LOL", so i can start using it too?

Fantastic Plastic Machine
01-06-2005, 06:46 PM
Is it too late to post this? It's rather unfinished; I did it in about an hour this morning and I don't have time to finish it. We're waiting in line at a movie or something, I guess.http://img134.exs.cx/img134/74/aliengf8po.jpg
BTW, no, I don't really look like that, but I do that haircut. And I know the boots are cliche and stupid at that, but, well, I don't really have an excuse.

01-06-2005, 07:04 PM
ae doinferno, tu é brasileiro neh? hehe, seguinte:

lol = laughing out loud

Since all my painted women end up alien, i thought this topic is safe enough to do another attempt. http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I used this (http://img135.exs.cx/img135/6859/cbbabe45no.jpg)as reference.

...We found this place in the East Village. As for my girl, I think she's blending in very well. Illustrator 1 HR.

01-13-2005, 12:08 AM
That's a pretty cool illustration cLos!

01-13-2005, 01:18 AM
...I have some unfortunate news. I'm dropping from the Opera challenge. :(
I just have not time, I'm still at work — 8:16pm, and this is my 3 night on a row that I've been staying late. I don't want to rush it. I will finish it but it won't be for the challenge. :(
Maybe next year.
