View Full Version : WIP Orlando bloom
01-04-2005, 04:58 AM
Im borde and the LOTR cast has become my favourites to draw :)
Anyhow, trying to fit bloom into something else than the " vain sissycast" it is in pirates and troy. So, a buff orli as some kinda warrior/god :D
I would love some input on the likness and anatomy as I have no refs.
01-04-2005, 03:04 PM
Not bad so far! The nose looks rather flat though. The eyes are really good....
01-04-2005, 05:16 PM
Oh well, I'll prolly redraw major parts of the face later anyways.
I will set the ligh and colormood and plot out the background first :)
01-04-2005, 05:18 PM
The body and pants will be somewhat inspired by Mark Dakaskos in that frensh movie (dont know how to spell it :) )
And the hawk will be a coopers hawk, havnt placed the spots on it yet.
01-05-2005, 04:50 PM
Im using an old matte as backdrop. Will add some cliffs and a tree to the right and the light will be the sun coming down through the leafs. Prolly some cliffs to the left aswell.
01-05-2005, 05:32 PM
Tee hee, when I saw the title I knew it was you Alice :)
draw him a cigarette in the hand :D
01-06-2005, 02:52 AM
the movie is called "Brotherhood of the Wolf"<---which i love(except for teh ending)
and the picture looks great...although i think his pecs and abs should be a little bigger and the background doesnt fit(he looks liek a giant compared to those cliffs
i instantly knew who he was though...very close to orlando...
01-06-2005, 03:03 AM
brotherhood of the wolf makes my top ten worst movies, sorry ajay :D
his hip flares out too much on the left side, his torso seems to be off from where his legs come from.
01-06-2005, 03:44 PM
hey, whats wrong with giants? ;)
(According to icelandic folklore, my boyfriends ancestor was half giant (on his grandmas side.))
updates with a beginning to the ground and adjusted the waist.
His skincolour still bugs me, will see what i can do about that when I start with the sunlight and all on him.

Alice I love how this is coming out! Its great, great GREAT!
01-06-2005, 11:18 PM
Glad you like it!
time to get you that CGTALK award, to display it under your avatar :scream:
and i think you are on the right track, i love the transition of the rock in the front to the left. from some spots of paint to this detailed rock. thats great
01-07-2005, 12:58 AM
Looking good so far! The eyes are great! I would suggest a bit more highlight in the hair. I wonder if it's a good idea to have more different color tones on his body and face to simulate the effect of the environment being slightly reflected on him. Just a thought! I think it would make him fit more in the surroundings... :)
01-07-2005, 01:45 AM
Tuzz: lol, thankyou :)
I just started with the highlights on his body, didnt know how the light would be before I drew the trees so Im moving on to the body now. Will get some dirt on there aswell
mmm... dirty mark dakaskos body... [/homerdrool] ;)
01-07-2005, 11:50 PM
I admire your work and I especially like the eyes and mustache.
01-08-2005, 01:21 AM
Just a small update, heading for the detailwork
01-08-2005, 03:21 AM
What the heck, another update before Im off to bed :)
And some advide on what colour the sky should have would be most helpful!
01-08-2005, 05:13 PM
first off...brotherhood of the wolf wasnt THAT bad....it just had a terribe ending(cut that out...and it was pretty good)
this piece is getting much better every single update....i would say, stick to the blue sky, it makes the image more "cool"<---as in temp. wise
when you added the shading, it made his muscles stand out a little more in the torso region, but i still think they need to be a defined a little more..
his left foot looks a little odd right now(it might be too small, or the way its turned makes it look awkward....)
great work so far...cant wait for thsoe updates
01-08-2005, 05:44 PM
"Brotherhood" was a brilliant and awsome beautiful movie :)
01-08-2005, 06:59 PM
It's looking great!!
I personaly prefer the blue sky, it gives it a cooler feeling, while the other sets me on edge...a bit...
01-09-2005, 04:41 AM
its coming along nicely
01-09-2005, 05:03 AM
Im closing in on calling it finished, will add some details to the fur.
Any suggestions on what to add to it?
01-09-2005, 05:23 AM
can he be sitting on a rock?
can he have a fire in front of him with neat little fire flickers climbing up? of course that would change all the lighting now wouldnt it?
maybe you could make it a snowy enviroment, with snow and wet ness on the rocks, and snow in the field and have snow falling, with a fire in front of him. then he would seem REALLY tought guy because he would be out in the snow with no shirt eh?

I must say, he has an incredibly uncanny resemblance; especially considering the fact that
you didn't use any references. Good job with the face. It looks like the one from the Pirates of the Carribean. Nice work!!
01-09-2005, 05:32 AM
well then that settles that i guess :)
can he at least have a scare or something on his arm?
01-09-2005, 02:39 PM
well then that settles that i guess :)
can he at least have a scare or something on his arm? hehe... You almost sounded like a paying costumer there. ;)
"-hey, Im almost finished according to the outline we agreed on, heres your final chanse to change some details"
"-Cool, looks good, but cant we make it all...different? wouldn't it look good if you did it in maya?"
Talked about scars yesterday, it would fit, tatoos aswell.
I was thinking about adding something magic and glowing in his right hand just to be able to have fun with the light. But he doesnt seem like the magic character.
Off couse, I could always add that cigarett...
raizler; Thanks! It is a good reason to watch the LOTR in closeup over and over again.
and my boyfriend thinks I'm doing research. http://www.bobified.com/malin/smileys/smiley_lmao.gif

The only crit I was going to ask was are you finished with the body? For some reason the lower half seems a bit dull compared to all the work you put in on the face...er, I mean the body. And I'm not sure, but I was wondering about the proportions on the legs, mostly his left. But other than that, if it's pretty much done, 'sall good. :) Great work, the face is awesome.
01-09-2005, 10:16 PM
Did some colour and shade adjustements, made the whole pic longer and added the puddle.
+ some details.
Still needs some leafs and particles.
01-09-2005, 11:52 PM
He has a rather pathetic look on his face and appears quite effeminate. Yep, that's a pretty accurate rendition of Orlando. :D
The colouring might be a little oversaturated and the components look very separated if you were going for photorealism but as an illustration it's looking great. I'm a big fan of your work Alice and this one's no different.
The branches are a good addition. They really help balance the composition.
01-10-2005, 12:02 AM
lol, funny thing was, tried to paint him without that silly little beard and it just didnt look like him.
I will go over the painting a bit later and change some things as they arise, but for now, I will let it rest a bit. I wasnt heading for photorealism, more a bit painting-ish :)
And thanks for the compliment!
Nice going Alice!
I think you could add a little contrast.
Your love for Orlando Bloom is... disturbing...
(just kidding! :D)
01-10-2005, 03:10 PM
I took a long hard look at the bodyshades, inspired by Lindas work and a skintutorial of hers.
Then I started looking at the face only to realise I had to work on it. So now Im back on square 1, face more detailed than body. But if I detail the body then the nature needs more work.
Fudge this :P
Hes finished weather it likes it or not.
And my love for bloom isnt nearly as interesting as my love for sean bean, that is an interesting face :)
01-10-2005, 03:11 PM
and the whole:
01-10-2005, 05:23 PM
arghv, cant keep my hands off it :P
On suggestion off herr.O at a swedish board, changed the shadows a bit.
Right now I think it is already really good. What bothers me are the mountains in the back. You can do them better, i know that ;)
I really like your progress on that pic. Great work.
01-11-2005, 01:54 AM
well, thing is, Im bored out of my mind by this one, so I decided to call it finished :)
Its posted over in the finished section now.
01-11-2005, 02:17 AM
amazing work!!! :applause:
his face is perfect  !!!
very nice ...
01-11-2005, 10:59 PM
Hello Alice, nice painting! I think you have some work to do yet, though. Let me point out the grass in the foreground. You could afford to make it more random and thin; currently it looks like a well-groomed haircut, maybe like the character Guile from Street Fighter II: Championship Edition for Sega Genesis.
Anyway, good work!
01-12-2005, 12:29 AM
I like it alor looks Very nice..what are you painting it with..?
01-12-2005, 01:12 AM
Photoshop CS :)
I will work with some other stuff before returning to this one, reading up on the colour theory and take some referancephotos.
If you by any chanse have a muscular friend or body like mark dakaskos, please, by all means send me some photos :D
Its my first try at a muscular man, too much bulges everywhere :(
01-12-2005, 12:41 PM
way to go alice :) Orlando Bloom rocks but all my male friends call him gay, maybe they just jealous :P for it being your first try at a muscular body, you are doing very very well. :)
