Is there any way to have saslite not receive lighting/exclude certain lights? I need an area of grass to be dark. If possible I would like to avoid having it receive lightwave shadows. I tried adding a negative light, but that seemed to have no effect. Any ideas?

Full version can do this...
U can render separated areas with Saslite and compose them in P-shop.

So in what sense does saslite use the lighting in the scene? Is it that it uses all the lights, but will not accept negative values?

It's use all lights (i think).
About negative lights - i newer use this.
Just use Falloff for lights to control lighting areas.

The only problem with using light falloff is that it would add unwanted darkness to other areas of the scene. Perhaps there is no solution.

Composing - is your solution.
Just break the Sas surface to areas with and without light. Render ones with light
and render second image without lights (with areas whet mast be darker) and compose this images (sus can be rendered with alpha).
