12 December 2004, 05:02 PM
@Salamander: Glad to see you on the DSF again! That sketch is awesome! (Tarsan really has a disney feel to him!)

@dies-irae: Yours made me smile! :D

Well, i got around to drawing a nice pic, and you'll be happy to learn i also managed to get opencanvas to work over the internet with my friend, Mettoolman. However, what annoys me, is that i couldn't save our drawing properly! :( ... after having exported as an event file instead, i closed the program, only to find i can't re-open it anymore T_T!!! well, all i can show you of the drawing (which included a snow capped mountain with a cherry on top -- Mett's idea), is what i had saved in photoshop, so that we wouldnt screw it up drawing the rest of the picture.

Here it is:

i'm sorry it's not 800x600, but that's life, huh?

Crits are welcome.

*Edit* since this pic is pseudo-finished and i don't plan to work on it any more, feel free to add to it in any way you see fit (i'd love to see what all of you could come up with using it!), also, since it doesn't exactly comply with the DSG rules, i don't mind if this post is deleted. Just say the word!

12 December 2004, 11:24 PM
DMageXVII: I think your pic is within the DSG rules. You can have any aspect ratio up to and including 800x600. Doesn't mean it has to that exact size. I like your picture =). Too bad we can't see the rest though : /.

12 December 2004, 11:30 PM
about 2 hours ps

12 December 2004, 11:47 PM
salamander that's fantastic!

12 December 2004, 12:02 AM
@AndyMan: Thanks, yeah it's a shame we lost the progress...
we must have spent a while on it... well, that's life, i guess. Next time i'll know to take a screenshot of the pic @100% and paste it into photoshop so as to not lose everything. If anyone knows how to recover from a "Aborted, because of dangerous data!" error, please let me know.

12 December 2004, 01:39 AM
45 min painter.

12 December 2004, 02:56 AM
Salamander, that ROCKS! Its basically the same idea I had, but yours is so much better than I could have done! Great job!

12 December 2004, 04:01 AM
We're always arguing about the temperature at work, so I thought I'd do this.

1.5 hours (approx.), Painter IX/Wacom Intuos 2.

12 December 2004, 05:51 AM
Fun stuff everybody! I couldn't resist this topic, being a fan of goofy drive-in movies.

4 hours, Photopaint 10.

this took longer than I'd planned because I got halfway into a previous version and decided to try a different direction with the scene. It didn't help that I kept getting phone calls either. ARGH.

12 December 2004, 06:19 AM
2 hours/ painter

Salamander- great illustration- like like watercolor feeling.

DrawMonger- really like the yeti and the gorilla

12 December 2004, 06:41 AM
Yeah, finally decided to stop colouring, 3.5 hours Scanned Pencil, PS + Wacom

LOGICK - theres just something in Tarzans Gaze.... that makes me uncomfortable.

12 December 2004, 06:54 AM
Balistic - Thats wicked, I love the backgrounds, and the yeti, Tarzans pose everything..

Salamander - Nice one - I like the Disney Tarzan's design and proportion I based mine
on him a bit.

12 December 2004, 07:23 AM

1 hr, photoshop + wacom

12 December 2004, 08:54 AM
thank you very much guys and gals :)
it's a good feeling to do a sketch for the DSG again, after quite a while of abstinence...
and your comments are a nice welcome, thank you.

with kind regards

12 December 2004, 09:03 AM
keep it on...
balistic & fridayeve - nice poses!really great!

12 December 2004, 09:18 AM
balistic I dig that background.. too bad the jeti is a bit too loose, strokes seem a lil random.

can someone explain a bit what kind of brush he used for the bark and the soil?

12 December 2004, 10:29 AM
Yeti's are only really small, thats why you don't see them much.

And tarzans feet are round the wrong way! DOH!

5 mins - biro.

5-8 minutes, PS + Wacom. This was just a joke. I just read a ton of Don Hertzfeldt comics and stuff tonight and didn't like the direction my cartoony yet much more realistic one was going :p It wasn't looking bad or anything, just too time consuming. And annoying. And stuff that made me dislike it enough to go in a really stupid direction like this that will ostrasize me from the daily sketch group for ever and ever. :)

I figured considering some of the stereotypes based around Tarzan this would be kind of funny.

I have a set of custom brushes that I've developed for Photopaint that help me when I'm roughing in things like vegetation. I think both Painter and PS have presets built into them that get most of the way there . . . anything that spatters dabs around is good for things like trees and lichens. Paper textures can help too. I've been meaning to put some of my custom ones online . . . maybe I'll do it tonight.

Gunslinger: that's really funny :)

Glad someone thought so :D

Though, I don't think I'll quit my day job. Looks like it's back to Disney for me... :(

(...Yet another... not so good joke :()

Anybody who appreciates Hertzfeldt is a worthwhile human being.

Oh, and I posted those brush texture I mentioned, if anyone's interested:

Of course :O He's quite the epitome of brilliance. I love his little rant about Cingular that you can find on his site... And his comics are amazing :D

12 December 2004, 11:13 PM
Here's my first ever sketch entry...

Photoshop and a Wacom. About ten minutes.

I wanted to avoid the yeti from Monsters Inc, and accidentally ended up with Sully's cousin or something (realized after I finished that the guy looks familiar).

12 December 2004, 02:10 AM
Just a quick one, 30 min in photoshop cs. Not happy with it, but I dont want to start all over.
